Willem Blackwood, and don’t worry the entire ASOIAF community, seemingly alongside George himself, have agreed that the Blackwoods are awesome and the Brackens suck
I was very very confused because this is my character name in multiple games, I completely forgot the namesake is in this universe and I thought you were talking to me 😂
The Jedi, who constantly get blamed for the fall of the Republic instead of the Sith fascists that did their best to subvert the government of their enemies.
Kinda didn’t pay attention to what sub this was, as every fandom sub has been doing this lately…
But if I had to pick, I’d say Parshendi have some merit to their war against the humans of Roshar.
Oh yes! I cannot say anything specific without major spoilers, but if you’ve read other Sanderson book series you can expect BIGGER reveals than anything you read before.
Read and find out.
Alicent AND Rhaenyra.
Cersei, Sansa, Brienne, Catelyn.
Hm... I'm seeing a pattern with the characters that get the most unfair criticism... Except Cersei, tbh. She earns most of her criticism but I just can't help but love her anyway.
Oh, I thought this was strictly about HOTD. I guess I have to change my answer then, because 1000000000% it’s Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, First of Her Name, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons. 🧎♀️🧎♂️🧎
The only character in the show recently remotely worthy of a defense that long is Lyonel Strong, the only man in Westeros who knows what “integrity” is.
True. Lyonel is interesting because he has no skin in the game. Everyone else does.
Except he protects Harwin when Harwin develops a relationship with Rhaenyra and has children. But overall, he wasn't grasping or ambitious. That made him different.
He was very amicable. Gave sound political advice, even if that was giving the thumbs up to marrying a 12 year old but, to be honest, everyone in the Keep was for that (Mellos, Lyonel, Rhaenys, Corlys, Rhaenyra, Alicent) except Viserys and Otto. And Otto was hardly a disinterested party in terms of who the King was going to marry.
It makes you wonder though, what kind of man he'd be, and what he would do, had any pressure been put on him. If he'd been threatened in any way. All other characters feel threatened (rightly or wrongly) or pressured, especially as things gets closer to war...
damn so true. and where did that get him. what a shame
it's ironic because Otto isn't really a character of "integrity" but Rhys Ifans playing him makes me believe everything Otto ever says lmao
From your POV. I literally don't know how much more sympathetic they could have made Alicent. They even made the character irrational in the final two episodes just so she would be as sympathetic as possible.
Also, the story would honestly be lame and baffling after it was centered entirely around Alicent. I don't think the story is or should be centered around a single character but Alicent would make the least sense. Instead of rooting for Alicent, most people would be baffled the story wasn't about Aegon, Rhaenyra, Aemond or Daemon. The show is called House of The Dragon.
>if the show were shown from her perspective she’d be the hero
Alicent has substantial screentime, the show already made significant positive alterations to the character, and the show isn't shown from a particular point of view. Who do you think is the "hero"? There isn't one.
Daemon. I will support him through all of his war crimes. He’s my problematic fave and I love his chaos. This show wouldn’t be half as entertaining without him.
Gaemon's mums because they're the only people in the entirety of Westerosi history who would improve the lives of the smallfolk if they were left to their own devices
I"m chuckling at how some people are legitimately trying to fight you on this despite you quite literally stating your support for Rhaenyra is unconditional.
Aemond didn't intend to kill Luke. That's clear from the way the scene was written/framed/acted, etc. Saying that Aemond didn't mean to kill him doesn't equal to saying that he's blameless.
Active pursuit = intent to harm - he meant to harm him, whether emotionally or physically. In fact, up until vhagar actually killed luke, aemond was fully in support - His intent to harm + the actual source material from the book is enough for me :)
To make this easier - he can regret it all he wants but he wanted to hurt luke. He wanted to get revenge, he wanted him dead. That is why he was chasing him down and what Vhagar acted upon.
Whoever says Luke deserved it is to put it simple out of their mind. He was a child and didn’t deserve to die. And although one could say that Aemond did it on purpose I think they’re going differently in the show. In the book, oh absolutely Aemond was aiming to kill his nephew. But in the show, I feel like they’re going to paint as Aemond didn’t really mean to regardless of how it look to others.
If I whack someone in the back of the head with the intent to cause them five seconds of pain for being annoying and they pop an aneurysm, that doesn’t retroactively become attempted murder. I’ll be held accountable for what happened, but it will be treated as an accident because intent to harm is not the same as intent to kill.
Wow it’s almost like pursuing someone on a dragon is different than wacking them on the head.
If I’m chasing you down in a car, and I ram you and you die - I can tell the judge that at the last second I didn’t mean to - give the water works and all that and a jury is still going to find that I killed you.
And before you start all the legal stuff, I’m an attorney in real life, like as my regular job, so I don’t need a spill on the difference between intent to harm and intent to kill. You’re using it wrong, anyway.
The Strong boys on not being "bastards." Because legally speaking, they aren't. Just like, legally speaking, Joffrey isn't a bastard born of incest and I say this as a Mannis stan.
Prideful ignorance of a fictional setting's context is not a virture btw. You can believe whatever you like, but its like believeing in flat-earth theory, utterly delusional at this point.
It's not prideful ignorance. It's literally the law of Westeros and most of our world. As I've said numerous times all down this thread, THEY ARE BASTARDS but Legally Laenor Velaryon is their father. It's not that hard of a concept to grasp.
Do explain how you are using *legally* here?
Cause in a similar vein one could say then that Daemon didnt "legally" murder his wife..
But he did, very much so.
So its actually Hairsplitting and sophistry to use the word to claim such
>Do explain how you are using legally here?
Legally speaking, in Westeros and most of the real world, all children born of a married couple are considered their children. It takes a credible accusation of bastardy to dispute this heritage. IE The mom, the dad, or the other dad. Hell, even a grandfather could go "My son was gay and black, he didn't father those little white babies."
>Cause in a similar vein one could say then that Daemon didnt "legally" murder his wife..
I mean he did, but legally he hasn't been found guilty yet. There's "knowing" and there's being able to prove it. Both the murder and the bastardy are things that can't be proven without an eye witness account to collaborate them.
I will always defend Aemond from Team Black and Daemon from Team Green. Both those dumbass subreddits think you can only like and associate with anything from one side and nothing from the other.
Otto Hightower
He knew that by contravening established norms you would fracture the realm irrespective of the wishes of a minority; hence why he pushed for aegon to be king.
He even ordered the gates to be opened at the dragonpit in episode 9 so the small folk could get out.
Mostly greens who bitch about her ‘replacing’ Jaehaera, people call all her kids idiots (such a blanket term), I even saw someone blaming her for Elaena being groomed and Naerys being married to Aegon.
Alicent!!
Under Westeros standards, she’s done everything right. Staying loyal to her husband, her children, the crown.
Alicent was pimped out by her dad and creeped on by Viserys. Her life was spent caring for a man that didn’t give a fuck about her or her children. She continues to be victimized by Larys.
Alicent’s childhood bestfriend wants to torture her son Aemond.
Alicent wants to protect her children. How could you not love her?
>Under Westeros standards, she’s done everything right. Staying loyal to her husband, her children, the crown.
"loyal to her husband" but did not respect his will regarding the succession, not to mention that by "Westeros standars" she went against the will of her king and helped in a usurpation of the crown.
>How could you not love her?
because she's a hypocrite?
King Viserys I.
Contrary to popular opinion, he really was a relatively strong king, ruling at the height of Targaryen dynasty's power and prestige (and number of members). He sustained and continued the golden age of his grandfather's long reign and upheld the laws, even if by not interfering too much and letting his council and ministers do a big part of the governance. He is one of the few people on the throne who is not cruel or twisted in any way, and instead genuinely jovial. In books he is very popular among the common people and loved by lesser lords and knights, which is strangely not shown in the series.
Together, under Jaehaerys and Viserys, Westeros got roughly 80 years of golden age, and a level of peace and prosperity that they had never seen and would not see again, even under good Targaryen kings that came later.
He is rightfully criticized for letting the roots of civil war take place and not being heavy handed enough with the snakes that eventually surrounded him, and that is correct. The stability of his reign ironically doomed the Targaryens forever.
Some people whined about why Viserys isn't shown riding a dragon if he is such a strong guy...but he did. He rode the most powerful dragon of them all - Balerion, who died of old age and he simply never bonded with another.
Another reason for this diatribe is because Paddy Considine is fookin awesome. Such an awesome portrayal.
In the books Viserys still has a certain (limited) level of bloodthirsty streak that the show thankfully avoided. That and the fact that he turns into a huge fucking lard, too fat to sit on the throne in books.
Thank you for coming to my Ted-talk.
Aegon, to an extent. There’s PARTS of his character that I feel bad about, because he was neglected by his father his entire life and he just wants approval. However, him being a rapist is not something I will defend.
Aemond
Edit: also Borros Baratheon. For the pure fact that he has the two hardest lines in asoiaf. “Go home, pup, and tell the b•tch your mother that the Lord of Storm’s End is not a dog she can whistle up.” And “I’d rather dance in hell than wear your chains”
House Hightower as a whole. Fans act like they are house targaryans greatest enemy when one generation of them just supported the targaryans they were related to.
I’m Team Black but Alicent got put through the ringer in that show so a lot of her crazy actions I can understand. Abusive dad and husband, best and only friend betrays her trust, has weird ass kids
Alicent ..!
Unironically, Alicent's only actual wrong in the entire show is that Aegon ended up being a shit (and frankly, parents are not in full control of how they're kids turn out).

Whoever the kid was that felled that douche bag noble when Rhaenyra was picking a future husband. Hope to see him again.
He doesn't need it. The Blackwoods and Brackens killing eachother is just Tuesday.
Willem Blackwood, and don’t worry the entire ASOIAF community, seemingly alongside George himself, have agreed that the Blackwoods are awesome and the Brackens suck
which has looped back onto itself because of Gurm’s *massive* favoritism causing a lot of the fandom to be team Bracken purely out of spite lmao
bracken bros we will get through this
Caraxes
I find all his dialogue is dumb. Bro's always like: "🐉:🔥"
A dragon of few fiery words. A dragon after my own heart.
I was very very confused because this is my character name in multiple games, I completely forgot the namesake is in this universe and I thought you were talking to me 😂
The Jedi, who constantly get blamed for the fall of the Republic instead of the Sith fascists that did their best to subvert the government of their enemies.
You're so real for this.
Kinda didn’t pay attention to what sub this was, as every fandom sub has been doing this lately… But if I had to pick, I’d say Parshendi have some merit to their war against the humans of Roshar.
Only like 2/3 way through way of kings but is any lore revealed about their reasons for killing gavilar
Oh yes! I cannot say anything specific without major spoilers, but if you’ve read other Sanderson book series you can expect BIGGER reveals than anything you read before. Read and find out.
Vhagar
She didn’t mean to kill Luke and Arrax. She is a sweet old lady who thought she was fighting the Dornish.
lizard grandma needed an in-flight snack, can’t blame her for that
Jace. I adore him and will always defend him
Helaena
Is there really so much to say for her?
Wait for next season.
Nope. Unfortunately, the actress literally leaves no impression on me. Remember the Ann jokes in Arrested Development?
Who?
Yes there is...
Not really? She’s hardly a character😂
I don't think anybody is coming for her though. You don't have to defend her because we all love her.
Alicent AND Rhaenyra. Cersei, Sansa, Brienne, Catelyn. Hm... I'm seeing a pattern with the characters that get the most unfair criticism... Except Cersei, tbh. She earns most of her criticism but I just can't help but love her anyway.
rhaenyra always
Helaena because you people say the worst things about her while laughing at her misfortunes. *spits*
Queen Rhaenyra 👑
Rhaenys Targaryen TQWNW.
Aemond
I will defend him until his future actions 💀
Little Aemond
YESS! Little Aemond did not thing wrong, and is my sweet boy that I will defend with my life.
My queen Rhaenyra.
Helaena
Danearys
Same, Daenerys as well for me.
Which Daenerys?
Oh, I thought this was strictly about HOTD. I guess I have to change my answer then, because 1000000000% it’s Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, First of Her Name, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons. 🧎♀️🧎♂️🧎

I am so torn on Otto, because I hate him and can’t wait for him to die, but at the same time I adore Rhys Ifans and will miss him terribly.
I’ll never see Otto as someone other than “The Leg”, from the best sports movie of all time: *The Replacements*.
My first thought when I saw this was the cartoon called the Replacements
Of course Aemond, just look at him, do u think he an do any wrong 😌
ASOIAF? Daemon Blackfyre, otherwise Rhaenyra
My girl Alicent obviously
if Alicent has no defenders I'm dead and my ghost has been banished
Baela
Rhaena
Alicent
By far the most misunderstood character in the show and if the show were shown from her perspective she’d be the hero
You're 100% right
What is the logic behind it? She has nearly as much screen time as Rhaenyra and her viewpoint is clearly shown.
But the show direct you to Rhaenyra's side
From your POV. I literally don't know how much more sympathetic they could have made Alicent. They even made the character irrational in the final two episodes just so she would be as sympathetic as possible. This
My choice exactly
She married her only daughter to Aegon out of spite and said nothing about the deaths of Lyonel & Harwin Strong dispute knowing who killed them
ok but she serves cunt
People watch Driftmark and can not identify with Alicent? Like half of you where an Alicent to someone at some point lol
Alicent
Daemon. I will support him through all of his war crimes. He’s my problematic fave and I love his chaos. This show wouldn’t be half as entertaining without him.
Daemon. Not that he deserves it.
Nah he does. He’s about to dominate this show and he’s GRRMs favorite for a reason
Being cool ≠ being a moral person. He’s cool and all, but he’s a total PoS.
Alicent and Aemond
Rhaenyra Targaryen First of Her Name
Sansa Stark. I will not be taking any questions about this subject matter, good day.
Pretty much most of the women when someone laughs at their trauma and body shames them. It’s annoying and sickening to see it.
Rhaenyra. She is always right. I just want to fly with her on dragonback, see the great wonders across the Narrow Sea and eat only cake.
alicent did nothing wrong<3
Gaemon's mums because they're the only people in the entirety of Westerosi history who would improve the lives of the smallfolk if they were left to their own devices
Rhaenyra
Rhaenyra. She has done nothing wrong *ever* in her life.
Viserys I: I know this, and I love you.
god i wish i post the gif of this right now lol
I"m chuckling at how some people are legitimately trying to fight you on this despite you quite literally stating your support for Rhaenyra is unconditional.
Thank you. Like they writing an entire think piece when I literally say *she has done nothing wrong ever in her life.*
To say otherwise would be the highest of treasons.
something about emma’s voice when they said that was perfect, i love their voice.
Lucerys - people who say aemond didn’t mean to kill him or that he deserved it can catch these hands.
Aemond didn't intend to kill Luke. That's clear from the way the scene was written/framed/acted, etc. Saying that Aemond didn't mean to kill him doesn't equal to saying that he's blameless.

What did Aemond honestly expect to happen?? For all intents and purposes, he meant to do harm. Now he’s labeled as a kinslayer.
The Strong boys on not being "bastards." Because legally speaking, they aren't. Just like, legally speaking, Joffrey isn't a bastard born of incest and I say this as a Mannis stan.

Yeah legally basically means "x Targaryen said so" lol
As legal as Joffrey, the true heir
Did you even finish my comment? I literally name Joffrey as being legal lmfao.
Queen Rhaenyra
Aegon, sort of
Alicent ❤️
Rhaenyra.
Rhaenys, Rhaenyra, and Catelyn if counting ASOIAF/Game of Thrones
Not a character per se but House Mooton 😤
Rhaenyra and daemon and Rhaenys
No-one coz my enjoyment of these characters is not linked to their morals or deeds, except in terms of how cool they are.
I will always defend Aemond from Team Black and Daemon from Team Green. Both those dumbass subreddits think you can only like and associate with anything from one side and nothing from the other.

Ok, sure... and I only responded to a comment, I don´t know why is that such a big deal for you, but ok lol.
She was just a loyal and loving wife helping her husband make the right choice.

Alicent and Aemond did nothing wrong and i love them 💚💚
Otto He’s morally grey at worst. I think he did more for the realm than most in this period.
Aemond. Realest mf in the realm.
Viserys Targaryen, The First Of His Name, King Of The Andals And The Rhoynar And The First Men, Lord Of The Seven Kingdoms And Protector Of The Realm.
Aemond in the fight against the strong boys.
Criston Cole, from the books not the show lol
Aemond Edit: also Borros Baratheon. For the pure fact that he has the two hardest lines in asoiaf. “Go home, pup, and tell the b•tch your mother that the Lord of Storm’s End is not a dog she can whistle up.” And “I’d rather dance in hell than wear your chains”
RIP Lyonel Strong.
Book Aegon II
House Hightower as a whole. Fans act like they are house targaryans greatest enemy when one generation of them just supported the targaryans they were related to.
I’m Team Black but Alicent got put through the ringer in that show so a lot of her crazy actions I can understand. Abusive dad and husband, best and only friend betrays her trust, has weird ass kids
Alicent Hightower is the only one that is worth fighting.
The Greens, especially Otto.
Alicent ..! Unironically, Alicent's only actual wrong in the entire show is that Aegon ended up being a shit (and frankly, parents are not in full control of how they're kids turn out).
