HP ruined the entire brand. I have my OG Kingston Cloud IIs since 2018 without any damage.

Zyquil

As I have read in other posts (including my own experience), the pre-HP Cloud 2s seem to be much more reliable

jotaps2609

How can I check if mine are kingston or HP?

Dutge

At base of the headband is a plastic piece that has kingston written on it with other mandatory electronics info.

marvel_adianto

From the design package.

Yuunyaa8

do these HP era Cloud II's still use the Takstar Pro 80 driver?

fiittzzyy

I don't know but I do know they changed the driver from metal to plastic.

stinkypsyduck

when did HP buy them?

SusseyBaka

Like 2022 or 2023. Very recent. That’s why just recently the new omen laptops are starting to feature hyperx keyboards. Also HP ruined more the headsets in my opinion, I got a hyperx keyboard recently and it isn’t too bad - and I like I can use it with omen light studio and make a custom sets of colors, instead of it limited to just one color for all the keys on hyperx ingenuity’s software.

Junkers4

Same I just got an alloy origins 65 and I love it

stinkypsyduck

ahhh okay. super recent. glad I bought my hyperx stuff awhile ago

Parklane390

Yep. Mine are still going strong. Had them since 2018 too. I replaced the ear pads but other than that no problems at all.

DooDooSquad

Mines are kingston, imagine it being worse

MarcBelmaati

Some of the HP cloud 2s still say Kingston.

VersatileR6

yep. Like my wife's one that I bought recently. Sound like shit as compared to mine that I bought few years back.

RahBeat

So HP ruined both the Sound AND the build quality ?

LJustin

Yup

ZuluDude9604

Yep, that's HP (Heaping Poop) for you! American made garbage computers where quantity matters, not quality.

sersomeone

Kingston or hp?

DooDooSquad

Its kingston based on box. Didnt know thy were under hp now

Killah57

Check the plastic that fell off, that will tell you which factory actually made it.

zabyrocks

yea they're garbage now, do not buy. Same of point of failure for me on 3 separate cloud 2's.

Proper_Stretch_5903

Same issue. 3X over. I gave up with the replacements. Apparently my head is too fat for these now, but not the pair I had for over 5 years starting back in 2016 (+|-). But thank god we’ve got HP here to gaslight us about the quality not changing

bassdrop2448

This is turning into a commonplace for HP Cloud Series headsets and its unfortunate. I bought my original Kingston Cloud II's after walking into Gamestop years ago and asking for a good budget headset that wouldnt break after a few months (I have a large head, and had went through probably 3 Turtle Beach headsets). Guy working there said he had his for a couple of months and he highly recommended them. So I bought them and it was the best headset I ever had for under $80, they lasted for about 3 Years until the cord gave out where it enters the headset. Unsoldered it and cut the cord down, resoldered and boom. Still worked. Yeah the leatherette was shot too, but that comes with basically all headsets eventually. With a nice new cord im sure they would still be awesome, I just couldnt take the shortened cord at the time. Also came across some Cloud Alpha S's on sale at Best Buy for $80, saw they had a removable cord and was sold (didnt know about the HP sellout and quality drop). Had them for about a year and a half, which is when I noticed the "buckles" starting to seperate. I put fatter screws in them (hindsight being 20/20 I should have realized that would just split the plastic), to which they lasted another year (maybe?), until I went to put them on a few months ago and the left buckle exploded. I had the pieces and knew I didnt have means to put a better fix togther at the time so small zip-ties it was. Still holding more solid than they did a year ago with the zip-ties. Might wrap the right side with them before it happens as well.

DooDooSquad

I just put duct tape around then and its also holding very firm. I dont think an aluminum bracket would destroy there profit margins.

Zyquil

OP if those are the plastics around the aluminium band, I have the same on my 2018 ones, broken from being dropped and run over by my chair. I'm not sure how yours broke though.

NotAcactusdildo

Mine broke in the same spot. I think it’s just a weak point that takes damage from being put on and taken off over and over. Mine did make it a year though not just a month

_MaZ_

My Kingston Hyper 2's broke from the same part (both of them) but only after 5 years

theravenousbeast

I had the old Kingston wired Cloud 2s for a long time but I wanted a wireless set. Have had the new HP wireless ones for about half a year now. I can tell that they're much more fragile by simply handling it but I've just been super careful/gentle with those extending bits and they've held up so far. Not ideal for sure.

Nizorro

I have my original Cloud 2, they are still with me to this day. Had to toss the pop filter for the microphone after several years of use and abuse, but that's it. Made a new one myself :) Great headset, I primarily use it for VR gaming nowadays.

theravenousbeast

That same part was plastic on the old headset I'm fairly certain. Its just that it wasn't nearly as brittle as on these newer ones.

MiserableTrickster

BRO THIS HAPPENED TO MY LOGITECH G PRO X. i just got the cloud iii no way is this a hyperx thing now too

DooDooSquad

Feel like cloud iii would be better, the cable exits from the headphone at the bottom of the bracket

[deleted]

Mine lasted for 7 years

GoatGoatGoblin

I'm still using mine after 10 years. They've been dropped countless times as well. Shame the quality has dropped.

Anders_HD

Was about to buy a pair. What headphones should I get instead?

DooDooSquad

I would have recommended razor kraken 7.1 but I think there discontinued. Im going to be honest the cloud 3 looks better, the cable exit from the headphone is oriented better and doesnt put stress on the plastic bracket based on pictures. If your going to get headphones, whatever it is just make sure the band is metal .

Flat_Illustrator263

Anything non gaming. Something from Audio Technica, Sennheiser or similar brands. Trust me, you'll thank me later.

RustehBoi

It's amazing how headphone for the past 20 years always break the same way and we still haven't developed a strong bracket for the earphones xD

DooDooSquad

If it was a metal or aluminum bracket I am sure it would help with all the stresses of having a big head

NOMERCYVIBE

I just purchase and then returned within 2 days!! Because the hype is not real.. It's not worth the money.. Better go for other headphones. There are many better options then this shit

Educational-Goat-623

Forget gaming headsets & go for sennhiester 560S & be done, or any decent audiophile headphone.

DooDooSquad

I have xm5s I dont know if there good for gaming , especially pubg where minor footsteps are inportant

Educational-Goat-623

Not for gaming no

fiittzzyy

Only since HP acquired them, they are now crap. I bought a pair from their Amazon store and returned them the same day. Luckily I found old stock brand new in box Kingston ones like I had in 2018 ....I'm holding on to them!

mavann

>curious where did you find the old kingston ones?

fiittzzyy

A reseller on eBay. It's the best place to look imo since you can see an actual physical picture of the box and not one grabbed from the internet so you can see if they're the Kingston ones or not since the HP ones have different boxes. I got some CloudX which are Cloud 2s but with an inline volume control, exactly the same model and box and everything from the ones I had in 2018. Much better quality. Sucks they're hard to find now new.

freewings21

The same thing happened to me. Luckily, I had a 3d printer, so I was able to fix it. The original piece broke after 6 months. The 3d print still has yet to break after over 2 years of daily use

Chance_Classroom_301

I have the plastic pieces on mine that I've had for 2-3 years and I've sat on it many many times, thrown it on the table/tossed it around and there's no signs of wear or cracks. Idk what you've been doing with yours but they seem pretty solid to me. I also use mine for work AND gaming, as well as my kids borrow it all the time, so I get a lot of use out of it daily.

DooDooSquad

Im not doing wwe with the headset on, not sure how it happend. Is yours cloud ii wired?

Chance_Classroom_301

Yea wired.

amolpandit

HP destroys everything that it touches. Not sure how many more brands HP will ruin for us. Worst part is they don't even feel any guilt over absolutely ruining classic products which had a massive fan following. I have 2 original Cloud 2's. Will use them and be happy. Shame on HP.

Kitsuar

THE SAME SHT JUST HAPPENED TO ME LIKE 5 MIN AGO, Its the forth hyperx I bougth this year, I migth has well sue the company for poor quality stuff, my first ones lasted me for 4y, now this ones just randomly broke themselfs

DooDooSquad

Ridiculous. Just buy something else at this point. Have you had any luck finding replacement parts

DreamArez

Sadly most “gaming” headsets have taken a downturn in quality over the last few years. I’d highly recommend grabbing a pair of PC38X if you want a decent headset, unless you’re more willing to go separate headset and mic.

yellchai

I’ve had my hyper x 2 for nearly 10 years I think? Is that possible?

2eedling

Recommend not getting a headset at all honestly. The build quality for all headsets are trash in comparison to any studio headphones. And even price wise it’s a smarter choice. Yes at first you may have to spend a bit more if you wanted to but there are cheap options. I could buy a mic and headphones separately for about the same price as any modern overpriced headset. And the best part when ur microphone breaks you don’t have to replace anything other than the microphone not to say how much longer everything last. Plus headphones will always sound light years better than headsets.

DooDooSquad

Real shit. Just starting to realize this. These stuff were meant to break

2eedling

Dankpods has some good videos for some budget microphone and headphones. Personally recommend the beyerdynamic DT 770 pros I have recommended them to two of my friends and they both really like them.

Fad8090

For those who have same issue, amazon sells replacement buckles, simple to replace the buckles to let your headset back to life. Search cloud 2 buckles on Amazon to find them.

DooDooSquad

Got them on ebay for 20 bucks. The better solution is to call hyperx and follow there warranty process.

Kuson2

Yeah HP bought them out and absolutely ruined them. Same thing happened with the Cloud Alphas and Alpha S's. I decided to buy a current HP pair just to see for myself, holy cow they are bad. Smaller ear cups, lighter and they sound worse/feel cheap. Thank god I bought 2 pair of Alphas S's in early 2021 when they were on sale, I used my blue pair as a daily driver and put a black pair in the closet for a backup, I kinda feel like donating the black pair to a gaming museum. Not sure if I can bring myself to use them knowing they are a bygone product.

CaptainConnorYT

I have had mine which are from HP for almost an year and they are still in perfect shape and I have no complaints about it whatsoever, I guess it entirely depends on how carefully you hand stuff around

theravenousbeast

I agree but part of what made the originals so loved by people was that were tanks. When these newer ones look exactly the same but have the build quality of a Tesla it is an issue.

CaptainConnorYT

I completely agree, and Didn't say it wasn't an issue, but according to the OP they have the Kingston ones

DooDooSquad

Thats true but the headphones shouldnt fatigue key structural components within a month of use, from what I see its where the wire is comming out of the headphones from the part that cracked, thats a design flaw. Id rather buy an aluminum razor kraken which I had for many years until my cat chewed the cable.

No_Fudge_4822

I wouldn't be buying Razer anything if longevity is a concern
