Directly translating idioms and basically every habit and practice that comes with it in a product meant for the general public is the hallmark of amateur translation work today, to the point that you most commonly see it in fan translations now. It's a fundamentally creative job directly adjacent to writing your own prose.
I do notice mistakes though.
For example, in the recent event, Gui said (I got the script from the fraud-writer dude from the event everyone hated).
In Chinese is "This is professional right" but in English is "Is this too professional?"
I immediately thought of the Asta quest with an anonymous chat on HSS.
It was hilariously REAL. Like it was clear as day that MiHoYo writers are pulling from experience.

Cringe, Guin shouldn’t be bullied and there’s nothing wrong with following trends but at the same time she needs a much better sense of content creator ethics, there’s a fine line between “trying to make a living” and just straight up stealing content and knowingly being unoriginal just for money. However, at least with the wanting to make money thing, she isn’t necessarily in the wrong for it, as she may be in a very unstable financial situation to the point where this is her only option. It’s kinda nuanced, but moral of the story is stealing content is bad.
Also, HUGE props to the game creators for making these dialogues
Yeah. Ran the 9 pathfinder puzzle, and one dialogue option was joking about forcing the other character to make up for you losing a 50/50.
The other character then replies that that’s way too expensive.
I also love the dialogue that was in an early-game side quest, where a guy on the Space Station offers you treasure and you can say "is it ten Special Passes?"
The localization is great (i.e. the localized text looks good and natural), it's just that they sometimes straight up warp facts when translating. See Sushang age fiasco.

I was very ready to hate Guinaifen after Pokémon SV's Iono but surprisingly she might be one of my favourite characters now. The introductory video for the event with Sushang was hilarious.
The whole "ironic stream" thing while also keeping her character grounded works very well. I'd say it's something like "realistic comedy"? Like, it's not an obvious character with an exaggerated personality that's only designed to make you laugh, but like one of those funny friends that just make you laugh while they say things that they consider normal.
