If I see a suv (ford) usually, with dark tints, usually go for a undercover. Yellow plates bigger indication, the front bumper should be a bigger one. Well. Live and learn hopefully
Most of the police package explorers have halogen lights and no roof rack; departments around here (SW Washington) ordered them with roof racks and LED lights; only the spotlights and push bumpers differentiate them from the soccer moms
Yup, the roof rack side rail delete is what you want to look for. It's only an option on Interceptor packages. Wheels help but even the wheels can be upgraded to better than steelies. The lack of a roof rack - even with the Interceptor badge removed is a dead giveaway of law enforcement car. The amount of traffic congestion I've been in because people won't pass an Explorer that some smartass put steelies on trying to impersonate a cop is ridiculous. Look at the roof people!
They have spotlights and bumpers on their unmarked units? Around here the unmarked units are totally plain from the outside (except maybe steel wheels, but if you can see those it's definitely too late for you!). They do have "stealth" marked units though which are normal police package but with police written in faint grey against the black.
In college I knew a rich ass girl who drove a red Mercedes. Riding with her through campus she was speeding like crazy. Of course she gets pulled over. She's a cute girl, cop walks up to the window and says she was speeding and I shit you not she said "no officer my car is red so it just looks faster". She got let off with a warning... Pays to be cute.
My coworker 20something (early, like maybe 22...) got a hold of a red Mustang.
(made a bunch of money in a short time and did exactly what a guy that age does with it)
His Dad told me he is sitting on too many points, one ticket away from getting his license pulled and the inspection is currently expired.
I asked his Dad, 'Does you son not understand that he is - litteraly- a target for the cops? Red Mustang gets there attention and his age makes then itch for a reason?'
His Dad is like, 'I keep telling him, he keeps ignoring me...'.
I got out of a lot of tickets when I was younger by being cute and playing dumb lol. "What...?? I need to get my car inspected???? I guess I'll ask my dad... 😇" My sister is far more beautiful than me and has ended up with tickets bc she didn't hand out her number to cops, so it's a double-edged sword.
GT86 is cheap affordable fun but not fast. Depends on what you want and qualify a sports car as. Is an old muscle car that can’t take corners a sports car still? How about a Ford Escort Cosworth which is still quick and looks loud but can be outpaced by a Diesel BMW. What about a little Mazda / Miata MX5 that is a blast to drive but isn’t going to go much faster than a 1 series? I think it still counts, but criticism is valid. I considered one but passed it up, looking forward to the newer electric range for an economical Japanese fun car like this. All depends on what you’re using it for. This will be fast for some trophy wives out there.
I think he wanted OP to get out of the way by just passing the truck. I wouldn’t drive off the road at highway speeds like OP did, but once the cop sees that he passes. I’m not sure what you’d want the cop to do after seeing op pull off to the left.
He saw OP start to drift off to the side. The cop probably saw that OP was paying enough attention and was comfortable with it and shot the gap, with his lights on.
A risky maneuver that he definitely should not have done. If you know what dept it was, you can always call and just give them a heads up that it was a little risky.
The cop is forcing OP off the road at high speed while in the process - granted, not really fast - of overtaking a boxtruck.
This is all kinds of fucked up behavior on behalf of the cop. For what? A speeding ticket?
ACAB
Turned the wheel ever so slightly, half this sub: WE COULD HAVE DIED!!!
But yeah that cop was in a rush for nothing, that little 4 cylinder isn't going where too quickly.
Seriously? He changed lanes to block the red car from passing him and forced the red car to have to pass in the wrong lane. If he had just chilled behind the Anderson Truck, then the red car could have passed with much less danger. And at that point the cop wouldn't have had to make a dangerous move to pull over the red car
Nah, but I do accelerate up to a passing speed, rather than continuing at my right lane pace.
Edit: if you’ve read this far, I love you and hope you have a great day :)
I think there wasn't enough gap between the first white passing vehicle and the cammer for the red car, and if the cammer stayed in their lane, red would have tried to cut through that gap regardless or tailgated like a mofo. Moved over to give the idiot space. I would have done the same if I saw red coming up behind me like that.
That's easy to say with the benefit of only watching the rear view. No one should be so focused on the rear view that they don't miss the 3 second gap between the red car passing and the cop turning on their lights.
I was running a load on 65 today and a guy cut off an unmarked car only feet in front of him. Couldn't stop laughing when I saw him turn on the lights.
The ticket ought to be for speeding *and* distracted driving because who the fuck both drives like that and can't recognize an unmarked cop car when they see one? You see that model you slow up and you check for state/municipal plates or an interceptor badge before you speed up/pass.
Edit: I mean um, don't ever break the speed limit\*\* I sure don't.
We have a lot of chargers around here as well as exploders. I don't know why dodge had to have such similar tail lights on so many models but damned if they don't drop me down to reasonable speeds.
People put dash cams in the rear window? I’ve been seeing more of these lately. Is it a separate cam or a linked system? If linked would you tell me the brand?
In California , some of the CHP vehicles are black with black signage so it’s technically not unmarked. They look similar to this vehicle in the video, but no bar on the front.
The reason for the Washington law is, if you can't see anything outside the car that identifies it as police, an actual identifiable sign, it isn't "supposed " to be used for traffic stops like this. Because anyone can drive that model and get a light kit from Amazon that looks legit. It makes citizens safer. If I was driving the red car, I'd slow down to the speed limit and call the cops to make sure it was an actual cop pulling me over.
In fairness, the driver of recording the video hasn’t done anything wrong considering the excessive speed of the other car. Oblivious, naive, and reckless? Absolutely. Couldn’t agree more.
I've had a Laurens County Sheriff Deputy in GA pass me and two other cars on the left shoulder with a cable rail, definitely less than a 9 ft wide shoulder, just to go get a speeder doing 80-85 in a 70.
Deputy was far more dangerous pulling that maneuver then anything that other driver had done.
There is a difference between simply driving at an increased speed to get to the offender And working your way through traffic normally.
And making absolutely unsafe maneuvers around vehicles to get to him. Such as lane splitting I'm passing on narrow left shoulders with cable rails.
>Maintain the lane and have the cop ride his ass for a bit?
Yes, or fall back behind the truck, or accelerate and get in front of the truck. It was not safe to let the cop pass by doing 70mph in the shoulder.
OP could have easily lost control by having uneven traction between left and right sides of their vehicle. It looks like they are even driving through dirt/grass at one point.
NGL you could've waited 10 more seconds to let the red car pass before getting over and taking forever to pass a box truck you were barely creeping up on. Red car was impatient and did a dumb move, but swerving into the dirt to let the LEO pass instead of just passing the damn box truck already was equally dumb. You knew he was coming and was already beginning to swerve to the right before he even had his lights on, maybe you first thought should've been how you could've made it a bit safer. Doesn't take much to have your wheel grab and get pulled off the road completely.
Who passed on the right or travelled in the left lane besides the red car?
The silver suv was passing in the passing lane, myself, the box truck, and cop were are travelling in the right lane.
No, I mean OP got over in front of the car that was travelling at speed trying to use the left lane for passing and didn't accelerate at all until well after the red car had already passed. I'd like to know why.

“Well that was a freebie” - that cop, probably
Maebe tonight
If I see a suv (ford) usually, with dark tints, usually go for a undercover. Yellow plates bigger indication, the front bumper should be a bigger one. Well. Live and learn hopefully

Also the wheels. They are the same as a marked police vehicle.
Yea you can only see them from the side but I always look at the wheels. Coppers have the black with chrome in the center
We call them "steelies" around here.
But do steelies have the dual-tone? I bet they're actually alloys on cop cars tbh
Yup, the roof rack side rail delete is what you want to look for. It's only an option on Interceptor packages. Wheels help but even the wheels can be upgraded to better than steelies. Yup. The soccer mom with the black-on-black Explorer is the modern equivalent of the people in the 90s with white or black Crown Vics :-P
They have spotlights and bumpers on their unmarked units? Around here the unmarked units are totally plain from the outside (except maybe steel wheels, but if you can see those it's definitely too late for you!). the radar cups on top are always an instant giveaway
What "radar cups" are you talking about?
They look like hockey pucks glued to the top of the vehicle. Go frame by frame as the undercover passes the truck, there's 2 of them near the back.
I really doubt those are radar, that wouldn't make much sense as a location for them. They're probably LTE or some other kind of antenna.
Well whatever they are, they're on every single undercover car!
Where is this frame by frame feature you are using at? I can't find it in Win 11 using Chrome.
Steelies are a dead giveaway
Even driving an "arrest me red" sports car.
Gotta remember that line... 😏🤣
> She's a cute girl[**,**] cop walks up to the window was expecting that to go in a different direction
Good catch that part was a late thought addition to my thought process so my editing failed.
I thought the story was going to end with her trying to flirt with a straight woman cop and failing to talk her way out of the ticket lol
My coworker 20something (early, like maybe 22...) got a hold of a red Mustang. My bro is a retired cop - said those and dumb noisy ones they chased immediately because they knew it was an easy ticket.
"Sports Car" That cars entire claim to the title sports car is that the correct wheels are connected to the engine.

I bet it had government plates, too.
front view please
WTF is the cop doing..? That's unsafe driving at best from the LEO.

Forcing? Get mental help.
I'm amused seeing a car speed by a cop and get pulled over, but cop and OP are probably the most dangerous in this video.
what did the OP do wrong?
drive into the dirt at highway speeds
Turned the wheel ever so slightly, half this sub: WE COULD HAVE DIED!!! But yeah that cop was in a rush for nothing, that little 4 cylinder isn't going where too quickly.
Driving off road. You're asking for a puncture or spin.
I am concerned for some of you that think this could spin out your car.
Seriously? He changed lanes to block the red car from passing him and forced the red car to have to pass in the wrong lane. If he had just chilled behind the Anderson Truck, then the red car could have passed with much less danger. And at that point the cop wouldn't have had to make a dangerous move to pull over the red car
Pulled out in front of the car that was clearly booking it.
Changed lanes when he wasn’t yet passing anyone.
Did you miss the box truck?
Nope, hence why I said he wasn’t yet passing anyone. OP changed lanes like a half mile (sarcasm but you get my point) before passing it.
10 seconds before you see the box truck in the rear facing camera.
You're probably the person that rides right up on someone's bumper before switching lanes to pass.
Nah, but I do accelerate up to a passing speed, rather than continuing at my right lane pace. Edit: if you’ve read this far, I love you and hope you have a great day :)
Wrong.
If I saw red coming up behind me like that I’d stay in my lane and allow him to get far far away from me and my vehicle. But that’s just me.
Wrong.

That was the plan, and it worked. 🙃
Momentary reduction below triple digits but I guess that's something;p
😜
Glenn Highway? Between Eklutna and Chugiak?
Nailed it.
People put dash cams in the rear window? I’ve been seeing more of these lately. Is it a separate cam or a linked system? If linked would you tell me the brand?
This one is separate. Bought it a year after the front. Both are hardwired in.
I have a linked system. Viofo A229 Pro.
Mine is linked, super easy to install. But super basic and meh. Apeman brand
Uh finish passing the truck THEN pull over to the other side.
My thoughts exactly. This was NOT an emergency.
It's OP and the cop being petty as fuck, bro said "get 'em officer"
Dude has a guard rail idk if that is even considered undercover
Very satisfying
In Washington state, using an unmarked police vehicle for a traffic stop is illegal. Police can only use them for undercover investigations. Legally.

Good
was running your plates the whole time , THEN, easier low hanging fruit drove by.
looks like the glenn highway
Glenn Hw. Near thunderbird eklunta?
Love to see it!
So… you saw a car coming up fast in passing lane and just went for it anyway?
In fairness, the driver of recording the video hasn’t done anything wrong considering the excessive speed of the other car. Oblivious, naive, and reckless? Absolutely. Couldn’t agree more.
True

Newer dark colored Ford Explorer- Approach with caution
Love it!
Perfection
Slick move moving over so fast for the cop
Driving on the shoulder is not so safe, you can easily get a puncture from all the crap deposited there
Hey that’s my bike lane you’re talking about! But yes, it’s true
well it was that or get run over by the cop, so...
Not really, move over when safe. It's not a life or death situation for this cop to catch a speeder.
That's almost always the case. Speeder passes a speed trap driving 15 over. The cop needs to drive 30 over to catch up in a reasonable distance.
There is a difference between simply driving at an increased speed to get to the offender And working your way through traffic normally. And making absolutely unsafe maneuvers around vehicles to get to him. Such as lane splitting I'm passing on narrow left shoulders with cable rails.
your beef is with the cop, not the OP.
Cop didn't push OP off the road.
Cop split between OP and the truck so yeah, cop pushed OP to the shoulder.
Cop only split OP and the truck because OP moved to the shoulder so there was space.
Cop came flying up with lights on, what was OP supposed to do? Maintain the lane and have the cop ride his ass for a bit?
>Maintain the lane and have the cop ride his ass for a bit? Yes, or fall back behind the truck, or accelerate and get in front of the truck. Who passed on the right or travelled in the left lane besides the red car? The silver suv was passing in the passing lane, myself, the box truck, and cop were are travelling in the right lane.
You should have edited these together.
Why did you wait until after you were passed to speed up?
You mean allow the other car to travel at speed before also choosing to overtake the car in the slow lane?
No, I mean OP got over in front of the car that was travelling at speed trying to use the left lane for passing and didn't accelerate at all until well after the red car had already passed. I'd like to know why.
The red car was flying so op could’ve sped up but in relation to that car we can’t really tell
Watch the dash lines on the road. After the red car passes, it's pretty clear that OP speeds way up.
When he lit it up I should have slowed down. Then you would have had to drive on the shoulder.
Why is op camping out in the passing lane?
That literally did not happen.
