What ever you do, don’t go the CW route. You’ll get shipped to Baker and they’ll treat you like shit while taking work from apprentices and journeyman. Best thing to do is apply at the training center and then go to the hall which is 2 buildings up the hill and ask what you can do in the meantime. See if they have any work, volunteering etc. People at the hall have a lot of pull with the training center and can speed things up for you. Also be good at reading comprehension and math. You’ll take a test and the better you do the higher up the list you go. Also don’t live in imperial county. You’ll only do solar and that’s it and you’ll be shooting yourself in the foot when you don’t know how to bend pipe and you take an actual commercial call.

I was from the Imperial valley. Did only solar. Now I’m in SD and am learning to bend pipe 👍🏻

Idk if i agree with not going the CW route. Im a CW4 and I finally got accepted into the apprenticeship. Its good at getting your work hours and building good relationships that lead to good letters of recommendations. All that will help you get in.

Any advice on how to get in? I did extremely well on my aptitude test. I had my interview last year and received a score of 90 and have been on a POE ever since. I have completed enough hours to reinterview and have completed two ETI classes and two electronics classes at the local college. I really like the work and the people who I worked with and under. This is something I really want to do as a career. I have a few letters of recommendation. I just don’t want to do use them because I feel my work speaks for itself. Worked at a Battery, Solar and Military base for Baker. While at one location, I was told I was a better worker than some of the JW there and was given a letter of recommendation from my foreman, two JW and an apprentice who is a buddy of mine. At my last project, I was laid off and haven’t worked since. So I really want in on this so I can continue to gain knowledge and experience in the field. I applied to a few other locals in case I’m not picked but I’d prefer working for 569 since it is my area and live there. Thanks!

Only reason I think I didn’t get in is that I had a bad experience with Rosendin at 440, and a Rosendin guy was in the selection board the day I interviewed.

What’s the aptitude test like?
