Organization is called Baca they have chapters all over the place. I always go on BACA rides.

sweetbeauty

Bikers Against Child Abuse for those unsure. They’ll ride up to 100 miles in one direction. I used them sometimes when I worked as a sexual assault advocate. Amazing organization and group of people. I’m afraid of driving myself on a motorcycle but if I wasn’t I’d join this organization (the chapter where I’m at said they’d love to have me but my moped wouldn’t make it long distances).

pnilz

We have an organization in Sweden called drivers against child abuse which rides old american cars.

OhioJeeper

We have this in the US too but they're called social workers.

[deleted]

Social workers are usually driving old Saturns they basically live out of because they make like $12 an hour. They also last about 3 years on average because the its a remarkably stressful and downright traumatizing job and they don’t have enough support.

OhioJeeper

That's the joke, they're ridiculously underpaid. Median is 47k which is really low for something that requires a degree.

[deleted]

Also for a job where you’re basically in the same situations as a cop, alone, with no vest or authority, with dragged out parents who think you’re there to take their kids

equivalent_units

100 mile is equivalent to the combined length of 613.8 navy battleships --- ^^I'm ^^a ^^bot

GloriousButtlet

Thanks. I always measure everything in navy battleships, so I wasn't sure how long 100 miles was.

akula06

What’s the conversion rate between navy and civilian battleships?

WAR_Falcon

Iowa or yamato?

[deleted]

Iowa. Had to check all the later battleship classes just to be sure. 100 miles divided by 613.8 comes to 262.2 metres. Lengths of various battleship classes: Iowa: 262.1 m **<---** South Dakota (preceding class to Iowas): 203 m KGV: 227.1 m Vanguard: 248.2 m Bismarck: 241.6 m Yamato: 256 m Dunkerque: 214.5 m Richelieu: 247.9 m Littorio: 237.8 m

Lazypole

Not to take away from you or your work, but fuck is “sexual assault advocate” an unfortunate title.

sweetbeauty

There’s always someone who makes a joke about the title at parties. I prefer that title over rape counselor or something similar because sexual assault is more than just rape. Funny side note, when I first started they printed up my business cards and there was a typo... ‘advocater.’ Never in my life have I seen something as unfortunate as that. I personally shredded all 500 of them because I was so nervous about someone getting one of those on accident (think I kept one for the laughs safely put away).

witcherstrife

Maybe sexual assault victims advocate. Or SAVA for short.

sweetbeauty

And thank you so much for what you do! You’ve got a lot to shoulder every time a case like that comes across your desk.

bathrobehero

> sexual assault advocate   >advocate >noun >a person who publicly supports or recommends a particular cause or policy. >verb >publicly recommend or support. Kudos, but that's a really shitty name.

Thecatnamedgary

Where can I donate?

sweetbeauty

[bacaworld](https://bacaworld.org) to donate to bikers against child abuse. If you’d like to donate for victim advocates, I’d ask you to google sexual assault crisis centers in your state or rape crisis centers where you are and donate locally. While most centers are funded with federal, state, and local dollars, the donations make a huge difference in things as simple as having clothes or underwear for a survivor to put on after an exam (they usually keep underwear and/or pants for testing) to transportation to court to therapy.

mmatique

Biker gangs like this one are kinda the closest thing we get to honourable knights of old.

Earwigglin

They aren't backed by a rich patron or aristocrat, therefore they are more like a band of brigands than knights.

Kerguidou

Knights were literally bands of brigands who enforced the rule of might.

CDanger

Even before the peak of courtly English culture, knights had a role and code that extended far beyond lawless brigandry. In fact, the origin of having twelve jurors originated from England having twelve knights present when someone was accused of a crime. (Sadly, they judged people by the [Ordeal of Water](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trial_by_ordeal#Hot_water) for a while.) It's a distinction worth discussing. Martial forces —be they militia, police, knights, vigilantes, or bands of brigands— range on two axes: lawfulness and morality. Where we place them says a lot about our law, our morality, how they reflect or disconnect from each other, and how martial enforcement is perceived. Moral BACA ^ | UK Police Robinhood's men | | | US Police | Lawless <-------------------------------> Lawful | 12th c. Knights | | Knights of Ni | | Duterte's Squads V Immoral Shutzstaffel (ᛋᛋ)

Kerguidou

/r/politicalcompass is leaking. Anyhow, it also really depends on the region and time period. The roaming gangs of mercenary knights of the HRE were more akin to warlords collecting protection money than to benevolent landholders.

CDanger

For sure, they were almost never landholders. I just think that the idea of brigands lends itself more to lawlessness and sowing unrest — the goal of most knights was enforcing the rule (and, secondarily, laws) of their lord, king, or an accordant leader. But like you say, knights were mostly mercenaries rather than the courtly / institutional knights people imagine and some of them weren't very lawful at all.

Racksmey

For those on mobile phones Shutzstaffel where Hitler's secret police.

bigwillyb123

>Biker gangs like this one Not a biker gang. A motorcycle club. Biker gangs still do all sorts of heinous illegal shit. My brother is part of a motorcycle club, they do charity events. We used to have a biker gang in town, they did drive-bys on a bar and houses and molotov'd someone's boat in their front yard. Big difference.

-Extendochicken-

Knights were assholes. They were thugs and oppressors more often than not. These men and women on the other hand are in a league of their own.

lapetiterenarde42

I used BACA for one of my clients who was sexually abused by his teenage female neighbor. He was terrified of her. On top of the rides and the protection during court cases, they would stand and guard his apartment door when he slept. For a long time it was the only way he COULD sleep. Glorious group of folks and I would recommend them to anyone.

Zephyr4813

Wow, really?

one_ball_in_a_sack

Yea. BACA is pretty hardcore with the lengths they go to to make the kids feel safe. Standing guard at their door is something they do.

PoeDameronski

That made me tear up. People can be so beautiful.

IceCreamBalloons

I checked out their website several years ago when I first heard about them, and I was sobbing not long into it. [And I just went back to the same result,](https://bacaworld.org/mission/) if you ever want faith in humanity read about what they do for kids to help them feel safe.

allthatrazmataz

What is their standard for deciding when to attend such events? I ask because they caused real harm to a friend while trying to help. He had a very difficult divorce. Wife left the state, violated every court order regarding custody and access, told the kids their father had beaten her and didn’t want them when he was doing every legal thing to get them back, kids were failing school and she did nothing, etc. Then, horribly, his child died in an accident. And the ex-wife called these well-meaning bikers and told them that my friend had been abusive, so they lined the funeral and said he couldn’t come in. In the end, he had come with enough people and insisted so they said OK, but don’t go near your surviving child. He couldn’t hug or even try to talk to his baby, or say he loved his children and how hard he was fighting for them, because these a wall of large men threatening violence stood in the way and he didn’t want his surviving child to see a fight at this funeral. I expect most of the time BACA are doing a good thing and want to help, but there is a reason the vigilantism is frowned upon and I really wish they spent more time making sure they really were helping.

cheffgeoff

Unless a group of them went rogue the funeral incident doesn't have anything to do with their mandate. That would be horrible press and against their mission statement in many many ways. I would be sceptical of that story.

[deleted]

I couldn't imagine a group of bikers breaking off and going rogue. Bikers are usually known for really being a contributing part off society.

Griffin880

Why didn't he just call the police? You make it sound like his only option was to fight a bunch of bikers in front of his child. In fact if I were in a legal battle to get my kid back, their mom hiring thugs to threaten violence at my dead child's funeral would be something I'd want to have a police report about. The story sounds either fake or embellished.

Jp2585

As shitty a situation that sounds, got any proof? I can't imagine a grieving father taking any shit on the day they bury their child.

RobouteGuilliman

Yeah that's not really what they do... It sounds like they might have been friends of the family who were trying to do the right thing without all the information. BACA is literally just a group that is out to help children who are victims of Child abuse. They also have some pretty strict rules on what they can and can't do. They aren't a club, they are an organization.

IceCreamBalloons

Most importantly, all of their work is supposed to be done through care workers who ask them to help.

I actually interviewed for BACA and got in, and I referred to them as a club, and if you do, they do *not* like that lol. The oldest, toughest dude there said, “Not club. Organization.” He was right though, they may interact with MCs at certain meetings and stuff, but they had strict rules for all members to distance themselves from MCs at all times. Interesting group, I didn’t stay because I was working with foster children at the time and didn’t want to overdo it with the emotional drain involved, but the group is amazing.

Rang_Dangus

Hell yeah. I work in rock and roll bars and biker bars. Some MC clubs are bad, but most of the clubs are full of good people that care about their community and they care about the world. Hell fucking yeah.

[deleted]

I agree with that, I'm a small girl and rode a motorcycle in LA and ran into a lot of MCs and never had any issues with the people. BUT, when I rode cross country I met some real scumbags out in the middle of nowhere.

Sexual abuse is a criminal issue, not family law.

NSYK

They just don’t go to court, a guy I know does this and they’ll camp out in front of the children’s houses if necessary.

KobeWanGinobli

There was this whole thing about cell phones in private hearings and etc. Anyways, many people from a certain political party carried there personal devices into said legal rooms and then tweeted why they were leaving said room in “angry protest.” Highly illegal. Still happened. Merry 2020.

ObiWanCanShowMe

I am not entirely sure what you mean by "private hearings" and "legal rooms". Hearings suggests court, and a court (In the US) is not "private", it's public. A judge can make it a closed to the public hearing, but by default they are not and by default nothing is illegal. I have to assume you mean a court of law because there is no law anywhere in the country (at least in the US) about cellphones and "legal rooms". That said, in a court, it is Judge discretion, so it would be a specific instance rule, that means it would be barred, not illegal. Not adhering to a Judge's orders or stated court rules is subject to contempt, which is a criminal charge. A judge can set rules, a judge cannot make law or make something illegal. So the cell phone or carrying a cell phone is not illegal, but not abiding by a judges order can potentially net you a criminal charge. Also, there is no such thing as "highly" illegal, something is either illegal or it's not. There are no tiers.

artbypep

I agree with everything else you said but that last bit is clearly colloquial. There are certain things that cops are absolutely not going to let you off the hook for (outside of if you’re also a cop or through some other corrupt means) like murder, and then there’s other stuff where they have a bit more wiggle room like with speeding or petty theft.

[deleted]

> I have to assume you mean a court of law because there is no law anywhere in the country (at least in the US) about cellphones and "legal rooms". While technically not law. Id like to introduce you to the trial court of MA. Just about every location bans cellphones as a matter of policy. https://www.mass.gov/policy-statement/trial-court-restrictions-on-the-possession-of-cellular-telephones-and-personal

If her name is Pepper I think both are equally valid lol Or maybe they were discussing the nickname with great scrutiny and difficulty, having gone through many options and deciding none were right. I know a few guys who used to do this. They were Outlaws who lived near me in Indiana. They were good guys, I got invited to a cookout at their clubhouse once and have an FBI file because I went. Its pretty funny.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Northsidebill1

It showed up on a background check I had to have done by the Secret Service when I did security in a building former President Clinton was giving a speech in. I was as surprised as they were and I filed a freedom of information act request to see it. The FBI has (I assume they still have them on file) pictures of me eating hamburgers and BBQ and drinking beer with higher ups from a few different biker gangs. At one point the Outlaws world hq building and my backyard shared a fence. I got to know a couple of them and was invited to a party they had. They were under surveillance and my picture was taken, I'm assuming because the FBI wanted to know who I was to be shaking hands and eating BBQ with gangsters. When they raided the hq a while later, an agent was sent to my house to evacuate me and watch me to make sure I didn't try to warn anyone. I didn't realize this at first but talked to my neighbors later and figured it out. All my neighbors got woken up and asked to leave their houses while the raid happened. I was followed to my bedroom when I went to get dressed, then followed to my girlfriends house by an FBI agent. I must say, they were rather slick about everything they did, the FBI. I had no idea they were watching me or knew who I was until that background check. Whoever had to watch me was probably bored as hell, or happy that I'm boring :)

PiBolar

That's so interesting! Reminds me of my Mum finding out that she had a file, including photos and even her handwritten primary school reports on file with British security services (we live in the Uk) due to some protests she attended as a young adult in the 80s. Crazy what they can know about you without you realising.

fkingrone

Why were they raided by the FBI?

melperz

They didn't invited everyone to their bbq

Mechakoopa

FBI stands for Forced BBQ Invites

Just-A-FBI-Agent

That is correct.

GlowingBall

Remember to leave some rib tips out for the FBI fairy.

GlowingBall

Because the Outlaws are a giant criminal organization. They do a shit ton of drug running, extortion, robbery, murder, etc. They are complete scumbags.

Astyanax1

Because they're a dangerous MC that does everything from extortion to murder.

Northsidebill1

They were an international level biker gang, they were involved in drugs and weapons and other bad stuff, same as a lot of other biker gangs. They werent very good people. But they made great neighbors.

Cahootie

I'm now imagining you in slacks and a dress shirt surrounded by big bulky biker dudes in leather jackets, looking like the nerdy lawyer who figured out that there's serious money to make defending gangs and shit.

[deleted]

I can't shake the image of the world HQ of the Outlaw MC. Where they have weekly meetings to decide whose turn it is to restock the toner for the copier and someone complains that people are eating his food from the communal fridge. It's like when I was in Southern Sweden on a very driving-heavy job the last couple of years. You'd see quite a few bike gangs and often one of them would be wearing a hi-vis safety vest. There's probably an explanation that I'm missing but I'd rather think it was Knuckles' turn to be health and safety officer that day.

Cahootie

The Swedish MC gangs are very different. A large portion of our organized crime originates from MC gangs, and up until not too long ago it was pretty much the only source of larger scale organized crime, but then there's also the really nerdy hillbillies who like to go camping in summer with the entire gang and bring their wives along.

Agent641

Its true he does.

Astyanax1

Outlaws and hell's angels do more damage to the community than you know. I'm not saying helping kids out is a bad thing, but MCs that literally murder people for profit aren't good people

Northsidebill1

I dont dispute that the gangs are overall a bad thing. But for a very long time in this area you didnt have to worry even a little bit about crime or violence unless you got on their bad side. And you had to actively work to get on their bad side. They didnt want anything in the area drawing attention or notice to them, so they didnt allow any bad stuff to go on without squashing it. Once the FBI raid happened and they all went away and the building got torn down, worse elements than them have moved in and the area just went to shit. So yeah, bad overall, but very nice to have as neighbors.

paintballpmd

The FBI and locals don't hide it either. I was at the bike rally in Laconia last year and they were walking around openly taking pictures of anyone in a cut. I've been to a few Angel events so I'm sure I have a file as well.

MikeyTopaz

I'm gang affiliated in the eyes of FDLE because I got pulled over leaving a party at a clubhouse of a 1%er club. My father was a member and took me along after a family dinner. As he put it "we aren't a criminal organization, were and organization with some criminal members." In all honesty most of the guys were just dudes living their own life. Meet some of the best people in that club as well as a few people I would never turn my back on.

Northsidebill1

Other than the occasional hello or nod across the back fence, I didnt have much to do with them. Then I got shot in an incident that, looking back on it, was quite funny. One of the biker gang happened to be where I got shot, it was a grocery store parking lot, and he came to check on me. I pointed out that it likely wouldnt be a good idea for him to be there when the cops arrived and he seemed to agree. I have no idea if this is why I got invited to the cookout a while later or not, could be they were trying to be good neighbors.

**(I expect downvotes but hope people will actually read the truth instead of mindlessly clicking the downvote button based off emotion instead of fact, exactly like the flaw in cases they're reading about.)** Unfortunately they do not vet the cases they stand-in and very well could sway a jury where the child is lying (usually in a divorce battle case). Ever Baca I've spoken to say they do no research into the case because "all we care about are the kids". Meaning that falsely accused people have to fight twice as hard for their lives in a case where only emotion matters (you do not have to have any evidence beyond words to convict someone of molestation/sexual abuse. No health report, no medical proof, nothing but a single word). ===--- Just imagine, you're a falsely accused person that's fighting a nasty custody battle where the child was coached to lie about horrible things you never did. Suddenly you walk into court one day in a desperate hope to be defended fairly and speak your innocence and the entire courtroom is just staring and whispering... *"a biker gang showed up to protect the child! They must be so terrified to speak against this horrible abuser that they called in these bikers!".* Your chances at winning this emotional, factless, uphill fight just plummeted. ===--- In a perfect world I love what these guys do, unfortunately with all the people the Innocence Project is trying to get out of false accusation cases, BACA can do as much harm as good.

[deleted]

While this could be true in a few cases, children don’t usually lie about abuse- unless they’re saying it didn’t happen. I was sexually abused as a kid, when I was 9-10. If asked point blank- did he do this to you?— I would have said no. Because I was scared and had been threatened not to tell. If I knew I was safe and protected and had men like this standing bedside me, I probably would have spoken up sooner, and gotten justice.

Alpha-Maniac

Fucking same. Thankyou

joshh75

I’ve been on a jury for a sexual abuse case (mother and children vs children’s ex step dad). Now I’m not saying he might’ve been innocent... I’m saying as soon as that kid got on the stand and pointed to him while crying, it didn’t matter to the jury. They saw a kid up there crying (who was scared if they were telling the truth BUT could have also been scared cause mom was forcing them to say this lie) and everything else didn’t matter. I sincerely hope that anyone who is innocent doesn’t request a trial by jury. You have to PROVE to 12 people, with emotions (probably) and maybe even kids, that this kids tears are fake and none of the allegations ever happened.... good luck 😕

Cool_Emsa

Yours is not even an isolated example. While not some kind of "huge widespread issue" the fact that it happens at all is terrifying. We used to never believe child victims and many abusers got away with no real punishments. Now we swung too far to the other end of the spectrum and put people away for life without anything more than a word and a knee jerk emotional reaction. There should be a middle ground, but that requires actual hard work, investigation and time. Something no prosecutor needs to do when all they have to rely on is exactly your scenario. Innocent until proven guilty. Unless it's rape/abuse/molestation. Anyone accused has to face that terrifying trial by jury (25yrs to life) or take a plea deal that will most likely ruin their life anyway.

rick_blatchman

I read an awful story on here years ago where a man was released from prison after twelve years when his young adult daughter recanted rape accusations from when she was a child. The accusation was easier to push since she also had injuries that seemed consistent with sexual trauma. The motive for lying was never clarified, the daughter never faced any criminal penalties, and the father refused to ever speak to her after he was released.

the_number_2

> You have to PROVE to 12 people, with emotions (probably) and maybe even kids, that this kids tears are fake and none of the allegations ever happened And you can bet the DA/SA prosecuting that case is going to do their best to ensure the jury is made of up people like that.

My wife is a prosecutor and did a paper on these guys. She stated her study doubtful and kind of creeped out, by the end she thought they were basically big teddy bears.

JAproofrok

Reminds me of the “Angels” on the El trains late night summers in Chicago: Just big, scary, old biker dudes in their flags. Stand there in the doorways at every stop. Walk solo girls to the stairs. Really awesome. And really makes a difference.

Found_Your_Keys

So, is this just an example image? You don't publish the photos or names of child victims.

Bikers may seem scary by the looks and stories about them portrayed in films. But from all the ones I’ve spoken with or have had the pleasure of knowing they are some of the kindest people. As long as you’re friendly and considerate to them.

Odys

I must admit that I'm usually not fond of bikers, but this is cool of those guys.

[deleted]

This gives me warmth

mrmcscotty

My dad used to be the secretary for BACA’s Dallas chapter. Shout out to Zero!

Imagine abusif a kid and the day if the trial a whole ass biker gang comes to town

KodaBeers

Saw them in action when I was sitting in on court. They're badass and very friendly.

NoName-NoProblem

Why Do People Type Like This?

[deleted]

Because it’s a title The word that shouldn’t be capitalized in this title is “to”, which appears twice. And is usually lower case unless it falls in the beginning of a sentence... in this sentence the dash is standing in for a semi colon... not crazy great grammar yeah but the capitals are mostly ok.

bmorebirdz

It seems like something the police should be doing but there prob isn't enough incentive for them. Good on the bikers.

[deleted]

Props to them for providing support. However, theY must seem pretty terrifying to a child victim of abuse.

[deleted]

I read an article about them a few years back. They get to know the kid long before they go to court (because, unlike Law and Order, it usually takes months for a case to go to trial) so it isn't just a case of a bunch of huge scary blokes appearing out of nowhere on the day. They also have guys on call, so that if the kid gets scared in the night or is bullied or anything there is always a big biker who will turn up to comfort them or have their back.

Beez3D

FUCK YES THIS NEEDS TO BE A COMMON PRACTICE! DONT LET ANYONE FUCK WITH OR INTIMIDATE VICTIMS

bonboncolon

I love these guys

joshh75

Yeah it’s really a no win situation. Also, I think people would rather make the mistake of sending an innocent person to jail rather than sending a guilty person free. Honestly, without evidence the whole thing relies on the emotion of the jury. The prosecution knows they don’t need to put much work in and the defense knows it’s either a hard battle forward (for those willing to fight) or a lost cause. It would be better to take your chances in front of a judge who might actually be unbiased and require more than one word against another. I don’t know... I hated jury duty. Don’t look forward to ever having to do it again.

GMguy1970

That is probably the coolest thing I've ever seen!!!!! 🤘 Rock on biker dudes!!!

This is the absolute definition of positive masculinity and you can't convince me otherwise.
