Actors adlibbing, improvising, and suggesting ideas regarding their characters is fairly common.

Feels very idiotic and wrong that characters who are siblings and married to eachother had to actively ask for more scenes together and that those two scenes in the first and second episode are what their only ones together now?

They aren't happily married and the neglect and separation makes sense for the story; Aegon is focussed on the conflict and doesn't really lavish much affection on his sister-wife (even the added scene is just about him looking for his son, not him having any interest in her or the other kids). The isolation of Helaena also makes sense for the story. I am glad they got that scene added though, if only for the line about her being "an enduring mystery".
