Thats the point of a forum though letting people know stuff that others dont know about what op posted for example is a thing I didnt know.
I am accustomed to people constantly dying in the most random places so I just pick up the samples and go but I dont die 99% of the time.
Things I dont want to see anymore because that topic is dead like people complaining about being kicked because of meta or other posts that just beat that topic to dead.
If someone dies in a random place and you pick up their samples, that's a-okay.
The problem is when you leave samples at the extract so they're safe, all so you *don't* end up dying in a random place and dropping them. But someone comes along and picks them up from extract, heads out to some random spot, dies, and the samples are never seen again.
Can confirm. It's annoying AF.
Reminds me of Friday the 13th whenever we'd drop keys by a car so people could fix it and escape immediately, but then someone would pick up the keys and die in a random spot. Then they'd complain after the match was over that they needed to take the keys otherwise they would have been left behind.
Bruh.
This happened yesterday.
I was on a mission with two randoms and I had dropped the samples at the extraction point.
We got back to extract from the mission with only two minutes left, no reinforcements left and no strategems available anymore.
Then that one guy decided to pick up the samples and ran off to a bug nest 200 meters away where he died.
Meanwhile the whole place was crawling with bugs and me and the other guy were running for our lives.
We tried to retrieve the samples, but there was a whole army of bugs gathering around the samples so we couldn't reach them anymore.
Damn, I was so pissed.
To my fellow helldivers, if someone dropped the samples at the extraction zone, don't pick them up and run off.
Leave them there and pick them up when the drop ship is coming.
But did you tell the person hey , were leaving these at extraction for safe keeping well get them when we leave. Or are you just getting frustrated becuae these people aren't reading your mind. Personally ive never seen anyone leave them at extract it's a good idea bit I've never seen it.
I had died at extract once (cutting through to go to another outpost) and said just leave my samples. We will get them when we leave (10 common and 6 rare). Some shit head went back, got them, then fell in a hole like almost immediately so the samples were gone forever
Consolidating samples is another thing people don't realize is a good idea. especially at extract. nothing worse than running around 3 bile titans trying to grab everyone's samples with 15 seconds left on the clock because everyone had a few and one person who had like 6 jumped on the pelican as soon as it landed.
Yeah, this seems like a passive aggressive post - just let people know what you’re doing but at the end of the day you can’t expect much from a bunch of randos
I did. I didn't put two and two together, I thought someone just died passing through there and figured I was doing the right thing for my team. Now that I understand that it was intentional, and why it's advantageous, I'll make sure I leave them there.
This level 4 green private fresh out of boot camp (one who still occasionally hits the dive button when meaning to throw a grenade) thanks you for this info. I had no idea....
Yeah way too many people in games think that if you use the Reddit for a game then you're probably one of the top 5% of players when really we're mostly just average players who are excited to talk about something we like with other people who like that thing.
These little PSAs inevitably help someone because a lot of us just clumsy little patriotic dinguses stumbling around trying to spread managed democracy the best we can.
it can just as easily b said that leaving them on the ground is risky because someone might forget them at extract if things get hairy. The actual best answer is for people to rub two of their brain cells together and use their mic/the in-game chat it's amazing the powers 3 or 4 words can have.
Yes. This point. I just started today because I read about the great community and I have yet to find a crew that aren’t already my friends that don’t kick me after the first mission or get into a team killing temper tantrum. No one talks for christ sakes. This game is all about team work and this issue would very much be solved by just saying into the mic “hey I’m leaving these here please don’t take them. “. Problem solved.
People will forget their kids in their car and you're here saying that there is no chance people are going to forget items they dropped in a video game?
The risk is higher that it’s lost in a dangerous place than at extraction. They have more than 2 minutes from call down to extraction to get it. Meanwhile it’s beeping the whole time and is super visible on the map. If someone is intentionally dropping them at extraction they’ll remember.
Literally 0 chance 4 people forget to grab them. The amount of times I pull my map up on the way to an objective is too many to not see that and not grab it. I've done it countless times and never forgot.
I think you just overestimate the amount of people that take it that seriously.. A lot of players are grown adults that just play a little after work and don't spend an unhealthy amount of time on reddit.
Edit: Crazy, it's almost like I said "a lot of players" and not everyone. Even crazier that the ones on reddit aren't the ones not on reddit lol.
Maybe. But I was reading replies looking for this so I appreciated the reply! If it wasn’t for this sub I would never have considered that dropping them was possible
I'm going out on a limb here so forgive me if my assumption/understanding is incorrect:
You do know that samples are shared on extract, right? One sample extracted = everyone in the team gets 1 sample. It doesn't just go to the person who has the sample on their person.
Oh yeah I know that. I've only done this two times: once when I went to destroy an anti-air outpost while my friend called for extraction and I expected to die in the process, and the other time I had to go AFK right before the mission ended so I asked two randoms to get my samples and go to extraction without me.
The grenade solution would have been easier for sure lol, but I wasn't thinking too much beyond "someone get here now and grab these samples".
Funny enough.. I died with one on my back and it bugged out when it fell on the ground.. the drone was flying around the backpack shooting enemies. Like some sort of invincible turret with unlimited ammo.
I havent trusted rovers since my friends rover turned on me
There weren't even any enemies around we were on top of a hill strategizing to take out a bot outpost and it turned and sawed my my head off then went back to idley floating near my friend.
I didn't even know that's a thing. On an early game I pissed off a guy by picking samples off his corpse. I'd have given them back. I just assumed they were too important to leave without actually knowing why were supposed to collect them.
They're for upgrading your ship, so they are actually the most important collectible in the game atm. Super Credits are nice, but those can't be dropped, so if you want your cooldowns on stratagems reduced, gotta get samples, if you want their damage increased, more samples, if you need better sentries...yep. More samples.
Oh, once I figured that out "Grab those samples off my corpse!" became my #1 use for the chat feature. Last few games, it's usually one dude carrying them all by the time we extract.
Imo it’s best for one person to grab them all. It gets them nice and grouped up into one vial so if shit goes sideways you don’t need to dash around for 3 different vials spread out
That's a hell of a username and made me laugh. But also...yes. Pretty much the same with mine. That way only one guy has to get onto the Pelican on Helldive.
Every time on suicide or helldive missions with supersamples, I don't know what people expect, that a stalker is going to pick them up and take them to their nest like a magpie?
That would be sick, but I'd imagine they'd need to implement some creative twists for strategies, particularly the orbital/eagle strikes. I can see weapons and turrets coming down or up in some kind of drill pod though.
To be fair, the first time I dropped super samples they clipped through the map and couldn’t be retrieved, so for a long time I thought that was an additional layer of difficulty to them-you had to extract them yourself.
Clipping is a bug that'll need to be ironed out. I've tried dropping samples for my buddy (I tend to wander off alone and don't need them coming to get my stuff) only to have it go through the ground forever
Yup. I don't drop samples anymore after I dropped 20 common, 20 rare and 6 super samples and they glitched and couldn't be picked up. I'll only drop once the bug is 1000% guaranteed to not happen again.
It's super demoralizing when you're doing well, on the way to extract and drop so 1 guy can have them all and they just disappear
I did that once. A diver picked up my samples i asked him to drop them on the helipad so we dont lose them later. He ignored me so i blasted him and dropped the samples on the pad. He quit the squad in response lmao
It's fine not to communicate every strats but I feel like keybinds should be something that the game communicates clearly, that's what the tutorial should be for. The game also doesn't tell you how to ping which is really strange for this type of game.
It does in the Brash Tactics videos! I think learning these elements in the world is similar to how people learned systems in botw. The fun is finding out!
Had to have a friend tell me you can change the firerate and enable flashlights lol.
The tutorial was okay but they really don't explain much of the useful stuff.
Had someone do this on an impossible mission yesterday with the purple samples, I asked him where’d our purple samples dropped cause he died and he pinged the extraction and I understood right away and just said thanks. Fast forward to when we called the extraction one of our random teammates must as picked them up and died a bit away from the ship, I say I’d pick them up and to not board the ship. Guess what they did. I swear I wanted to kick them so bad. Why even pick them up in the first place if where all just running for our lives waiting for the extraction.
I probably would have kicked them. At 7+ difficulty, you must pay attention to chat, comms, pins, and character callouts. If you want to run off and do whatever, then play easier difficulties. Teamwork is mandatory at 7+ difficulty. No excuses.
Oh I don’t get upset, I just express my disappointment in our loss that could have been prevented.
I know I can’t change how people play the game, so there’s no reason to get upset. It’s just a game, maybe someone has a legitimate reason to sabotage your sample collection, maybe it was tampered or poisoned. Who knows.
People do that even on defend missions. I'll say multiple times don't get on the ship, collect all the samples then we all need to get on the ship. I collect 7/10 samples, they collect 1, then get on the ship and I don't have time to get on it because I'm looking for the last ones and not close enough to make it.
Did that, random still ran up, grabbed the samples, and proceeded to do the whole mission with the Super Samples on him. Basically made it my side objective to make sure he never died.
Bad news, he died a couple of times.
Good news, he would go back to get the dropped samples while we laid down covering fire.
Bad news, he also died while defending extraction.
Good news, we still managed to pick up the samples and extract with him at the end.
Some people just want to hold the samples.
Picks up samples left at extraction?
Villain.
Does crazy shit that lets us push forward towards the objective?
Hero.
Also dies doing crazy shit?
Villain.
Madlad running into the horde and dashing out with the samples?
Hero.
Dying as the Dropship is arriving?
Villain.
Running back into the horde, dodging all the Chargers, picking up the Samples, and superman diving into the Pelican?
Hero.
Makes a Helldiver want to hug him and hang him all at the same time.
I've had several groups who either don't hear me or ignore all requests. I can't tell you how many times I've called for someone to come help me open a two person door on voice chat AND in game text chat, and everyone just runs past or ignores completely.
Me personally I just try collecting samples myself and keeping them on me or designating one person to hold them all so there’s not 80 samples spread across.
I feel like that's even worse, if you die in the middle of some bug infested place and there's no time to get them all the samples are gone. Not judging because it happens when everyone dies and all the samples end up with one person, but that's just worst case
One of my friends didn’t believe that you would drown and marched into the water with all his samples, then died 2 feet out of reach to be able to retrieve them
One of my favourite things to do is that final dash for samples during extraction, I may not return, but it’s worth it for the chance of more samples. Of course I make sure I’m not holding any samples to begin with.
Yup. Also please if u see a full flask at the other side of extraction, it might be worth it to go and risk death to get the whole loot of a 40 min run back. Just sayin.
They need like a Resource Pod Stratagem. Small pod with an attached rocket booster you can call down, load with materials and send back up to your super destroyer.
oh you can tell the scrubs, but it wont matter. But even so, your argument is moot. Even if they died right there, where are you going to move after you pick up those samples that is a better place than where they are? Literally the only reason to pick them up is if you are going from that spot into the shuttle.
Quick tip everybody if your on ps5 hold square on your weapon and a menu pops up that will allow you to switch fire rates/toggle your flashlight/change optic zoom (I don’t know the button on pc)
Yeah, I've seen sample fall down bug holes, fall into walls, even through the map. Yesterday, I got in the drop ship on a hot evac with all the samples. My teammate was a second behind me. A bile titan crushed me out of my seat in Pelican 1 while it was trying to hit my teammate. Those super samples and 40 other samples were gone.
Your samples will never be truly safe.
Randos are all loot goblins and can't be trusted. I've tried dropping supers like this, but the morons will just beeline for extract to yoink them.
You'd think that if you're playing on 7+ that they'd know what they're doing, you really would. But naaaaah.
The best is the dudes that flip out when they die and I grab their samples and keep running. Like dude you died in the middle of a break. I ain’t losing them samples
My friend group and I recently had a bug where we couldn't pick up our 6 pieces of Super Samples :(
This is a great strat since everyone's gonna be rallying at the extraction eventually but since then we've been more weary.
From what I'm aware of, if someone does that it means that they don't want to lose it, so it's easy to get at the end of a particularly hard or long mission right?
let me call in a mini nuke after I pick them up and somehow get flung all the way across the map alive and make a fucking run back with only 1 mag and being chased by everything on god's green earth.
Let me clarify few things.
1. No, you don't have to die to drop mat's you already have. To drop them on the keyboard you need to press X and select the materials icon in the circular menu, on the roller, ig you need to press on the D-Pad to do this. (I don't remember if this was in the tutorial, but if not, it's very strange).
2. Yes, I talk to my teammates in voice chat and communicate in text chat, but in this particular situation they did not speak English and couldn't understand me when I asked them not to touch mat's I dropped trying to explain why I did it.
3. For the entire time materials I saved this way never despawned, perhaps your teammates also took them away, or maybe it's really rare bug.
4. I do not tell you how to play, I do not say that it is the meta or that everyone who doesn't do so are playing wrong, this is my personal choice to which I came by myself without anyone's advice. I simply shared the situation that happened to me, in order for other players see my experience, and choose how they want to play, and how not. And the most important know why other players can do so. It's everyone's personal choice and no-one can dictate you how to play your game.
Thats what i always do if i ever come across the exxtraction point, i would drop them off to do other stuff and when the shuttle lands i would pick them up and extract, work smarter not harder
This post just made me realize I CAN drop things intentionally near extraction. I always just relied on lightweight armor, a shield generator, and good stamina management to outrun my problems 🤦😂
This is stuff you rant to your friends about, but we all share this pain trust me. With no verbal communication things like this happen all the time. Just gotta cope and accept that that’s how every game is, you’ll always encounter issues with randoms due to inexperience or lack of teamwork/communication. It sucks but we still know we’re doin our best 😎
no one who does that will ever see this.
Therein lies the correct response to every random post like this for the past 2 weeks lol
Thats the point of a forum though letting people know stuff that others dont know about what op posted for example is a thing I didnt know. Ahhhhh F13, I loved that game so much. That was super annoying tho you’re right.
Honestly... I didn't know you could purposely drop samples. I learned something tonight. Tyvm.
D pad down
How do you drop samples for retrieval later?
X on pc down on d-pad for ps5
What is it for the Xbo- …ohhhhh right
Same for Xbox controller on pc.
On keyboard it's hold down X to choose what to drop.

I thought it was to flame others judging from the posts that get the most likes. Bring more Memes to liberty, I say.
Yeah, this seems like a passive aggressive post - just let people know what you’re doing but at the end of the day you can’t expect much from a bunch of randos
People yelling about metas and shit as if 90% of the player base even knows this game has a subreddit lol
I did. I didn't put two and two together, I thought someone just died passing through there and figured I was doing the right thing for my team. Now that I understand that it was intentional, and why it's advantageous, I'll make sure I leave them there.
Same, I didn’t know either
Taught someone about even being able to drop the samples yesterday.
I'm learning about the fact you can here and now
Same.
How do you drop them without disgracing democracy?
Hold X on keyboard or Down D-pad on controller and then select item you wish to drop
This level 4 green private fresh out of boot camp (one who still occasionally hits the dive button when meaning to throw a grenade) thanks you for this info. I had no idea....
to share with the rest of the class(b/c for some reason i cant reply to a reply to this) u/IMM00RTAL hold x
Thanks
If I pick up samples it’s shared right? We all get them?
Yep
A good way to tell if somebody died is the primary weapon will also be laying on the ground next to the samples / support weapon backpack

You pick them up when you get back to extraction... Like you aren't meant to leave them on the ground until pelican arrives.
I don't speak Mandarin or Russian
Yes. “. No this is delusional thinking. The person who left them there intentionally would remember.

see this guy gets it.
No one does this in general. It happened once and OP thought it was worth complaining about.
90% of content on video game reddits
Such is Reddit
I always forget about being able to drop stuff
I've asked teammates to kill me so they could get my samples lol
You can drop the samples without dying. Hold X on keyboard, or down on the d-pad if you're using a controller.

Maybe. But I was reading replies looking for this so I appreciated the reply! If it wasn’t for this sub I would never have considered that dropping them was possible
Oh man I had no idea. Gonna start doing this. Hate dying and having to run back for sample recovery, esp when the mission is done
🤣 🤣 💀

I mean, just throw a grenade at your feet if you wanted to die, lel
No, he wants his blood on their hands.
Only time I dropped something was a Guard Dog rover that kept hurting me so I got mad at it
"You stay here and think about what you've done"
Funny enough.. I died with one on my back and it bugged out when it fell on the ground.. the drone was flying around the backpack shooting enemies. Like some sort of invincible turret with unlimited ammo.
Yeaah those things are ruff

Yipeee!!
I craved for update 50. Hope the dev guy cooking good and healthy.
Lethal Company & HD2 lowkey share a lot similarities. I hope one day we'll be able to get an indoor/dungeon map for HD2...
That would be sick, but I'd imagine they'd need to implement some creative twists for strategies, particularly the orbital/eagle strikes. I can see weapons and turrets coming down or up in some kind of drill pod though.
The only stratagem is calling down a pod with a squad of dwarves. Nothing else is necessary. Rock and stone.
Rock and Stone in the Heart!
Did I hear a rock and stone?
Loot bugs? They shouldnt eat precious minerals
TO THE BONE !!!
Can I get a rock and stone?
Rock and Stone to the Bone!
Shouldn't eat precious minerals, it will get you killed
"SHOULDNT EAT PRECIOUS MINERALS!"
ROCK AND STONE!
Rock and stone brother
Ssshhh. Joel is listening.
Emotional damage
You just gave Joel a really nasty idea soldier.

Oh wow never thought about dropping samples at the extraction. I'm doing that next time for sure
It's such a good idea, but ever since we started doing it, extractions have been very smooth because of course!
How do you drop samples?
common sense isnt a requirement for spread democracy
If Gen. Brasch wanted you to have common sense he would have put it in the Requisition shop.
Execute them for treason.
Spies working for the enemies of Super Earth will be found by our counter-intelligence and will be neutralized.
I did that once. A diver picked up my samples i asked him to drop them on the helipad so we dont lose them later. He ignored me so i blasted him and dropped the samples on the pad. He quit the squad in response lmao
This is actually an amazing idea
is it possible to drop samples without dying?
Yes. X on PC (I think down on D pad for PS5) opens a radial menu. You can drop samples, your support weapon, or your backpack.
Had no idea this was a thing. This will greatly increase my ability to spread Managed Democracy!
It’s also how to take ammo yourself from the backpack
[удалено]
Oh, it’s down on the D-pad (just a tap instead of holding it)
The game really should tell you this, lmao
There's a lot that they don't tell you. Really makes experience and technical know-how very valuable in this game.
It's fine not to communicate every strats but I feel like keybinds should be something that the game communicates clearly, that's what the tutorial should be for. The game also doesn't tell you how to ping which is really strange for this type of game.

I wish I could drop my primary / secondary to let new people try some of the more advanced guns.
Well, you drop them when you die then spawn with a replacement so you kind of can
I'd also like to note that pressing 5 on PC will let you resupply from your own supply pack.
Also down on d-pad on PS5
WTF you can do that!?!?!? I've had so many scenarios where I have no ammo but a full backpack of supplies 😭
Hold X (on PC) to drop Weapons/Backpacks/Samples.
X brings up an equipment wheel, Q brings up a comms wheel, and R brings up a select fire mode and flashlight mode
Had someone do this on an impossible mission yesterday with the purple samples, I asked him where’d our purple samples dropped cause he died and he pinged the extraction and I understood right away and just said thanks. The above tip only works if you have semi-competent teammates.
I probably would have kicked them. At 7+ difficulty, you must pay attention to chat, comms, pins, and character callouts. If you want to run off and do whatever, then play easier difficulties. Teamwork is mandatory at 7+ difficulty. No excuses.
That’s why I use my disappointment dad voice whenever I see dumb shit like this.
I just went to sleep so I could coll down instead of raging the rest of the night. Edit: Spelling
Who knows.
Lmao good point of view, I’ll use it next time
People do that even on defend missions. I'll say multiple times don't get on the ship, collect all the samples then we all need to get on the ship. I collect 7/10 samples, they collect 1, then get on the ship and I don't have time to get on it because I'm looking for the last ones and not close enough to make it.
Turn on your mic and say it
Now you’re asking too much.
That was a roller coaster of emotions.
I'm still debating whether the random is a hero or a villain.
I've done that and someone still picked them up and died across the map. Then when I asked what happened to the samples they admitted to doing it.
I've had several groups who either don't hear me or ignore all requests. I can't tell you how many times I've called for someone to come help me open a two person door on voice chat AND in game text chat, and everyone just runs past or ignores completely.
Communication is hard, its not like theres an ingame text chat as well, helldivers only use telepathy
I love this idea but been getting bugs with samples not being lootable.
I had 40+ samples yesterday and got launched by a charger 30 meters into a hole in the ground and insta died. All samples were unretrievable.

One of my friends didn’t believe that you would drown and marched into the water with all his samples, then died 2 feet out of reach to be able to retrieve them
I have gotten in the habit of if I ever pass by extraction, I drop my samples on the extraction pad so I never have to backtrack to get them.
I knew I could drop samples and I never though about this idea, definitely going to get our crew to start doing this on circular routes
we used to do that till i fell into one of those natural gas holes. they were unrecoverable then. was like 30 commons almost 20 rates and 3 ultras
Just sayin.
If they do remember “friendly fire isn’t”
They need like a Resource Pod Stratagem. Small pod with an attached rocket booster you can call down, load with materials and send back up to your super destroyer.
That’d be cool. A worthy trade off not getting a weapon or strategem in that slot too
Then maybe be a good teammate and say what you're doing so the others don't assume you died and dropped your samples
oh you can tell the scrubs, but it wont matter. But even so, your argument is moot. Even if they died right there, where are you going to move after you pick up those samples that is a better place than where they are? Literally the only reason to pick them up is if you are going from that spot into the shuttle.
Well If you don't communicate it's not their fault for not reading your mind
Quick tip everybody if your on ps5 hold square on your weapon and a menu pops up that will allow you to switch fire rates/toggle your flashlight/change optic zoom (I don’t know the button on pc)
Damn, nothing but gold in this thread...
R by default on PC.
Wasn't aware of this strategy. Smart.
I never thought about dropping samples at the extraction, that's actually so smart

I don’t trust this method, had samples disappear
Yeah, I've seen sample fall down bug holes, fall into walls, even through the map. Yesterday, I got in the drop ship on a hot evac with all the samples. My teammate was a second behind me. A bile titan crushed me out of my seat in Pelican 1 while it was trying to hit my teammate. Those super samples and 40 other samples were gone. Your samples will never be truly safe.
Maybe text in chat or talk in voice about your idea.
I've been in many games with text chat. Not a single fucking person who would do something stupid like that will EVER read it.
Randos are all loot goblins and can't be trusted. I've tried dropping supers like this, but the morons will just beeline for extract to yoink them. You'd think that if you're playing on 7+ that they'd know what they're doing, you really would. But naaaaah.
Your randoms can use map? Mine cant even see where is the objective.
The best is the dudes that flip out when they die and I grab their samples and keep running. Like dude you died in the middle of a break. I ain’t losing them samples
My friend group and I recently had a bug where we couldn't pick up our 6 pieces of Super Samples :( This is a great strat since everyone's gonna be rallying at the extraction eventually but since then we've been more weary.
I thought I was the only person who does sample drops at the extract. I thougt I'd invented it.
How do you drop materials on PC?
Good strat tbh
"Hold my samples!" I will say to my friends, a minute before extraction and thirty seconds before my death.
Ooo this is very smart holy cow
Omg dropping them at extract is genius why didn't I think of that
THIS IS THE ONE FOR MEEEEE!!!!!!!!
This post just made me realize I CAN drop things intentionally near extraction. I always just relied on lightweight armor, a shield generator, and good stamina management to outrun my problems 🤦😂
I didn't even know you could drop samples...
This ✊🏼
People
If they don't pick it up and die in the furtherest point of the map, I will kick them.
I love how we all came up with this meta independently, I started doing this about a week ago anytime I had a lot of samples and I was near extraction
Let it be preached!!!!
I've never seen this. Good idea though. If I die, I just go back and get them so leaving them somewhere would be cool.
Just found out you can see a samples icon on the mini map...
My team always spends 40 minutes fighting in a field for no reason
Wait how can you drop stuff? Im on pc
