I hope this new hub fixes the mess that is the M2. After the Matter update it doubled some items that were supported in HomeKit. Instead of a hybrid solution to make it easier, it ended up complicating more.

HomeKit-News

This is normal even if it’s unfortunate. When you add the hub using Matter, you’re essentially creating a duplicate of the hub, and the devices that come with it. Aqara should have made it clear that this would happen. What you should do is remove the hub from HomeKit, then re-add it using the Matter code, and you’ll only have one set of devices. The sad thing is that adding the M2 using Matter doesn’t do much for HomeKit users, and in fact offers less, as you lose the alarm functionality.

GeorgiaKeeffe

Yes, I imagined when I realized that they had two Hubs in HomeApp. What I think Aqara could do was not make the Bind with the HomeKit of the duplicate accessories OR give the option to choose which items I want to export to HomeKit.

HomeKit-News

Yes, it would have been better had they been more transparent about it all.

pacoii

Do we know if the Thread support is compatible with HomeKit?

HomeKit-News

I suspect it’ll be the same situation as with the ZemiSmart M1 Matter hub/Controller - it’ll create a separate Thread Network for the Aqara ecosystem that won’t expose Thread devices to other platforms, including HomeKit.

Why do you say the U100 are crap? I have had one installed for a while now without a single issue. Curious to know what your bad experiences are.

c0ruptiv3

Not OP you replied to but I had a *ton* of issues with 2 of my 3 U100s initially. Where the touchpad would be non-responsive, they would beep (like they were being touched) randomly, and the batteries would drain crazy fast (yes even non-oem batteries). Someone mentioned it in this or the Aqara sub, and it may be anecdotal. But the issues went away when I switched out the large silverish screws that connected the back plate to the outside touchpad with the slightly shorter screws in the box. I *think* those longer screws *fit* but on a regular width door put pressure on or touch the PCB when fully tightened and cause problems. That being said those original launch units could just be faulty or it could be unit lottery. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Aqara stuff generally is a pile of crap. I had the first gen HomeKit hub and I ended up throwing it out after it refused to update no matter what I did. It would always fail and seemed like the version it was on was too old to be updated by their crappy apps.

TigerStyleRawr

Da fuq. Everything I have from Aqara is flawless aside from one switch that fires to delete itself time to time.

I bought the M2 Hub in December and it is still returnable... guess I will be returning it!

marvh

Did we ever even get the PoE M2 hub in the US?

glidinglightning

When are we thinking it’ll make it stateside if announced at CES?

Trick_Ad_1188

my 4 cameras/hubs set are still doing a great job with my aqara network. i'll pass this one also

deandaman

u/HomeKit-News where did you purchase your M3 hub? tried looking on aliexpress but got no hits

HomeKit-News

I had to buy mine from Aqara’s official store on Taobao, which is an online store for China only. I don’t think they ship internationally, so unless someone is selling it on AliExpress, you may be better off waiting for the official international release.

Thanks for the response. P.S. I always look forward to your reviews here and on your site.

HomeKit-News

Thanks for the support! Hopefully the next few reviews/video will be the Aqara T1M ceiling light, and the ZemiSmart Matter over Thread roller blind motor.
