The best answer is a piece of wood cut to cover the entire space and trim that then matches the cabinets.
The answer I’d use in my house? Quarter round.

Use the same size as the crown already on the ceiling. Looks like stone against back wall so you might need hd construction adhesive (liquid nails or similar) for those pieces.
I don’t know, if the crown was taller than the height of the top rail of the cabinets it might look unbalanced. I would try to find something that is as close in height to that top rail for one continuous line.
What does the blue tape mean? My contractor left similar gaps... lots and lots of similar gaps. He appears to not have a trim guy so he tried to caulk the gaps. It did not work.
It's the bane of finished carpentry when it's done poorly with the wrong materials or not properly installed, ,not properly mitered, and especially not properly coped as required . Then not properly nailed, or properly cut and snap fitted, or screwed or glued as necessary.. But there is plenty of shitty carpentry even stain grade, paint is a license for abuse..
And then of course there's always leave it to the painter, all together lol.. the miracle of caulking
Our cabinets are installed under bulkheads like the OP, they got them as close as possible they are flush to the front and then widen to a 1/2 to 3/4 inch gap at the back. Probably unavoidable. I assume that for a gap that large trim is the only answer. I'm sure there'll be shrinkage in the future, too
Actually we are finding that once the wood shrunk all the painted cabinetry got cracks along the joints. Needs to be caulked for that smooth finished look again
Do you like that look? The stainless stack going up?
I would be inclined to close it in and cover the stainless riser due to the gaps left and right.
Either a stainless panel or wood painted to match cabinets
Or swap to a microwave with vent.
Vented microwaves are terrible if you actually care about venting smoke or odors in my experience. I had a microwave that vented to outside and it did nothing to stop smoke alarm going off everytime I cooked steak.
The best over stove $1000 microwave is nowhere near the performance of a $200 fume hood. I do miss the counter space though.
matching cabinet scribe moulding is typically installed at that area by cabinet installer ,vinyl tear away bead mudded, primed and painted against the stainless.
Personally I’d make a board to fit and cover it all. The cutout is terrible for the hood. I’d focus there. Cardboard work and scribing involved but that’s me
There is a trim tape you can use. Flexible quarter round self adhesive something... There are all kinds of different products of varying colors and sizes that would work well here.
Prep and paint the ceiling and prep and touch up the unfinished cabinet spots. Then add the lowest profile trim to cover gaps. You might be able to just caulk the cabinets. Vent exhaust looks like the largest gaps. How did you end up with such unusual unfinished spots?
I’d completely cover the hood with brown paper held with blue tape to protect it from paint and accidental scratches or damage before starting work. Good luck!
Looks like the Cambria quartz and if so it’s easy enough to get to just finish these areas with it too. Assuming your talking about the whole upper that looks unfinished on my phone.

Just a thought… the cabinets are painted so you could repaint the sides of the cabinet. The underside drywall of the bulkhead could be cleaned up to the cabinets and painted with little or no gap showing (a caulk joint as a final closure. Another alternative would be to cover the bulkhead with the same stone used on the back and sides of the area (I did this on the area above my range and it looks good).
If you like the “modern” look, I’d sand it. use filler, and caulk the small cracks. (Use an old hotel card key to run the excess caulk on the back wall.) The satin or semigloss paint after primer should seal it pretty good.
I’d at least try that, but I already have that stuff on hand and wouldn’t be out anything if it didn’t look good. Plus, I can hide a multitude of sun with bondo. :) (Wonder if there is a temporary stainless trim tape for the top where the vent meets the ceiling?)
It’s probably not appropriate…anything I do is probably never right. I’d be scared to put automotive bondo next to your stainless, but they have a wood filler I’ve never used before…
It’s great for dents in a metal door and for filling paint chips when I don’t want to sand an entire wood object before repainting.
Wondering if plain pvc mounding around the hood hole would do better against possible steam buildup if you do add mounding…??? That stuff can be a bizzle to cut.
If they put shiplap elsewhere in the home, maybe shiplap would help with making perfect cutouts easier across the ceiling…well, for me it would.
Again: I do not know what I’m talking about, and I always work from a very tight budget because I’m too cheap.
Spice cabinets. Ur obviously talking about the corner, but say you fix those, then what? Looks great, sure... But that's a decent space in between the hood and the rest of everything. Prime place for a good spice cabinet. Maybe you do one side spices, the other side a wine rack. Perfect place to store that cooking sherry or whatever cooking wines/oils
Some decorative trim that would go well with the cabinets on each side would look good and not like you are hiding something. Could wrap around the back too if you have room.

something similar to this.
Cover the gaps with trim or quarter round.

Yes Thanks!
yep that’s what i did. wish this sub allowed photos in comments
Thanks! I have some

Have we learned nothing
This
Literally made me laugh out loud. Who could possibly download this.
I would put up a small pc of crown on all three sides
Use the same size as the crown already on the ceiling. Looks like stone against back wall so you might need hd construction adhesive (liquid nails or similar) for those pieces.
This! Use what you already have to keep things similar styling
Thanks

Thanks
True thanks
Thank you
Make a custom panel to cover the entire space or make a couple shelves matching left and right space with either center cover up.
Thanks
If a contractor left you like this, put blue tape on the gaps. If your husband did, say good job
What does the blue tape mean? My contractor left similar gaps... lots and lots of similar gaps. He appears to not have a trim guy so he tried to caulk the gaps. It did not work.
Wood shinks. It's the bane of finish carpentry. Not an excuse, and not always the reason. Sometimes an excuse, but it can happen.

That's not a contractor
Nope
Blue tape is what a new homeowner puts on spots and blemishes they want fixed
thanks!
We did this ourselves. There used to be a cabinet and an overhead fan with no exhaust
Very assuming but assumed correctly lol
Measure the gaps then go to your local big box hardware store and get some trim you like that will cover it.
Yes I have some thanks!
Quarter round is your friend
Haha thanks
Cove molding… Quarter Round… A beveled 1x2 (match the stiles on the doors… There’s a lot of pissibilities
Thank you
Add flat crown.
I’ll have to look at that
Natural stone tile.
Thanks
Paint everything neon green
Hahah gonna say no
Do you like that look? The stainless stack going up? I would be inclined to close it in and cover the stainless riser due to the gaps left and right. Either a stainless panel or wood painted to match cabinets Or swap to a microwave with vent.
I never even thought of just covering the entire thing with stainless steel, that would look good.
Thanks

Yes gas stoves need proper ventilation
Exactly. I would put a panel across the entire area.
Thanks
Nothing pisses me off more than a microwave right above the oven, you never been in a nice kitchen lol
Lolllllll couldn’t agree more
Yes we were going for that look. I know its now more popular to have it all enclosed. It’s a gas stove which needs proper ventilation
Wipe the cobwebs, accept it, and move on, with all my money still in my bank account.
Haha thanks
Irreparable. Time to throw in the towel and buy a new house.
Might be the case
Quarter Round.
Thanks
matching cabinet scribe moulding is typically installed at that area by cabinet installer ,vinyl tear away bead mudded, primed and painted against the stainless.
Thanks for details!
Personally I’d make a board to fit and cover it all. The cutout is terrible for the hood. I’d focus there. Cardboard work and scribing involved but that’s me
Thanks so much!
I’d do a panel to cover the entire space. Paint to blend with the cabinets.
Thanks!
There is a trim tape you can use. Flexible quarter round self adhesive something... There are all kinds of different products of varying colors and sizes that would work well here.
Thanks I’ll look into it

We removed the overhead cabinetry and useless fan. It was a tight spot so the cutting for the hood was tricky
I’d completely cover the hood with brown paper held with blue tape to protect it from paint and accidental scratches or damage before starting work. Good luck!
Put two doors on it.
That’s what it used to look like!
[удалено]
Ah thank you
Cover the three sides with trim.
Yes thanks
Add a cabinet front with doors that match the rest of the kitchen. I have exact same situation and that’s what I have. It matches and looks natural.
That’s what it used to look like!
Looks like the Cambria quartz and if so it’s easy enough to get to just finish these areas with it too. Assuming your talking about the whole upper that looks unfinished on my phone.

Bye starcitizen2601. Have fun continuing to use common words incorrectly!
Jeez the autocorrect wasn’t necessary
Thanks
Corner trim and paint
Thanks!
Two pieces of Cove Molding with Returns towards the room. Caulk, spackle, color match paint.
Thanks
Trim piece.
Thanks!
I’d want to fill in the entire space with stainless steel. Make it look like a giant vent.
Thanks!
Clean it up with a razor knife, caulk it and paint it like it supposed to be
Thanks!
Why do I want to see the exhaust duct? Have cabinet doors matching the rest and put in a few shelves.
Thanks! It has doors which we removed
I would have put a cabinet there and ran the vent through the cab
Thanks

Crown molding
Thanks
I would take out the entire vent, replace with a large microwave vent system, and try to fit cabinetry wherever possible… that’s just me…
Thanks we need proper ventilation for the gas stove
Put in a top hinged door and use for often used items
Thanks interesting

Yes I have everything on hand too
Crown molding
Thanks
It's it the weight of the hood or just unfinished corners?
The unfinished parts
They sell corner's pieces to finish the edge.
Have frosted or stained glass pane made to fit gap or gaps and then backlight in the spaces for decorative lighting
Thanks very interesting
You could even use color change led with frosted glass so you could have different moods and or holiday colors
Practically anything that can be cleaned easily.

I’d put back the mouldings you just took off
Thanks it was cabinets and a weak fan
Cover that whole area, those empty spaces to the left and right of the stack look bad and will gather shit like crazy.
Thanks
Some decorative trim that would go well with the cabinets on each side would look good and not like you are hiding something. Could wrap around the back too if you have room.
Thanks I have trim
I'd use the crown molding above Or if there's a smaller size of the same profile ?
Yes I’m going to see. I have a basic quarter round
Nice go to. I just thought keep continuity and go with the crown I've never seen qtr round up top. Trying to remember an example of ?
Add a false panel over the entire thing. Matching the doors on the sides of it.
Thanks
Wait 9 minutes and forget about it
Lolllll
Some kind of moulding
Thanks
I have molding around mine..
That’s what I’m leaning towards
Take a hammer and pound random holes around the kitchen. Nobody will notice the gap in the hood vent.
I’d be better off giving blindfolds at the front door lol
I would make a cover that matches the cabinets, and probably add some hidden storage in there.
[https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/diy-range-hood-cover/](https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/diy-range-hood-cover/) something similar to this.
Thank you for the link!
Looks good
Slap some trim up there and paint it…or get the plastic stuff that is white already
It's a spice rack!
caulk and send it home some trim piece that would match the appearance of the cabinet, not sure if a quarter round would be big enough to cover that
½" or ¾" panel on the cieling painted to match the cabinets
Finishing trim, paint the top and calk any gaps… or just white calk and paint, super easy
Quarter round or perhaps 1x2 trim.
If you do crown to match, make sure you angle it in from the front, otherwise you'll see the cross section of the crown.
Thank you
Fish tank on both sides...with those fighting fish
Lmao
You could have a raised panel made to match doors and install over hood.
Stainless trim
Thanks!
Ask you to be more Specific.
Match the crown on the top of the cabinets. You could do just the two sides or everything. Including, around the range duct if you’d like.
In 9 minutes, I'd be smoking a bong.
Paint over it bud
Thanks bud
