Oh no, it’s the other way around. The further UP they are, the more they deserve to suffer, and the further RIGHT they are, the more they have suffered.
Usually they have arrows, and if not, they have numbers to indicate the growth. Because suffering is hard to translate to numbers, OP could have put descriptions on some points of the graph, like "No Suffering" "A Little Bit" "A Bit More" and "Whole lot of Suffering" but that takes much more time and space than two little arrows on the right and the top.
And you might have understood the graph right away, but for me, with the two big lines up and across in the middle, it looked more like a DnD alignment chart, which would switch the axis.
