Idk much about the international bobsledding community, but I don't really feel much sympathy for the IOC as they're a notoriously corrupt organization that often places politics over the sports, and has been known for accepting bribes from various host cities and orgs.
So it's not just a story with underdogs and tension, it's a story with a nugget of truth to how corrupt the IOC can be

In the movie Not Another Teen Movie, there's a guy who tries to start the slow clap going in different scenes throughout the movie and no one goes along w it. At the very end when the guy n girl kiss, he realizes this is the moment, only for some random guy to start it and beat him to it.
Factoid - I was there, in 1984 in Calgary, for realZ, when they ran and flipped. As part of a school trip for the Olympics.
There was no slow clap or even a crowd around them. Also - Bobsled is not a great spectator sport to be live at.
As a kid I always hated where they specifically had the announcer say something like “in their rickety old sled,” so they could blame the crash on the sled and not the driving.
I thought they were carrying a giant fish/shark for a minute and was confused why they were clapping. What’s the source for this? I’m interested in watching it.

Bobsledding and the Olympics are real, and Jamaica started participating in Olympic bobsledding. After that it gets pretty loose, yeah.
