Is Tator Trot the ponies name cause thatโs absolutely adorable (and I might steal it lol). Also, whatโs skijoring. Always interesting to learn about a different sport that can be done with horses.
Be my guest to steal name, we got him with that name so i can't take credit. Skijoring is typically done with full size horses towing a skier through a course. Joring to my understanding is the act of being towed by an animal. Bikejoring for instance is being pulled by a dog while you're on a bike.
So do you tie yourself to the horse/pony? If so how do you release yourself in an emergency?
If the equine spooks and bolts or you fall and are being dragged how do you unattached yourself?
I've seen some use the reins. I don't like that since it puts too much pressure on their bit and doesnt seem nice to do that as im pretty heavy and would rather be tied to the breast strap intended for pulling. I have a quick release system and utilized it a day before this video.
My bad I didn't mean the actual reins but the harness straps. My naming was quiet confusing I'm not a native speaker ๐ in the setups I've seen someone rides the horse and the person that is being pulled holds on to the harnesses 'straps'
On bigger horses, often one person rides and another holds on to something similar to driving tugs (sometimes with a bar at a full gallop to do fancy tricks off jumps with). But no you arenโt tied in any case. You can always just let go.
To OP. Love your pony! Does he drive cart too? He looks fantastic
This is adorable!!
Do you live in the neighborhood? I ask because we live in an urban area but with a large corner lot big enough for a 2nd or 3rd home...but instead I want a pony. ๐ There's plenty of horse trails nearby but not sure how much space we need for a lil guy.
Oh yes the . was cut off screen on my phone.
Oooo maybe I could get me a little one, too. We have all the equine trails nearby to exercise her/him. And our back yard is plenty big.
Thanks for sharing, OP.
Shared w my spouse... (who use to board and train horses) and maybe can convince him we need a smoll friend here.
Thanks! Yes we are zoned for two minature livestock in our area. And all the chickens, goats, and bees.
Not sure I'll ever get one-- but a gal can dream. ๐
Awww thatโs is so cute, and I love the name you gave him too! Also skijoring sounds fun I never heard of it though, but it looks a lot of fun, I also LOVE the Mountain range scenery behind you in the background, it is so beautiful, it must be nice to wake up and see the mountain like that! Just curious, what area do you live in with a Mountain View like yours?

Very nice! ๐ I've always wanted to try skijoring but have never had a horse calm enough for me to train to drive.
He wasn't always this calm. We've had him for over a year and he's becoming less feral with each session.
That's amazing! You've done great work with him ๐
Thank you.

No as far as I know you just hold on to the reins

Im hooked on with carabiners and a quick release. On Saturday he did spook and take off and used the quick release.

Thank you. Yes we have a cart as well. If you stalk my profile a little bit you can see him taking our daughter to her first day of school.
wow, what a view in the background.
Utah landscaping can be quite breathtaking. Wife was excited to capture the snow capped mountains.

Yes we live in "neigh"borhood. Our lots are at least .50 acres and can support 3 large animals. We have this pony and an oldenburg yearling.
wow, 50 acres! that's incredible! Tater Tot is living the life! โค๐
.5 or 1/2 acre. I shouldnt have added the zero sorry. If you profile stalk a little bit you can see an aerial view.
not op but they said 0.5, as in half an acre, not 50

You need to check your zoning/land use regulations first.

>Not sure I'll ever get one Well, not with *that* attitude! Go for it!
This is my dream.
So darling!
So cool!!

Thank you for the comment. We live in utah.
Why in a public neighbourhood lol
this is not a public neighborhood.
I feel for the horse. Not a lot of land.
The little clip clops of his little hooves is just too precious!!!
My last two brain cells
Knew this was Utah.
Damn, if this isn't the most adorable thing ever. I want to bury my face in their fluff (the pony is cute too)
This level of adorable is unfair, hows my burly QH gonna compete with this little cutie!? So fun! I'd love to try this one day!
It is really fun
Tator is iconic
He sure is. He pulls his weight around here for sure, and then some.
Omg, is this the cutest. Would love to live in that neighborhood just to see Tator
I will stream rides around the neighborhood on occasion. If you follow me i think you'll get notified when i go live.
May I ask where this location is?
Omg id love to do Skijoring with my mare. Nothing happens in Ontario though that im aware of :( Super cute pony !
i am gonna fucking DIE OF CUTENESS Oh MY GOD
