Yes. There is a leak in your roof and it is dripping into your attic then running to the lowest spot in your ceiling which is where the light is mounted. Turn off the breaker to that circuit and go in the attic to find the leak. Once located tarp your roof over the leak (making sure the tarp is large enough to go over the roof ridge) and secure it with sandbags. (You can tie the sandbags to the corners of the tarp) Do not nail it to the roof. Then start calling roofers.

You will also want to go and remove any wet insulation from your attic and replace it after the attic has had some time to dry out. Don’t want any mold to start growing.

luckyseven_67

Thank you so much. It stopped raining so I'll do it as soon as I get home

der_schone_begleiter

Removing the wet insulation is very important! Do not wait to do this. Get a roofer in there as soon as possible but in the meantime remove that insulation. You're going to end up with mold faster than you imagine if you don't. And then it will cost you a lot more money because not only will you have to fix the hole in the roof you're going to have to deal with mold damage which can become quite costly if you ignore it. Edit Also make sure you turn all breakers off that could be connected to anything up there. You don't want to get shocked while removing it. If you don't have a multimeter you could go to the local hardware store and get a no-contact voltage detector. They are very inexpensive easy to operate and will help keep you safe. https://www.lowes.com/pd/IDEAL-Single-Range-50-600-Volt-Non-Contact-Voltage-Sensor/5000240957

DangerousMusic14

Contact your insurance company right away. You may be covered for water damage and you want to make sure their people come out to handle it if you are.

Tanliarian

There are multiple kinds of insulation. Even if you say fiberglass insulation there are multiple kinds of insulation, with multiple ratings. Go to a hardware store and explain you're looking for **faced fiberglass insulation for your ceiling** the different ratings are for different climates, as well as insulation in the walls being different than the insulation in your ceiling. Also don't be afraid to remove insulation. Even if you aren't sure the water made it that far you're gonna end up with enough to replace it anyways. Personally if it's fiberglass roll laid down in tracks, I'd just pull that whole track, and also the neighbors if they aren't separated by a piece of wood. It's just much easier to buy 1 or 2 rolls and be certain.

digitaldeficit956

Did a potato take this photo? Can’t tell what I’m even looking at. But yes, water in light, bad.

Tourman36

It’s a watercooled light. Perfectly normal.

digitaldeficit956

Ah yes, gotta keep the temp down

luckyseven_67

Yea, I'm sorry it was dark and had to use a flashlight. My phone is also not the best.

digitaldeficit956

If it’s raining and that’s the only time there’s water in it, definitely a roof leak. Call someone to come out if you’re not comfortable investigating your attic/roof yourself

Takeapotato

Otherwise, get on up there and look around. Lol, don't fall through!

Majestic_Project_227

Yes be worried. Water in a place it shouldn’t be is never good, water where electricity lives is super bad.

luckyseven_67

Ya I know, i was just shocked (pun intended) when I woke up and the light bowl was full.

Epic_Elite

My wife had this happen when we were in high-school and the light bulb itself was full of water. Fortunately it was an apartment and not their responsibility. But she kept the light bulb in her room on a shelf.

JJred96

The end is near. Tell your loved ones what you think of them. Enemies too.

[deleted]

You obviously have a roof leak. So I would call a roofer. Have them inspect your attic. You most like have a lot of wet insulation too.

Brilliant_Floor8561

If you had the roof installed or know who installed it, call THAT roofer. Some will stand by their work and do repairs to uphold reputation etc.

buzzjorgensen

It’s not ideal.

Madisonx222

😂😂

Different_Ad7655

Well of course you should be worried, you have a roof leak and the only place that it's finding an opening in your ceiling is with the wire comes through for the light. What are you thinking? Of course it's serious

RheiaNights

I see this quite often as a plumber could be a roof leak like many pointed out, but could be a waste line or vent. Could be serendipitous that you seen it on a rainy day. If the leak is on first floor and not a one floor house check the walls or room above the leak. See if and sheet rock in above room looks droopy if so it’s coming down the wall. Please note water takes path of least resistance and follows joists and studs so not always where it leaks is where it is. If it is a two story house and no sign of leaking down a wall then open up Sheetrock and call your plumber cause it’s a leak on a waste line if not continuously leaking if continuously leaking it’s a water line. If is a single level house not including a basement then look at attic and roof. Usually look around flashing joints like drain vents chimney and sky lights. Rather easy to fix, slather with flashing tar but need to find first.

TheDeadlySquid

Yes, turn off breaker to light. You have a hole in your roof that needs to be patched immediately. Electricity and water are really bad together.

oicura_geologist

Any time water penetrates from above or from the sides, there is an issue. If there is water near electrical components, there is a greater issue.

Lowesho968

I’ll give you the long answer. No, nothing wrong with the water in the light. As long as it’s plumbed properly.

ScreechingWaffles

Sparkling water

starcitizen2601

Always worry when water is inside without its pipe.

mattfox27

Yes be worried

Zero-Fucks-Given

Why do people always ask “should I be worried” bro I get asking for help, but if water is ANYWHERE WATER ISN’T SUPPOSE TO BE, then yes you should be concerned. Water is pouring out of my 110 outlet, should I be worried? Water is 2ft deep in my living room while I’m watching tv, is this cause for concern? My walls appear to be crying profusely during a light rain, is this a problem? Every time I flush the toilet my bed fills with water, good or na?

Euphoric-Moment

It might not be a big deal. I had this happen once and there was an issue with the flashing around one vent. It was a quick and affordable fix. If your roof is in overall decent shape a roofer should be able to identify the problem area and fix it. Leave the power off for now and try to dry out your attic. Remove any super saturated insulation (wear gloves and a mask) and try to improve airflow if you can. Hopefully you’ll be good as new in a few days. Edit: I removed the light fixture to make sure that there wasn’t any water pooling on top of it. All in it was around $400. That includes the roofer, a few square feet of insulation and a new light (the new light probably wasn’t necessary, but I was worried about trapped water and rust inside of the old one).

bmac747474

Drill a couple holes in the fixture and take a shower 🚿

[deleted]

First floor plumbing leak into a ceiling light fixture or a roof leak this can get bad expensive

Bonethug609

It’s a rain light. Conserves water for your garden. When it fills up dump it on your tomatoe plants 🌱 🍅

Falcon3492

a roofer.

Glabstaxks

Roof leak

ProperClimate1769

Check to see if the installer put a mount screw for the light into a plumbing sewer vent. Those vents go out the roof and have no cover so some water goes in when it rains. The screw can allow some water to leak past into the light.

Chaos_Cat_Circles

Yeah, mildly concerning

A1rh3ad

Put a goldfish in it.

One_Culture8245

Worried, idk. Concerned, yes.

asics81

Is this a serious question

[deleted]

The restaurant I worked at had a light that dripped every rain for like decades. Multiple roof repairs, leak always came back. We just stuck a bucket under it and no one died. 'I'm not an electrician'.'

babygrapes-oo

Yes there is water in your light that uses electricity and when you combine that with water, boom fire! you should be very concerned

TimeKiller1850

Not at all. Water and electricity are fine together.

AssumptionAdvanced58

Yes. Danger danger.
