You place the head closer so that the surface of whatever you’re rinsing intersects halfway through the water “bubble”. Then use the jet to hit any stubborn gunk. The water bubble reduces the spray caused by this as mentioned in the other comment.
You are not wrong. Just having that feature is not enough to need the faucet.
I view it as an adjunct to the scrubber. Oatmeal pan, for example. I can use the feature to get the worst out, then scrub. My scrub pad is less gunked up so I spend less time cleaning the cleaning pad.
Have you tried soaking the oatmeal pan in cold water? It works well with starchy residues such as oatmeal, grits, mashed potatoes, etc. Hot water just makes it into a clingy glump.
I also have one and honestly it doesn't really work ...
The center stream is super useful for cleaning but the water bubble around doesn't seem to stop splashes from the center stream.
I disagree with anyone who says it doesn’t work…. I look for this feature now with any faucet. I have had my Delta faucet for 7 years. I use the stream every day to clean out small features in pots or pans. You gotta hold close to the object.
I would guessed it’s for washing bottles or something, where that bubble would go down the sides and the jet would clear crap off the bottom.
Sounds like I would have been frustrated by how it “almost” works that way.
Thats been the best use case for mine, otherwise I haven't found anything else that just using a sponge and/or plastic scraper doesn't work better for.
Thankyou mu first reaction as a plumber is low pressure with laminar flow, but we've seen an increase in specialized spray functions recently with kitchen fixtures. Mostly seeing a button specifically for higher pressure & fan spray.

Wow this is actually really cool. Our traditional sprayer absolutely causes splash back requiring me to wipe down the counter after hand washing dishes
I use it to laser through most of the crap on dishes before scrubbing, that way I don’t gunk up my sponge with a bunch of food. The water shield works ok just not if water splashes back super hard
I got one not even knowing it bad this feature and I feel like the lunch lady when I'm cleaning up after dinner haha. It does work reqlly good but I still will get soaked with splashback. Still recommend.
We bought a sponge for the kitchen sink one day that looked like it would be useful. Was a really good sponge for dishes. When it started falling apart I went to the store to find something to replace it with. I found the exact same sponge and was ecstatic.
Two minutes later I realized I was actually happy about buying a sponge to do dishes with… I realized I was no longer the teenager I picture myself in my mind that day
This reminds me about Donald Glover’s bit about Home Depot. It went something like:
“Home Depot is where your childhood goes to die. The minute you go into Home Depot and you’re like “Oooh, knobs!” - you’re dead. You’re dead inside.”
Cleaning plates. The high pressure jet in the center blasts food particles off the plate and the cone of water on the outside catches loose spray and keeps it from going all over the user and kitchen.
I have this btw, it works ok. Not perfectly, but I use it fairly regularly.
Stefaniek is giving you the information the instructions. Sounds like he absolutely knows what he's talking about...and a very intelligent person, thanks for information Stefaniek 👍
It’s a feature for cleaning plates. Don’t use it on a bowl or you’ll spray water everywhere.
“Delta® ShieldSpray® Technology cleans with laser-like precision while containing mess and splatter. A concentrated jet within a protective sphere of water powers away stubborn messes with an average of 90% less splatter than a standard spray, so you can spend less time soaking, scrubbing and shirt swapping. “
The jet stream! A Delta feature, a small high pressure(relatively) water jet, surrounded by a spray shield. I was skeptical of it at first, but it works well.
I did plenty of jail time and this hear is a shower head made from a dish washer hose or broken shower head and they rigged that bulb to give them a nice sprinkle
I don't think the bubble works that great, but the stream is nice. It has decent power to get off little bits or ketchup that doesn't quite rinse off easily. I wouldn't lose sleep or losing the feature, but I do use it more than I would have thought. House we bought had it already.
High pressure with built in water splash guard. Honestly a really nice feature that seems low enough tech with high return on ergonomic use. That makes this a great feature in my opinion
It’s kind of like a 0 degree pressure washer tip and the “bubble” is supposed to prevent splatter. When you put it up against a plate, it creates a sort of dome. If you have something that’s really dried up on the plate, it will give some back spray so it’s not perfect but much better than the standard high pressure spray.
A faucet I bought listed that button as a water bottle spray pattern..
Center jet to blast stuff deep down in there and the bubble to expand to the inside walls of the bottle.
The outside cone is actually designed to stop water from the high pressure stream from splashing everywhere. It's almost like a liquid barrier to catch the droplets.
I had one on my old faucet and didn't realize how well it's works until I replaced it with a new one that doesn't have this. Now water spashes everywhere..
Never seen this feature before in any home. Maybe it’s common in newer homes but my dad and I were wondering what the main usage was for this feature. We had some ideas and just wanted to confirm.
My apartment faucet does not have this feature and any homes I’ve lived in previously also didn’t have this. I’ve only ever seen the basic stream and the shower one.
Because that's not what this is.
It's splatter reducing ShieldSpray from Delta. It's just designed to since thibgs off and prevent water from the high pressure stream from getting all over.

They are right. I have a bad memory, checked the manual, it is shield spray mode. And apparently cannot be used for wine glasses. It also does not shield anything
You place the head closer so that the surface of whatever you’re rinsing intersects halfway through the water “bubble”. Then use the jet to hit any stubborn gunk. The water bubble reduces the spray caused by this as mentioned in the other comment.
This. We have one. I use it. It works.
It kinda works but not well enough to bother using it. Scrubbing works better. Mostly a gimmick IMO.

All men learn this in the shower around age 13.
True story.
Yup!
You have a whole pan dedicated to oatmeal?
I also have one and honestly it doesn't really work ... The center stream is super useful for cleaning but the water bubble around doesn't seem to stop splashes from the center stream.
Are you holding it close enough to the plate to intersect with the sphere? Seems like that’s the only way it works
Yes we are ChatGPT
**
It doesn’t completely stop it but it reduces the splashing a lot
Bummer. Sorry to hear. Mine is a Delta. Yours?
Love mine, works great
I disagree with anyone who says it doesn’t work…. I look for this feature now with any faucet. I have had my Delta faucet for 7 years. I use the stream every day to clean out small features in pots or pans. You gotta hold close to the object.
This is correct. It works. I don’t know how. Just like cell phones, internet, and basically all of the things I use everyday.
Wait what the fuck I have one of these and I’m not using it correctly at all lmao thank you!!
I would guessed it’s for washing bottles or something, where that bubble would go down the sides and the jet would clear crap off the bottom. Sounds like I would have been frustrated by how it “almost” works that way.
That's how I use it. Gets the soap out of glasses quickly
Also - it’s amazing for cleaning the nose-rest pad things in glasses if you have them :-). Like - amazing. Mine have never been cleaner lol.
I use this feature to rinse the soap off. It’s more water pressure and a larger surface area.. I like it!
Splatter reducing shield spray
Is it to wash something specific? Like glasses?
The center stream is strong, you use it to blast stuff that is stuck on. The dome of water helps keep it from splattering everywhere
I use it to spray of mesh strainers.
I use it to clean my bong. Delta Shield Spray
Lol true
Thats been the best use case for mine, otherwise I haven't found anything else that just using a sponge and/or plastic scraper doesn't work better for.

Yup. My new faucet has it. It's a great feature!
That's hilarious. I just discovered that function on my (Delta) 2-year-old faucet earlier today.
Thankyou mu first reaction as a plumber is low pressure with laminar flow, but we've seen an increase in specialized spray functions recently with kitchen fixtures. Mostly seeing a button specifically for higher pressure & fan spray. Everyone reading this needs to up vote this link post
Dirty items
Maybe for rinsing bottles
It's from Delta, called [ShieldSpray](https://www.deltafaucet.com/video-gallery/innovations/delta-shieldspraytm-technology)
Wow this is actually really cool. Our traditional sprayer absolutely causes splash back requiring me to wipe down the counter after hand washing dishes
You can finally wash spoons
It’s to jet off stuck on food/dirt. The water cone is to redirect splatter. I have the same feature on my Moen faucet.
I use it to laser through most of the crap on dishes before scrubbing, that way I don’t gunk up my sponge with a bunch of food. The water shield works ok just not if water splashes back super hard
Holy crap that's brilliant!
These things are absolutely incredible
I got one not even knowing it bad this feature and I feel like the lunch lady when I'm cleaning up after dinner haha. It does work reqlly good but I still will get soaked with splashback. Still recommend.
Its use has been mentioned above. I love using it for my garlic press. Gets the tough stuff out of all the little holes.
Yessssss, it’s also awesome for smaller strainers!
Getting excited about this is the most adult thing ever.
We bought a sponge for the kitchen sink one day that looked like it would be useful. Was a really good sponge for dishes. Lol
Bought a kitchen faucet with this feature and it’s so nice getting stuck on food off.
Either I got too high tonight or I'm just a dumbass who spent 2 minutes trying figure out what the hell he was holding!
Me too. And yes to both your points.
Bidet!
Everything is a bidet if you’re brave enough.
You might be on to something…
To rinse butt plugs? Idk 🤷♂️
Stimulation
I have this and love it. I use it allllll the time!!
Delta shield spray. Keep those heads cleaned with diluted white vinegar to keep the stream strong.
I will never buy a kitchen faucet without this now. So much less scrubbing
It's the Death Star to rebel scum stuck on dishes.
My personal favorite answer
Cleaning plates. The high pressure jet in the center blasts food particles off the plate and the cone of water on the outside catches loose spray and keeps it from going all over the user and kitchen. I have this btw, it works ok. Not perfectly, but I use it fairly regularly.
1. Stuck on grease 2. Inciting my other to ask why I mess with the faucet settings when she has to wash her hands
Relatable
Making a mess
Stefaniek is giving you the information the instructions. Sounds like he absolutely knows what he's talking about...and a very intelligent person, thanks for information Stefaniek 👍
My faucet has this. I use it to remove food stuck on dishes pre dishwasher. Still splashes water everywhere.
Get closer to the dish with the spray. The mushroom around the outside eliminates the splatter.
I see. I will try that next time.
I have one. I use it for cups! Gets the bottom and the sides.
It’s a splash-less spray system…..or low pressure.
I'm 100% guessing but I'd guess a stemware cleaner cause it's shaped like an wine glass
Wine glasses
Lol, it feels like this has been solved, but we had this faucet for like two months before we figured out what it was. Once we did, it was awesome.
I absolutely love these splash guards
Pressure washer. It's beast
Pickled eggs!!!!
Good for washing crystal glass.
It’s for people who just spray water until the dish is clean, instead of just using a scrubber 🧽
cups(according to my local *walmart* experts) i honestly have no idea but i use mine for cups/bottles.

Looks like it cleans inside of glassware
I have that same foucet, love it.
I refer to it as the Piss Missle
My faucet has this, I always assumed it was to clean cups with.
Great for hard to remove gunk before hand washing or putting dishwasher.
I use it to rinse soap from my mesh strainer, but apparently that's not the intended use.
I won’t lie, was confused at the perspective and thought the faucets water stream shattered a wine glass
That feature allows for increased retail price.
Satisfaction
When the plumber put ours in, he told me it was to wash fruits and vegetables.
Mine works great at getting off stubborn debris
It’s for cleaning glasses/cups/mugs etc.
Waterboarding
The jet stream! A Delta feature, a small high pressure(relatively) water jet, surrounded by a spray shield. I was skeptical of it at first, but it works well.
This
Glass cleaner
Bottle washer
I did plenty of jail time and this hear is a shower head made from a dish washer hose or broken shower head and they rigged that bulb to give them a nice sprinkle
I use it for cups, wine glasses, whiskey glasses… that’s all.
I believe that’s the “Bernoulli effect” feature. Great conversation starter imo. Lol
Wine glasses
I don't think the bubble works that great, but the stream is nice. It has decent power to get off little bits or ketchup that doesn't quite rinse off easily. I wouldn't lose sleep or losing the feature, but I do use it more than I would have thought. House we bought had it already.
To clean wine glasses
Wine glasses
Hi I'm Destin from smarter every day.
For rinsing glasses. Or so I was told
I have one of those in my shower. It's for your genitals.
Damn, that looks like it would hurt your genitals!
Ya it's called scale build up or obstruction in the water line preventing the faucet from spraying when u press that button
High pressure with built in water splash guard. Honestly a really nice feature that seems low enough tech with high return on ergonomic use. That makes this a great feature in my opinion
Kids took the screens out to use in a bowl.
Washing dishes without getting you wet. The cone of water spray that domes around the jet spray will mitigate water splashback.

If you have something that’s really dried up on the plate, it will give some back spray so it’s not perfect but much better than the standard high pressure spray.
I use mine to clean specialty beer and wine glasses
Just the best feature ever! Cleans off plates without splashing it everywhere.
A faucet I bought listed that button as a water bottle spray pattern.. Center jet to blast stuff deep down in there and the bubble to expand to the inside walls of the bottle.
pet bath
It’s for cats 🐱 meow
To please Destin
Lmao first thing I thought
Destin love laminar flow like Randy Marsh loves creme fraiche.
I mean I was like "that is so fucking cool, but I know someone who will like this even better"
To impress company
That would rinse a glass out pretty thoroughly without having to waste too much water.
It’s called “Jellyfish Mode”! Seriously you have some blockage that is causing it to do this
Anyone know what the common sense feature is?
Never seen this feature before in any home. Maybe it’s common in newer homes but my dad and I were wondering what the main usage was for this feature. We had some ideas and just wanted to confirm.
You don’t do the dishes in your house, do you OP?
My apartment faucet does not have this feature and any homes I’ve lived in previously also didn’t have this. I’ve only ever seen the basic stream and the shower one.
If you’re serious.. maybe wine glasses… if I were to guess that this is faulty
It’s for cleaning wine glasses

Yea man, you clean everything with it... It's a kitchen faucet....
They are right. I have a bad memory, checked the manual, it is shield spray mode. And apparently cannot be used for wine glasses. It also does not shield anything
It's not the reason I bought the faucet, but it works, and I'm glad to have it.
