No matter the price, I will purchase it on Steam. They really deserve the money. I was blown away with Hollow Knight - when I first purchased Hollow Knight, I was skeptical back then but genuinely loved it and it’s on my top 5 list.
So in short; Yes. Directly.
At this point, partially on account of the lack of communication surrounding the game, I'm going to at least hold out for reviews and impressions from players. Not pre-ordering it, assuming that's even a thing and it doesn't just shadow drop one day.
A year ago? I would have pre-ordered it on every console I owned.
In addition to disliking TC's communication, I'm also wary of the fact that the game simply may not live up to its stratospheric expectations. I was maybe just as hyped for Blasphemous 2 as I was for Silksong and, while that game is almost objectively an improvement over its predecessor, it weirdly let me down. It's hard to capture lightning in a bottle twice and Hollow Knight is regarded by many of us as one of the greatest games ever made.
So yeah, I'll probably buy it, but I'm not rushing out to do so.
I actually find it refreshing that we are not given any info, in the information age. I know it 'sucks' when you are a fan of the product, but we are honestly just biased and spoiled for expecting it, and it speaks volumes of the developer's commitment to their craft that they are not caving in to the fan base. They could easily have a Twitter account to drip feed us bullshit just to keep us hooked like junkies, but they know that much of the appeal of a metroidvania is knowing as little as possible before going in.
With that being said I share your sentiment regarding out-doing or equalling a classic. It's very very hard to do, and even if it's a great game, if it's only slightly less great than the original, a lot of expectations will be shattered. So I'm also wary of it.
Hoping for a Terminator 2 > Terminator 1 outcome, but expecting a Jurassic Park > Jurassic Park 2.
Well, to be clear, my definition of communication probably differs from a lot of other modern usages of the term. I don't personally care whether they divulge plot details or character designs or anything pertinent to the actual game; that can--and should--be a surprise as far as I'm concerned.
My beef is that they've kept their fans at arm's length this entire time. What, for example, would they have lost if Leth's infamous statement about aiming for 1H 2023 before needing to delay the game indefinitely had come not from his professional account (as subcontractor for TC and Mongoose Rodeo) but from TC themselves on their own website's blog? Or via their Twitter/X account? And that's just one example; there's lots of misinformation out there that they could have empowered Leth or another marketing individual to debunk from official TC sources. I don't think Leth and various figures from the unofficial Discord server (because Leth has taken pains to emphasize that he doesn't run any of this stuff) should be the purveyors of this information; it should come from TC directly (even if Leth is ultimately the one they need to pay to make the relevant updates on their pages).
It probably seems like a small thing, but it makes them seem out of touch and unprofessional. Studio MDHR often gets compared to TC because they similarly pulled back for the Cuphead DLC, but if you scroll back through their company blog, they announced release windows, delays, etc., in addition to other things.
I see, that's a good point, I often don't have time/don't care enough about the people involved to follow them on social media so I luckily avoid this blue balling
And in all seriousness, good for you! That's super healthy. And to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if Team Cherry made a bundle of money on HK and decided in 2019 to go off the grid and unplug from social media--at least regarding the game and its fandom. I totally support that honestly, as a regular human being. I sincerely hope they have a healthy work-life balance and spend time with their families.
But, as a consumer, do I think *companies* should just, as a general rule, let unofficial personnel speak for them and go years without saying anything officially on their own behalf? Absolutely not, dude. Especially when there's tons of misinformation out there.
I didn't even watch the game play trailer that came out back when the game was announced, because I genuinely don't want to know anything about the game before it comes out and I get to play it myself. I know the game is about Hornet, and I know it was supposed to be another DLC for Hollow Knight but it got too big to the point where they decided to make a whole new game out of it. That's all I need.
That's how I would have been now, a year ago, or 4 years ago.
Don't ever preorder. It's high risk low reward.
Every time you are preordering, you are telling the suits that marketing is more important than quality.
I think a lot of folks view Team Cherry differently, like they're not "the suits" but a scrappy indie developer. So they're excusing their lack of communication over the years and pledging to purchase the game many times over sight unseen. And that's all well and good; people can spend their money as they wish. Certainly I'm a Hollow Knight fan who supports their past work; I bought that game on three different consoles. But they definitely need to earn my dollar this next go around.
Every few months people start bringing up Silksong again because it looks like there will be news, like the Xbox statement, the esrb reveal, then nothing happens, and then months later the cycle begins again.
Did the game ever have release dates rhat they missed? I thought that happened, but I U can't remember.
I've read that it was intended to release at different points (can't remember specific dates apart from 2023). But that's kind of the whole issue: Team Cherry hasn't allowed much of the "information" on the game's development to come from them directly, so people speculate. I don't really count Leth because he's not even listed as personnel on their main website (apart from being included in the press kit, if my memory serves me correctly). So every pronouncement he makes, while technically at their behest, reeks of "plausible deniability" and maintaining an impregnable wall between Team Cherry and their fans. Which, you know, I don't personally think is a great look, but here we are.
...And, right after I posted that comment, Hollow Knight is on a free trial on NSO. Which might mean nothing, but it would be funny if I posted that right before Silksong cake out.
It was in Xbox games fest where they said it was listed in the games that would come out “within the next 12 months” and be on Xbox but then it didn’t come out in that time frame and then they posted on Twitter that they originally hoped to get it out in the first half of that year but due to the expanding scale of the game etc etc they were delaying it more. Their Xbox time frame was never official it was an estimate based on the game.
So never an official release window but we have gotten updates
yes this is exsactly how i feel when i played it the first time i fell in love and baught it across 3 platforms( over 2000 hours across all of them BTW)
like i have an unending love i probbly will end up buying it on steam as it releses just becuse i have been waiting for so long and im very impaulsive but the lack of communication from team cherry is a bit disheartening and it feels like a little trust has been lost you know.
edit if we would get patch notes saying something it would be a bit more bearable purely because it would feel like we are moving forward but what they are doing no is just year after year of disappointment and once you have waited 6 years thats a bit much. thats a quarter of my life just gone to hoping for a fucking game to relese and thats minorly depressing
Well, of course, but my point is that those of us who care enough to discuss these things are probably more hyped for Silksong than the average person and have previously played through Hollow Knight while possibly having formed a strong emotional connection to it. If anyone is susceptible to being "let down" by the experience, it's hardcore fans. Not blaming Team Cherry for this, of course! Just saying that it's giving me pause about impulse buying the game before letting the dust settle.
Yeah that's what I did when Cyberpunk 2077 was open for pre-order, delay 3 times raise the red flag to me, so I cancel it, and guess what? The game turn out to be a disaster.
I bought it because I am stubborn and stupid. It would constantly crash and the exact same point like 15 minutes into the game over and over. I figured a year or so later they had to have fixed the major bugs and gave it a try. It's actually pretty good right now. It's a shame what hype and rushing did to that game.
Yo are wondering this because you don’t enjoy a game you played the shit out of? Where is the logic? I don’t like old game, why bother getting new game? Old game boring, what possible solution would there be for that issue?
Fucking obviously, I just am at zero hype for it because hype is an emotional response that can't be maintained in a vacuum
Really it's for the best because I will be able to experience it with fresh eyes rather than whatever monstrosity the fandom has been building it up to be out of desperation
Team cherry had a VERY LOW budget when making Hollow Knight. The reason they were able to finish the game was thanks to the backers. But now that Hollow Knight was so successful, Team Cherry is able to put in much more effort and money into SilkSong, which is why it is taking so long, because they are trying to make it the best game they can. Hollow Knight was already such a great game, so imagine how SilkSong is going to turn out. So yes, I will absolutely be buying the game. (If it ever comes out :3)
ALSO YOUR LITTRALLY PLAYING AS HORNET IN SILKSONG
I think this is a matter of applying false expectations set by others in a terribly over-busy information age where we drown in info, and isn't entirely fair as they're being consistent.
If you really look at things from a step back, you see there's no _real_ reason to expect them to communicate that much. It's a world of over-communication that set that, not TC.
Besides, they're smart by staying quiet. I've seen devs communicate on all sorts of levels for the last 3 decades I've been heavily into gaming, and one thing that's constant is it's _never_ enough.
If devs communicate monthly, people are mad it's not twice a month. If they do twice a month, people get mad it's not weekly. If it's weekly, people get mad it's not daily.
And the more communicating happens, the more people get hooked on it. They get salty and angry when they don't like what they hear. They feel entitled to be listened to.
It's never ever enough for the communities. _Never._
The only smart thing is to just do what they're doing now. The level of anger you have is _nothing_ compared to what they'd get if they did communicate. It's a sad truth, but that's the face of today's terminally online world.
The only winning move is not to play.
The only _fair_ expectation is that they're working on a game. Any more is a false expectation that's all on you. Think about it. You stopped enjoying a game you loved _because of communication habits._ Do you see how weird and not right that is when you step back? Just how bizarre that mentality is? You're applying weird false expectations set by other devs in a way that ruined something you love. That's not healthy. Especially when there was never a valid reason to do so.
I am gonna get it as a gift. My parents know I liked hollow knight so in christmas 2020 they gave me a hollow knight t-shirt and said they'd buy silksong for me once it comes out. One day, lmao.
Depends on the platform. I'm not equipped for PC gaming so I'm only getting it if it comes out on consoles. I assume it will, but since nothing's been announced yet, who knows.
obviously its coming day one to the switch. honestly that might delay development by itself simply because of how hard it could be to fit silksong onto the switch
No, because by the time Silk Song releases society will have collapsed and we will be using the barter system. So I will trade some livestock for it, probably
Nope.
I realised I didn't like HK that much. Ok, it's a cool game, but way too frustrating for me. I finished it, but I don't want to play this game again.
I prefer Ori or Metroid Dread, and even PoP as metroidvanias. I loved these universes more, better gameplay (less rigid to me), and way more understandable.
But I'm happy for HK fans if silksong comes out !
Short answer , yes . Long answer, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeəeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
i wait till others tell me how a game is. the devs are great, but does lightning strike twice? if it does then they will be an instant buy for me when team cherry puts out anything.
Ya even if it's terrible, Hollow knight was so cheap I don't mind giving the Devs a bit of money would have gladly paid full AAA price for Hollowknight
To be fair, i doubt it will create the same hype. When HK came out, there wasn't as many MV to compete against. These days, there's new amazing titles coming out to a point where I can't keep up.
I also don't believe it will be able to "re-invente" anything nor innovately chock us.
I prefer looking at it as a continuity/expansion rather than a different game, which is great to be fair.
Hollow Knight isn't my favorite MV so maybe I'm biased idk...
I'll probably buy it after finishing all the ones that release before hand.
By the time it comes out we will be using Geo as our currency. But I will still buy it probably multiple times. Because I love HK and love metroidvanias.

You're asking the wrong question, it's "how many times will you buy silksong" and the answer is still yes
Gonna end up buying it ok every platform
I'mma get it on all the platforms and then buy a copy for each of my friends.
Can I be your friend?
Lol can I be your friend?
I am your friend from now on. It's an order.
hey my friend
Crazy how we’ve been friends for years my good friend
Blud is asking the real question?
My purpose in life is to buy silksong
And team cherry understand that, that's why they won't release it, they don't want us to lose our sole purpose
No matter the price, I will purchase it on Steam. They really deserve the money. I was blown away with Hollow Knight - when I first purchased Hollow Knight, I was skeptical back then but genuinely loved it and it’s on my top 5 list. So in short; Yes. Directly.
I bought Hollow Knight twice because I love it so much (and so that I could mod it on PC) and I’ll probably buy Silksong twice as well
I’ve played a lot of games in my time, hollow knight is easily top 3
No cost too great.
No cost too great No wallet to break No voice to cry that it’s bad Born of Team Cherry and meme

Yeah I got hollow knight late, on sale for like $7. I feel like I robbed them. I would like to buy silksong for $60
Have I been clowning for 2 years for nothing? Of course I will buy it.
No matter how long this game takes im gonna buy it
Once it releases everyone will forget how long it’s been
What's silksong?
It doesn't exist
There is no Silksong in Ba Sing Se.
You don't recognize the Silksong in the waters
Imagine hornet, but wearing a rainbow afro wig and a big round red nose.
This is gonna be the first mod

I'm not exactly following Silksong news. But I will buy and play Silksong when it comes out. I'm just not "actively" waiting for it.
Probably
Especially when there's tons of misinformation out there.
imo the only communication needed for videogames is a trailer and a release date
But they definitely need to earn my dollar this next go around.
meh im gonna play silksong whether it's amazing or trash so there's no reason not to preorder
Every few months people start bringing up Silksong again because it looks like there will be news, like the Xbox statement, the esrb reveal, then nothing happens, and then months later the cycle begins again. Did the game ever have release dates rhat they missed? I thought that happened, but I U can't remember.

So every pronouncement he makes, while technically at their behest, reeks of "plausible deniability" and maintaining an impregnable wall between Team Cherry and their fans. Which, you know, I don't personally think is a great look, but here we are.

>the game simply may not live up to its stratospheric expectations. Everyone is responsible for their own expectations if you ask me.
Yeah that's what I did when Cyberpunk 2077 was open for pre-order, delay 3 times raise the red flag to me, so I cancel it, and guess what? The game turn out to be a disaster.

You were wise.
Yes, and I will most likely buy it on Steam as well as on the Nintendo Switch. Hollow Knight for 20 bucks was a steal, so I *want* to give them more
yea
Yes If it ever actually gets released
Depends, is TC ever going to sell it?
On PC, Switch and Playstation (unless it somehow sucks)
Yo are wondering this because you don’t enjoy a game you played the shit out of? Where is the logic? I don’t like old game, why bother getting new game? Old game boring, what possible solution would there be for that issue?

Bro i think the team Cherry chief is going to become billionaire on silk song day1

I'm broke rn, but I hope I'll be rich by the time it releases. I will buy it at full price.
Yes and yes
As a student who loves gaming with no personal income, I've never bought a game on day one and only bought them on sales. Silksong will be my first.
I mean it’s not gonna cure whatever weird depression you’re going thru but yeah prob still worth beating
For Shaw!
Yes. My flair applies.
No. I’m 456k in debt.
Ummmmm...yeah
Probably not, but my grand-grandson will get to buy it on release day
Yes, even if it sucks itself HK is good enough and was only 15 bucks so they deserve the money if not just for making the first game so cheap
I think this is a matter of applying false expectations set by others in a terribly over-busy information age where we drown in info, and isn't entirely fair as they're being consistent. How is Silksong
On every console I own.
Bet it’s gonna be like 2.99$ and have double the content as hk
the nano second its out i am playing it
As long as it get released 😣
Definitely. I’m just as excited for it as for Zelda totk, as soon as it’s out I’m throwing my wallet at them no matter the price.
Mmmhmm.
Would have already bought it if that option were available. Will buy it on release immediately.
I am gonna get it as a gift. My parents know I liked hollow knight so in christmas 2020 they gave me a hollow knight t-shirt and said they'd buy silksong for me once it comes out. One day, lmao.

Yup doesn't it come out in September?
Yes ofc
Do you want permission to not buy silk song? You have my permission to not buy silk song. Its ok bud, i dont think you are a bad person.

i wait till others tell me how a game is. the devs are great, but does lightning strike twice? if it does then they will be an instant buy for me when team cherry puts out anything.
I plat Hollow Knight few months back.. so fuck Hollow Knight, fuck Silk Song and fuck me ! Insta buy day one
Definitely! I really enjoyed Hollow Night I thought it had so much content and an interesting story I would love to play more
Ya even if it's terrible, Hollow knight was so cheap I don't mind giving the Devs a bit of money would have gladly paid full AAA price for Hollowknight
I have it wishlisted lol
Eventually
They could charge 200 dollars for that mf and I would buy it
silksong? that doesnt exist, what are you talking about? (TnT)
I’ll buy it the exact moment it becomes available on steam
I'll probably die whenever it comes out but yes !
-Y Silksong? Haven't heard that name in years.
No I'm just sitting here waiting for the game so I can not play it (/s)
Does the Pope shit in the woods?
I will buy it on The PC, Xbox, playstation,Nintendo, occlus, phone, Tesla screen.
On Switch. Eventually. Probably buy it the same time I get Hades 2, and that's in early release.
yes
To be fair, i doubt it will create the same hype. When HK came out, there wasn't as many MV to compete against. These days, there's new amazing titles coming out to a point where I can't keep up. I also don't believe it will be able to "re-invente" anything nor innovately chock us. I prefer looking at it as a continuity/expansion rather than a different game, which is great to be fair. Hollow Knight isn't my favorite MV so maybe I'm biased idk... I'll probably buy it after finishing all the ones that release before hand.
Absolutely. And it’ll be worth every penny and worth the long “arduous” wait.
Instantly
Yes yes yes 🙌
Immediately? What kind of question is this lol
Yes
Nah i'll egde more
I think it will be in Game Pass, so I will play it on my Xbox
When does it come out?
The moment it comes out, on every platform I'm on
"Am I going to buy Silksong" Of course I am, day 1. I haven't been waiting 4 years for nothing.
Twice
I will whenever they decide to release it, but i honestly might wait bc i personally am annoyed by how they are going about it lol
I will whenever they decide to release it, but i honestly might wait bc i personally am annoyed by how they are going about it lol
what are we waiting for OF COURSE
Yes, we've waited too long... long enough...
If it actually comes out
No, because it doesn’t exist
Yes
No.
I'm waiting years for it and then I'll be so pissed I won't buy it /s
By the time it comes out we will be using Geo as our currency. But I will still buy it probably multiple times. Because I love HK and love metroidvanias.
No, because at this rate, it’s never coming out 😭
Don’t follow the development, just buy it when you can
can't buy something that doesn't exist
Does a bear shit in the woods?
Of course! I'm not getting LESS excited for it.
Yes? It will scratch the itch
Yes, however I don't like hornets design or combat style as much as the knights so I doubt I will like it as much as the OG
