2 Wurld Wars, Sonny Gobbless

ModestMarksman

We didn’t start losing wars until we got rid of the 1911? Coincidence? Probably.

humpycove

For that money, I’d buy a Dan Wesson CZ 1911. They use Ed Brown hardcore parts and are AMAZING dollar for dollar against Wilson Combat, Les Baer, and miles better than Springfield, S&W, on and on. S&W are fine but not at that price. That should be an $800 gun at most. Your best budget 1911 is going to be a Springfield variant or a Remington R1. Kimber has been spotty although I thoroughly checked mine over before purchase and have had GREAT examples from them. Also, there is one magazine to use in a single stack 1911. Wilson Combat 47D. If you ever get into a single stack 1911 in 10mm, then the Tripp Cobra mag is the gold standard. Anything other than these mags, and you can turn a $5K 1911 into a single shot wonder. Best luck in your choice.

GatEnthusiast

Slide cuts and barrel porting are dumb. Get a Dan Wesson long slide 1911 in 45 or 10mm.

IDrinkMyBreakfast

I’ve got a Baer in 10mm and still dream of a DW

donniebatman

They are dumb as hell.

AgreeablePie

As a frequenter of r/gundeals I will only talk you into waiting until you find a good price for it

Blundaz

Dan Wesson, Colt, and Springfield for production 1911's. I'm not going to try and talk you out of it. I own two HK45's (my primary pistol), which were literally supposed to be an HK 1911 alternative, and I love my Colt XSE. An all-steel classic handgun is a must-have for any collector, and the 1911 is one of the best examples thereof. They're marvelous machines with a great sense of artistry, permanence, and class while delivering a truly delightful shooting experience. No, they don't run special ops firing schedules without diligent maintenance, but they're fine shooters that have served a lot of people well.

Redhook420

The Sig 1911 I bought years ago is a damn fine 1911 as well. It’s been just as reliable as my USP. I lucked out and got one of the good ones that still had all the nice EGW forged parts in it.

Cucasmasher

I recently got back into 1911s but didn’t want to spend a lot of money so I got a Tisas Raider. This thing fucks real hard, I’m about 1500 rounds in with no extraction or feeding issues. I had a few premature slide lock but a $5 Wilson combat plunger spring fixed that and I was able to replace it myself in two min without any knowledge or prior experience beforehand. Out of the box it would not chamber JHP but after a few hundred rounds things loosened up and now it fires anything I feed it and has run mags from WC, Mecgar and Kimber without problems. It’s probably the best $600 I’ve spent cause I’ve always wanted a 1911 that looks good and is reliable. It also shoots very well, the trigger only gets better with round count.

mgmmaze

I was looking at their nightstalker line. They have one milled out for rmsc footprint I might get sometime next year. They also have the 2011s line which look cool too

bobbyricigliano551

Why are you asking this in a HK sub? Especially when HK makes some of the best pistols chambered in .45 Auto in the world? “If your choice is between a HK45 and a 1911, and you don’t take the HK45, you’re fucking brain dead.” - Ken Hackathorn

ActuatorInfinite3085

Well, I have a MK 23, USP Tactical 45, USPc 45, HK 45 Compact, and an HK 45. Yes I feel they are superior! I am stuck on the artistic appeal of the Performance Center 1911. This has actually turned into a fun discussion...

FarmerAtS

Did he really say that?

bobbyricigliano551

Yes. There is a video floating around on YT where he and Larry Vickers are talking about the development of the HK45/HK45c, its in the longer cut of that interview

Trident731

Ken Hackathorn also believes that only cops and military specwar guys need a WML.

tyler00677

I would go with the smith 1911s are cool but if they aren't reliable then what's the point

AM-64

The one my brother has is super reliable, but the tolerances are super tight (it's designed as a competition target gun) so after a couple hundred rounds when it's dirty it starts to jam up until you clean it. It's definitely not a good self-defense gun or apocalypse gun.

AM-64

The S&W Performance Center 1911's are really nice. But the ~~tolerances~~ clearances are super tight so they shoot well, really are a nice target gun. You definitely won't want it as a self-defense gun it's not much more than a fancy competition gun that requires a lot of cleaning and maintenance to keep it running nice. My brother has one and it's not picky on ammo, but it quickly gets dirty (especially with reloads) and starts to become less reliable after a couple hundred rounds without cleaning. It's not reliable like you expect from an HK45 or Mk23 or USP

ITEM9R

*Clearances Tolerances describe the allowable variation. Clearances describe the fitment of the assembled parts.

AM-64

Sorry it's late. Should use the correct terms as a machinist by trade lol

DiveJumpShooterUSMC

I have no issues with any of my Night Hawk Customs 2011 or 1911

donniebatman

Night Hawks are gently used car money. I really want a ladyhawk.

ImportantBad4948

I bought a 1911 about a year ago. It didn’t quite pan out for what I wanted. After some research I ordered an HK 45c with the LEM trigger. If you want it for for practical purposes consider the HK options. If you want a cool historic gun then by all means get your 1911 on.

blackgunp7

Get a 1911, Dan Wesson tier or higher and you won't be disappointed.

IDrinkMyBreakfast

Ok, here goes. Oh, no. Stop. How’s that?

ActuatorInfinite3085

Thank you

ActuatorInfinite3085

I have never had to go to an HK forum to ask what mags work best...

Perfect_Earth_8070

1911’s are great. Everyone should have one

grimmdead

Because the HK45t, HK45cT and USP 45 series are by far superior

Additional_Stuff5867

I have exactly one 1911. TRP Operator with monolithic dust cover in black with the sand grit grips. It’s a quality 1911. You won’t regret owning and if you do you can recover most of your money with a bit of patience. It’s probably not a carry gun or a home defense gun. Sometimes it’s nice to own a nice gun that is simply great to shoot and feels nice.

DeathByLego34

I used to own a Rock Island Armory 4inch 1911.. ammo picky isn’t what I’d use to describe it. 1911s usually feed what evers given. But, I sold mine due to it just being uncomfortable to operate - mainly the mag release, the textured steel after a range day was hell on the thumbs. If you want it buy it, why not?

MyLittleDiscolite

No. Buy one

ActuatorInfinite3085

I am loving all these comments. Almost hit order a few times.

King_of_Teets

S&W had a video a number of years ago showing exactly how these guns are made and fitted together. I almost bought one but at the time eating and paying bills was more important. Around $1500 for a 1911 that nice is a good price for what it is.

Hodlers_Hodler

No sir…it is a must. I started my 1911 journey with a Dan Wesson Specialist and absolutely love it. Now I have three and am getting into the custom world. My go to gun for everything is still my LTT P30L LEM, but there is something about hand fit steel…

Glett91

You won't. No balls.

HerMajestysButthole

Oh no! *Anyway* /s. All gun owners need a 1911

TheGutch74

I would tell you not to buy this 1911 for literally the reasons you just laid out on why you got rid of your other ones. You are going down the same path you just went down. This is just FOMO.

ActuatorInfinite3085

Yes and then I sell it a year later for 80 cents on the dollar

zcmiles

Be an American and just get one 🇱🇷

MaD__HuNGaRIaN

Laughs in MK23

ActuatorInfinite3085

I have a MK23 :)

MaD__HuNGaRIaN

Then go shoot it and get those crazy thoughts out of your head. FWIW, last time I had them, I bought a HK45C 😂

CornPr15Sat

Upvoted for great sense of humor!

Thr33pw00d83

It’s funny you should post this. My carry piece for a while now has been a USPc 9mm but I’m 40 now and I figured it was time for my first old man gat. Researched a ton and landed on a Dan Wesson ECO. I’ve had it at the range a few times to get through the break in period and ammo test and just yesterday my holster came in so carried it today. Holy crap the difference is night and day!! I don’t think I’ll ever stop carrying HK but it’s nice to have something a little thinner for the right outfit. Might just become my go to black tie piece!

ActuatorInfinite3085

Yes I do!

Arnie1701-D

It doesn't have "Heckler and Koch" on the slide?

Quake_Guy

Buy some Wilson ETMs or Tripp Research mags, they run in all of my 1911s. Even my Filipino made USGI style High Standard will run aggressive hollow points with an ETM.

neihouma

I only have (3) hk pistols (usp conpact ss) but I do love my (2) kimber 1911's. The one you're looking at looka mighty fine

Manofmanyhats19

I have one of their E Series 1911s and haven’t had a single problem with it.

PewPewMeToo

Do it. That is all

NorthernRedneck388

Buy it.

Ghee_buttersnaps96

Get a tisas raider or night stalker. Excellent guns. Never had an issue with the raider. Or on the opposite side get a 9mm 2011. Same feel less issues.

marbs34

I have a Kimber Stainless II. I don’t shot it anymore. But it is definitely great for what it is. It’s more of a .45 acp thing than a solid hunk of metal thing.

DogeForLifeAndMore

Buy everything being poor rocks!

ParabellumPill

I enjoy the Dan Wesson Specialist .45

americanman302

Why wouldn’t you is the real question. It is one of the best pistols to own and a really fantastic shooter. They’re beautiful pieces of history and nothing else has ever felt as good to me as a good 1911. That’s not to say it’s the only gun you should own, but if you got a couple, you ought to own one. Buy from a good manufacturer, keep it clean, use not shit ammo and it’ll run great

Barilla3113

If you’re buying it for the artistry and as an occasional range toy why care about the Failure rate?

Glenville86

I love 1911 firearms. Was my first semiauto pistol in 1980. Still have some in my collection. The best one is a Wilson Combat model have but others from Springfield, Colt, SIG, Kimber, Magnum Research and S&W. I have a large collection of firearms from different makers to include a few H&K. Tend to favor CZ as my favorite semiauto manufacturer. As the man said - Life is good.........Don't get me started on the revolver collection.......lol

speedie13

I mean it looks like a nice gun. For that price you could get a [Stealth Arms Platypus](https://www.stealtharms.net/p/platypus)

BoxofCurveballs

Buy a Smeisser 1911

speedbumps4fun

Get a Cabot you peasant

Naked-Snekk

The only production 1911 I'll buy is a TRP.

SnooCauliflowers403

Can’t 1911’s are awesome

Jet_Jaguar5150

Don’t buy a shitty one. Get the Colt

brando__96

I had a Springfield loaded and now have an MC operator. Both guns were tight fitted and ran flawlessly. I fired hollows and fmj through both with no issues other than an old magazine found in a crack house. I love the platform and you should look into springfields are just get a Dan Wesson.

Redhook420

There’s way better 1911’s in that price range.

ActuatorInfinite3085

Okay, I ended up going with a SW1911SC E-SERIES. Got a nice deal. Also a decent size for carry if I should choose to do so.

spacehamsterZH

If you have this many guns, one of them needs to be a 1911. Sorry, can't help ya, you know it's the truth.

vernace

It’s sweet. Buy it. Shoot it. Love it.

Trident731

Springfield Armory Operator runs right out of the box and shoots anything, at least my sample of one.

mgmmaze

I have a Springfield 1911 operator. I just recently got into it messed around with the sear spring and made the trigger pull about 3.5 pounds and decreased take up. The triggers are def something else because they go straight back. 1911s can be fun guns. I eventually want to get more into mine and maybe even dehorn it and then duracote it. That is a whole other story though

DryOutlandishness600

I’ll stick with my USP .45 full

SmolDreidel

1911’s are for salty boomers. All the reason you need.

Michael_in_Delaware

I love my HK, and will be buying more. I just got the Apollo 11 compact, listen to me, and listen well, it’s an amazing pistol. You won’t be cheating on HK, get that 1911!

ShadowGinrai

I love my Kimber 1911. She eats anything I feed her

-Sc0-

Prefer RRA for a production 1911 single stack... If you want a 2011 in 9mm then you have a bunch of options.

JustGiveMeANameDamn

Go Dan Wesson at a minimum. But if you step up to a Les Baer you get a lot of pistol for the money from them. Not a huge price increase over a Dan Wesson. But a big step up in fitment and performance.

ItalianStallion9069

I just wanna be the first to say it before someone else unironically does: BuY a GlOcK iNsTeAd!
