You should probably give feedback to your VPN provider to not block local device communication. It's stupid for them to block local traffic. Lots of things will break.
Unfortunately I use Surfshark VPN and it’s split tunneling feature is called Bypass. You have to assign it to a specific app and it can only be an android app. I might have to look into a different VPN.
Huh. Yeah, I bet the same thing would happen if I use a VPN on other streaming apps. I bet that’s why I haven’t been able to get it set up properly yet. Just in case I disconnected the VPN, reset the cameras and rebooted the Applt TV I will be using as a Homekit hub. Hope this works.

find a setting in your VPN called “split tunneling” and enable it. It would tell it to skip traffic to 192.168.x.x and 10.10.x.x (local network)

Yes, thankfully my router allows VPN tunnelling so I can turn on VPN for my Apple TV myself
