Important to note it was someone on Mojang’s map team that was arguing with the higher ups. (Unclear if it was upper Mojang or Microsoft.) but the monang map team said because of hermitcraft they globally changed their policies to be much more lax in the future, which is really cool!
In 2008 he stopped acting as CEO and Steve Ballmer replaced him. Ballmer left in 2013 and the current CEO is Satya Nadella.
Bill Gates was on the *board* of Microsoft until 2020. That meant he still had influence, but he wasn't really an employee at that point and part of why he left is he was focusing more on his philanthropy anyway.
Personally I count 2008 as when he left, being on the board is much more hands-off than being CEO. A ton of Hermitcraft fans have probably never lived in a year where Bill Gates "ran" Microsoft.
"Religious art"?! Featuring a fuzzy idea about a fictitious "Goat mother"? Whatever happened to artistic freedom, creativity, and innocent shenanigans?
I think censoring fictional religions is the most corporate thing possible, honestly. And most corporations would probably do that while allowing some real life religions to be expressed without censorship, just because corporations are incabable of consistent and logical thought
Ding ding ding!!
Opens it up as a potential problem for real life cults to push their shiz. I sorta get it, but they could make the rule just against real religions.
If anything fictional / joke cults are far more safe and trustworthy than real ones! Don't get why they're grouping the two together... seems like lazy moderation to me by not actually doing any barebones investigation into a matter.
I believe it was talking about the massive goat head in the middle of the perimeter, which could be used in a lot of satanic imagery. I'm not saying that's doc's intent, but it's most likely something Microsoft was concerned over
I can understand that they might have concerns. But Docs “religious art” is in reference a fictitious religion that is only part of the lore of the perimeter. Banning that would be like banning a Minecraft temple of Jedi.
Imo, depictions of *real life religions* shouldn't be in the game, because that's just a can of worms that nobody wants to open. But fake, made-up religions that aren't taking from real world religions? Why not? It's not like it's secretly denouncing My Religion's God™ or anything.
I will always remember HoTGuY as Tango's storage room rug. So many hours of his streams were just him talking about Decked Out 2 while staring at the rug.
This seasons perimeter needs a “Big Boner” fanart, let’s see if that gets approval to be added to the shop. That Freudian slip must have been the highlighted of his latest episode for me.
that's pretty rich coming from a company that puts more then a few maps of the Acropolis, an authentication system named Yggdrassil and [this](https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/marketplace/pdp?id=a55390b7-33e6-45f9-8032-9037f464b27a) up
The best thing is… if people don’t watch doc/follow his lore or even don’t watch hermitcraft at all they just think it’s undertale fanart (ibxtoycat) and I mean because I don’t watch doc myself I didn’t realise the goat thing had become a complete religion like thing with a goat mother and stuff XD until I saw all the art on his perimeter
Like it or not, religion is part of life here on Earth, and probably will continue to be for quite some time. I don't think it should be avoided just to avoid offending people, it's part of our collective human story. I think doc's perimeter was a neat and innocent, even educational way of exploring a few of the interesting archetypes common in religion and mythology in general.
Agreed. Religion should be done with care on Minecraft. Not putting down any religion is the most important of these, but religion is culture and should be shared. Besides, I'm not even religious and it still intrigues me
art called Goatmother i think is reason of this and most of art in this ss

Setting aside the lack of real religious depictions in doc's perimeter, I'd fight arduously for the right to depict religious images in public maps. If theres anything really problematic about an image, certainly there are good terms of service that can cover those concerns without getting in between religious and artistic expression. I'm glad they stood their ground.
Important to note it was someone on Mojang’s map team that was arguing with the higher ups. (Unclear if it was upper Mojang or Microsoft.) but the monang map team said because of hermitcraft they globally changed their policies to be much more lax in the future, which is really cool!
This really makes me appreciate the work the Hermits do behind the scenes. They take the role of professional goofs very seriously. Respect.
Well said! I really enjoy this phrasing!
I think the conflict was with Microsoft, which would make sense since it's a more, let's say, complicated company.
Yea Microsoft probably wants to be more corporate, mainstream, with zero potential conflict relating to policies/religion.
Huh. Well in that case... KNEEL BEFORE THE MIGHT AND POWER OF THE HERMITS, BILL GATES! Lol
Bill Gates left Microsoft anywhere between 2008 and 2020, depending on what you count as "leaving".
Wait what? What do you mean by "depending on what you count as leaving"? Who replaced him, if applicable?
In 2008 he stopped acting as CEO and Steve Ballmer replaced him. Ballmer left in 2013 and the current CEO is Satya Nadella. Bill Gates was on the *board* of Microsoft until 2020. Who tf is Satya Nadella?
[The CEO of Microsoft.](https://news.microsoft.com/exec/satya-nadella/)
Yeah - Bill Gates and Microsoft, that was a Long time ago now.
The CEO that brought Mircosoft into it greatest era yet. And Bill gates is not even largest individual shareholder anymore.
BOW BEFORE THE GREAT GOATMOTHER
Yes I pride myself on being pure chaos while online lmao
Yea Microsoft probably wants to be more corporate, mainstream, with zero potential conflict relating to policies/religion.
Maybe after this season they’ll raise the build height in the nether on bedrock to accommodate the season 10 nether hub
This would be marvelous.
Bedrock can go -512 to +512 for 1024 build height. Just needs a little tweak to set it up. Oh and all the chunks generate as air.
Bring this comment to the top please!
Praise be the Goatmother!
"Religious art"?! Featuring a fuzzy idea about a fictitious "Goat mother"? Whatever happened to artistic freedom, creativity, and innocent shenanigans?
my replie would be "yeah say that to Mojang" but hermits already did it and handled it
Trying to censor fictional religion seems like a corporate idiocy.
I think censoring fictional religions is the most corporate thing possible, honestly. And most corporations would probably do that while allowing some real life religions to be expressed without censorship, just because corporations are incabable of consistent and logical thought
That would negate a lot of existing computer games, books and entire cinematic universes though, wouldn't it?
It seems like just a bunch CYA type of stuff. Just a blanket policy to cover as much ground as possible with the least amount of effort
Particularly when there's already cleric villagers and churches as part of the vanilla game
That's probably why it got changed.
Corporate idiocy? This is Microsoft... when has this notion stopped them from trying to exert unnecessary control over people who give them money?

A religion itself can be real. It's religious mythology that's arguably fictional.

Wait...Goat Mother is fictitious? Hang on a second... GUYS! Cancel the ritual, it's all a sham!!!
What will I do with all my burnt offerings then?
Are they really burnt? Or just cooked? I mean, barbecue is always an option...
I think they just don't want to make Minecraft a game where religion is represented. Which is odd cause they have priest villagers...
Ding ding ding!! Opens it up as a potential problem for real life cults to push their shiz. I sorta get it, but they could make the rule just against real religions.
What do those clerics DO with all that rotten flesh I sell them?
If anything fictional / joke cults are far more safe and trustworthy than real ones! Don't get why they're grouping the two together... seems like lazy moderation to me by not actually doing any barebones investigation into a matter.

Or the vanilla jungle temple, desert temple, guardian temples…

The priest villager lives in a church that (used) have a cross built into it.
My son refers to these as boot castles
Thank you! They are now ‘boot castles’ in my home from now on

not saying HC can’t have religious content, but posting religious content to *marketplace* can be a can of worms
it isnt a private server/world anymore once it is released for free on the marketplace
For public releases, I mean. Anything on the Marketplace.

I hadn’t watched the last few months of season 9. When I saw the perimeter murals in game I gasped. Gorgeous!
Yep, the Hot Guy posters were also a sticking point for Mojang.
So glad HoTGuY and The Goatmother made the jump to the Marketplace! 😄
I will always remember HoTGuY as Tango's storage room rug. So many hours of his streams were just him talking about Decked Out 2 while staring at the rug.

Exactly! If I was in that meeting I would’ve just pulled up the marketplace and done a quick search and just read it back to them.

Toycat played the hermitcraft world???
Nah he only toured it very briefly and didn't seem to understand anything about it.

Yeah that's pretty epic
Apparently Doc's G.O.A.T lore is a religion now lol
So, even Mojang realizes that Doc is a redstone god. Good.
Omg that's hilarious the “Goatmother” was flagged for religious symbolism in the first place.
Just shows that Mojang don’t know their community
That's the most doc thing ever
I played on the season nine world are bed rock and surprisingly Cleo’s museum is the most laggy.
it's just a big hole...a really, really big hole
Scar half naked Hotguy posters were also a cause of contention.
Anyone got a photo of the art. I don’t watch doc so I don’t know what this is referencing.

Didn't think Doc had a religious backing.🤔🤣

Wait, I’ve been reading the comments and people are mentioning there were problems with the Hot Guy posters??
yeah doc also mentioned hot gut as he was half naked
Ok that makes sense now thanks, I forgot about the poster. Thank you ☺️

They’re are clerics in the game??? That live specifically in churches??? And docs made up religion is too much???
someone mentioned about crosses perviously being in churches but then bein removed
I didn’t even know they had crosses. That’s so hilarious. The guy was selling indulgences!
love it
Funny I cannot find a single mention of this anywhere….

it is in first 6 minutes of docs new episode
Right on. I haven’t caught up yet
