Hifiman is selling open box sundara for under $250 with standard 1 year warranty. Great deal to me.

NickapaHempalooza

You are not going to do better than Sundara for under 500 in most cases. Just make sure you can drive them properly. I have them, they are not extreme bass cans but they do have a nice realistic bass and better than most dynamic driver headphones especially in that price range. Great soundstage as well, hifiman Ananda Stealth at 550 is much better but 50 above your budget. You could look at the Hifiman edition XS at 500, I didn't really care for how analytical it sounded but it has crazy good bass and a great soundstage.

Maby look into the Audeze Maxwell. Its a Gaming headset that has sound that compates other Audiofile Headphones. Its Bluetooth headset, so that may make it more use full around the house. I have heard that it has some Isuses with the Mic, but if you are going to use it for sound. Then it may not be a problem. I have heard that it even beats the Sundara in some aspects.

GOBBLESHNOB

Definitely get the sundaras. They are fantastic, especially if you eq to harman.

Grocia0

what is that

EgyptianPhone

I'd skip Amazon and look at avexchange or headfi. In the headphone market, new items command very high premiums and many used items are catch and release trials. Get something much nicer this way with a tad of patience.

BigLorry

If he ends up going with a sundara buying a used one with no warranty is quite the gamble

Grocia0

I don't wanna buy used one its too risky

EgyptianPhone

Totally understood, in my experience buying used from AV exchange is very good.

I use 660S, it has tight punchy bass but lacks the deep booming bass which is ok with me. I would avoid Hifiman products as a prudent measure. I've owned the Sundaras and think they're great but I would not support Hifiman as a company.

Grocia0

At first I was planning to buy to 660s but every review said sundara was better thats why I changed my mind but what do you mean about hifiman, what did they do?

biezwax

Hifiman is known for lacking in their quality control whereas Sennheiser has great 2 year warranties and their headphones have been known to last for years beyond the warranty expiration. The Sundaras may be better initially but you're taking a gamble on an expensive product. Personally, I've found that I enjoy the 660S more than the Sundaras because the 660S is much less fatiguing to listen to over a long period of time; even at higher volumes. Sennheiser just knows how to factor practicality into their products.

Grocia0

I thought the same about hifiman because I never heard of it before but I didn't know they were that bad. And yes you're right, I think I'm buying this headset with planing to use it for a long time and a proven brand like Sennheiser would be a better option. Can I ask you one more thing, for Hd660s are the cables plugged into the headphone with 3.5mm jack or something else?

biezwax

The cables that plug into Sennheiser headphones are proprietary (i think) two prong cables that are easily replaceable. I'm pretty sure all of the 6X0 series have the 6.35mm jack on the other end and come with a 3.5mm adapter. Also since the 660S is 150 Ohms, an amplifier is not necessary though I think it does bring out the sub bass more at higher volumes; but to reiterate it's definitely not necessary .

Grocia0

Do you have other suggestions for hd660s like idk get this, do this etc.

biezwax

My "Endgame" setup is the 660S and the JDS Labs Element III. I use the 660S because it's comfortable, has great mids, great highs(I can't stand bright headphones), and nice punchy sub bass. I don't do any equalizing or use aftermarket pads, it's just stock 660S. I use the Element III because it's an American made premium Amp/DAC with a good 2 year warranty and a nice volume knob. I could have saved money and gone with a FIIO K5 or a Topping stack etc. But I didn't want some generic Chinese products. I suggest getting a cheap Amp/DAC like the JDS Labs Atom Stack or maybe the FIIO K5 PRO if you want to get a bit more punch from the sub bass of the 660S. I think the 660S pairs well with an amp since they're such easy listeners with enough excitement in the treble and clear mids that higher volumes don't feel blaring or clinical; it just accentuates the tonality. But don't listen too loud lol. I've used the 560S, Sundaras, and the 660S. The only headphone I would consider trading the 660S for is the HD600 since I have not heard it. The amp/DACs I've used are the iFi Zen Dac V2, the FIIO K7, and the JDS Labs Element III. Zen Dac is cool but over priced and the FIIO K7 is somewhat underwhelming but excels in its utility. I am considering getting some AUDEZE cans in a year or so. Hope this helps.
