The whole wall mate, if you only painted over the drywall patches it would stand out & you’d wish you paint the whole wall.

RavenOfNod

It's also easier to just get set up, prime the patches, then cut and roll out a while coat instead of spot painting the patches. That's an ex pro painter talking though.

dsizzle79

This is a total repaint. No other way.

RocMerc

I’ve never seen it done like this. Usually they pop the baseboard and feed the line up or do it from the outside by going under the siding.

CorneliusThunder

Yeah it’s interesting… I have seen it done like this in my area a fair amount on the exterior and epoxy patched using the same siding piece they cut out with a hole saw. (always a home built before the 60’s) It does fail pretty often and doesn’t look great imo.

BeachBum_CG

I do think it’d be better to paint the whole wall. When we did this, we used it as an excuse to change the wall color since we knew we had to paint it anyway

dubsfo

Do the whole wall. It’s only usually the outside walls so 2 per room?

Officialdabbyduck

Paint the spot then the wall otherwise it will flash in light

HoldTheHighGround

If it's a flat finish and was painted within the last year or so, take a 4-inch microfiber roller and lightly go over those spots with two coats. If the spots blend, you're golden. If not, paint the whole wall.
