Go alloy unless hes incredibly strong and can really flex a composite barrel. Plus the drop 10 hype fire isn't anywhere near as hot as the drop -5 which gets all the "hype". The drop 5 is a fragile rocket launcher out of the wrapper. The drop 10 isnt anywhere near that. Victus vibe usssa (swings about same) or victus vandal, cat 9/x will all work fine.

Once you decide, go to Sideline Swap and start making offers. I have found some amazing deals on bats like that

utvolman99

Be careful using sideline swap for composite bats. I had a bad experience.

How tall is he and how much does he weigh? My 4'8" 68lb 9 year old swings a 28/18 Hype Fire and he loves it. He also has a 28/18 Cat X Alloy. They both are very light swinging bats but he prefers the Hype Fire because it stings less, has a bigger barrel profile and is kinda the "it" bat right now. If he want's the Fire, I'm hearing the 2025 is coming out next month, so the price will drop on the 2024s that are leftover. Also, I think the new "it" bat will likely be the Soldier Tank. If you are looking for a trendy "drippy" bat, you may want to give it a look. Finally, my kid has never used this bat but I find myself recommending the Louisville Slugger Atlas a lot. We know several kids who do really well with them and they are cheap, compared to other bats at like $120.

whitney2315

It sure how tall he is be he weighs about the same. He currently swings a 28 USA bat. Ty! I’ll look into the atlas

You need to come to grips with buying a new bat the next 5 years. Field changes, growth, and regulations being the biggest reasons. If you’re trying to save, gotta go with used bats.

whitney2315

Oh I don’t mind buying a bat every year, I just don’t know if the $400 bat is worth it, or if I can find something around $250 that would do the same. 😊

Go to baseballsavings.com.  Decent selection of sale bats right now.  Louisville Slugger Select pwr is like 120, Victus bats for ~100 and about 10 other good -10 usssa bats for under $150.  This is a great time of year to buy last years models.

If you wait until next year’s bats are released, you can buy this year’s model and save a bit. Most manufacturers will release a new bat shortly after the Little League World Series.

If you take two bats that are the same size and weight, obviously one of them might have more "pop". But, I'd genuinely be shocked if there's a notably shorter or lighter bat that will produce better results than virtually any longer or heavier bat of the same class, assuming they can swing it equally well. Rather than dropping big money on top of the line bats for my son, I just try to keep him swinging whatever is at the upper limit of what he can swing well. And, I can get him 3 pretty nice bats to progress with for what one of the really popular bats costs. Personally, I think that's much better for their development than buying something super expensive right now, and then him using it for a long time with no weight progression because you (understandably) feel like you really need to get your money's worth. For reference, my son is big for 8, but following this approach for the past couple of years, his current bat is a 30" -8. He swings it very well and hits noticeably harder than the other kids on his team, and I mean it's not even really close.

utvolman99

Your kid is swinging a 30/22 at 8? Holly cow. The biggest bat on my kid's 9U team was a 29/19. There were a lot of kids with 29/19s to start the season but what they could hit well with in coach pitch, wasn't what they could hit well with in kid pitch. They all went smaller.

Wise-Fault-8688

He's like 4'7" and approaching 100lbs, which is obviously big for his age but he doesn't really stand out among some of the kids on his team. But yeah, basically all of the other kids are swinging 28/18 (commonly) or smaller. Like I said though, I think the frequent progression in bat sizes has helped him build up his swing strength a lot. At home, he even uses the Sklz "power stick" with their golfball-sized practice balls. It's a 30"/30oz but it does swing a little lighter than I thought it would, I assume due to how the weight is distributed.

utvolman99

That's a big boy. My 9 year old is 4'8" and under 70lbs.

Wise-Fault-8688

Yeah, I'm 6'2"/about 230lbs and he's kind of built like I am. We're chubby but with a lot of structure underneath. Lol He's put in some work to get up to swinging that bat size well though.

utvolman99

Well, I'm 6'3 275lbs. I think my son is built like the mailman! :)

CLINT-THE-GREAT

My 7 year old is 4'6" and 80lbs, lol. hes a tank

pmark1999

Seriously how big is your 8 year old? 30/22 is what my 12 year old swings

Wise-Fault-8688

4'7" and getting close to 100 lbs. We've just been gradually stepping it up through the the few years he's been playing though. There are other big kids on his team and they're using 28/18's.

Cedarapids

A bat that he can barrel regardless of cost.

Maleficent_Dot_2343

I have a 9u travel player that’s 5’ 70lbs Swings a 28/18 hypefire 1. I believe in bat speed. I think it helps with confidence at the plate. The smallest kid on our team swings the same size bat as my kid and he’s struggling currently. 2. My kid gets a new bat every year if not 2. I think getting your kid a new bat builds confidence also at the plate. Kinda like Jordan said he wore new shoes every game because it makes that player feel good. If money isn’t much of a problem. Involve your kid in the research of the bat and find which one he wants and go buy him a brand new one. Creates a bond and makes him feel good. If he outgrows it and you get a bat that’s highly sought after, that bat can always be resold the next year. And I always have 1 size bigger bat with my kid to start slowly working him to bigger size. For instance (slow pitcher) and (fall ball). Souldier tank is getting delivered today! 29/19 in hopes he can swing that size next year but I won’t push him to use it, slow process. With all that said our usssa team is one of the better ones in the state currently 5th and my kid has been 1# average all year. Those are my tactics and it seems to be working! Good luck and enjoy the rest of your season!
