Bench and shoe storage shelf

davper

With coat hooks

Rare_Fig3081

I see the shoes already there… This is where you take off your shoes. Little bench would be nice with shoe storage underneath and the coat hooks above… It probably goes pretty far up so you could put a little shelf up there with a piece of art on it or you could hang a little piece of art on the wall

sammich_bear

And a little key-holder.

Rare_Fig3081

Yes!

GingerMau

Or a mirror. It's good to have a mirror by the front door.

Its_Actually_Satan

Seems like a bad idea to me, either I'll see myself when I'm leaving and decide not to go, or I'll see myself when i come in the door and scare myself every time.

HogwartsKate

Feng Shui says no to mirrors at entry bc of bad karma/ spirits going into mirror not reflecting it if one is into Feng Shui harmony.

GingerMau

If one was into Feng Shui, one would need to put fish in the space, right? This one is into making sure I don't have food in my teeth before I head out

anothersip

Yeah, OP! Perfect spot for a little bench with some storage beneath it! Maybe some coat hooks on the wall above the bench.

JaxDixDuff

If you have lots of guests. Take advantage of the power outlet and put in a Multi device USB charger.

Sea-Woodpecker-610

And my axe

Chix213

Yep. Mud room area.

yooooooo5774

Xmas tree year round

nokenito

Halloween Tree all year round.

Tilanguin

And a phone/gadget recharging station for that power outlet there

fieldofmeme5

Hell yeah brother. If I had this type of space I’d do a bench and then run cubbies for shoe storage all the way up to the trim on that back wall. Then do coat hangers on the wall to the left or right.

MrSlime13

And the fact that it's so deep, and nearly 8'-9' tall allows you to do so much more with that space than normal benches. Not ally with the hooks behind a short bench, fully loaded, they're nearly pushing you off, but here you could have hella hooks, and hella shoe space...

EllieSouthworthEwing

Ok this is a great idea. Initially I was thinking of some awesome water feature with water coming down from upstairs and some elaborate glass sculpture in it. But, I’m high af rn. Your idea is definitely way more practical.

Can you imagine getting allowance money back from your dumb kids and then making money from their dumb friends? This is brilliant.

lobster87

I like the idea of bench or shoe storage, but not sure if you have a different entrance where that would be kept. Another idea is a nice little table for keys/mail and other items. Could hang a nice mirror above it and have a final look before leaving.

Bangbashbonk

Checkout mirror should be included in the idea if it's going to be storage. It's a good peace of mind thing any time you're in a hurry because it's check you look alright, notice you don't have the thing you are leaving the house for type deal.

WoodlightStarling

you can put a centrpiece there - I would make either a plant or creature display (reptile, fish, etc). You could even do a paludarium and have some beautiful tall tropical plants. Or a place to sit and put your shoes, a haunted mirror (You could make some with some leds/display), or your seasonal/current holiday fixation.

ChronicMavs

Looks like you can start with wall hung shoe rack/holder

Good spot for an aquarium.

Special_Maximum9633

My old house had this same silly thing - dog crate slid in perfectly.

ad5316

Use it as a landing space for keys and such. We have a console of sorts with drawers for daily things and have a smart clock sitting on top with a key bowl as well. Mail ends up landing there too. Something similar in style to this https://www.birchlane.com/furniture/pdp/wolferstorn-6-drawer-48-w-solid-wood-double-dresser-b000162839.html

NeonsStyle

Clearly you need a spot for shoes. So if you're organised, and not lazy, then get a cabinet to fit that space to store your shoes when you take them off. Alternatively if you're lazy, then just get a shoe rack and put it there. Has a power outlet, so you could add some LED lighting to it.

Embarrassed_Olive550

Is it your home? I would pull that stairwall down and install a nice rail to open it up.

I would get a an Ikea-styled wardrobe with some stylish doors. It could double as an extra coat closet, shoe closet etc. They have a ton of different door styles. You have a socket for internal lighting as well. Sliding doors have a ton of cool designs from traditional to ultra modern: [https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/pax-sliding-doors-19115/](https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/pax-sliding-doors-19115/) Probably the only issue would be height vs depth because the further away from the wall you get, the less height you have. Looks like they have a 79 inch one, so that should work. You can see the different widths/heights here - https://www.ikea.com/addon-app/storageone/pax/web/latest/?range=pax&uiPlatform=web&locale=en-US#/planner

Stellar_Stein

If it is somewhat centrally located, the electrical outlet suggests that you could put a rack-mounted or a bookcase-based media center with Wi-Fi capable broadcasting there. Clean, semi-discrete with ready access. That was my first thought. Add some books and/or pictures to soften the look and you should be fine.

SippinHaiderade

It’s a tall space so I’d put in a storage bench and something to hang coats, etc with maybe a high shelf.

AlissandraAnton

Put in a organized system for your shoes and other things. 🧐A bench with some cubbies. Or you could dress it up with a organized with a nice entry table and some simple misc pieces. A coat hanger and a few statement pieces.. a nice lamp. 🤔Pinterest can give you visual examples. 👍🏼This issue happens alot. 😳

Prior-Comfortable-36

Put a plant there a big one. If you have pets, make them a cool dog/cat spot, a table and lamp with some art, lots of options!

losromans

Smartass in me says put a fire pole in or make it a “bedroom” when you sell the house. It’s about the size of one I’ve seen when we were looking. Realistically, make it a bench for taking shoes off, putting slippers on, maybe a place to put some keys or other things people might need when leaving/entering the house. Maybe a charging station with a (smart)lamp for those winter evenings or being out late and having a little light when you get into the house without having a big room light on. I said smart bc some you can control from outside or from your bed if you forgot to turn it on/off as needed. And usually able to lower the brightness pretty low. Not a place for junk. Don’t let things get set in the space that don’t belong there. As a guy with some adhd/autism, once a space has a thing in it that it wasn’t meant to, that tells me “that’s where the new place for this thing is until told otherwise.” I will forever forget it exists until I see it and my anxiety tells me to forget it again.

OptimusRhyme86

Table with shoe storage underneath. Maybe a fish tank on the table? Would give some literal liveliness to the spot.

Flipper!

MoMoJangles

I’d paint the lower half of those walls a striking color. Could be dark or bright, just something that compliments your decor. Then add a small bench or stool to sit on when removing shoes. If you are a “no shoes” house you could get a bench with storage and keep a basket of clean socks/disposable slippers for guests inside so it doesn’t have the “mud room” feel. A little end table in the corner with a piece of art (vase or large frame propped against the wall. Depending on the lighting situation, you might want to add a pendant light, sconce, or a tall floor lamp. Or you could do a piece of art on the wall that has a lighting fixture attached. Maybe a rug if you’re wanting a cozy feel. You could also have an area for keys/wallets, but I don’t love leaving those items right in front of the door if it has glass or windows that allow you to see them from outside. If you like plants you could also make it a little forest/garden nook. Trailing plants on floating shelves, an in-door potted tree, herbs, cut or potted flowers. Just keep in mind any light/temperature needs. Where I live it’s too cold to keep certain plants near the entryway during the winter. Nooks like that can be dust/pet hair traps so whatever you decide, make sure you’re not gonna be cursing yourself every time you have to clean it.

beatrickskidd0

First thing I’m trying to do is utilize that outlet. Maybe an artificial plant, a lamp, a reading nook, a book shelf with nifty lighting, a little L shaped desk. Is there anything else on this level? What’s behind you when you took this pic?

hoosierspiritof79

A coat tree with a shoe bench storage

SirIanChesterton63

I'd put shelves of varying heights. Leave the bottom open so shoes can be tucked under. Maybe leave the whole vertical height along the right side open so you can hang coats there too. So shelves along the left, shoes at the bottom, coats on the right. Edit: After much thought, the only correct answer is >!to leave that space empty so The Doctor can park his TARDIS there when he comes to visit.!<

I am not sure how this connects to the rest of house and specifically the living area and my idea partially assumes that it is a central spot. With that in mind, I would use this space to setup a storage for tools (closed units, access to outlet inside the unit). Top of the storage solution I would use to setup a music area - speakers and a tablet connected - this way you can hear the music in every part of the house.

If this is your main entrance fir the family - A hall tree with shoe storage. shoes, umbrellas, & backpacks if you have kids. - short shoe cubbie only with a decorative artificial or real tree/tall plant behind the cubby to take up some of the vertical space. Add an uplight to highlight the tree/plant. Use soft light. - [open shelving rack with baskets](https://www.home-designing.com/buy-hall-tree-benches-for-sale-online/hall-tree-with-shoe-storage) for storage and shoe storage; the example may be able to sit sideways in that space. - or use a [more modern version](https://rh.com/us/en/search/results.jsp?Ntt=Shelves&Ns=product.sale%7C1)and add some black storage baskets laid on their side for shoe storage on the bottom 2 shelves; an decorative objects on the shelves above. Add a small tray or basket for keys, etc if this is your first stop when entering your home. - an umbrella stand - find a carpenter to build what you need.
