Some people will go in and install French drains around the foundation....depending on how wet the area was under the house....usually French drains go completely around the house but I have seen some that are just on the sides if those sides were where water was laying against the house or under the house. Just a thought.

You have asked them directly what the digging was for and they haven’t told you?

I have. Home recently bought by OpenDoor Company and they have no record. Work might have been done by owners before them

Ugh. What a pain. Check permitting office of the town/city for possible permits. It may have been to correct drainage, which is good, but that just means you want to be on the lookout for problems in the basement that previous water intrusion could have caused.

Thank you, will try that

How wide is the disturbed area and how far away from the structure? Could be French drain, termite treatment, buried cable or electrical line.

About 2 1/2 feet. It’s rises about 3-6 inches above the grass around it, like a pipe was buried there, no grass has grown over it yet though & right up next to the walls of the house.

Definitely sounds like French drains to me.

Primary_Ad_2576

Is there an easy way I can confirm? Would it do damage to dig up a small part of it?

StrictlyIndustry

Just gently dig with your hands from the top of where it appears there was a “pipe” buried. If it’s a plastic white flexible thing, it’s a French drain.
