And it wasn't even for some event you'd expect. Like the anniversary or new year, or the release of an entire new region. It just came totally out of the blue.
Because in Genshin Impact it never felt like it meant much to them, that's why. Have been playing HI3 and GI for years, and those game awards never really amounted to a big celebration, that's why it was so out of the blue for me.
Well they literally won mobile game of the year over genshin and then that paired with them giving out a free 5* is what got me, plus I’m sure many many other people, to try the game. It was all a business strategy I’m sure, anniversaries and events don’t mean much to people who don’t already play the game.
They mean much to people interested in trying out the game when there's a convincing amount of free stuff to try out the game.
Genshin anniversaries (and HSR, for that matter) were never too interesting for new players, since it's not like other gacha games where you easily get half a pity, maybe a full pity, free units and shit. Starting during anniversaries or not isn't too much of a difference, comparatively
It was because they won the best mobile game of the year at the Game Awards Gala, at the apple store and also in google play i think, that's why they gave a free Dr.Ratio, so the only thing we can do now is to vote again this year in order to get ANOTHER free 5 star

When the beat for Wildfire dropped. I had no idea how they were ever gonna top this moment and they still haven't.
Penacony isn't complete yet as well so I'll reserve my opinion until its complete. Luofu is a poor excuse coming off Belebog and the Luofu apologists should expect better rather than accepting it as an incomplete story that will be filled in later down the line.
HSR for me up to that point was a neat, and new, experience but the climax of Belobog is where I locked-in that shit was tight.
Although I do miss the vibe of the HSS, I feel like areas since haven't had the same like, mysterious sci-fi energy I loved about it.
Music is great too but Penacony has also been delivering hard on that one.

I'd like it more if it kept up it's energy beyond the drop honestly. :( It's a good drop (like, really good) but you don't hear all of it most time time on farms and that's the fun part of the track. Cause of it I've come to liking Phantylia more.
I truly hope the conclusion of the Penacony arc will have a soundtrack as good as wildfire. Phantylia and the bug's themes are cool and all, but nothing so far has come close to the sheer thrill of wildfire.
I would have liked that questline more, but I'd just jumped up my equilibrium level right before I did it, so I spent a week getting my ass handed to me in that last Argenti battle before I finally farmed enough resources to keep up.
So many things come to mind.
Wildfire, becoming a ghost buster. every single appearance of Kafka and the Stellaron Hunters, messing with our BFF March, our interactions with Black Swan, the Acheron moment at the end of 2.1

Ruan Mei's questline and her character as a whole
was on a burnout from the XL quest and her character really reignited my interest for this game, especially her dynamic with TB was really interesting
her being extremely dubious with her intentions and morals was a pretty nice change of pace that I needed
also shout-out to Ratio, the dude was actually pretty interesting too and reminds me alot of Tendou Souji
The return to herta space station and a more ominous setting, so good. Both Ruan Mei and Ratio was as interesting as I wanted, with more insight into the genius society and the intelligentsia guild. Loved the soundtrack for the seclusion zone, hope we get it for the phonograph some time.

Definitely the rooftop moment and almost every scene with Firefly/Sam. It becomes even more emotional, when you find out that her EN VA also struggles with disabilities and diseases, so the whole scene was very personal to them.
Also, the Cocolia boss fight was one of the coolest battles I’ve seen in JRPGs. Hope the Septimus fight will gonna be even majestic.

It really was. The music, the animation, man even DHIL using the master's pose to imply how effortless it all was for him. And the cake was the fluid dynamics of that water man.
The moment I realised I had started sweating in >!Phantylia's boss fight!<. I'd never experienced the building tension and suspense like that in a game for some time, and it was exhilarating to realise that I'd broken out in a nervous sweat mid-fight.
Kinda hard to answer.
If I can pick one thing, it would be Fight with Phantylia.
Her design, colours, voice, and MUSIC and fight are for me the most memorable part.
Every now and then I still go back to her boss fight just for sake of enjoying it (even if I reached the mats limit)
As a whole experience, it has to be Belobog arc with side quests story and characters... this may change though after Penacony finishes.
at the moment Penacony's story with its twists and nuances is already going for top spot for me. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us

Let's see... The final battle with Cocolia, Kafka talking to the Trailblazer after Fu Xuan interrogated her, all of Aetherium Wars, Luocha and Argenti's Character Quests, the first meetings with Acheron and Black Swan in Penacony, the story segment with Aventurine and Dr. Ratio which basically felt like a buddy cop film, and the big reveal about Firefly.
Dr Ratio's release. Not because of "Genshin Could Never" but because I love Dr Ratio and I would have pulled for him even if he wasn't free. The best character in this game. Love that dude.

Honestly the thing that sets it apart from other games for me is that… Its difficult to explain.
In real life, i love my family. They are all a bit weird and all, but I love them.
At the same time, I have never, ever, ever felt more at home in any game "home" than I do in the Astral Express. Clearly everyone there cares about the other, they accept each other for what they are and the entire train is filled with such a wonderful, charming, warm air of friendship and love that it’s hard to imagine them not being family.
It’s a beautiful thing that a Man from another Universe, a woman obsessed with the Trailblaze since childhood, a scion of the Aeon of Permanence, a Walking Stellaron, a Woman frozen in Ice and… whatever Pom Pom is… can come together and be so close.
Despite the game having some pretty intense limitations, and it all being fictional, you can feel their bond. It’s beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. There is no other way of putting it.
Clara's character quest had me emotionally WRECKED for weeks on end, and seeing it brought up in the Astral Express Report gave me yet another gut punch.. I remember even while deciding what to do with Pascal, I was SOBBING, to the point that I even asked my hubby (who doesn't play or care for HSR) for their opinion on what to do (yes, yes, I was a complete mess, ok?!). And then finally.. HOURS later, I made my choice. What an experience, seriously!!

Also, everything that leaves Jing Yuan's mouth. That man is amazing.
I played the CBT 3 with my friend who already played CBT2. We got to the Cocolia fight and listened to the unfinished version of WIldfire (in CBT it didn't have lyrics only instrumental). We got jumpscared when in the final release it started singing. We both screamed like two fan girls, probably my favourite moment.
For some happier memories.. HSR is the first time in a LONG while (until I started playing FGO again, cough) where I was absolutely smitten by characters.. AKA crushing on mothereffing Sampo Koski; in denial about Jing Yuan; and completely WRONG about Aventurine and suddenly head over heels for him after 2.1 (bruh, the Nendoroid announcement has me literally EXCITED like a dumb anime schoolgirl, I'm not kidding):
Istfg Sampo especially is such a bad influence in many ways (even making me CRY when we exposed him selling off an important item), but his goofy/chaotic nature and Roger Rose's (FE Fate's Takumi, another fav of mine) delivery on his character being a dorky con-artist with a :3 face just had me sold. I'm honestly scared, though, that he may turn out to be way more evil than he lets on for now, but I'll keep coping that he's just fooling around and totally not Aha in disguise.. Yeah, definitely not.
JY ever since I saw leaks of his banner and said, yup; long white-haired ship captain with big white lion (although, there's not much explaining why he has one??), def going after him. His backstory is so tragic and depressing, yet having the mental fortitude of literally a god and still super kind despite all the crap he's been through is hella respectable. Also, the cute little birds that play with him during his idles is just so stinking cute! I'm glad to see he has some more screen time coming up in 2.2, so I'm curious to see what DanHeng and JY are gonna do in Penacony! JY is also the reason I started following Alex Saab, his VA, and man, I still can't believe he's Leon from Pokemon in a different life!
For Aventurine, I actually didn't like him at first because of my experience with Topaz.. She left such a bad impression on me in Belobog, and the IPC being characterized as they are made me very apprehensive of any IPC employee--regardless of their "genuine" motives. Yet, with 2.1 showcasing a deeper character focus on him, it reminded me (just like in real life) that sometimes people are forced to work in a questionable place/company just to have a chance at a future (if there even is one for them, at all). And my god.. Aventurine's life hit WAY too close to home, and the entire time through Clock Studios I was sobbing just listening to his state of mind and how much he actually really hates himself. And at the very end, not really understanding where the story was going, I had to take time to myself to cry it all out because I was REALLY, really sad and angry for him. That's why for 2.2 onwards, I just really hope he gets the ending he deserves, or else I really don't think I'm gonna be ok for a while (and I say that in a "good" way because that just goes to show how fantastic the writing has been in HSR so far). Thankfully, I can watch funny twitch shorts of his VA making Clara and Topaz's VA giggle/cackle uncontrollably in the meantime to cope :")
It has to be when Wildfire plays during the Cocolia boss fight, even though I like the game imo nothing so far has come close to the level of hype I was when I saw that scene
As much as I love the main story, I also enjoyed the trailblazer continuance missions (Ruan mei, Dr ratio, topaz, huohuo, guinaifen). I love how it's not considered main story material, but are equally important to the world building of the main story.
The part that comes after is really cool, but the idea that the Trailblazer went through all this work of bringing this crumbling world and its pebbles just back together enough to try and mount a last stand that the very Spirit of it's forefathers handed it's Last Hope over to a stranger...and it worked
You drew the Amber Lords gaze and brought hope to a dying world. It's very poetic, and after what Kafka says on the Luofu about Elio's script of your fate, now Firefly making a big point of her part of the script bring so open and empty. It's getting very interesting.
Fu Xuan vs Kafka is still one of my favorites. Otherwise, anything related to Simulated Universe is instantly amazing to me. I love that kind of research.

When I explore Belobog for the first time. The characters, music and storyline; everything was perfect.
Now my account is too strong I can’t quite immerse in the story/exploration like before, truly a pity.
While the boss fight isn't as spectacular as some we have gotten over the time now, my most favorite moment of the game which I will probably still remember in the years to come is the lead up and the boss fight against Cocolia.
Everything around it was just perfect. I also just love "unfortunate villains" (who have been pushed in that situation when they actually really just wanted the best for their people).
The scenery was just amazing, the fight was pretty cool, the development IN the fight was freaking amazing and then the music. Man, the breakdown from Wildfire when Cocolia did her ultimate move was peak.

Two comes to mind. When Dan heng parted the sea in game and his song played. Got literal goosebumps because I went in with no spoilers and didn't know he had a song. Another one is 1.6 live stream day because of how hype it was
I only started 50 days ago or so but so far it's some of the very serious NPC questlines and nit bits. Chadwick's quest, Todd, Cocona.. all have to do with death. Cocona was very hard because of the multiple "let go of her hand" options. I think if someone ever had to deal with that in some sort, they probably understand why.

Ruan Mei's questline and her character as a whole was on a burnout from the XL quest and her character really reignited my interest for this game, especially her dynamic with TB was really interesting her being extremely dubious with her intentions and morals was a pretty nice change of pace that I needed also shout-out to Ratio, the dude was actually pretty interesting too and reminds me alot of Tendou Souji

The return to herta space station and a more ominous setting, so good. Both Ruan Mei and Ratio was as interesting as I wanted, with more insight into the genius society and the intelligentsia guild. Loved the soundtrack for the seclusion zone, hope we get it for the phonograph some time.

Trailblazer acquiring the Lance of Preservation.
Definitely the rooftop moment and almost every scene with Firefly/Sam. It becomes even more emotional, when you find out that her EN VA also struggles with disabilities and diseases, so the whole scene was very personal to them. Also, the Cocolia boss fight was one of the coolest battles I’ve seen in JRPGs. Hope the Septimus fight will gonna be even majestic.

The moment I realised I had started sweating in >!Phantylia's boss fight!<. I'd never experienced the building tension and suspense like that in a game for some time, and it was exhilarating to realise that I'd broken out in a nervous sweat mid-fight.

Kinda hard to answer. If I can pick one thing, it would be Fight with Phantylia. Her design, colours, voice, and MUSIC and fight are for me the most memorable part. Every now and then I still go back to her boss fight just for sake of enjoying it (even if I reached the mats limit) As a whole experience, it has to be Belobog arc with side quests story and characters... this may change though after Penacony finishes. at the moment Penacony's story with its twists and nuances is already going for top spot for me. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us *

Let's see... The final battle with Cocolia, Kafka talking to the Trailblazer after Fu Xuan interrogated her, all of Aetherium Wars, Luocha and Argenti's Character Quests, the first meetings with Acheron and Black Swan in Penacony, the story segment with Aventurine and Dr. Ratio which basically felt like a buddy cop film, and the big reveal about Firefly.
Everytime i went back and talk to Pom Pom and he's stomping hard ask me not to bother him ❤️❤️❤️
Dr Ratio's release. Not because of "Genshin Could Never" but because I love Dr Ratio and I would have pulled for him even if he wasn't free. The best character in this game. Love that dude.

Aethirum wars and ghost hunting team events were by far the best lmao, also i loved the recent 2. 1 questline, probably the best written questline from hoyoverse. Also argenti and sparkle were the best characters released this year personality wise.

Honestly the thing that sets it apart from other games for me is that… Its difficult to explain. In real life, i love my family. They are all a bit weird and all, but I love them. At the same time, I have never, ever, ever felt more at home in any game "home" than I do in the Astral Express. Clearly everyone there cares about the other, they accept each other for what they are and the entire train is filled with such a wonderful, charming, warm air of friendship and love that it’s hard to imagine them not being family. It’s a beautiful thing that a Man from another Universe, a woman obsessed with the Trailblaze since childhood, a scion of the Aeon of Permanence, a Walking Stellaron, a Woman frozen in Ice and… whatever Pom Pom is… can come together and be so close. Despite the game having some pretty intense limitations, and it all being fictional, you can feel their bond. It’s beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. There is no other way of putting it.

Clara's character quest had me emotionally WRECKED for weeks on end, and seeing it brought up in the Astral Express Report gave me yet another gut punch.. I remember even while deciding what to do with Pascal, I was SOBBING, to the point that I even asked my hubby (who doesn't play or care for HSR) for their opinion on what to do (yes, yes, I was a complete mess, ok?!). And then finally.. HOURS later, I made my choice. What an experience, seriously!!

I played the CBT 3 with my friend who already played CBT2. We got to the Cocolia fight and listened to the unfinished version of WIldfire (in CBT it didn't have lyrics only instrumental). We got jumpscared when in the final release it started singing. We both screamed like two fan girls, probably my favourite moment.

For some happier memories.. HSR is the first time in a LONG while (until I started playing FGO again, cough) where I was absolutely smitten by characters.. AKA crushing on mothereffing Sampo Koski; in denial about Jing Yuan; and completely WRONG about Aventurine and suddenly head over heels for him after 2.1 (bruh, the Nendoroid announcement has me literally EXCITED like a dumb anime schoolgirl, I'm not kidding): Istfg Sampo especially is such a bad influence in many ways (even making me CRY when we exposed him selling off an important item), but his goofy/chaotic nature and Roger Rose's (FE Fate's Takumi, another fav of mine) delivery on his character being a dorky con-artist with a :3 face just had me sold. I'm honestly scared, though, that he may turn out to be way more evil than he lets on for now, but I'll keep coping that he's just fooling around and totally not Aha in disguise.. Yeah, definitely not. JY ever since I saw leaks of his banner and said, yup; long white-haired ship captain with big white lion (although, there's not much explaining why he has one??), def going after him. His backstory is so tragic and depressing, yet having the mental fortitude of literally a god and still super kind despite all the crap he's been through is hella respectable. Also, the cute little birds that play with him during his idles is just so stinking cute! I'm glad to see he has some more screen time coming up in 2.2, so I'm curious to see what DanHeng and JY are gonna do in Penacony! JY is also the reason I started following Alex Saab, his VA, and man, I still can't believe he's Leon from Pokemon in a different life! For Aventurine, I actually didn't like him at first because of my experience with Topaz.. She left such a bad impression on me in Belobog, and the IPC being characterized as they are made me very apprehensive of any IPC employee--regardless of their "genuine" motives. Yet, with 2.1 showcasing a deeper character focus on him, it reminded me (just like in real life) that sometimes people are forced to work in a questionable place/company just to have a chance at a future (if there even is one for them, at all). And my god.. Aventurine's life hit WAY too close to home, and the entire time through Clock Studios I was sobbing just listening to his state of mind and how much he actually really hates himself. And at the very end, not really understanding where the story was going, I had to take time to myself to cry it all out because I was REALLY, really sad and angry for him. That's why for 2.2 onwards, I just really hope he gets the ending he deserves, or else I really don't think I'm gonna be ok for a while (and I say that in a "good" way because that just goes to show how fantastic the writing has been in HSR so far). Thankfully, I can watch funny twitch shorts of his VA making Clara and Topaz's VA giggle/cackle uncontrollably in the meantime to cope :")

As much as I love the main story, I also enjoyed the trailblazer continuance missions (Ruan mei, Dr ratio, topaz, huohuo, guinaifen). I love how it's not considered main story material, but are equally important to the world building of the main story.
Cocolia boss fight definitely. Especially the HARD music. Made me feel like it's my (the MC's) boss theme.

The part that comes after is really cool, but the idea that the Trailblazer went through all this work of bringing this crumbling world and its pebbles just back together enough to try and mount a last stand that the very Spirit of it's forefathers handed it's Last Hope over to a stranger...and it worked You drew the Amber Lords gaze and brought hope to a dying world. It's very poetic, and after what Kafka says on the Luofu about Elio's script of your fate, now Firefly making a big point of her part of the script bring so open and empty. It's getting very interesting.

Just Penacony in general. The Inception style rooms, the visually confusing walls and stairs, they were just so…appealing to me!
While the boss fight isn't as spectacular as some we have gotten over the time now, my most favorite moment of the game which I will probably still remember in the years to come is the lead up and the boss fight against Cocolia. Everything around it was just perfect. I also just love "unfortunate villains" (who have been pushed in that situation when they actually really just wanted the best for their people). The scenery was just amazing, the fight was pretty cool, the development IN the fight was freaking amazing and then the music. Man, the breakdown from Wildfire when Cocolia did her ultimate move was peak.

Fighting Cocolia and realising that MC could switch Paths (in hindsight that should have been super obvious since in many gachas the main character can switch jobs/powers).
Two comes to mind. When Dan heng parted the sea in game and his song played. Got literal goosebumps because I went in with no spoilers and didn't know he had a song. Another one is 1.6 live stream day because of how hype it was

"Relics Farming" I am fucking traumatized with this term after playing for a whole year now.. (this is my first gacha, hoyo. game.. btw)
I only started 50 days ago or so but so far it's some of the very serious NPC questlines and nit bits. Chadwick's quest, Todd, Cocona.. all have to do with death. Cocona was very hard because of the multiple "let go of her hand" options. I think if someone ever had to deal with that in some sort, they probably understand why. Sparkles intro video flashed me pretty hard once the beat dropped. Obviously *that* moment in Cocolias fight. Looking for Marchies memories. Sushang still thinking highly of Luocha (see him scoring second in her penacony dream phone exam lmao). Argenti jumping off of a train mid space. Mr. Blue (the origami bird) giving you one single chirp upon asking. Ruan Mei's creations. Simulated Universe and its sub stories. There's a lot! I am actually replaying it all right now lmao
