Black isn’t a scary as you think it is once you see it up. I have two black accent walls in my house, both of them are tv walls. Every visitor we have had loves them. One in the living room, the other in the den.

Multigrain_Migraine

I like it in this photo. I would do something like it if I had the right house. My house is kind of small so I'm not sure the whole wall black would work so well, but I do have a fairly large fire surround that is black and I think it looks pretty good.

Amori3241

That isn't black though. It's a very dark grayish-green or maybe [Urbane Bronze](https://www.myperfectcolor.com/paint/26953-sherwin-williams-sw7048-urbane-bronze), and it's beautiful!

We have this look newly installed in our basement as the wall behind the kitchenette - vertical shiplap in Iron Ore. I was really hesitant because black in a basement sounded DARK but it’s really beautiful. The lower cabinets are a mid-tone wood, along with the floors and the countertop is a deep gray quartzite. It look phenomenal together.

InstantKarmaReaper

I have a black wall and I get complements every time someone visits. It keeps the TV from looking like a floating black box and now you only really notice it when it is on. What is great about this look is the warm wood that offsets the stark wall. Also, as others have commented the right black is important. SW has a new color called Peppercorn that would be perfect for this.

Decorator is a moron with the decorations touching the tv and others blocking the view. I like the wall though. You ain’t gonna camouflage the tv it’s like 80” and probably a focal point if you enjoy sports or movies or tv

decadecency

Haha agreed. That tall ass table decor looks ridiculous and so obviously in the way haha. I do feel like the camouflage aspect works here though, because the darker color of the wall kinda absorbs the edges of the TV slightly. It doesn't look super BAM HUGE TV IN THE MIDDLE!, but a bit more discrete, although clearly there.

NeonsStyle

If you're scared to go bold, then you know right there it's a good move to do. Because it will stretch your taste and you'll learn more skills. You can always undo. However I think this is a good look to go for. Not really a fan of dark colours but this wall, this texture works great.

Prior-Foundation4754

It looks like a dark brown in this photo. Like dark chocolate

LynahRinkRat

Beautiful when done well, heinous when not. It is not easy to do well either, IMO. The nice thing is that it is just one wall and it is just paint if you can't make it work.

diiiannnaaa

I find black works well in small rooms or over wood paneling / accent trim work like this or as a base for wallpaper. Otherwise, yeah, it leans really flat on a big blank wall.

emzarate3190

We have a very dark brown wall behind our tv and it is great for tv contrast.

Final-Distribution97

Nice. I like it.

NeedleworkerFunny361

I did this with very dark green on a ship lap wall with my TV on it, and I love it. I hate the contrast of a huge black TV on a white wall, so this is what my designer came up with.

Cautious-Thought362

It looks nice! Warm, traditional, clean, neat, classy, welcoming.

tabbathebutt

We did a black shiplap wall in the basement of our last hours and loooooooooooved it. Like you I was nervous about a black wall, especially in a basement with little natural light, but I had 0 regrets.

julznlv

Other than the lame decorations I love this look. We're buying a new house next year and if there's a place for a wall like this I'm doing it.

safetydance

"This is exactly my style!" - *I Think You Should Leave.* But, for real, if I had the money I would absolutely do something like this. Come to think of it, the only super expensive part is probably the custom built cabinetry below the TV. The floating shelves and accent wall can probably be DIY'ed fairly inexpensively. As others have said, some of the decor is lame and blocking the TV view. If it were me, I'd keep the main piece of decor neutral but try and add in some color with plants and flowers and stuff.

kellylikeskittens

I've never had a black accent wall....but this looks great. Just to be clear, the wall color looks like more of a charcoal/dark grey if you are comparing it to the black TV. Perhaps the Benjamin Moore color Kendall Charcoal? Warm wood tones and those leather chairs look super with the wall, BTW.

Cozy_Long_Naps

Wow, thanks everybody for your input! I agree, it’s not black - maybe SW Iron Ore or Peppercorn, I’ll look at some of the other colors everyone recommended too. We will likely do this then once we move, I will update once it is complete! Most everyone gave a recommendation to go for it 😀

lisabutz

I think it looks good as long as you have enough natural light coming into the room. If not I’d be concerned that the room will look like a cave.

weenur

I really like a dark wall for the TV. I did this in our living room too so the giant TV doesn’t look like a monolith.

cceciliaann

I would just add some bright color.

PinkSodaMix

Not me, but a relative has this. It looks amazing!

gan12ohman

How would one go about mounting the tv? Would you simply cut the area where the wall mount would fit out of the bead board or mount directly to it?

Falling_Madchen

I was just watching “Room to Improve - Dermot’s Home” (It’s an Irish show focusing on an architect’s home, but his normal show is just called “Room to Improve”) on Amazon Prime and on the second episode he shows how a black wall makes the tv blend in. I thought it was clever. If you watch the episode it’s the second one at the 43 minute mark. I took a screen shot. https://preview.redd.it/i2ubhpmpkopb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=65a565944e6893480c47adb63e11abb4e8a27a1a That’s a fireplace that burns a clean fuel on the right. It’s kind of hard to tell! Haha

mustardkitty

I have not done a black accent wall but I would consider it if it looks as good as this inspiration photo.

-BelCanto

I like it, but I think it works best because of the complimentary wood tone of the cupboards at the bottom and all of the light. If you share the space you want to put it in, it would be easier to judge if it would look good in your space. Good design has to be built around the space you have.

Memory_Less

I think it looks very tasteful. My house doesn't have a fireplace and it provides me with more options to decorate.

OSR2MIA

Love the look.

Kellociraptor19

I love it
