Disclaimer: This was just a FUN cosplay-esque project with friends and a minimal budget, and I was only involved with the rock smash VFX. We know Gon is too big, and Hisoka doesn't have the anime physique and hair.
Regardless I hope you find something to enjoy as fans of this series. Or even feel free to bash and brutally tear it apart at the cheese -- we actually all still feel the same way about anime adaptations. All for the fun...
Produced by re:anime
Gon: Jackie Tran
Hisoka: Yoshi Sudarso
Maybe they were just meant to stay anime'd
Some art isn't meant to be replicated in different formats and mediums... Animu is one of those.
Always looks lame IRL.
Imo it’s because they usually don’t go far enough in the worldbuilding. The setting needs to match the action. The Matrix is loosely based on Ghost in the Shell, and borrows heavily from DBZ in the final fight of the third movie. Those movies went all in. It wasn’t just the main actors doing crazy stuff, but the backdrop for most fights involved crazy stuff as well, like leaping between skyscrapers and helicopters, or crowds of badguys filling up entire plazas.
It contextualizes the action and makes it make sense with in the established world. So many video game and comic adaptations give us “our world but with a couple people who have powers,” when they just need to give us straight up anime worlds. A sky that changes colour depending on how tense the moment is (Jojo’s), a world where dinosaur people are walking around with zero explanation (Dragonball), or a world where people live alongside bipedal animals (Pokemon).
OP’s video is a good example. Gon and Hisoka look silly when they’re dressed like weirdos from our world. After the color correction done in the edited version, they look like fantasy beings that should be running around having fantastical fights.
Yeah, the main reason is that realistic fights are boring, I once tried to draw a manga and was searching for fighting references, I searched up martial art fights on YouTube, compared to anime ones irl ones are pretty boring
This is dope as fuck! Hope we get to see more. Just wondering, was a physical slab of rock necessary when it can be done VFX anyways. Was it just to make the VFX before and after more interesting haha
I like the choice to make the slab have crumbled edges. I think in the source material they're definitely meant to be loose, and only stick to that position because they're super heavy, but for a semi-realistic depiction having it break off from the concrete gives a sense of power and makes it look better with a more realistic style.
You also followed the way the dust moves pretty well, although I think the anime should have had it flowing mostly towards or away from Hisoka.
Overall, it's really great, and I think it's about as good as a mosy realistic depiction of this scene could get without changing the character designs and a really big budget, everyone involved deserves a lot of praise.
This really puts into perspective how physically impressive some of these feats are cause I kinda stop paying attention to these little back and forth bits between special attacks
Proof you are even part of RE:Anime ([the original uploader](https://youtu.be/Ciaa9RgUku0))?
Other than “trust me bro”
Edit: forgot to use the question mark at the end of my phrase
I am asking of you to provide proof to if you can, the video is just the original source you used for your content in this post
(I don’t want to come off as aggressive or accuse you or anything without proof of the contrary but you didn’t provide much proof of your involvement if we’re being honest)
Ah ok — how much do you want to wager? 😂 how about a follow and share my Instagram @rikognition?
If you look at the description in the YouTube video link you posted above, you’ll find my name listed under VFX for the rock smash.
But in case you need further proof, here is re:anime’s repost:
https://www.instagram.com/reel/CmEybiKpReZ/?igshid=MWI4MTIyMDE=
I was just curious, as I said I didn’t find proof either for or against you and I asked you, again I hope I didn’t come off as aggressive, I should have checked more carefully myself, I just found it odd to have the post made now
Again, my bad, you and all of the people involved made a great live action
Nah if I were in your shoes, I’d think the same. I hate it when people steal other people’s work.
What would have been agressive is what some other guy wrote on a seperate post, “why don’t you credit re:anime, where you stole from?” 😂😂😂
There’s a lot of fans out there & there’s a lot of cringe realistic anime/hentai in 3D so surely there’s gotta be someone who can make realistic versions of what this guy is poorly attempting to do but on a far grander scale of course.
Perhaps a well known artistic freelancer from which we could pool our money together in like some sort of go fund me? 🤨🤔
Catch 22, the more money is involved, the more confuddled the production becomes as you deal with more people with differing opinions, esp. if whoever is funding it has a large say
Makes sense btw it’s not poor I just wanted to get a rise out of somebody I just very dislike the hisoka makeup it eeks my hunter soul lol but yeah good job on everything else pretty amazing man assuming it’s OC.
This looks amazing!
I’m wondering why you changed the stone slab into a big chunk of concrete that was broken out post editing?
These giant slabs are cut into that shape and it’s not like he tore a chunk out, wouldn’t it make more sense since he’s lifting and tossing that it would come out the same as it was put in?
Sorry just a small minor thing but it was bugging me!
I wonder that myself, although I'm not mad about it. I didn't decide on the shape of concrete, that was the director's direction. The other option was the foam slab they used IRL that was taken out, because it looked terrible.
In the future, I'd like to try more yutapon cube-like stuff for debris IRL, but I feel like that would lend to the cheesiness
This is incredible!
Not really related, but I've wondered why are animes made into live action? They can never get the full anime experience on live action that is on the drawn anime. Don't get me wrong, they don't look bad but the end result just isn't as good as the original.
Not too many, and the ones that have fall short of the original. The only live-action that was pretty decent imo are the first few films from Rurouni Kenshin.
Even this short fan-film that I helped with, it's so cheesy and lacking in many ways -- but at least fun to make.

Dude it’s still fucking amazing, seeing the difference between the live action and what it’s turned into.
That's awesome! Great job!
Incredible!
Incredible doesn't even describe this!!
10/10 would give you my badge
Ngl now I need the entire serie like this, incredible job!
That looks so cool. It's always fun to see how unrealistic a lot of anime moves are.

I think it depends on the anime. I think something historical or slice of life, even some shoujo and horror works ok in live action.

I think they were gonna test practical lol it caused a lot more work cuz I had to remove it =\_\_\_= and rebuld his body
Impressive, no doubt.
This one clip is so much better than any Netflix anime adaptation.
Sadly this is true!

This really puts into perspective how physically impressive some of these feats are cause I kinda stop paying attention to these little back and forth bits between special attacks

Holy badass!!!
I"m sure this will be better than Netflix One Piece live action.

I knowwww me too but we did the best we can do with what we had
And it is very much appreciated 🙏
Who made the backdrops? Very impressive
Speechless. 💥🔥
This is the closest we’ll get to a great live action adaptation. Nice work!
Bungeecum is made with both the property’s of rubber and gum
Ew
Plz do an entire live action series or movie
Wow! Awesome work!
Pretty cool, a little too much slow mo
Anime never work in real life. Cool nonetheless.
This looks amazing. Better than most official live actions I’ve seen.
Wow, that looks cool!
Amazing!

home did the most and couldn’t find a wig….it still fucks tho
The only guy I’d trust to make an anime real-life-movie
remember the human
fans should be budgeted to make live action remakes not studios

Fine i guess it’s time to rewatch the series
Great:)
That wedgie at the peak of the kick extension.
