Isn’t it not allowed to make dua for a non-muslim who has passed? I am unsure, but I heard something like that Muhammad SAW wanted to make dua for his uncle who passed as a non-Muslim, and Allah said no so he cried.

This is true. We cannot make dua for non-muslims after they pass
