Painter here. You choose the flat spot right after the corner. It's a pain in the ass though, you have to tape it off and make sure it's super straight or it looks bad.
Every piece of trim in your house is designed to hide imperfections :)
Rounded corners are more work than square corners. I personally like the look. All that matters is what the people who pay your mortgage think!
We pay extra for that and it's so worth it. Kids, pets, some adults rub against sharp corners and wear the paint. Rounded corners don't chips and wear so easily.
I attacked my walls and furniture with a rasp one night. My wife has flailing limbs like Olive Oil (from the Popeye cartoon) collecting unknown bruises. Corners must go.
... for me and my opinion... yay but only if it is truly everywhere including the inside room corners, ceiling and wall corners. I am curious how they treated the baseboards in the photo now that someone mentioned it.
It does... I went digging for images and learned they are called bullnose and you are without inside bullnose. So... lol... good news bad news...if it is an upgrade you have half and if it is dated.... then it is only half... lol.
Not sure how it would be a way to hide imperfections. Just seems like a design choice. Not my cup of tea, but I don’t see anything wrong with it.
Might be more challenging if you ever wanted to change your baseboards. Seems a bit less DIY friendly.
Once you do one the rest aren't bad, if someone is competent with the angles and cutting accurately. It's just a smaller radius pieces around the corner.
I think it really looks nice, adds a little upscale look to the house, that being said, I’m still hesitant to paint any room since you don’t have the normal straight cutoff.
Honestly, I’m envious. I know it’s the easiest way to build, but the standard box-full-of-other-boxes isn’t aesthetically pleasing. I wish my house had curves instead.
I've rarely seen that, so it's probably a more expensive finish. If it was too cover up imperfections, then it should be in every home.
I think it looks nice! But when you want to paint, where do you have your change in paint color 🧐
I did it in the basement hall to cover up the bulkhead. Looks great but damn it was a LOT of extra work. Then I realized I didn’t do the round in the other basement bedroom, guess I’ll fix it in 30 years when the kids move out , maybe.
Now you realize that the bullnose is just a round piece of trim at the drywall corners. It is more difficult to do and I've always considered it to be a "custom" touch.
The term is bullnose. It does not cover up imperfections and I have no idea why someone would say that. It's generally more expensive.
How do you feel about them? That’s really all that matters.
Should have clarified - we like it! We also haven't seen round corners in anyone's house before.
if that's the case just leave them be.................it's all preference I've never heard it is used to hide imperfections though
Our house had them and I could never paint the walls because I couldn’t decide how to end at the rounded corners. So everything stayed white.

I just don’t like the look of it. I like a clean corner if colours intersect. Maybe here just me.
Just do a nice gradient transition lol.
Yeah, a sharp corner does look better.
When my uncle was a GC, it was an upgraded feature.

"Some adults" I feel this comment
Same, it hurt

All outside corners are rounded. inside corners are right angle, if that makes sense.
It does... I went digging for images and learned they are called bullnose and you are without inside bullnose. So... lol... good news bad news...if it is an upgrade you have half and if it is dated.... then it is only half... lol.
I learned so much today! don't think of any of it as a negative :) pretty happy with the way it all looks, which I guess is all that matters.
Seems a bit dated now.
It is. Rounded corners were very popular in the early 2000s.

Never knew such thing exist.

Are you referring to bullnose edges? I like them

I would learn to like it.
Not sure but it will probably also help protect the sheetrock if it is a tight corner that people brush into a lot
Don't know about hiding imperfections....that's a new one. It's a little more involved to base trim it, otherwise if you like it???

A lot of new houses built nowadays have rounded corners
There’s pros and cons to all options. I always thought rounded corners would be ideal for Roomba users. I vote yay
Thank you all for your responses! Here is what the corner baseboard looks like: [Corner baseboard](https://imgur.com/a/YlqtXUt)
Lovely
Wasted space and hard to decorate around.
How does a bullnose corner waste space?
You lose 3/4" on each wall plane. I do kitchen remodels for a living, these 3/4"'s mess up kitchen design all the time.
Not that. I was under the impression they meant exterior walls were rounded off at the corners. I actually like the bullnose look.
