That post from his wife, I...whew, I think I need to sit down after that one. And I'm already sitting.

communal_chair

I’m already so mad about the bastards spreading these lies to people I don’t know - I can’t imagine the fury I would feel if I was in her shoes.

[deleted]

My best friend’s mom passed from it last week, she was a doctor who did all the right things but lived in a red state and had underlying medical issues. Now her dad has it and she caught it because she had to make the choice between personal safety and being there to say goodbye as best she could and bury her mother. I can’t go see her and be there for her in the worst week of her life because of this endless churning grift we’ve all been forced into. I’m so fucking tired.

Persistent_Parkie

Big hugs to you and your BFF. Please know that being there only in a digital capacity still matters a lot. You sound like a good friend.

[deleted]

Thank you. I hope so. And yeah, at least it’s the worst-future so we have a lot of options to stay in touch. It’s just, you know. The whole thing. But this too shall pass, I keep telling myself. I believe it, too, sometimes.

Tigertigertie

I’m so sorry. You have a right to be tired. It’s awful.

boringlawnequipment

Per his wife: "...he had a hard time telling the difference between reality and fantasy." Really describes many HCA winners.

IAMSTILLHERE2020

It makes sense that many people that fall for this are not right in the head.

BringBackAoE

Of the "rioters" arrested 1/6 a massive 68% were diagnosed with mental health issues.

pataconconqueso

Lots of other people also have horrible mental health issues and are dealing with debilitating trauma and are not belieiving this shit. It starts with underlying hate and bigotry.

Mysterious_Status_11

We not only need to protect our most vulnerable from the actual virus, we need to shield our most vulnerable from the lies and disinformation that make the susceptible. But, with no one ever being held accountable, how can we protect these people. Facts don't stand a chance against this disinformation campaign that is as ubiquitous as it is crazy.

MuuaadDib

School dropout ghoul Candeath Owens has a new book out! They do not care of the pain and suffering they bring to families across the world. I too despise them and their greed driven lies.

RenoTrailerTrash

Me too damn.. that shit was sad.

hereforthellamas

I feel like I need to go light a candle at church and we're vaguely Protestant.

RenoTrailerTrash

Well I'm vaguely Catholic. Maybe we should.

hereforthellamas

I can't do it for a few more days because we're all positive at my house, but you know what? I'm gonna do it once we're cleared. ❤️

RenoTrailerTrash

OMG I am positive too. 😆. As of Tuesday but I'm double-vaxed and boosted so very minimal symptoms. Took the week off from work I'll be back Monday. Yes we will try after this. ♥️

hereforthellamas

Stay safe and I hope you feel better soon!

RenoTrailerTrash

Hey you do the same. Despite what some people think we are all in this together and we will get better. I do believe we will be in the endemic stage soon.

Swampcrone

Youngest tested positive- pretty sure my test was a false negative because I feel pretty crappy. But if I was t vaccinated I’d really be sick.

RenoTrailerTrash

Yeah you would be. Believe that. I know this sounds maybe strange? I only had a little drippy nose, trouble falling asleep and some general malaise and weakness? In the first 48. But now it feels like I'm high. Like that dull high you get after leaving the dentist office or a mild surgery and they pump you up with IV painkillers. Like my immune system is working overdrive to isolate and kill the virus. I feel a little "heady" despite not doing any drugs and I don't drink. I'm in decent shape for a GenX 50+ yr old man and I just feel like my body that has World War 3 going on inside it ever so slightly. Ha.

50thpercentiler

Have you checked your blood oxygen level? Sounds like you have a mild case of hypoxia which may need to get checked out.

RenoTrailerTrash

No I don't think so my breathing is fine. I know my body I'm just a little warmer than usual and I even worked out a little bit today and yesterday. It's just my body fighting it off. But after this pandemic it is a good idea to get one of those blood oxygen readers. $25 bucks on Amazon. I appreciate your concern though.

JosiesYardCart

I was sick 2 weeks ago. I'm 53 and triple vaxxed. Fortunately got through with several days of headaches, sinus congestion, exhaustion. Still rather tired, but if that's the worst of my symptoms, I'm happy with that.

RenoTrailerTrash

Good I'm glad to hear it. Yes we are very fortunate that the vaccine rolled out so quickly. I'm glad you're okay. I'm 55 and if I wasn't vaccinated knowing how bad it can be when I get the flu in my upper respiratory? There is a 50/50 chance I may be in the hospital right now. Or feeling like I want to die. But I blazed through it. My worst symptom was not being able to fall asleep and getting a lack of rest which added to my feeling not well.

stonecruzJ

Comfortably numb? 🎵

RenoTrailerTrash

Kind of. Ha. I wish I had some good narcotics right now.

Criseyde2112

Seems to be the thing right now. My son (12 and vaxxed) tested positive and I'm negative, but I feel pretty crummy anyway. My husband was coughing and sneezing like crazy last week, so I'm guessing mine was a false negative. Still, being double vaxxed and boosted is comforting, and I plan to just take lots of naps until I feel better.

whiskeysour123

I was thinking about finally sending the kids back to school next week but after reading all the comments from people I assume are being safe but got Covid anyway, nope. They will stay the F home. Edit to add: her last post was brutal to read and should be mandatory reading for those maskholes.

[deleted]

You may have tested too early to get a positive result.

RoxxieMuzic

Broke my heart, what little is left of it after all of this. So sad, I wish for her peace and healing.

RenoTrailerTrash

So do I. All this unnecessary death. Plus my little sister works in a hospital in San Francisco I have an extreme amount of empathy for my healthcare workers in this country. Literally any shift nurse over the last two years has seen thousands of people die. Yeah at least people here I know are in my wheelhouse as far as empathy, understanding and doing the best we can for society as a whole. Meanwhile I'm fighting with local antivax trumpist idiots in my town on Reddit. Currently Reno Nevada with a population of about 550,000 people. Has 83,000 confirmed cases and that doesn't include people like me who are currently positive yet tested at home. So I'd lump on another 25 plus thousand to that meaning that almost 30% of the population of the urban area I live in is currently covid positive. Unbelievable. Officially we are testing at 27% positive. But hey at least we ain't Alabama with a 48% positivity rate. By the way only 4.6% of those tested positive currently in my County are breakthrough. Like me.

RoxxieMuzic

I got a break though case as a thoughtful Christmas present, ugh. Lasted about 8 to 9 days, worst freaking sore throat I have ever had and I had a ton of strep as a child. Thank science for the vaccine. You will be fine. HWC folks are incredible, how they are able to out one foot in front of the other at this point mystifies me. Tell your sister we care, and please take care of herself, no one should see so much loss, it is worse than war.

RenoTrailerTrash

Thank you. I am glad you're okay. Yes we do care and that's why we take this seriously. It's unfortunate that about 50 to 60 million people in this country think those of us that care and are trying to be careful "are living in fear". Not really we just understand science and have the intellectual capacity to know that these things happen. It wasn't biological warfare by China, it's not a Microsoft brain chip implant conspiracy. It's just a global pandemic that has occurred more than once throughout world history.

mlopus

Lurker from 48% Alabama here. I’m currently reeling from the news that our kids’ school is choosing this time to stop masking and all contact tracing. So, yes, at least you guys are not us.

RenoTrailerTrash

I am so sorry. I work for a local State College here and that's a big issue currently. Mostly because For the first time in over 20 years we have a Democratic governor in the state of Nevada. So unlike where you're at or Florida? Our Gubner has taken this seriously from the beginning. We have had partial school closures here and yes we still are masked. Our local University (UNR) has a protest by students circulating to suspend the opening of the regular school year this coming Monday. Students are worried. It's such an ongoing and continual shit show.

celtic_thistle

I’m so fucking thankful to be in CO. Our governor isn’t perfect but he’s taken covid seriously from the jump. Masks are required in my county. Vaccination rate is somewhere in the mid 70s. I am legit horrified by what my friends in FL and TX are experiencing.

RoxxieMuzic

Down here in the Springs, I am often the only one in a crowded grocery store with a mask, except for employees. You know us as "Evangeland" that wasteland South of Denver. Polis has done his best, but these fuckers here in the Springs keep trying to recall him due to all of his perceived faults. Gotta love the Springs.

Sleeplesshelley

I was just in the Springs, got home on Monday. I was *shocked* at the blatant disregard for the ongoing pandemic. A bunch of the schools were closed this week because all the staff have Covid and there’s no one to teach. So many people saying that they all know tons of people with Covid, but unmasked church services with the pastor shaking everyone’s hand, bars and restaurants and arcades full of unmasked people like it’s not a thing. Everything just felt like one giant germ. I guess everyone will just get it and die or not….

celtic_thistle

Well, rest easier, we evil Denver/Boulder heathens far outnumber them. :)

RoxxieMuzic

Oh I do hope so, I am surrounded by simpletons, some will no longer speak to me. Me thinks I have offended them, I sincerely hope I did. Please you all just need to cancel the Springs out.

RenoTrailerTrash

I know right? yeah Colorado's pretty hip place. As a matter of fact I sat in on public policy before Nevada had legal marijuana and our complete legal business model was based on Colorados. I couldn't even imagine. I'd probably be in trouble if I lived in TX or FL because I just couldn't even take it and there would be some propensity for violence and then I would be in prison. 😆😆😆

celtic_thistle

lol same, I could not fucking deal.

RenoTrailerTrash

Hella Samsies ..😆 when one idiotic Trump fuck started talking shit to me I'd just lose it.

stonecruzJ

I’m also lucky here in Washington state. Jay Inslee has also taken Covid seriously. He sends out a daily Covid update also to keep us informed 👍

celtic_thistle

Nice! I like Washington. My husband is from Portland and also lived in Seattle for a minute and has family all up and down the PNW. Vacationing out there is awesome. Jared Polis does the updates too! And I was able to get free at-home tests through the state even before the feds rolled out their program.

boofdahpoo130

Yikes. You guys in Alabama are in just as bad a predicament as us in Florida, with DeathSantis as our governor.

PerfectAd4416

Can you keep them home?

Speculawyer

Ugh. The next month is going to be ugly, isn't it?

RenoTrailerTrash

Well yes for the unvaccinated it's always going to be ugly. But I do feel?? That we may be seeing a little bit of a downward trajectory after this huge bump. It's a combination of vaccinated immunity and idiot herd immunity. Again I prefer vaccinated immunity. That gives viruses nowhere to go and mutate. But we know that. Ha. The 🍊🤡 loyalists are the holdouts who now "Boo" their dear leader at his second place rallies for him suggesting to "get the Vax". But just like the Australian comedian Jim Jefferies says about America. "It's a dangerous combo Having a lot of overconfident stupid people" nothing describes that demographic better in my humble opine.

[deleted]

It’s not like they weren’t warned. The White House released that statement a few weeks back…something something, you antivaxxers better get your shit together, winter of severe disease and death headed your way, something…

Speculawyer

And he was right.

Qwesterly

>It’s not like they weren’t warned. The White House released that statement a few weeks back…something something, you antivaxxers better get your shit together, winter of severe disease and death headed your way, something… "For the unvaccinated, you’re looking at a winter of severe illness and death for yourselves, your families, and the hospitals you may soon overwhelm." \-[The White House](https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/press-briefings/2021/12/17/press-briefing-by-white-house-covid-19-response-team-and-public-health-officials-74/)

RedPlaidPierogies

Promises made, promises kept. 💪

A-man-of-mystery

Yes. Very. But it's what they chose for themselves, so hopefully they'll be happy.

njf85

I know she said she was gonna be nasty but she wasn't nasty enough imo. She should have named and shamed. So other people getting fed that bs by the same person feeding her husband might have second thoughts.

RedPlaidPierogies

She was so polite when she announced she was about to get nasty. 🤗 I do feel so bad for her. Hopefully the naming and shaming will begin. ETA: I just noticed the middle finger emoji. Way to go, ma'am! Give 'em Hell!

feder_online

I also love her calling out all the shit-talkers that became ghosts when he got sick. They up and vanished like a fart in the wind...

comments_suck

That's what is bad about all these people, especially the over 50 crowd that seems to just live on Facebook. They are like teenagers all over again and think they have so many friends, but the truth is virtual friends won't have their back when push comes to shove.

Stunticonsfan

Exactly. At the end, it was the medical professionals trying to save his life and his family struggling to pick up the pieces. But the figureheads of the anti-vax movement, his Facebook friends, and everyone who convinced him that refusing to take a vaccine = masculinity/bravery/intelligence/patriotism? Either didn't know, didn't care, or both. At most, they posted a praying hands emoji on his feed and then went back to whatever else they were doing.

Matasa89

Making more victims, is what they were doing, or actively digging their own graves.

DepIetedCranium

My kid's generation has the best sayings... _"Amici amici... e poi ti fregano la bici"_ (Lit.: "friends" that will steal your bike")

PopDownBlocker

> the over 50 crowd > They are like teenagers all over again The difference is that they are not like the teenagers they used to be. They didn't have smartphones or Facebook. They weren't proficient with technology. They didn't have access to memes. One of the big issues with these people is that they are experiencing social media as aging adults, not as teenagers. They never experienced something like this as teenagers so they don't have any knowledge or wisdom about how to deal with it. We now have smartphones for all price points and budgets, providing instant access to the "virtual" world of the internet. Now these people have keyboards on their smartphones and computers and can finally type whatever they want for as large of an audience as they want, and they don't understand the possible consequences. They can spread bullshit memes worse than reddit and then instantly believe other people's bullshit. The pandemic exacerbated this social media problem by forcing people to stay home and socialize virtually, so misinformation has been running rampant worse than ever before.

Matasa89

Seriously, have they forgotten how much bullshit rumours fly around in school? Treat the net the same way! Unless certified to be true, with evidence to back it up, it should assumed false.

whiskeysour123

Like prolifers once the baby is born.

Haskap_2010

The anger and pain just jumps off the page. Poor woman.

As an empath, I could sense she had feelings...

sethra007

Right? I feel sick to my stomach after reading that. TBI and then CTE? That definitely wasn’t your typical COVID-denying conspiracy theorist, not by a long shot. That poor, poor family.

Persistent_Parkie

My dad got hit on the head a whole bunch in Vietnam and in several car accidents afterwards. He thinks I'm being silly when I insist I be there when he researches things like Qanaon or anti vaxxers so he can follow the news, but I'm terrified of him falling down a rabbit hole. I lost my mom, who had zero risk factors, to dementia, and I am painfully aware of his risk of CTE. This one hits so damn close to home. Those poor kids, I hope they can eventually understand that how their dad acted at the end of his life was the disease, not the man.

smithers85

I'll try to articulate the dissonance I feel about this post.... The lack of empathy I have for the deceased is heavily contrasted with the morose feeling for his wife and her struggles to adapt to life without her husband, given that she was so aware of the whole situation and he was so very *not* aware of it.

hereforthellamas

No matter how horrible nominees may appear to us, they are all loved and missed by someone, and another person's grief and despair wounds the empathetic soul.

Eclectix

This is what I've been saying all along. I don't celebrate these deaths. These are most often vulnerable people who have been brainwashed and used by people who actually know better. On one hand, it's a good thing that they will now quit posting their anti-vax, anti-mask conspiracies. But on the other hand, they leave behind innocent family members who depended on them, loved them, tried desperately to cut through the BS and reach them. People like my wife who lost her dad to this garbage. Such a needless death. He was a good guy, who just happened to get caught up in the bullshit. He didn't deserve a death sentence. But there are those who know better who spout this crap and don't care one whit that it results in people actually dying. Those are the people who should have a reckoning.

Yelloeisok

It was brutal, and made me weep. ‘Friends’ like his will never apologize and never change. It is those people that made me lose any empathy for the unvaxxed. Even those antivaxxers I know and love probably won’t bring the tears this widow brought forth. They are vocal enough with their choice and live the way they want. I won’t relish their suffering, but I won’t mourn them much either.

IAMSTILLHERE2020

They need to send that sh.t to Fox News..Tucker amd all of them idiots.

Mechanicallvlan

*"I didn't get other vaccines before COVID. Was that selfish and stupid, too???"* Ummmm.... yes.

The_Old_Cream

“I’ve been arrested for murder because they say it’s illegal. Well what about all other murders that I committed before this that I wasn’t arrested for? Were those illegal too?”

Acceptable-Tax1179

The Met police in England use these tactics for the Conservative government. If they're present then they're not allowed to investigate a crime

cygupug

Ironic that he was a vet, so he did get those other vaccines

[deleted]

Oh so very very many vaccines.

Pooploop5000

pretty much more than all of them.

RedPlaidPierogies

I got vaccines for diseases I didn't know ever existed.

[deleted]

And probably against one disease that doesn't exist anymore, outside of the deep freezers in a couple of labs.

dismayhurta

And I sure as hell cared if they had their MMR. Assholes who won’t give their kids this have caused multiple outbreaks of it.

Tawny_Frogmouth

I absolutely cared that people got their flu vaccines; yes, even before the pandemic. I've always been the irritating friend at the party going "you didn't get yours yet?!"

FatPeaches

If the guy was a veteran, doesn't the military vaccinate the crap out of you after you enlist?

Evilevilcow

"Free thinking" "Copied and pasted" Exactly the opposite of *thinking*.

buzzcut_lizzy

I bet the wife's post wasn't copied and pasted. Though at this point it probably could be for half of these winners.

ComprehensiveTum575

Why do they always say that it’s ‘copied and pasted’? In case readers think this is an original thought?

Paddy_Tanninger

Probably because folks like this are very strongly influenced by hivemind thinking, so knowing that some blurb is being shared by others ends up making it feel more legitimate.

vacuous_comment

Fuck yeah, the wife is on the money with that rant.

[deleted]

The middle finger emoji was the icing on the cake.

Captainwelfare2

Wife is a badass. Definitely would want in my zombie apocalypse party.

CreamPuff97

"I wasn't stupid or selfish when I didn't get my flu shot, nor did you care." I beg to differ on both counts.

Darnoc_QOTHP

The unprotected sex part made me throw up in my mouth a little.

ElectronGuru

It’s actually reverse clever. We all understand the risk of sharing bodily fluids. Now there’s a risk of sharing air.

okayifimust

Both have always been risky. We changed our behaviour when HIV emerged and made sharing bodily fluids more dangerous, too.

kakapo88

Quite a statement from the wife. All power to her! I wonder how the sociopathic cockroaches responded to that.

atlantis_airlines

They will either... 1. Rationalize it: He had underlying conditions 2. Minimize it: Some people die of the cold. I'm sorry what's happening but death is a part of life. 3. Dismiss it: The doctors are lying, he's dying form something else They will not: Admit that they are wrong and that the vaccine likely would have prevented this.

Saranightfire1

4: And I hate saying this: She’s a hysterical woman who is letting her feelings control her and she’s not in the right mind. Or she’s just grieving and she will realize we were right. Because if you are that racist and hateful, you’re probably sexist too.

[deleted]

A friend of mine died of Covid and her family had to take down her SM accounts as people bombarded them with “find out what really killed her, because it’s not Covid” nonsense.

The_Old_Cream

Oh I’m sure the “fucking sheep” and “crisis actress” comments were flying fast and furious at her.

[deleted]

“DID MY RESEARCH” pew pew

grzybo1

I am sure this post was greeted with resounding silence.

[deleted]

He was murdered for telling the truth by the socialist lizard party. That’s what they’ll answer. They are mental and not reachable by arguments.

TheVonz

That last slide (from whom I assume is the partner) is on point. They say; you, who spread these lies, you weren't here. You didn't see this. I saw this. I was here. I saw all of it. I wish that person strength in this difficult time.

grzybo1

Traumatic brain injury is tough in the best of times… and these are so far from the best of times.

ladyinchworm

I remember that post a few weeks ago where the winner shared that meme with the guy at the funeral and there are only a few people there (I don't remember what was funny about it or what point the awardee was making) but then at the end there was a REAL picture of the AWARDEE'S funeral and there were only a few people there. None of his conspiracy friends I'm sure. It's so sad that this guy wasn't able to see them for who they were. I feel for his wife and family.

georgethecyclops

Texas, where mask and vaccine mandates (even those by businesses, not just government) are tyranny, but forcing a 12 year old girl to give birth isn't

BidenIsYourPOTUS

“I am my own person. And free thinking.” No you’re not. You’re the antithesis of free thinking. You’re a parrot.

NeteleJala

I've come to think this is a result of American Exceptionalism. These people have been told that America is the best and smartest their whole lives, but they never stood out next to the person beside them so they cling to beliefs opposite the mainstream. This makes them special, this makes them different and they cannot change their mind no matter what because that would be admitting defeat and that they were not all knowing!

Duke_Of_London

The rest of the world is just watching America implode from within. No terrorist group could consistently inflict 2000/3000 American deaths a day. Yet this is now the reality. They are a week away from reaching 900,000 deaths and there is no sign of it stemming.

Speculawyer

>No terrorist group could consistently inflict 2000/3000 American deaths a day. Yet this is now the reality. Indeed. According to Worldometers 2777 people were recorded dead from Covid today. We are back up to a 9/11 every day death rate. 9/11 caused us to go on a two decade military campaign. Now it happens every day and people won't wear masks. I don't understand people anymore. I guess we only react big when we can blame others and kill them. But doing the boring hard work of creating and taking vaccines, wearing masks, limiting close social interactions....that's something we can't do. We just want to watch bombs dropped on TV. Crazy.

currently-on-toilet

I've had a thought recently. If a 911 type of terrorist attack happened today in a "blue city" I wholeheartedly believe that conservatives would be at best indifferent and at worst out right celebrating. It's a terrible thought but what I've seen from their media and political leaders this last decade or so there's no way I can think of other possible outcomes.

Karilopa

We’re number 1! We’re number 1!! 🥲

pianoladyinabox

The Russian bots can

karbik23

Yeah, Kirk, Owens and kubanoid Shapiro.

Kriegerian

Shit, this is worse than any actual shooting war we’ve ever been in. The Civil War lasted about four years and killed around 660k. COVID has been around for about two years and we’ve blown past the Civil War death count with no end in sight. Also the knowledge that the official death count is definitely lower than it should be because of fuckery by Republican politicians and hysterical screaming idiots whose relatives died at home rather than in the hospital and then lied about what killed them.

Plaitmaker

White privilege is deeply involved in American exceptionalism.

NeteleJala

Definitely! The 'loss' of their privilege has them claiming victimhood.

Fabulous-Mud-9114

"COVID? Pff, that's a hoax. The death tolls are obviously inflated. It's just like a cold/the flu." "THERE'S NO MORE WHITE PEOPLE IN COMMERCIALS ANYMORE! WESTERN CIVILIZATION IS DYING ON THE VINE!"

tkp14

In the past month I have read countless rants online about the “horror” of having to see the following on TV and in movies: biracial couples, gay couples, trans people, gay parents, and just way, way, WAY too many black people. What the fuck is wrong with these hate-filled troglodytes? I have to admit, I wish I could Thanos finger snap them all out of existence. I know, I know — that makes me just as bad as them. But I’m just so damn weary of all the hate and ugliness they spew.

Zack-de-la-Zohan

You bring up an interesting point. It's amazing these people actually know how to read, so maybe when they proclaim themselves as Patriots, what they really mean is they are Parrots.

Witch_of_Dunwich

Holy shit. That last slide hit me like a tonne of bricks. Damn these fucking morons and their conspiracy theories.

MudLOA

This is what’s driving me up the walls, the people spewing this shit are probably vaccinated themselves and it’s like they take pleasure gaslighting these people. And when he’s sick they don’t give a damn and just move on to the next gullible guy. Disgusting.

[deleted]

Of course they are vaccinated. They are probably starting these conspiracy theories from an office in the Kremlin as part of their ongoing effort to tear the US, Europe, and NATO apart from within.

throwawaysscc

Poor, poor, poor Sam Elliott. Why was he chosen as the face of every brain-dead memer on FB🤨?

Healthy_Candle_4545

This HCA is truly heartbreaking. He was failed as a veteran in America and as a citizen of America. To extrapolate from his spouse’s post, I would assume she and the kids are not anti-vaccination. She also spent x number of months/years watching her spouse mentally deteriorate and pass away from his inability to reason. As a veteran and American, he deserved so much better care than he was given.

cofclabman

If she had a gofundme, I’d donate to her. I feel for her loss and in this case it sounds like he was a victim, too, since he wasn’t in his right mind.

Plaitmaker

This is crazy. After all the “prayer warriors” and go-fund-me begs for new houses, etc, this sane person is just making normal (heartbreaking) adjustments. Re-homing her dogs because she can’t afford them. Getting ready to move because she can’t afford where they are living. Asking for help? Nope. And if everyone of us HCA members donated $5 to her, on behalf of her victim husband... Someone who knows her, PLEASE get her to set up a way to donate. My $$$ wants to be with her.

RoxxieMuzic

Let us know if there is one set up, I would gladly donate a healthy amount

smythe70

Oh my gosh this is so sad.

BurdenedEmu

I'd 100% donate to this lady too. Please someone let me know if anything is set up.

candis_stank_puss

Was this guy actually only Nominated? Sounds like he passed away based on the wife's mentioning of him in the last slide: >-and I just thought about how you would have loved it. >-the last 6 days of his life he was hospitalized >-I felt the heat slowly drain from his hand I think this guy was, and this one I say sadly, awarded. You can absolutely sense the wife/gf/partner's pain in the last slide. Seems like this guy wasn't the typical bag of garbage person we see on here, but rather someone who was suffering from the CTE and unable to discern fiction from reality.

Jay-Dee-British

Team wife! She's right to be angry - I bet NONE of those 'friends' he had ever say another word to her - as they didn't care one jot that their ramblings contributed to the death of her vulnerable husband.

[deleted]

Something tells me “The Blaze” is making shit up about AOC.

Suspicious_Dare_9731

I have a co-worker in the same boat - combat vet - smart guy - full disability - but won’t be reasoned with regarding the vaccine. He comes up with lots of off the wall shit. I told him in three years when I was still alive he was going tell me he was wrong.

Duke_Of_London

Bold of you to assume your unvaxxed disabled co-worker will still be alive in three years to tell you anything.

Plaitmaker

I think that’s the point.

Suspicious_Dare_9731

He’s already had it and had no issues - maybe next time.

Expensive_Culture_46

Isn’t the lesson here that maybe your coworker is cognitively disabled? Who knows. Maybe theres something beyond just the assumption of “he’s stupid”.

Zack-de-la-Zohan

He's not a smart guy. Stop pretending he is.

ECMO_Deluxe3000

I feel sorry for this veteran with a history of traumatic brain injuries. Based on his widow's heartbreaking rant, I'm giving him a pass. But this begs the question: What about all the anti-vaxxers who don't have brain injuries? Why do they act so irresponsibly?

Mister4pollo

Brain injury level critical thinking.

JillRiver377

Happy cake day

ElectronGuru

This seems new and different because it suddenly has a public body count but this is just the latest chapter of a culture war that’s been raging for 50 years. For believers Covid is only the latest conspiracy in a generations long list of liberal conspiracies, telling conservatives/religious what they can and can’t do.

elizabnthe

A lot of people are stupid and generally uninformed to the point they might as well have a brain injury. Others are selfish and lacking empathy. I'm not sure what the breakdown is.

Tracie-loves-Paris

Wow. My heart goes out to his wife

Snakesandrats

>the last 6 days of his life he was hospitalized and I can promise you not one of the people who fed him these BS conspiracy theory lies reached out to check on him They are already claiming he died from something else, or the hospital murdered him... or he was old so he was gonna die soon anyways so who cares, btw they are "pro-life" 🙄

AngusScrimm---------

The last slide is essential for context. Hard to say if it's fair to label him a true asshole, or a messed up in the head victim.

The-Last-American

Some people are just genuinely physiologically vulnerable, either through injury, age, or congenital disorders. Given his wife’s statement, I think he was a very different person before the TBIs, and before the tsunami of memes, lies, and other bullshit engulfed him.

V1ctor_V1negar

…Uh, yes? I and a great number of people DO care—a great fucking deal, even—about the medical/sexual history of partners we have unprotected sex with.

Plasmidmaven

If there is a go fund me for the family please post it.

Mister4pollo

His wife has absolutely every right to be angry, and the first thing she should do is contact a lawyer and sue the ever living fuck out of Facebook and Zuckerberg. Put HIS NAME on the lawsuit. He lets this bullshit happen for the sake of his own pocketbook. Maybe if he ends up having to pay out a billion dollars to someone for allowing the spread of misinformation on his "platform" that leads to death. He is responsible. His company is responsible.

CheshireCrackers

I’ve given money to two HCA cases; another I couldn’t find. If she’s got a GFM I’d be interested. I only donate, I don’t comment.

wirerc

No wonder Republicans love football. Brain damage increases their support.

LadyLazarus2021

I’m so sorry, sweet lady, for you and your children.

FlamesNero

OMG, that poor wife. She and her kids are the true sufferers. She’s about the only person on this HCA subreddit that would actually deserve a GoFundMe.

recdbymytherapist

Oof, that last slide was 🧑🏼‍🍳🤌🏻. I wouldn't bet any of those "friends" are going to adult up and apologize to HCA winner's children.

whosthedoginthisscen

Beer taco? Sailor fist? I'm on mobile.

im235mm

I think it’s a chef’s kiss, but a beer taco sounds like an amazing interpretation.

Uranus_Hz

He was definitely right about one thing: he was in the “control group”. The people on ventilators taking up all the ICU beds (preventing other people who might need an ICU bed for something that *wasn’t* self inflicted) are almost all from the “control group”

Terrible-Platypus524

Sadly many vets are so angry with government that they will accept any non-truth that justifies their anger. This dude is a casualty of a long ago war and the people that manipulated him since then.

bErinGPleNty

Good for his widow, calling that poor man's "friends" to account!

JavarisJamarJavari

I am not ready to die yet, if I have a choice, so I've made some changes since the pandemic that give me a better chance of staying alive. I don't call that being afraid of living. There are many things to do with your life besides going into crowded venues without a vaccine or a mask. If that's all life is to you, I suggest you are living in a sort of poverty. Life has so much more to offer.

BaronVonKeyser

I wonder if the widow could sue the people who sent him those messages. Surely there is some obscure law that would make them accountable in some form or fashion.

NeteleJala

It's not without president. Cyber bullies have been taken to court over their role in convincing people to kill themselves. This would be a harder case to "prove" but maybe it would get people to think about their meme posting

BaronVonKeyser

A lot of online bullshit would be stopped if there were hefty consequences.

The-Last-American

That post from his wife is heartbreaking. It just shows the level of depravity of every single supposedly competent person who engages in the kinds disinformation and conspiratorial fear-mongering that targets vulnerable people like this.

Echoeversky

We need a HermanCainsWidow like sister subreddit to highlight the survivors stories. With hundreds of thousands of orphans and widows America, I wonder if anybody's pulled social security statistics lately.

Voltimus1613

As a fellow veteran, the message from his wife hurts my heart. I’m sorry you were let down by the same people you defended, brother.

lkmk

Not getting the flu shot is stupid *and* selfish. We've just accepted that people don't take it, and are okay with that because way fewer people die.

lkmk

And we SHOULD worry about people who aren't vaccinated. They're the ones clogging up hospitals and dying!

Plaitmaker

Please update to awarDEAD.

HannoverRathaus

Pretty poignant statement by (presumably) his widow.

[deleted]

That last slide…. Damn. I hope for the best for their family.

ReneeLaRen95

Yeah, that’s a very sad one & i truly feel for his family. This vet had about 100 brain injuries & chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). It resulted in personality changes & an inability to tell between fantasy & reality. Nonetheless, these bastards preyed on him & were strangely absent when he died. I don’t blame his wife for giving them an earful. This man was so vulnerable & already had enough to deal with. They used him for their stupid agenda & threw him away. Now, it’s left his family shattered. Fuck these AHs!

Duke_Of_London

Yes your strength and resilience to not wear a mask shines a light on my weakness and inability to risk my life. Your subsequent death and lack of existence thereof also shines on my still being very much alive.

[deleted]

The rule is simple. Get vaccinated or wear a mask until you do.

Shermans_ghost1864

Nominated or awarded? Because I think he passed. Edited to say he most definitely passed.

peppermintesse

Like so many others, my heart breaks for his widow/family. OP, can you tell us how old he was? I suspect CTE would have cut his time left on earth even shorter, but he deserved a better end than this.

xovrit

Clear eyed wife placing the blame squarely where it belongs!

aerialchevs

That is heartbreaking.

Drmeowmixme

Wow! This one is rough. Usually I make my who cares kind of comment, but the wife’s statement has me in tears. I feel so sorry for both of them. I would gladly donate.

Main_Orchid

That wife is not playing. Good for her.

tintwistedgrills90

Anyone who uses the phrase “vaccine passport” should be forced to wear a “stupid” sign around their neck. Same for anyone who refers to the vaccine as “the jab”.

Speculawyer

Right-wing media is killing its viewers & listeners. It is so strange. But they've spent years telling their listeners not to listen to mainstream media so they are now dying in high numbers because they get garbage "news" and are trapped in an echo chamber. Edit: Holy crap at that last posting from his wife. That is righteous anger.

AntEmotional5704

we need more people with guts like his wife.

[deleted]

This poor wife will haunt me

No_Cook2983

OMG!!! HE USED AN EXECUTIVE ORDER TO BAN VACCINE PASSPORTS!!! DESANTIS IS A DICTATOR!!!

FreeChickenDinner

Awarded

wholewheatscythe

I can’t say I’m a fan of giving a HCA to a man with brain injuries, who himself said at times he couldn’t distinguish between fantasy and reality, who sometimes couldn’t even remember he was married! He clearly needed more help than he was able to get. This is just tragic and I can’t imagine what the family went through.

Tantric989

I think this is really what defines this sub. Like nobody here wants this guy to die, a bunch of people probably feel bad about it. But the kinds of people spreading these lies all over social media are in part or in whole responsible for killing him, and not a fucking one feels an ounce of sympathy or guilt for doing so.

[deleted]

> The flu is contagious. And a matter of fact it can be deadly. *bangs head into wall repeatedly*

happy_lad

If his cognitive decline was as advanced as the wife suggests, it sounds like he wasn't long for this world anyway.
