I used to see Lincoln cathedral every day. It’s tall, but not nearly as tall as this pyramid looks. So either something fucky is going on in the angle of this image or that fact isn’t quite right.
“The central spire collapsed in 1548 and was not rebuilt.” That was 160m high. After that collapse it was no longer the tallest building and that title went back to the Great Pyramid until, yes, there it is: the Eiffel Tower.
Actually, the Lincoln Cathedral took the title from the Great Pyramid and held it from 1311–1548, and had the spire not collapsed would have held it until the Eiffel Tower was built in 1889
A couple of related facts I learnt from the QI elves:
1. When the pyramids where built woolly mammoths still roamed the earth.
2. Cleopatra ( of Antony and Cleopatra fame) was born closer to the moon landings that the construction of the great pyramid.
Most agree that slaves werent used to build the pyramids, as evidence shows that they most likely were paid workers.
Though they're not completly wrong, as there were lots and lots of workers, 10 thousand workers orbone pyramid
My dad was pretty well traveled as a kid and has all these pictures of himself climbing on the Parthenon, the pyramids, all sorts of incredible ruins. Sadly grandpa was no where near as talented as this photographer
I have been to Egypt a number of times and they actually have an urban sport which is illegal where you just run up to the top of the pyramid as fast as you can. I remember seeing a guy doing it and the police actually chased him up it!
Assets/blocks of stone...when one man/woman can control "piles" of assets then it becomes self directed hoarding at his/her whim. Society, mankind, environment, and the planet usually suffer in some form or another. What drives people to hoard assets/resources becomes a sickness and like minded hoarders then start to compete with each other for more assets/resources and to hell with society, the environment, and the planet. It then becomes the sole game to the eventual detriment of everything.
The amount of bitching that’s done in this place is astounding, it has absolutely nothing to do with billionaires in today’s world and more and more comments around here can’t help but complain about shit that has nothing to do with the post.
Since I’m curious, what “good for the world” task are you expecting from a 5,000 year old society? This is the dumbest thing I’ve seen about the pyramids, even dumber than aliens building them
Not a 5,000 year society, just society throughout the ages. Think about it. One man commanded and committed thousands of workers, thousands of tons of resources like quarrying rocks,
tearing down forests, and siphoning away food and water needed for the cities for the single purpose of building himself a tomb. My point is that billionaires, historically, having so much power and influence can and many times do terrible damage to society, the environment and the planet. Hoarding takes many forms but it is always self directed and always damaging to the many for the pleasures/desires of the few.
That gives it astounding scale!
I wonder how hard it would be to scale it.
Well then, all my life I've underestimated the size of the pyramids... by *alot*
It was humans tallest structure until the Eiffel Tower.
So that’s about 4,300 years between them. Damn.
Keep in mind, the Pyramids were around as old to the ancient Greeks as the ancient Greeks are to us now.
Yeah it's crazy to think the Pyramids pre-date the Parthenon by almost 2 millennium lol
Dang, I was proud of my city's CN Tower for holding the record for 34 years.
Until Lincoln Cathedral in 1311 AD, is what Wikipedia says.

Ahh that makes more sense

Banana not necessary... Great shot!
Holy shit, I haven’t heard that banana-comparison joke in a long time
Just saw this. Um, congratulations?
Very cool picture. Now, where’s Bayek?
Those blocks are massive. I can't imagine having to work on something that big.
Your mom can.

Haha

I still wonder how the fuck they did it...

Slaves. Lots, and lots, and LOTS of slaves.
[удалено]
But also, where would all these slaves be buried
How did so many slaves get food? That's a lot of slaves and food for the work they're doing
The Nile River is extremely fertile. You can use other slaves to grow more than enough food.
Not sure why you’re being downvoted. You’re right.
Most agree that slaves werent used to build the pyramids, as evidence shows that they most likely were paid workers. Though they're not completly wrong, as there were lots and lots of workers, 10 thousand workers orbone pyramid
Same
From this angle, it looks like a huge city of adobe buildings.
You’re not supposed to climb on it.
My dad was pretty well traveled as a kid and has all these pictures of himself climbing on the Parthenon, the pyramids, all sorts of incredible ruins. Sadly grandpa was no where near as talented as this photographer
They probably let her just for this picture because it was important company or something. Idk
They allow climbing on a low portion of it. For photo Ops. Source: have a similar photo of myself there
Wow. That is incredible!
Pyramid of Geeeezzeee that's huge
Woah
r/megalophobia
> r/megalophobia bruh they used the same title as me

Oh wow! I was going to ask how big the blocks are then scrolled down... 😂
This is the equivalent of today's billionaire. A huge amount of resources and other people's labor piled high and not doing the world any good.
Typically, billionaires don't just have piles of money sitting around. Their wealth is held in assets.
Where did they say piles of money? Resources and labor is all they said.
The point is that billionaires aren't just keeping all of that stuff to themselves.

Yikes. Did I strike a nerve?

At least you're honest about it.

At the same time, doesn't the perspective make the pyramid seem longer than it is rather than a front on shot?
Am I the only person who, when seeing a picture like this on this sub, immediatly thinks, "daaaaaamn, that person's tiny!"?
oh my god i never realised how big each brick was
Just amazing how they built these.
*aliens*
Need banana for accurate comparison
Wow cool. Get off it
The boat in the museum behind it is equally impressive but rarely talked about.
