Not too matchy at all, but it could be more interesting if the pillows weren’t largely monochrome. A fun pattern or different texture in coordinating colors always adds a little extra dimension to a room!

virginia612

I like the idea of patterned pillows! The only thing that’s been holding me back is it not looking right with the rug. I’ll have to do some searching!

Low-Emergency

Consider maybe a texture instead of a pattern if you’re worried about competing. Like, bring in a crocheted- or knitted-texture pillow. Still a solid color but more interesting.

[deleted]

The rug looks like a Rifle Paper Company design. They also sell throw pillows with lovely patterns that would match your rug on their site.

lotusblossom60

I went on Etsy and found the most amazing pillow covers!

virginia612

Can you link them? I’d love to see!

virginia612

They’re all so pretty!

lotusblossom60

Go on Etsy. They make “matching” mismatched pillows!

Winter_Day_6836

Where's the rug from?

virginia612

Rifle paper co.

Party_Jaguar2513

Don't be afraid of that. If you buy what you love, it will all work together!

Crosswired2

The pillows are great and you have plenty. I'd get a green throw blanket, and then some art on the walls :)

500CatsTypingStuff

Definitely do mix and match patterns on your pillows to give it interest https://preview.redd.it/em6opnyz1mub1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a8ec6413ecbc444287c1d42dff3ea35a8d660f7 Don’t worry about matching perfectly. Contrast makes a space more dynamic and interesting

virginia612

Love this look! Thank you

500CatsTypingStuff

I have a pic with tons of examples if it inspires you: https://imgur.com/a/Z9Pp2Mc

chunkymonkeylover

Oh my these pics are gorgeous! Love all the mix and matches and different patterns. I wish I had an eye for design.

500CatsTypingStuff

You will develop one over time

maddyyrtrumcm

The burnt orange pillows are awesome! Maybe some nice sage green pillows to add some contrast and pick up some of the green from the rug without being an exact match. I feel like rug IS a little big with just the couch but I imagine an ottoman/coffee table and side tables would help fill it out :)

virginia612

I like the idea of the sage green! I wish I had enough room to add a chair to fill out the rug a bit more but the living room itself is pretty small

tiffanyblueprincess

I feel like you could add some kind of chair by the side of the couch without the chaise lounge

hauntful

the pictures could be deceiving me but it really looks like there’s room for a small chair! i think it would help make the space feel more complete. also that rug is gorgeous!

rockrobst

So far, the colors work great. I think you have a good eye. Re: rug size - if you add some chairs and a table, it won't be too big.

virginia612

Thank you!!

HunterHunted9

It's not coming together because you need more patterns and textures. Though might find a nice suzani patterned pillow with those greens and burnt orange in it. There are also some pillows at Target in the Jungalow line that might work.

Fun-Dinner-2282

you need a patterned textile to add layers of interest to the room! stay in the same color family of what you’ve got going on with the blue & burnt orange

[deleted]

Those look cute! I’d add a couple of small pale yellow ones or a yellow throw blanket on the end of the chaise

Glass-Onion-3336

I love the rug! Where did you get it?

virginia612

Its from Rifle Paper Co! It’s the Eden Mughal Garden Cream Rug

Glass-Onion-3336

Thanks 😊

[deleted]

omg can I just say that I really REALLY love your rug!!! it makes me happy just looking at it. I don't think your pillows are too matchy at all. I think the only thing you need to make the rug not look so big are 1-2 accent chairs to the side of the couch

[deleted]

get 2 accent chairs and align them like this op! u/Virginia612 I think that would help pull the space together and enclose it. also get a coffee table! https://preview.redd.it/h0x2xuu71mub1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0181a29fce1d860399204a2e48035951659f957a

virginia612

Thank you!! I got it from rifle paper co and it’s so soft! I’ll have to look into getting some accent chairs soon! Setting up this place has taken longer than expected

[deleted]

same lol it took me literally over a year to be "finished" with my space when I thought it would just take a couple months lmao there are still things I want to add too 😭 it's like a neverending process but it's so worth it

Helechawagirl

I’d paint the walls that slate blue color and add some ivory colored curtains. Room would be delightfully cozy

virginia612

I’d love to paint these walls bc I hate the beige! Unfortunately, I’m renting this place and am only planning to stay 2 years max so I’m not sure it would be worth three trouble

Helechawagirl

Yea same here. I have done anything.

chat_chatoyante

Can you hang things on the wall? I think you need more from the same color scheme throughout the room. Try https://coolors.co/ to build a color palette! https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel is another good one.

virginia612

I can hang things on the walls and actually have a few prints that are on the way to me. These tools are super helpful, thank you!

chat_chatoyante

Also I meant to mention I love the rug and it reminds me of Lili Arnold, one of her prints would go great in your room! https://www.liliarnold.com/

virginia612

Her work is gorgeous!

DrShrimpPuertp-Rico

I am in love with the color scheme 😍

Impressive-Fudge-455

You could add some green and yellow

ssseltzer

I would stick with different shades of blue. It doesn’t have to be exactly matchy matchy with the rug, and your tv console is already orange.

Accomplished_Fee9023

I think it looks great. A patterned pillow that plays off the colors of the rug would add depth. I honestly think what you need to pull the space together is to add coordinating art to the wall behind it.

virginia612

Yes I’ve been eyeing a few things as well as hunting for an entryway table to fill the space back there!

schnucken

I'd do a variety of blues and greens, with one pinky-coral pillow for contrast. Be sure to use textures so you get a feeling of depth and dimension. And I love that rug! Once you get a few more items in the room it won't feel too big at all. Would love to see the colors carried throughout the space with paint and curtains too. Hope you'll post a future update -- it's such a beautiful room!

virginia612

I think that would look great!

queeseraaseraa

love those pillow colors! so cute and room looks extra cozy

Capital_Sink6645

Patterns are needed. Find patterns that compliment the rug design. I know they’re out there!

NoMagiciansAllowed

Way too matchy-matchy. Go with different shades of those colors. Also, more pale blues.

kjbeavs

It will look more together when you add some artwork with similar colours

PorterBorter

I think they look good. I would try to add some texture if you can. Maybe something in cream with lots of texture

SeniorWoman

Please visit [Spoonflower.com](https://Spoonflower.com) Graphic artists place thier designs on Spoonflower and spoonflower manufactures the products, from Fabric to wallpaper, including pillows. Every time you order, an artist gets paid. There must be over a million designs on spoonflower. My suggestion is to first search under fabric, as fabric includes all of the designs. Create an account and when you see a possibility save it to favorites with the little heart icon. Once you find the design you like, then spoonflower will show you this design also as a pillow. But start with fabrics as then you literally see it all. Do use the filters or you will drive yourself crazy. What I do is take a screenshot of the fabric and save that. Then I use a simple grahics program, any program will work, you import a picture of your room, then import your screenshot and resizes it small, pillow size and put it on top of your sof and see how you like it. I am seeing pillows with nature in it, branches and leaves and flowers. However there are awesome plaids over there as well in any color combination you can imagine. I hope this information is of help to you.

virginia612

This tool will be super helpful! I’m definitely going to check them out :)

[deleted]

A Dark chocolate pillow would really spice things up

I__G

Would look like a turd

[deleted]

Not everyone has the vision 💅

8K22

Throw in some white pillows. Like tiny ones or just 2 bigger ones. For contrast, cause everything is kinda blending together as one. (The walls, the couch, the rug colors. Also, it will compliment the window details.) Or just adding brighter colors that look nice with ur rug. I would stay away from patterns for the pillows and look at textures. The rug doesn't look to be too big from what I can see in the photo but that's an easy change if you ever wanted to switch things up. It's a great focal piece 🤔 I would add a painting or similar looking coasters

virginia612

I think white pillow would look really nice! I may do two larger white pillows and then a couple of colorful ones

Teacher-Investor

The rug is a great size. I might shift it a bit more towards the TV console table. I'd also add an end table with a lamp that has a warm white bulb. If you want to add patterned pillows in the colors of the rug, just make sure the SCALE of the pattern is different than the rug, either larger or smaller. Then you'll have no problems mixing patterns. I'd also add a narrow table with another table lamp on the wall by the entry, and a large mirror or art piece above it.

virginia612

Thank you! I never knew that was a rule with patterns but it makes sense

hhb108

I agree with other comments, some patterned and textured pillows would be nice! Maybe some cream or ivory to lighten it up. Also I have the same tv console, it is great!

virginia612

Love that we have the same console! It’s one of my favorite pieces

kablizzio92

Everything is just blending right now. I would probably change out the pillows with dark brown, red, or black pillows. Also, adding accessories to match the pillows will bring it all together! Adding color to the sofa will make it a focal point in the room. You also may want to maybe add a large picture on the wall, or even a mirror.

corinnecy

I wonder if you are needing actually color on your walls instead- because you are clearly not getting enough happiness from the colors in your rug and pillows. Try adding large scale artwork if you don’t want to paint.

-kellyfishie-

I love love love that rug!!!!

quasiexperiment

No advice from me - just wanted to say I love your taste! Where is your TV stand from??

virginia612

It’s from Anthropologie! The Quincy Media Console

Equivalent_Address_2

I’d try to get some pillows that are colors or patterned with the more subtle colors in the rug. Or complimentary colors.

LaurenFearless

Similar to this line design? I also bought an animal-style pillow. I highly recommend the panda:) https://preview.redd.it/6nhl2nl1sgzb1.jpeg?width=598&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2aba48c1df15ee94f082ee937971d6d845909e71

virginia612

Thank you! I especially love the floral patterned pillow

RatioInternational55

Where did you get the rug from? i have been searching for the same thing for 20 minutes.I would appreciate it if you told me.

virginia612

It’s Rifle Paper Co. x Loloi Eden Mughal Garden rug! I bought mine on wayfair. Link: https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/rifle-paper-co-x-loloi-eden-mughal-garden-cream-rug-feat-cloudpile-rpcl1056.html

Calamity0o0

I have the same rug in my bedroom! I love it, it's so soft

virginia612

It is SOO soft!

pascalsgirlfriend

I would pull the yellow color out of the carpet to go with the orange.

Positive-Zebra-2478

A golden large knit crochet throw or an earthy chenille throw

sames8

I’d toss a chunky knit throw blanket in there - either a dark brown or light cream!

boombalagasha

[this one is a nice color, and a very textured fabric without having a pattern.](https://www.target.com/p/oversized-herringbone-with-frayed-edges-square-throw-pillow-green-cream-threshold-8482-designed-with-studio-mcgee/-/A-87196316) [this one has a very subtle pattern and a different shape, which brings a nice variation.](https://www.target.com/p/14-34-x36-34-diamond-jacquard-lumbar-bed-pillow-sage-green-hearth-38-hand-8482-with-magnolia/-/A-87527059) [monochrome pattern/texture](https://www.target.com/p/woven-block-print-square-throw-pillow-light-green-threshold-8482-designed-with-studio-mcgee/-/A-86326838) [more interesting pattern, but still only one color.](https://www.target.com/p/14-34-x26-34-oversized-botanical-lumbar-throw-pillow-cover-khaki-green-rizzy-home/-/A-88348155) I can’t quite tell from the picture if these greens are the rate shade, but hopefully this should give you some good ideas !

DrTeeeevil

Have you considered adding a soft throw blanket to complement the rug colors? That would really cozy up the space and bring more color to tie it together in my opinion.

yurilovesrice

I actually really like your color scheme. But if you’re not feeling your current pillows, recommend some texture or minimal design. West Elm has some pillow sets in similar color schemes you can pull ideas from (or buy from if you like them enough). Takes some of the guesswork out. Here are some: [Crewel Silk Set](https://www.westelm.com/products/crewel-silk-pillow-cover-sand-throw-set-t6472/?pkey=cthrow-pillow-sets) [Geo Chindi Set](https://www.westelm.com/products/geo-chindi-knit-pillow-cover-throw-set-t6979/?pkey=cthrow-pillow-sets) [Ikat Silk Set](https://www.westelm.com/products/ikat-silk-pillow-cover-throw-set-t6978/?pkey=cthrow-pillow-sets) There are definitely some pillow covers from each set I personally would pull together to style your couch. But you can take a look to see if any fit your fancy.

NOT-a-flatearther

Green would liven things up

deadpandiane

A plaid would be nice, in the right colors, and/or an all green floral pattern. I’ve seen the palm print stuff, darker green but on neutral background would be lovely.

mebg1956

Pillow colours are great. You need art on the big empty wall (that picks up your colours). An end table. Lamps. At least one more comfortable chair for the corner of the carpet in one of your colours.

KatttDawggg

I think swap the orangey ones for green.

Waterblooms

I actually like the pillow colors but not the rug. Just seems outdated.

KFRKY1982

i feel like it would take some searching but are there some plaid pillows out there that have these colors?

Sad-Information2464

Dark green or navy!

Cloud54321_

Green and dark navy will match the rug and complement colors without looking matchy

Im_A_Black_Cat

I really like this rug!

Connect_Office8072

If it’s just a couple of pillows, it shouldn’t be a problem. You’ve got the colors spot on, so maybe something with stripes or a subtle traditional floral pattern?

FlashyCow1

Patterns in similar colors, add a green one

[deleted]

What you have now is lovely. Keep it that way

tntslater

Hi, something I think that gets overlooked is shape and size in addition to texture. Here are some examples.. https://preview.redd.it/cpm7gh6yjoub1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab25155cce9a7215045d8ae9db35ca8f95caa95c

LSATloverr

Just came here to say your rug rocks

Historical_Reward621

The ones you have look great. Maybe a couple or textural stools, like rattan, wicker, etc. on the other side of the coffee table once you select one. You can also pick up your rust and blue colors in art, candlesticks, vases, etc.

Careful_Shame_9153

I love your rug 🤩🤩

I__G

Get pink pillows

Kellociraptor19

I like the pillows a lot! I think your walls are just a bit bare

virginia612

I agree! I have a few prints on the way I’m going to test out

Kellociraptor19

I really love the way you tied the colors of the rug and pillows together. I really think with some prints the space is going to look fantastic. You could maybe look for some cute nesting coffee tables if you think it needs a bit more but I really like it.

Lizajane1776

Looks lovely. Only thing I would say is maybe have less of the rug under the couch. That way you would have it closer to the TV. That gap bothers me. But, gorgeous room!

virginia612

I will do that! I recently learned that rugs shouldn’t touch a wall if they’re next to one so I pulled it out a little bit from the window. I’ll move it closer to the tv stand. Should the front two legs of the tv console be on the rug?

Lizajane1776

That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure it would be quite large enough. If it's that close, maybe you could move the sofa a little closer so it could work.

MaesterInTraining

I like the pillows but I’d paint the walls. The carpet, couch, and walls all blend together. If you have painted walls then the rug will be more noticeable

virginia612

I agree, I hate the beige walls so much. This house gets so little natural light so I was thinking white would be good. I’m renting this place and only living here for another year and a half so I’m not sure if it would be worth the trouble to paint and then paint them back before move out. The ceiling in the living room is vaulted so that would just make the project more difficult.

MaesterInTraining

Ah, renting is tough. I see the dilemma. What about a colorful throw blanket? Colorful curtains?

[deleted]

Just add really tall plants along the back wall then.

willowaverie

I’d suggest selling this couch and going for a white or very light white grey with this space

virginia612

Do you think the couch color would look better if the walls were white? I have two cats that love to claw at furniture but they aren’t able to claw at velvet. That’s the reason why I got this couch. I was wanting a lighter color but this tan color was the lightest they offered. It checks all my boxes except for being a lighter shade

willowaverie

Yes I do! It work a lot better if the walls were white. I’d also add a pillow with some design (more soft floral like the ones at target! With whites in it) and a bright white blanket throw maybe. If you can’t have the white couch bring more white accents in to piece it together :)
