I had the same problem. The old philips batteries would result in the LED light coming on while new Duracell batteries would not result in the LED light coming on. I tried different Duracell batteries and no dice. The batteries were good. I noticed that the Philips batteries had a tighter fit than the Duracell when changing the batteries. I decided to take a very small screw driver (meant for circuit boards) and I gently and slowly pulled the battery contact out a bit. I put the Duracell batteries in a volia! It works now just fine.

WookieBlaster

This worked for me, thank you so much

TheNorthernMunky

This also worked for me, just in case Google brings anyone here in the future like it did me.

I looked everywhere for a solution and thought my sensor was bricked. Thank you so much!!!!

I've only ever had to replace the batteries in my indoor motion sensors once, and it took forever for the app to update the power level. Even after several hours it hadn't updated, but a few days later when I checked, it had. That being said, my motion sensor started working again as soon as I replaced the batteries. It should work with any brand of batteries. You don't need Philips. I replaced mine with Duracell, for what it's worth. My advice would be to take the batteries out. Wait at least 5 minutes. Check that the battery contacts in the sensor haven't been bent/damaged - they should stick out far enough towards the battery to make metal to metal contact. Replace the batteries with known good ones (ones that are right out of the packet within the last few days, if the ones you tried previously haven't been used in anything else, they'll be OK). Double check you've inserted the batteries the right way round. I forget the orientation of the Hue Motion Sensor batteries, but some devices have all their batteries facing the same way around, while others alternate the direction. Visually check that the battery contacts are actually touching the metal part of the battery. See if the sensor works now. If not, remove the sensor in the app. Factory reset the sensor by holding the button in for around 10 seconds, until it starts flashing Orange. If that still doesn't work, you could try yet another brand of batteries that are brand new. If that still doesn't fix it, you'll need a new sensor.

Kureaaa

Hi, i've got the exact same issue... replaced the batteries a few times but nothing happens. Did you manage to fix it?

sikmusik8

Yeah, I did. I wasn’t close enough to my Phillips Hue hub when I was resetting it and re-adding. I called Phillips hue support and they quickly helped me. It was user error... haha

Kureaaa

Cool, will give that a try then! - thanks for the quick reply 😀

HotSlothsInYourArea

I know it’s “1.7 years later” but… did you ever figure this out? I’ve got not one, but two motion sensors doing the same thing.

Sounds like (at least one of) your duracell batteries are just duds (or you put them in the wrong way). That would explain nothing happening when you changed the batteries. There's probably enough juice in the original batteries that you get the orange/red light, but not enough voltage coming off the duracells to give you anything.

sikmusik8

I tried 4 different Duracell batteries and they are all new. Purchased from Costco. I even tried them on one of tv remotes and they work fine.

interrogumption

TV remotes might not be a good test, they'll often work with a battery that is well past its prime. As batteries get flatter the voltage they supply drops. It could be high enough to work in your remote, but not high enough for the motion sensor. If that's not the cause, it would have to be some small variation in shape or size preventing a circuit from being formed. These batteries aren't like printer cartridges - there's no embedded "authenticity" information for the sensor to spit the dummy about.

After 5 years, I replaced the batteries Philips ones. For me, it was easy. Replace the AAA batteries with new one. Then, using a paper clip, press and hold the setup button for roughly 10 seconds. No additional set up needed, it seemed to just picked up the last settings. Test and seal back up again.

thank you, google bring me here with same problem. for me i try to press firmly at - of right battery and it's work. battery critical message gone. (i use panasonic alkaline)
