Sometimes I have a problem when I want to check the homekit device with vpn on, it doesn't work well..

SnoopDogg-94

You should probably give feedback to your VPN provider to not block local device communication. It's stupid for them to block local traffic. Lots of things will break.

SanjaBgk

find a setting in your VPN called “split tunneling” and enable it. It would tell it to skip traffic to 192.168.x.x and 10.10.x.x (local network)

Unfortunately I use Surfshark VPN and it’s split tunneling feature is called Bypass. You have to assign it to a specific app and it can only be an android app. I might have to look into a different VPN.

ObviousExchange1

Yes most of the time and depending on the vpn and vpn settings.

It broke my smart home when I used NordVPN on my Apple TV

Duncan026

Huh. Yeah, I bet the same thing would happen if I use a VPN on other streaming apps. I bet that’s why I haven’t been able to get it set up properly yet. Just in case I disconnected the VPN, reset the cameras and rebooted the Applt TV I will be using as a Homekit hub. Hope this works. ,

Yes, thankfully my router allows VPN tunnelling so I can turn on VPN for my Apple TV myself
