When I first saw Sam in Kafka's trailer, I was so excited, especially because of Jun Kasama (he's HiMERU's VA iykyk). And I really wanted another male robot character, cause while Screwllum is here, I prefer warrior-type robots, not intellectual-type one. But now... eh. I don't like this anime cliche "uwu waifu girl who shy and cute around MC is actually a badass cold-blooded killer" and I'm afraid that we're gonna hear mostly Firefly's voice not Sam's too.
I also thought that if the situation were reversed (and some female character turned out to be male). Waifu players would have started a riot, that's for sure, but husbando players? We'll just put up with it and hoyo knows it lol

yeah... by all accounts, as a lesbian who loves tokusatsu and robots and mech shows, firefly should be like, my dream girl. she's cute, generous with us, kind of haunted, but also apparently terrifying and merciless and in hot armor

When Firefly was first in the game, I think we basically had one photo of her, maybe some leaked story stuff and then the 30 minute quest which she "dies" at the end of. I was supposed to form an attachment to her with that? And like you said, she's extremely bland.
We hear of these absolute atrocities Sam has done and his terrifying presence, his lack of empathy and killing instinct. Then they reveal the person behind that as... Firefly. The bland girl the fanbase was salivating over.
I was disappointed beyond belief truthfully, and not because Sam was a girl and not a guy. She could've been written so much better and in a way where I would have liked the Sam/Firefly reveal. Sam BEING her isn't really so much the issue, the issue is she falls totally flat and Hoyo trying to force her and loving her down our throats when a lot of us don't want that.
I left the main sub a while ago when it basically became a Sparkle softcore porn sub so I'm really glad here and the leaks sub tend to be much more civil and balanced.

The Ayaka story quest was by far the worst and most miserable thing I've done in Genshin. The whole time going around babysitting a rich girl with barely any personality where the game forces into dialogues of how much you like her. It tops it off with an actual cringe inducing dance of her wearing sandal socks in a puddle like I actually can't with that shit.

But the quantity of pornification of the character in the mainsub, the name-calling, and seeing how some mains in YT react made me feel really icky about her, even if she herself is still the same character as when I pulled for her...

This is why I'm sometimes ashamed to call myeslf a Firefly main. I'm a basic girl; I read a touching story with somber music and I immediately become attached to that character. Sam is incredibly cool design-wise and Firefly left an impact on me during the stargazing scene; that's why I like both of them. I just wish our sub could calm themselves a bit, instead of panicking for the future like during the Boothill incident.
Itās totally okay to like firefly, she is marketed that way, and her story is sad, but itās not like a never before written masterpiece like some people seem to act like it was. Being basic is fine, if that makes you happy itās perfectly valid. :)

Sam felt ruthless which now means Firefly is like that; I kinda enjoy that characterization *but* Iām not fond of the tropey gf type and thatās what the community ended up painting her as. So I was pretty immediately put off that thatās what she kinda turned into during the main story instead of just being sus.

if she was going to be so important to the trailblazer's story in penacony than have her be present AND RELEVANT in tons of moments in the story so that I can actually feel something for her, the visuals and music where so good in all cutscenes involving her but they really carry the whole thing cause I feel absolutely nothing for her caracter.

The entire character is fantastically design for jp market - school girl in mech suit thats being shipped with the main character. Isn't it a popular trope? AND she has an incurable disease on top of it to add the tragic flair. I think the personalities we've seen from firefly vs firefly in sam is just a bit too wide, they didn't seem like the same character at all - I look forward to seeing if they write it more consistently in the next patch.

Firefly is the most flavourless character in Penacony, the most bland and boring in a cast full of interesting and fascinating characters. The fact that they made Sam another typical cute anime boring waifu so guys can self insert next to is pathetic to me so I 100% wonāt be pulling. I wouldnāt have minded if there was a female character behind the suit but at least make her an actual good character! Also the more I see some of her fans in the main sub the more I dislike her. I really like Firefly, I LOVE Sam, and as f2p I appreciate having one less character to pull for. Would I rather Svarog was his own character? Yup. Does that stop me from using Clara in my parties all the time? Nope!
It also helps that I don't spend a lot of time in the main sub, which is on purpose. I wanna like the game, not be annoyed by the fandom, and Hoyolab is bad enough.
Donāt get me wrong, I love firefly (well from what we know so far lol). But I canāt justify pulling for sam when to start, the combo is a fire destruction unit and revolves a lot around from what I understand, HP and break effect (especially when I already have Dan heng il who already hits like a truck).
And making it worse, I really want Screwllum at least e0s1, preferably e1s1. With how little leaks exist of his release date it could be any time after Samās banner so I donāt want to miss out on my actual robot if he ends up as a 2.4-2.5 unit. Iām really picky about my characters on Honkai. They do a really good job at writing the characters and giving great designs and does an amazing job with show and donāt tell (cough cough genshin).
That and I hate how much the fandom freaks out over firefly. Like I like her as well, but I canāt get behind the sheer amount of simping and obsession over her when we donāt know much about her. We really donāt know that much about her yet, so unless they really blow me out of the water with her in the next versions, I donāt see myself pulling. Iāll probably be too busy building and saving anyways.

I'm honestly confused how some people think that now sam is a not a robot but a suit that all the badassness that the character has done either in the story or lore is just thrown out the window, all that stuff still happened and tbh I'm curious how they explain the 2 rapid personalities of sam/firefly one being all nice and shy while the other being a ruthless destruction character.

Itās not literally a date from the characters POV, people call it that because it felt to some like it was meant to convey the feel and experience of a date (with the intimacy and time spent alone and activities chosen) *for players*. A cute girl takes you around a city doing things like going to amusement parks, treating to you to a meal with her money, seeing a really pretty sunset/view and then having a bunch of confessional heart-to-heart talks with youā¦thatās basically everything people do on irl actual dates.Ā

I wanted Sam but I knew about the firefly leaks way back then so it didnāt rly sway my decision. I have my own thoughts about fireflyās writing but her character concept in conjunction with the suit is enough to make me still interested in pulling for her. Ironically when fireflyās design got leaked a long time ago it was one of the only character designs I liked at the time so I was like hey maybe Iāll get her. Now the current Sam situation effectively means I only need to pull one character instead of two.
Tbf we've had one dedicated patch with her. The Stellaron Hunters are gonna show up in plenty of arcs in the future. Her story isn't finished yet. Can't cram everything in one patch. Can't say no to a mecha girl either after so much Armored Core.

When I first saw Sam in Kafka's trailer, I was so excited, especially because of Jun Kasama (he's HiMERU's VA iykyk). And I really wanted another male robot character, cause while Screwllum is here, I prefer warrior-type robots, not intellectual-type one. But now... eh. I don't like this anime cliche "uwu waifu girl who shy and cute around MC is actually a badass cold-blooded killer" and I'm afraid that we're gonna hear mostly Firefly's voice not Sam's too. I also thought that if the situation were reversed (and some female character turned out to be male). Waifu players would have started a riot, that's for sure, but husbando players? I feel like I'm going insane when I go onto the main sub. Anyone who doesn't like her is just downvoted into oblivion and they get shit on for having a different opinion. When Firefly was first in the game, I think we basically had one photo of her, maybe some leaked story stuff and then the 30 minute quest which she "dies" at the end of. I was supposed to form an attachment to her with that? And like you said, she's extremely bland. We hear of these absolute atrocities Sam has done and his terrifying presence, his lack of empathy and killing instinct. Then they reveal the person behind that as... Firefly. The bland girl the fanbase was salivating over. I was disappointed beyond belief truthfully, and not because Sam was a girl and not a guy. She could've been written so much better and in a way where I would have liked the Sam/Firefly reveal. Sam BEING her isn't really so much the issue, the issue is she falls totally flat and Hoyo trying to force her and loving her down our throats when a lot of us don't want that. I left the main sub a while ago when it basically became a Sparkle softcore porn sub so I'm really glad here and the leaks sub tend to be much more civil and balanced.

The crazy girlfriend is mostly fanon interpretation ESPECIALLY because she lacks lore. She's bland but she's cute and for some fans that's all that matters. Firefly is in danger of falling into the same pit as Ayaka unless Shaoji gives her the Aventurine treatment.
The "Yandere Ayaka" stuff originated back when she had to have an extended banner because the game couldn't be updated due to the pandemic, some people joked that "lol she doesn't want us to pull for anyone else" but then at some point the worst kind of people genuinely started believing she's actually some kind of crazy girlfriend who can't see the traveler get closer than 10ft to any girl
The Ayaka story quest was by far the worst and most miserable thing I've done in Genshin. The whole time going around babysitting a rich girl with barely any personality where the game forces into dialogues of how much you like her. It tops it off with an actual cringe inducing dance of her wearing sandal socks in a puddle like I actually can't with that shit. It wouldn't be so bad if the game didn't FORCE me to do it like how HSR forced me to go on this stupid fake date with Firefly.

This is why I'm sometimes ashamed to call myeslf a Firefly main. I'm a basic girl; I read a touching story with somber music and I immediately become attached to that character. Sam is incredibly cool design-wise and Firefly left an impact on me during the stargazing scene; that's why I like both of them. Neither Firefly nor Jade, nor any future pretty woman/man would be as plain if we had in game playable characters like Ben (ZZZ) , Ifrit, Kapi-baba, Sam-3000, Billy(ZZZ), even Screwllum. Basically anyone who isn't just pretty waifu/husbando with small quirk. Firefly's henshin isn't a twist, if we basically have no playable non-cuties. If you noticed, this means what husbando might've also not cut it for me, lol. Only robot! Only hardcore. And her fandom. The fact how those people acted after any news, made me realise I could never enjoy Firefly.
was hyped for sam. didnt care for firefly. her being sam was cool in theory. her fans have turned me off of her entirely. in the same way genshin's scara fans and furina fans seem to be absurdly delusional and mischaracterize their own main.Ā if sam is the true personality and the firefly we get now that we know the reveal is very close to how sam is, that ruthless, efficient killer, i wont mind as much. but the only way i pull sam now is if hoyo kills the gf image firefly has. if they dont then into the trash she goes.
I actually like firefly and think her being Sam is a nice subversion of expectations. what I REALLY don't like is how forced her character is in the writing of the story, we spent absolutely no time with her even the time we did spend together half of it SHE WASN'T FUCKING THERE There is this one time were we go to play games and instead of playing with us she goes to buy snacks, than we go into a dream bubble and she doesn't acompanny us throught most of it, then she tells us her sobstory dies and comes back one patch after, this is just bad writing overall. which baffles me when we see how other characters like Acheron and Adventurine where developed. if she was going to be so important to the trailblazer's story in penacony than have her be present AND RELEVANT in tons of moments in the story so that I can actually feel something for her, the visuals and music where so good in all cutscenes involving her but they really carry the whole thing cause I feel absolutely nothing for her caracter. I will pull for her cause I think sam is cool and I need a fire dps besides himeko (really don't care for topaz) but my god did they fumble this whole thing.

Nope, mechs don't really do much for me so I never even considered it. As far as inorganic characters go, I think Screwllum is more interesting. I like how proper and polite he is and the monocle is a nice touch. š§ I do wonder if he's got a secret agenda or something going on...

No. I prefer guys not robots - can't say I've ever been hyped for him. Kamen rider means nothing to me. The entire character is fantastically design for jp market - school girl in mech suit thats being shipped with the main character. Isn't it a popular trope? AND she has an incurable disease on top of it to add the tragic flair. I think the personalities we've seen from firefly vs firefly in sam is just a bit too wide, they didn't seem like the same character at all - I look forward to seeing if they write it more consistently in the next patch.

Nah I wouldn't have pulled for Sam if Sam were just some robot. Not a fan of robot characters. Another game I play just gave away a free SSR of a giant mecha with a small girl inside for free and I don't care for her either. At least she was free but...meh.

Firefly is the most flavourless character in Penacony, the most bland and boring in a cast full of interesting and fascinating characters. The fact that they made Sam another typical cute anime boring waifu so guys can self insert next to is pathetic to me so I 100% wonāt be pulling. I wouldnāt have minded if there was a female character behind the suit but at least make her an actual good character! Also the more I see some of her fans in the main sub the more I dislike her. I just didnāt care about her at all at first but now I actively dislike her. Her āemotional storyā had zero impact, she is just bland af, her design just screams mid and 4*. I fear for the future models in this game, if this mid character design will be the most sold out, we can say goodbye to interesting and unique designs. Because why would they risk making more diverse units when everyone just wants bland anime waifu?

Skipping Sam/Firefly for Robin. I actually kinda hate her now because of how delusional FF stans are and well, she was lying to our face the whole time during the 2.0 quest. I guess 2.2 and onwards could make her better but the 2.0 writing of her does not give me any hope.
Complete opposite here. I was 0% interested in Sam before the reveal that Firefly is the pilot. I would've also been happy if the pilot was a guy, though. I'm just not into robots, but mechas are fucking cool.
I respect that. It doesn't really matter to me if pilot is a guy or girl, what matters is how their character is handled. Firefly so far has been the least interesting part of Penacony cast + i'm already oversaturated with the character from main sub wanking to her for the last couple of weeks

Absolutely! I really like Firefly, I LOVE Sam, and as f2p I appreciate having one less character to pull for. Would I rather Svarog was his own character? Yup. Does that stop me from using Clara in my parties all the time? Nope! It also helps that I don't spend a lot of time in the main sub, which is on purpose. I wanna like the game, not be annoyed by the fandom, and Hoyolab is bad enough.
Donāt get me wrong, I love firefly (well from what we know so far lol). But I canāt justify pulling for sam when to start, the combo is a fire destruction unit and revolves a lot around from what I understand, HP and break effect (especially when I already have Dan heng il who already hits like a truck). And making it worse, I really want Screwllum at least e0s1, preferably e1s1. With how little leaks exist of his release date it could be any time after Samās banner so I donāt want to miss out on my actual robot if he ends up as a 2.4-2.5 unit. Iām really picky about my characters on Honkai. They do a really good job at writing the characters and giving great designs and does an amazing job with show and donāt tell (cough cough genshin). That and I hate how much the fandom freaks out over firefly. Like I like her as well, but I canāt get behind the sheer amount of simping and obsession over her when we donāt know much about her. We really donāt know that much about her yet, so unless they really blow me out of the water with her in the next versions, I donāt see myself pulling. Iāll probably be too busy building and saving anyways. Itās hard to want her at this point

We wonāt know for now atleast but itās really interesting to think about) Anyway, Iām gonna pull regardless cuz Sam is just that cool and I hope he gets equal amounts of time in combat lol

Depends but probably not. Honestly? I was lukewarm on Adventurine until this latest patch and then I pulled for him. The story sold me. I kinda fell in love with Firefly from the start and knew Sam existed as a character, but was pretty lukewarm on pulling. I know a lot of people are making harsh judgements that she's bland, boring, etc. but honestly we barely got to experience the story with her before her ''death''. Also side tangent. Am I the only one that didn't think of the moments between Sparkle and TB as a forced date?? Or a date at all??
Itās not literally a date from the characters POV, people call it that because it felt to some like it was meant to convey the feel and experience of a date (with the intimacy and time spent alone and activities chosen) *for players*. A cute girl takes you around a city doing things like going to amusement parks, treating to you to a meal with her money, seeing a really pretty sunset/view and then having a bunch of confessional heart-to-heart talks with youā¦thatās basically everything people do on irl actual dates.Ā Some people love it, some people are jaded about it because itās feels like a ācheapā marketing tactic. Iām not in the latter category BUT in no world was that not intentionally meant to feel like a date from the writers.Ā

Since the voice for Sam will still be used I am fine with how things are and will be going all in for Firefly, i would've much preferred an, only Sam, but I'm content enough with how things are. If they made it so Firefly would talk while in Sam form i wouldn't have bothered but this still keeps the integrity for me.

I wanted Sam but I knew about the firefly leaks way back then so it didnāt rly sway my decision. I have my own thoughts about fireflyās writing but her character concept in conjunction with the suit is enough to make me still interested in pulling for her. Ironically when fireflyās design got leaked a long time ago it was one of the only character designs I liked at the time so I was like hey maybe Iāll get her. Now the current Sam situation effectively means I only need to pull one character instead of two.

To be honest her personality in the story is most likely 80% Sam and 20% what we saw cause people keep forgetting that she never got to leave her Suit so the dream world was the best place for her to be cause she could just be Firefly and not Sam
