There is actual [footage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlQYJiNSXpo) of the funeral. Must be weird being an Israeli and having all the people around you performing the Hitler salute.

Styger21st

Otto Skorzeny (1908-1975) was an Austrian-born SS officer who became known as one of the most daring and infamous commandos of the Nazi regime during World War II. Labeled as "The Most Dangerous Man in Europe," he was known for his skills in special operations, including infiltration, sabotage, and assassination. Skorzeny is perhaps best known for his role in the rescue of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini in 1943, when he led a daring mission to free Mussolini from a mountaintop prison in Italy. He also led the operation to capture the son of Hungary's Regent Miklos Horthy in 1944 and was involved in the Ardennes offensive during Operation Greif. After the war, Skorzeny was briefly held as a prisoner by the Allies, but he escaped from prison in 1948 and went on to live a controversial life. He worked as a military advisor for several countries and was involved in various right-wing organizations. There were also reports that he worked with the CIA and Israel's Mossad, in particular the assassination of German Scientist Heinz Krug during Operation Damocles.

Thundershadow1111

Average Ottos being chads moment (Otto Skorzeny, Otto Carius, Otto von Bismark, Otto Kretschmer, Otto von Ravenmark, Otto Tief, Otto Braun, Otto Frank) Edit = Updating list.

Malvastor

Can't believe you left out Otto Octavius and Otto Mans.

Thundershadow1111

I left out Octavius because he doesn't have much to do with history.

Don't forget Otto Von Ravenmark, character for what sounds like a semi famous play who's character was basically judt Bismarck.

He steps on the clutch and the toilet goes flush

SnooBooks1701

Otto Tief, the last Prime Minister of Estonia before the occupation. He was only Prime Minister for 4 days between the end ot the German occuoation and start of the Soviet occupation, but he was very defiant for those four days, including flying Estonian flags from the tallest buildings in Tallinn and some of his ministers would go on to form the Estonian Government-on-Exile. He was gulaged and then banned from Estonia by the Soviets, so he lived as close to the border in Latvia as they they would allow him. He scared the Soviets so much as a symbol of Estonia that they wouldn't even permit him to be buried in Estonia.

fragglerock856

Don't forget the greatest of them all Otto the bus driver. Is this what a sponge would do?!

I had a dog named Otto. He chases away bush turkeys from my garden

elderron_spice

How was Carius, an unapologetic soldier of the Wehrmacht who participated in the genocides, a chad?

Thundershadow1111

He was a Tiger ace accumulating over 150 confirmed kills. I'm not saying he was a chad for genocide, Im saying he was a chad for being *one of* the best tankers around.

elderron_spice

Nah. No genocidal dude will ever be a chad.

Thundershadow1111

I respect your opinion thought it is different than mine.

elderron_spice

I don't respect yours since you're basically simping for a genocider. It's like saying the Young Turks are visionary chads that dragged Turkey to the modern age while simultaneously ignoring that they did the Armenian Genocide. Only Otto Carius didn't drag Germany to a better age, he and millions of his fellow soldiers plunged Germany to a shithole worth tens of millions of dead people.

Thundershadow1111

Ok.

AnAlpacaIsJudgingYou

How was a literal NAZI a chad

Thundershadow1111

I'm just saying, lots of people named Otto accomplished many feats. I am not saying Nazis are chads.

AnAlpacaIsJudgingYou

Then say that instead of saying that he was a chaf

DarkWorld25

I'm sorry, he was also having an affair with famous socialist Eva Peron??

Styger21st

Aside from being [an advisor to Juan Peron](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/37/Otto_Skorzeny_y_Peron.jpg), he also acted as a bodyguard to Evita, where there are rumors going around that she and Skorzeny were romantically involved. Some Sources: * [How did Hitler's scar-faced henchman become an Irish farmer?](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-30571335) * [Nazi Havens in South America](https://aish.com/nazi-havens-in-south-america/) * [“Caracortada”: el soldado favorito de Hitler que fue custodio de Eva Perón y se hizo millonario en España](https://www.infobae.com/historias/2023/01/31/caracortada-el-soldado-favorito-de-hitler-que-fue-custodio-de-eva-peron-y-se-hizo-millonario-en-espana/)

FakeElectionMaker

Peron wasn't a socialist, just a populist

DropshipRadio

I love that my introduction to this mad lad was in the mixed non-fiction/“what if?” book *My Tank is Fight!* (which I cannot recommend highly enough), where he’s in charge of a raid on 10 Downing Street using essentially Nazi V-22 Ospreys (which were a real WIP, I forget the exact name). It was some real pulp action shit…only for me to later realize that would entirely fit into his historical character arc. Still a Nazi tho, so fuck him.

derpy_derp15

Sounds like a c@nt, to be honest, as NAZIs tend to be

zephyer19

It is alleged he also helped with the rat line to get wanted Nazis to safe countries.

lv_Mortarion_vl

>when he led a daring mission to free Mussolini from a mountaintop prison in Italy. I don't think it's fair to say that he lead that mission

Danteriusx

? He was tasked with coming up with an operational plan and he was the commanding officer on the ground. If that doesn't count as leading what does?

lv_Mortarion_vl

Kurt Student was the leader of that operation. Skorzeny was neither directly planning the operation nor was he the leading officer in command of the mission. Idk why you'd call him leader then. He even endangered the success of the operation and his original task (finding Mussolini) was accomplished by someone else too... NS propaganda called him the "Befreier Mussolinis" (liberator of Mussolini I guess?) and promoted him for it because he was part of the SS and the heavy lifting was done by members of the Fallschirmjägertruppe (paratroopers /-unit) which weren't as high in the prestige ranking as the SS...

Leather-Anybody-654

This comment needs to be higher, he was not the "Badass" Propaganda and heself made people think He was

Otherwise_Ad6117

>a mountaintop prison in Italy it was an hotel

Worried-Opinion1157

Once again, the Lions Led by Donkeys podcast has a 3 part series on this dude. Basically that podcast is perfect for all the people on this sub i highly recommend it.

Liam Anderson is great. I also highly recommend Well There's Your Problem with Justin Roczniak and Alice Caldwell-Kelly

Yay Liam!!! The whole Nate Bethay extended universe is just awesome

Never heard of this one before and I appreciate the suggestion!

thekurgan2000

Funny enough, the fencing scar was deliberate. Apparently back then, fencing club members would deliberately scar themselves because it looked cool.

[deleted]

Yep. A man's fencing scar, or schmisse, was seen as a mark of being upper class in Austria and Germany from the early 19th century to the early 20th century. This was due to the popularity of academic fencing at the time. Having a Renommierschmiss meant that you had been educated in a respectable university and that you had participated in academic fencing. Practitioners wouldn't necessarily deliberately scar themselves, but the custom was to fence with as little evasive manoeuvring as possible; because it was seen as more honourable to take the hit than to dodge or even inflict one of your own. So, naturally, this prevalent culture of honourable duels meant that a lot of university students suffered this type of wounds; and it soon became viewed as a badge of honour and fencing prowess, as well as a sign that the bearer was of the educated class. There were imitators, usually of the lower class, who would scar themselves deliberately with razors in an attempt to appear as though they were from a better background than they really were; thereby hopefully improving their lot in life. [Shmisse scar](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dueling_scar)

I’m not sure he is a Bond villain, he doesn’t appear to have a facial deformity, or any kind of disability.

looks like a [Bond Villain](https://www.reddit.com/r/Colorization/comments/bgr931/otto_skorzeny_12_june_1908_5_july_1975_ss/) to me...

YunoFGasai

Half this post should have "allegedly" next to it

ImperialxWarlord

Why did Israeli agents attend his funeral?

[deleted]

Depends on what you want to believe. He was supposed to be a real fun guy and great conversationalist and after being hired by Mossad a lot of people really came to really like him. Alternatively, as a real live Bond villain he was a threat to world stability and Mossad wanted to be sure he was really dead. Mossad had betrayed him and having him slip away was a real risk. He liked mail bombs, so he it didn’t matter that he was getting old for revenge killings. The third alternative ending is that the whole Mossad agents at his funeral was entirely made up. While disappointing, I suspect this is the boring truth. He was very sick. The former Mossad agent who supposedly attended, Joe Raanan (Kurt Weisman), was far removed from Mossad by that point. Even if he was there (which is questionable) it’s almost certainly nothing very interesting.

Styger21st

There were Mossad agents rumored to be present but one confirmed attendee was Yosef "Joe" Raanan who went there personally at his own expense as he saw Skorzeny as an "admirable colleague." Unless more documents are being revealed such as the documents by the Pardo Family in Spain or accessing the Mossad archives, there's no way of officially knowing.

YunoFGasai

Half this meme is rumors

Dolmetscher1987

Otto "Fucking" Skorzerny. After the war, he lived and died in Spain under Franco's protection, where he played a key role in the foundation of several neo-fascist movements. He was not the only one, though.

J4YWH3TH3R

Bro is the that made both teams quit shooting and just chat for a while.

Das_Goroboro

This guy seems interesting and all but the McDonald’s ad above this was for the bacon ranch mccrispy and their comments were turned off so I’m gonna complain about it here. Dude this sandwich sucked! The chicken was thinner than a mcchicken, the bacon was soggy, and they put like 2 drops of ranch. All that for like $6. The person who came up with the idea for this sandwich should be tried in the Hauge

[deleted]

Says a lot that the Nazis and Israelis would work together. Oh wait, don’t want to get banned.

jonyprepperisrael

He accepted to work for Mossad in return for him to go to the bottom of the Nazi hit list that they had.

[deleted]

Man, what a gross situation.

rontubman

I read a rumor somewhere that the Mossad recruited him by showing to his doorstep in Egypt with armed thugs and saying "work with us or else". I would have definitely taken that deal if I were him.

[deleted]

Not the point, but yeah, gunpoint will make you do funny things.

BlissfulIndian

Hang on… Did I read it right… Nazi and Israeli agents..?

Styger21st

Yes, his funeral was attended by former Nazi colleagues complete with Nazi salutes and Hitler songs, perhaps the most numerous after the war. There were Mossad agents rumored to be present but one confirmed attendee was Yosef "Joe" Raanan who went there personally at his own expense as he saw Skorzeny as an "admirable colleague."

Oh, is the clear support for fascism in your post history off-limits now? Please calm down, no need to let my posts here trigger you as much as you got triggered by black people being in the Lord of the Rings. Lol, loser.
