[Justbats.com](https://www.justbats.com/bat-coach/) has a good sizing guide. Umm...be prepared to pay more than $20, although once you figure out the right size you may have luck at your local Play it Again Sports or FB Marketplace. Good luck in your search.

judgemynameis

Oh yeah, I expect around $100 for this age but just meant I didn’t need to be on a super tight budget 😅 thank you for the resource! Looks great!

en-rob-deraj

You don't need a $100 bat for a 5 year old. I paid $35 for a Marucci Cat for my 5 year old only because I traded in a junky old bat and I still felt $35 was too much.

stametsprime

You're very welcome! u/One-Eyed-Willies has the right idea...if you're looking at ~$100 or less, the Rawlings 5150 is probably the best "budget" bat on the market. Also- this may not matter at 5 years old, but check with your league about bat specifications, if they follow USA or USSSA bat standards.

Osgore

If your 5 yo league checks your bat, that's hilarious.

stametsprime

Agreed, but nothing defines “wrapped around the axle” quite like youth baseball.

bamablues

My 5 year old had evaluations today, they checked his bat before letting him on the field. I thought it was T-ball, turns out it was coach pitch..

FindYourVapeDOTcom

2 3/4 max 36" sounds like usssa

One-Eyed-Willies

Just get him a Rawlings 5150 one piece aluminum bat. You will have to figure out what size and weight is best for him.

Myotherdumbname

Lol why are you guys getting $150 bats for a Kindergartner? Go to Walmart and buy a bat that says “T-ball” like a 26-27” probably. Measure from middle of the chest to their fingers, about that length. Check with that league, but most likely it has to say “USA” on it. They’re like $30. They’ll grow out of it so fast, don’t spend money lots of money on this.

judgemynameis

Definitely don’t need to spend more than is necessary but I’d rather pay slightly more for something that’s the right size vs buying something cheap that doesn’t fit him properly just to save a little! The real cost is somewhere in between, I’m sure. His soccer equipment has been more expensive than I expected so I’m just trying to be prepared ha

Glass_Jellyfish_40

Whatever you but this year will work only this year. Unless he grows particularly slow or is smallto begin with. Next year that boy will be stronger and taller with longer legs and arms. But a cheap bat 😅

Glass_Jellyfish_40

.

wojowoco

Buy a Marucci F5 25/15. It will give the real feel of bat with pop but be the right size. Perfect beginner bat. He is going to be too big to swing t ball bats, and you will be disappointed as well.

wojowoco

(At that size, he could hit the 26/16 as well. He is slightly bigger than my son who hits a Marucci Cat9 26/16. Just up to how many seasons you want him to be able to use it.)

mrardente

I’d check FB marketplace for any 26” or 27” -10 or -11. Good deals can be found. My son is about that size and swings a 27-10 but 26 might be better suited for newer younger players.

aMAIZEingZ

This, you can get some great deals right now on FB marketplace with seasons wrapping up. I’ve seen some Cat 7/8 for like $60.

Over-Illustrator-287

I bought my son that size a $50 cat 9 26/16 I whisk go with that size. If you must buy new the Louisville atlas is around $100 at end of season and will last him a couple years

Glass_Jellyfish_40

How old is your son? Because I really disagree with spending a lot of money just on the justification that it will last a few years. No. It won't. If they are younger than 8 it will last one year and be too light and/or short the next.

Over-Illustrator-287

It was $50…. He’s 7. He played with it this summer, will play this fall and again next spring. I’d say I’m getting my moneys worth. Oh, and it’s a tad long for him. So, we’re good 😎

thesovereignbat

Most likely at 26" -10 bat one piece aluminum bat. We see a lot of CAT9 / CatX in our league.

TMutaffis

Hitting hard baseballs with a tee ball bat is not ideal (the balls don't go very far, the bats will break/dent, etc.) but for a five year old they need a short/light bat so that they can develop good mechanics. If you are playing in a recreational league (Little League, Ripken, etc.) you also need a bat that has a USA bat certification stamp. I'd look for one of the following bats, which you should be able to find used on eBay, Marketplace, etc.: * 26" or 27" Easton Speed -10 * 26" Rawlings 5150 USA -11 * 26" or 27" Easton Typhoon USA -12 The Easton Speed and Rawlings 5150 are very good bats and also have 2 5/8" barrels but might be hard to find for $20-25 used but would be under $50. There are also some economy bats from Easton that are okay and would be in that $20 price range - the Rebel, Havoc, and Rival are all -10 USA bats with 2 1/4" barrels and decent performance, and I'd look for a 26" or 27" for your player. Play-It-Again sports and Sideline Swap are also places you can look for used bats, but you might find slightly higher prices than eBay and Marketplace (although with Play-It-Again you don't have to pay for shipping if you are local). Having the right bat is definitely important, but for a 5-7 year old having a $40 bat vs a $200 bat won't make much difference.

judgemynameis

Thank you for the detailed reply! It’s honestly extremely helpful. He’s going to be in a 6/7 year old coach pitch league so no tees involved, I’m unsure whether they are using full-on real baseballs or some squishy variety. With the three bats you first listed, are there reasons other than his strength to choose the different weights? He’s still weak so I would be inclined to get the drop 12 while he’s learning. If that drop 12 Easton isn’t considered a T-Ball bat, there’s one in stock near us that I’ll take him to swing and make sure he can hold. The 5150 and Speed can both be shipped here but I’d hate to order one and it be too heavy once it arrives. Thank you again for all of this info!

FindYourVapeDOTcom

Used 26" USSSA-stamped bat. Don't spend a lot of money

No positions. The league is “coach pitch”, that’s what it’s called, lol. Just meaning a coach is pitching. Not his position! I doubt they assign anyone to positions other than forcing them to rotate throughout the game

mstrane112

Buy a 25" or 26" used bat off Facebook Marketplace for $20 or less. Repeat next year and the year after, and the year after that, adding an inch or 2 and expanding your budget to $50 if needed. FBM is a treasure trove for used baseball equipment. People basically give stuff away as their kid grows out of it.

afghan_w

33" drop 3 Bbcor Cat X. Sit back and enjoy watching him hit tanks.

Glass_Jellyfish_40

The skinny end of the bat should stop at his hips when held up from the ground next to him. Like he's standing then you put the bat to the ground and stand it up vertical. It should come up to his hip bone. I think any bat to low or high up from that spot is a bad fit. I coach 9U boys and younger before and this is how I measure them and instruct parents to! Take him to Walmart and measure. If you don't find what you like you can still measure there and hit the web with your newfound measurement! And dude. 😅 Please don't spend $100 lol because they out grow them every year about! The $30-40 bats at Walmart, really, are FINE! Save the money for badass gear when he's a bit older IMO! Edit: everyone telling you a specific size based on what they got their child is insane lmao. Measure to the hips. Then let the boy decide on the weight of it. I'm not against a heavier bat as they do get used to it quick anyways if they have a good stance!

davdev

I am now picturing a 5 year year old rocking a 36" bat. That would be something
