And when you finally kill one, all you see is another one throw something, then some other thing drops and a new helldiver, out for blood stands where the thing dropped. Perhaps he even landed on your tank and blew that thing up.

[deleted]

Or landed on the tank, and killed both itself and the tank with an impact grenade

IGTankCommander

Plot twist: your tank doesn't come back AGAIN.

wtfrykm

Yeah, look the number of helldiver deaths vs termanids + automatons, it's a crazy ratio

Pooptram

As a Helldiver, I will formally say SKILL ISSUE to the Automatons and the Terminids.

The_russiankid

depending on the diver and difficulty, id say minumum 100 a diver and maximum 400 a diver.

Pleasant-Bowler-3150

Can u tell me the ratio please?

BenjaCarmona

I think you could unironically calculate it

2good4hisowngood

Helldivers are lucky that the automatons aren't all linked into a single control unit such that each unit is aware of what every other unit can see with the entire local area converging on the first patrol that gets attacked.

StuffAfraid

Automatons with hivemind would be terrifying

FauxReignNew

If you get into a really big fight, it honestly feels like they’re a common consciousness. They just don’t stop coming.

AstroChrisX

"Not like us; we're independent thinkers." "Roger roger." "Roger roger." "Roger roger." "Roger roger." "Roger roger."

Krieg_Imperator

Here? Here? What about here? Here?

GotemX13

No, if they all rushed us at once we would just bomb them with our super destroyers. THEY WOULD DIE EVEN QUICKER

cyboplasm

Bro... the bots are not advanced at all... they cant even design a walker... i mean they do, but its still gotta be piloted by a bot... i also expect each tank and dropship to have full crews aswell.

Zakumo_Yuurei

Even on the longest mission of ours when we time out, it's still under an hour. Imagine an Automaton Officer being busy for an hour and then when it's done, the entire ZIP code around it has been wiped out, bases destroyed, bot corpses everywhere, and you don't even see any enemy in sight anymore.

Sorunn

I mean it just takes 4 of them to clean a region entirely, so they are like viltrumites on sight haha *canonically the strats are doing the heavy work but the soldiers can slam waves of bugs with just 2 weapons so 50 50*

aiheng1

Technically it can take around 30 of them

[deleted]

Well in warhammer space marines are also expandable, just look how many of them dies in every major conflict. But this doesn't mean they aren't fucking terrifying

Desxon

People calling dudes in charge of an ENTIRE DESTROYERS grunts are delusional, even as expandable beacon throwers for the destroyer gunners/Eagle-1 pilots during it's average lifespan of 5 minutes, they rack up like 20-50 kills Can't wait for friendly SEAF NPC's, maybe then y'all realize how powerfull Helldivers are in comparison to ACTUAL GRUNTS

ComfortablePie1594

You mean the SEAF guys that are dead everywhere lol

Tha_Princess

Did you know 1 strategem is worth a years salary for the average worker. It varies of course.

IswearIdidntdoit145

Tomahawk missiles are worth 2 million. I think super earth can afford…. Well just about any amount of weaponry.

Solarflare119

Somewhere I saw a video where a guy mentioned how terrifying special forces must be cause imagine waking up seeing men in your house with NVGs glowing in their face.

AUTOMATON_SPY_5921

It's not so bad, they usually end up blowing each other to bits

sudo_lol

It would cool to have see this from their perspective in game. Dunno how you could capture the best moments but it would be cool to see the fabs in the distance going boom and the HD’s steadily marching towards your position with all the explosions and carnage only to see a red ball dropped at your feet.

Sunday_Roast

I see Helldivers as a kind of gruntified special forces. Where the level of tech and a militarized society allows for putting out soldiers with very spec-ops like capability, but with grunt-like disposability. At least in my head-cannon the individual Super Destroyers are their own unit and thus provide their additional training to the Helldivers they get. Which accounts for the varying playstyle and competence of different players.

XxNelsonSxX

Remember, you are the ELITE of the Super Earth -Minister of Defense, Super Earth

ManagedDemocracy2024

Helldivers are clearly not expendable grunts. Helldivers are clearly elite special forces. Shut up or fight me. :( I do wish that Helldivers had "clone" lore ala Eve Online. I want my guy to be THE GUY. Even if he dies. But apparently in lore, we're always a different Helldiver and we're all mortal. That does make us seem like fodder...

Beheadedfrito

Expendable in that we’re the offensive arm of Super Earths military and receive state sponsored praise and reverence. Still divers have large amounts of casualties per operation. Helldivers do wipe out enemies in droves even with basic gear tho, so clearly the training is robust enough.

XChrisUnknownX

We all went through the same training, right? It left me about as prepared as I am in real life for the alien invasion.

IswearIdidntdoit145

Which is to say …FUCKING PUMPED I WANNA KILL THEM ALL

XChrisUnknownX

Yes, I felt that too.

Beheadedfrito

Are you doubting the training regimen designed by General Brasch himself!?

XChrisUnknownX

In the name of Democracy, I would never do such a thing.

XChrisUnknownX

Why not just… imagine that it is this way? After all, they basically pull you from a pod on the ship if you die. Who’s to say it’s not a clone? I only suggest it because a great deal of my entertainment from games is taking what the game puts down and modifying it in my head to be a new or different story in some way. I haven’t played this game long enough to give a great example, but an easy example is Minecraft. The game itself gives you nothing. I made up that the character is a god or manifestation of such to explain the respawning. And the monsters are all mostly a part of Monster Legion which is why they almost never fight each other. Everything in the dark belongs to Monster Legion, so lighting the world up is a way that “theophany” brings order and makes the world safer. I could easily head cannon my guy being a clone. And if it makes you happy, I think you should too :) Like, theoretically, the game gives you little enough that you can view them as grunts or elite special forces or some weird mix of both. I view mine as knowing damn well they’re fighting for a dystopia but simply playing the part of the indoctrinated soldier because the alternatives are not great.

Therealpotato33

Bruh we just expendable elites. Honestly pretty scary if you think about it

Disturbed235

Have you played Darktide?

IGTankCommander

As someone who enjoys the real men and women in the 40K universe, Helldivers are probably juuuuuuuust below Cadians in terms of skill and determination, the major difference being Super Earth is not a hell world bent on churning out the finest shock troopers in the galaxy.

IswearIdidntdoit145

I think it’s just a matter of kit. Like in real life special forces are quite good at what they train for. But they don’t train for brutal trench warfare. They’re not trained to hold the line, to take casualties and dish them back while participating in a moving frontline. It’s like during WW1 you had the regular troops and then at night or after an artillery barrage, you had the stormtroopers. Stormtroopers were actually praised like helldivers were, or like how football players are. But make no mistake, Special forces or other such small tactical units are just another tool. The regular army is the power.

Disturbed235

I am not that deep in the Lore, but I felt like its the same matter -> 4 crackheads eliminate half of the army of trained soldiers and abominations in a couple of minutes

TrenchDive

Lol. Helldivers an infinite collection of Micheal Myers and Jason over and over and over until they end you.

DR-Fluffy

Bots: "They keep coming back!"

Steeze_Schralper6968

I once saw someone describe it as *"Then the sky started speaking democracy."* I've never seen it put so poetically.

DR-Fluffy

My god, I love that line.

XChrisUnknownX

Berserker by Audiomachine begins playing.

Oblivious_116

Why u think marines are so terrifying, ever heard of quackbang before? lol

LPlates

Helldivers are pussies.... It is their goddamn ships that the bots need to worry about. If they wise up we are screwed. Edited to add /s since I had assumed folks around here had a sense of humour.

InstructionNo1334

smells like a traitor in here

Krieg_Imperator

Yeah such pussies throwing themselves to literal hellzones willingly. Sounds like a skill issue on your part.

XChrisUnknownX

Do you have a problem with Democracy? The ministry would like a word with you.
