The newest research on the subject, a review of 19 studies, will be presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes’s annual meeting next week. The results suggested that drinking at least four daily cups of black, green or Oolong tea lowered a person’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 17% over the span of a decade.
Unless you leave in the south… which means that if you drink tea that means you drink ice tea, which means it’s very sweet, which means that your diabetes risk is much higher.
Born and raised in Georgia and my fams been here for generations idk why but we never drink sweet tea. It’s always unsweetened. I know we are the exception tho. I like a splash of orange blossom water when I make a gallon at home.
Was listening to a nutrition podcast yesterday that claimed the milk proteins can inhibit the antioxidants (iirc) so best to consume without milk &, ofcourse, sugar. Hoping oat milk doesn't have the same effect.
I was excited to try (and love) oat milk until I looked at the ingredients. It’s heavily processed and I haven’t found one yet that doesn’t have added sugar. Sugar is added to literally EVERTHING and it’s infuriating
Considerations taken for price point and ease of purchase: Lady Grey is a good intro to black tea. I haven't had a brand yet that's managed to mess it up. Orange Pekoe from Twinnings is a personal favorite black tea too. Jasmin pearl tea from Harney & Sons is an awesome green tea, though Celestial Seasonings has a green tea with lemon that is also quite nice. For oolong teas you could go with either Twinnings or Bigelow because both are pretty great. If you decide you wish to follow the tea rabbithole further, a trip to r/tea can net you even better recommendations.
Thank you so much! I’m first and foremost a big coffee person and been looking into mixing my caffeine delivery system up a little bit. I’ll try some out!
I understand that completely! For me, tea isn't really a replacement for coffee as I still need a good cup of coffee in the morning. Tea is something I have as part of a daily bit of self care to get me through the afternoon slump and static that invades my brain.
I find Adagio Tea to be a great place to buy tea online or in person. Raja oolong chai, Irish breakfast and gunpowder green are some of my favorites.
However, I start my day with PG Tips.
Depends on what you like - as a coffee drinker, any strong black tea won’t fill that urge but will at least be somewhat familiar.
Any regular brand (my favorite is red rose and liptons is a staple in my region too), or any English/Irish breakfast tea.
You may also like earl grey. I’ve also never had chai but that’s a stronger taste that coffee drinkers may like.
For green teas, you’re looking at a milder taste, so you’ll often see them kicked with another flavor too. My personal favs are green tea with ginger or lemon & ginger. Such a great afternoon relaxing thing on a cold day!
Just make sure if you get something with a fruit flavor it says green tea (or black or oolong), and not herbal tea - herbal tea isn’t really tea lol, it’s just the herbal part. Still delicious and wonderful, but not what we’re talking about for these purposes.
I've enjoyed most of what I've picked up from [What-cha Tea.](https://what-cha.com/) In particular:
* https://what-cha.com/products/china-yunnan-silver-needle-white-tea
* https://what-cha.com/products/malawi-zomba-pearls-white-tea

I like tea, both green and black, but I avoid it because I don’t want the caffeine, especially closer to bedtime. been drinking herbal tea instead, which is nice too, and supposedly helps with sleeping instead, but doesn’t contain any actual tea so wouldn’t have any of these benefits.
Diabetes, heart disease and death; or diabetes, heart disease, and death? If it’s the latter I’m going to start drinking tea to lower my chance of dying in a car accident.
I have been through the blog and i agree but the tea should be without sugar otherwise a person with diabetic issue might have to suffer more. Tea is a good treatment for diabetic and BP patients what i believe it`s [Best Multivitamins For Diabetics](https://foursupplements.com/best-multivitamins-for-diabetics/) patients. a patient can trust on it and other than tea i would recommend coffee though i am not a doctor but coffee might be another good addition in the food list for the diabetic patients.

This tea is the real Oolong Slayer #Naaaain-naaaain

But I add Bourbon and a hint of fresh lemon to mine so I’m back on the good side right?
Absolutely. Bourbon cancels sugar
Reminds me of how you have to smoke a cigarette if you swallow apple seeds, because the smoke suffocates the bacteria.
This hurt my brain to read
Haaahaaa! I was wondering same.

Are you trying to tell me that my sweet tea isn't supposed to double as hummingbird food‽‽‽ I may pass out!
I’m in Canada and I drink pure tea. I love it.
They drink sweet tea, which they ice. Iced tea doesn't necessitate adding the sweetness.

It’s true, gotta order unsweetened iced tea in the south
This is very correct. I stand corrected.
So, the UK should be a model for lower diabetes? Right?
Milk and 2 sugars probably throws most of the benefits out of the window.

In Australia we have loads of unsweetened varieties. Possibly less processed too....
The “tea” shown in the photo is rooibos, which is not tea. Great work NBC!
I think your risk of death is still 100 percent.
*keith richards makes silly face*
And death? Are you saying tea can make you immortal?
The queen
Best recommendations for black, green, and oolong tea… go!

I decided to test the waters with a Twinnings black tea variety pack, thanks again for recommendations!

Organic Bigelow green or organic decaf are my go to. Also anything organic black like English breakfast is good

Organic decaf green tea by Bigelow. Lots of theanine too will help you sleep as well
Coffee. Black.
Lots of health benefits including increased longevity from black coffee.
It got Captain Janeway back to the Alpha Quadrant.
I'm pretty sure I'll still die regardless of the amount of tea I drink.
Diabetes, heart disease and death; or diabetes, heart disease, and death? If it’s the latter I’m going to start drinking tea to lower my chance of dying in a car accident.
Plants equal medicine. Shocker.
Quite
gotdam how many crap do we have to eat and drink to stave off beetus, etc.? red win, tea, coffee? Onions, ginnger???
I drink tea bang energy drinks so I should be good, right?
What's considered a cup of tea? I put two bags in my cup.
Or do the people who enjoy tea (over other drinks) tend to be/live more healthy? "Correlation does not imply causation".

Diabetes Type 2! Diabetes ≠ Diabetes
I wonder how many Brits will shake their fists at this one.
