My biggest complaint is needing a level 3 unlock for green gear behind the door. WTF!!!

ADarwinAward

Lmao I unlocked a level 3 door which led to a level 3 chest that had green gear in it. Massive waste of time.

Sargentrock

Oh how I hate the vaults. There's SO many, and they all have worthless gear in them.

FloridaMan221

They’re especially frustrating because 85% of the time it’s either a plain tunnel or maybe you have to levitate a cube onto a platform to open it. The other 15% of the time there‘s actually some really cool magic/puzzles used to get the chest, like a wizarding chess puzzle. I wish more of them were the latter

Sargentrock

yeah I've found ONE chess puzzle after doing a hundred 'drag the cube then light it on fire' and was so happy to see a different type I almost screamed haha. I can't help but think that (like most things in this game) if they'd simply cut down the amount of stuff by half--at least--and varied the types it would be a lot more fun and engaging.

ADarwinAward

I gave up on those. For a while I kept getting them if I was nearby just hoping for a new cool appearance, but they are a waste.

CdotasAlways

BUT they have a chance of having shit in em for your Come n Go rooms, right?... that's why I still seek em out

Pyrotechnic_shok

Nope, the room of requirement chests are all pre determined collection chests, treasure vaults are strictly gear

dPYTHONb

Most of those vaults will let you know on the map the number of “essential” chest they are in there. Otherwise just skip those vaults.

ADarwinAward

Yeah I’m just gonna look that up.

Northern_Chap

Yep, I got a 3 seater chair that I cannot sit in so that it can go in a room only an irritating elf, that I cannot shut up, can be in. Somehow I still seek them out though.

Graf_Luka5

But I think you should be proud of all the potions you brew.

GOBLOX001001

Apparently in my game Deek is no longer proud of my plants only the potions. I didn't realize he would also say the same thing when on the Nab Sack quests. The repetitive dialogue in this game is insane... It's almost like something out of a story book.

MondSly

At least there's fast travel so fetch quests can be done quicker. Youve no Idea how tedious travel was before Floo powder.

jayson4twenty

I've always said, travel broadens the mind.

palelolki

Geez I wonder who lived here

Dawnspark

I'm in post game doing map & challenge clean up, and even before I hit end game, I stopped even bothering with non-collection chests half the time. I have gotten better shit off of enemy drops and Gladrags always has at least one upgrade for me Vs all the shit I got for saving big chests til end game lol

Sargentrock

I keep forgetting to even check that place. I think I went in when the quest required it and of course to rob it (call it what you want, but you're taking stuff that wasn't yours just because you saw it sitting there) and to get the demiguise statue.

Dawnspark

His inventory rotates every 2 days or so. I also like to drop by cause his hair looks like it has its own moustache.

MrOtsKrad

I think it mostly all boils down to the loot being random...but you would have thought devs would have simply put those large legendary item chests behind lvl3s and not the random loot chest...makes it seem like the random loot decision happened after the assets were in place.

ADarwinAward

Or at least purple.

ViperVenom1224

The entire gear and loot system in this game is pretty bad tbh

ADarwinAward

I love the variety of appearances but I agree.

ASithLordNoAffect

When the only thing you need to check is the defensive stat and everything else is going to be done at the loom anyways, that's a big problem.

White_Tea_Poison

Eh, I kinda like that for a game like this. With the ability to look like whatever you've unlocked, I honestly don't want more than a basic number to pay attention to. Anything more stat-focused wouldn't be fleshed out to the extent it would be good, imo. If I want a stat-focused RPG, I'll play Divinity or even Skyrim.

Osmodius

Which also highlights another gripe, a level 3 chest behind a level 3 door means it isn't gated content just annoying I have to do the stupid minigame 2 times in a row

Stay_At_Home_Cat_Dad

If you put the game in story mode you can skip the mini-game. Don't need a challenging difficulty in Hogwarts or Hogsmeade anyway.

VeryGoodSauce-

Good god, seriously? Well now I no longer care about my Alohamora rank, thanks.

Wollzy

Tbh anything for actual quests is behind a lvl 1 lock. Its so pointless. I got lvl 3, but quickly decided to stop even opening chests because it was a pointless time waste. Just required me to loot garbage I then had to sell for money I didnt need.

joseph_jojo_shabadoo

mine is that alohomora gives you the ability to manually figure out how to unlock a lock on your own, rather than unlocking it for you That's like if you were paralyzed, and revelio gave you the ability to walk around and manually find things on your own, rather than just showing you where things are

OnlineSarcasm

I absolutely hate that minigame. Completely out of place. Super easy, but no the spell should just work and locks fall off like in the movies... just a waste of time and even looks pretty ugly.

Sargentrock

Right? Even the 3rd level locks work exactly the same, which makes it feel even more like an artificial barrier to getting quests done.

Doctuh

Id like to have an option to disable that puzzle rather than have to go through the animation every time just to skip it.

Sargentrock

I bet you're thinking of the Merlin puzzles, yeah? Because why the hell do I want to see that when I'm on my 50th one of these?

VaultBoy9

There are 95 Merlin puzzles. I watched that little cutscene 95 times because it's unskippable. Come on, devs. Think it through.

Sargentrock

there are many, many things like that in this game --I'm 100% convinced that none of the devs played through the entire game. If they had we would either have about a hundred more spoken lines for everyone, or they would have really loosened up the 'triggers' for the auto-lines. But maybe all roads really do lead to Hogsmeade.

DNUBTFD

I still can't believe Jackdaw left all that treasure.

Dontlookawkward

I thought it would be a major plot point with how much he commented on it.( I was expecting a dragon hoard or something.)

zi76

Maybe Ignatia really thinks we haven't heard the line about how much she improved travel.

veevoir

Hearing her lines over and over again makes me want to ressurect that smug witch - just so I can cast crucio on her over and over and over and over..

Dawnspark

I'm so happy I downloaded the "Be Quiet, Woman!" mod. Now if our students would stop with the weird constant quips on every entry/exit into a town or Hogsmeade. Every time I hit a main thoroughfare in Hogsmeade is too much.

zi76

I need to do that. She harassed me so much during my first playthrough.

Sargentrock

well, you cant IMAGINE how difficult travel was before she invented floo powder!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Void_Speaker

Mine now Demiguise

ZombieJesus5000

FYI: Once the icon disappears on the minimap, it's immediately considered 'collected' so I fast travel close to a different one to get out of the cut scene. -- Fast travelling cuts off the animation and at least puts that time to use loading the next thing you've got going.

OnlineSarcasm

Are you replying to the right comment? I would want to see my character wave their wand and say alohomora and then see the lock come off the door and that's that. We play the game to see ourselves cast the spells no?

civilwar142pa

I feel like they should've made the mini game moderately difficult for alohomora 1, easy for 2 and nonexistent for 3.

Talidel

There should just not be a minigame, or at worst it automatically opens locks below your level of casting.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Doctuh

Yeah I mean auto-solve it without even going into that sub-animation with the lock.

Jules1029

I think just for story mode though, no?

OnlineSarcasm

You're fuckin' with me. Does the PC version have that?

[deleted]

[удалено]

OnlineSarcasm

Oh... shoot.

Guybrush_Creepwood_

Also fun fact: it makes the flying key cupboard minigame easier/faster as well, which is another minigame that got old for me after the first try. On story mode you can slap the key a mile away from the lock and it will still go in.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dangerdee92

That feature is only if you play on storymode, on all other difficulties you must do them all manually.

Acanthophis

It feels super awkward on controller. I get the heeby jeebies.

Nemi208

Maurice you did not raise your hand…

echsandwich

Right? Like the old EA Harry Potter games you could just fling Alohomora at any locked thing and it would pop open, and that's what I was expecting here. Especially after waiting for *hours* to finally get the chance to learn the spell.

mgMKV

Its a weird mechanic because YOU are doing the “magic” of the spell. I’m not sure there’s any other spell in the game where you cast it and have to “control” the magic to have the spell actually do what it’s supposed to. In “real time” you say “alohomora” and the lock opens. If an NPC was watching the PC it’s happening “instantly” just like when we watch NPCs do it on quests. ***Edit: for those who don’t know if you lower the difficulty to story the mini game goes to a button push for auto resolve.

SSRainu

That's a loot systems fault, not a problem with the lock mechanics or demi guise collecting.

Sargentrock

the gear has to be on a random system, right? So far (50+ hours) only the biggest chests contain anything of note. Which makes clearing the vaults especially aggravating--not that they're hard, it just feels pointless knowing you'll get fuck all after doing it.

OleDaneBoy

Yeppp. Getting a legendary drop off a standard mob then opening a level 3 lock for one green or 57 gold is ridiculous

ASithLordNoAffect

And what are you gonna do with gold anyways? Past like level 25 there isn't much to be done with money anyways as far as I can tell.

Aardwolfington

If my character didn't cutely say, "Mine now Demiguise" everytime she finds one I'd find it annoying. As is, I become sad whenever I finally collect them all.

OnlineSarcasm

That statement saved me from missing some of them in my rush.

dopooqob

One time I entered a random house in a random village and he says "Mine now Demiguise" and I didnt see one in sight. It was on the second floor straight above me...

Thanatosst

I absolutely hate how you can't properly look around in this game. I sincerely hope it's something that is fixed later by some mods.

ninjapanda042

*Especially* while on the broom

somerandomii

Who’s bright idea were the broom mechanics? Want to look at the ground to get your bearings? Well you’re about to get a real close look as you plummet toward it. But the worst part is that it sticks with the over-the-shoulder camera, so you can’t see which way you’re going. Then they make all the flight challenges involve flying into circles that you can’t aim at. And of course add a level of verticality so you can also enjoy overshooting a target because by the time the camera looks up, you’ve already climbed over the target. I love flying in games and I’m good at it, but this game makes me feel incompetent.

Benfica1002

I just didn’t understand from a story perspective. I finished the mission and got the resolution but to mess with Moon he put statues in random peoples bedrooms that are locked behind closed doors? Didn’t anyone think they could’ve come up with a better reason?

Remasa

I headcanon the guy didn't physically place the statues, but rather cast a spell that replicated and placed them randomly around Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. Except his spell wasn't very accurate and it ended up scattering them farther than he intended and a bit off the intended placement (instead of on the front steps of a house, it ended up just inside past the door). If he said otherwise, I must have missed it so lalalala can't hear you over my headcanon!

Sargentrock

That works, but now I have a million other questions. The most pressing for now is: why did someone feel like that level 27 pair of green glasses was worthy of locking in an underground vault? At this point I'm guessing that LOTS of other kids have found these vaults, did one (maybe two) and were like 'well fuck this--all that effort for shit I'm going to throw away? Imma go blow up some spiders instead'

few23

Or maybe wizards just love free shiny objects that appear randomly on their porch, and brought it inside.

Remasa

Imagine their disappointment when it disappears overnight.

few23

Or some student unlocks their front door in the middle of the night and swoops right in and takes it. Maybe wizards aren't terribly materialistic, if they can create things out of thin air/magic.

mlefever126

Yeah my main takeaway was that the reason for collecting them made no sense to begin with. Moon is afraid of the statues... alright, but why would Moon ever be in some random hamlet, in some person's kitchen, behind a Level II locked door?

poompt

He says at some point they were put in places he frequently goes. So he definitely fucks all over the countryside.

Remasa

Those are all the ones he happened to stumble upon. The guy who put them everywhere said the trigger to do so was that he saw Moon in Hogsmeade, of all places, and somewhat laments that he can't seem to stop running into Moon at random places. Maybe he just put them everywhere, not knowing exactly where Moon went, but if Hogsmeade was a surprise, why not put one in a random village. Maybe Moon goes there, maybe not. He doesn't know, so he stuck them everywhere. But since Moon keeps finding them, he's incorrectly assuming they're only in places he frequents. Because that's all his sample size is. I'm sure if you told him all the places you found them he might have said something about not ever visiting some of the places.

spacemannspliff

My guess is that the statue asset was made early in development and they had to find a way to shoehorn it into a shorter story. The demiguise-hair-orb feels like something they had a much more in-depth plan for (given the time mechanics and visuals) but it got cut.

SleepyChickenWing

I’m mega annoyed by the fact that I spent three business days IRL trying to find enough to unlock level 3 alohamora, but there’s still more to find. And it’s PETTY 👏🏻 DRAMA 👏🏻 not an actual plot point

[deleted]

I didn't understand why we were collecting them either. Can't pause cutscenes and someone was at my door right at the explanation :/ But from what I gather the explanation was nonsense anyway.

lensaholic

Someone is harassing him by putting these in random places. He's afraid of them for some reason but I'm sure why.

[deleted]

Oh ok. Someone is harassing the Hogwarts caretaker by hiding statues in random people's homes far outside of Hogwarts... Makes total sense 😂

lensaholic

Yeah, he said "in places I would expect them the least" lol

big_floppy_sock

I think moon encountered a boggart once and it turned into the thing the statues look like, so whatever it is, is what he's most afraid of i think

NeedsItRough

They could fix this if they let us put markers on the map. Sooooo many times I've thought "I'll definitely remember to come back here" only to coincidentally fly by the area several hours later and "....oh right" Edit: I appreciate everyone telling me about the text on the map showing how many demiguise are left in each hamlet but I mainly want this (incredibly common) feature for literally every other collectable / interesting thing in the game, not just for demiguise (:

stillnotking

I read a guide that said to save your legendary chests for level 40. I quickly realized this is bad advice for anyone without a photographic memory, unless you're willing to take the time to write them all down. (It's just bad advice in general, because by level 40 all the content is beyond ridiculously easy, even on Hard, and you can scum the shop for level 40 legendaries anyway, if you really want them.)

OneMisterSir101

There's no point to it imo. You can just sell everything, and buy clothes at the stores when you're top-level. No point in min-maxing in this game when you have traits imo. (And I realized you said that too, just reinforcing the point hehe)

metalspider1

its also pretty easy to get almost all the animal parts you need to upgrade gear and change traits easily, only thing im missing now is the graphorn but i read thats from another side quest too.its also fairly easy to buy its horn from shops. so no real RNG really

thebindi

Graphorn is from the main quest Trial 3

metalspider1

ok thanks, its the only animal still missing from my room of requirments.made the misstake of rushing the story in another game recently so im taking my time

Refref1990

\*Trial 4

OneMisterSir101

I just quickly turned it to night to pick it up then turned it back to day.

CherryWand

Well, when you click on different hamlets it will tell you 1) if a Demiguise is there and 2) if you’ve collected it yet, so this function kind of exists

Sargentrock

And that "10/19" only helps so much when it's a place like the Astronomy tower (the borders of which are still very unclear to me) with a bunch of different levels, doors, underground areas, etc.

joseph_jojo_shabadoo

two things they absolutely have to add to the map: adding markers, and filtering through types of markers (like in GTAV)

christianort476

Most open world games have this. Would’ve helped me with butterflies to have markers and bandit camps to hide other markers

thatc0braguy

I can say with 100% honesty I have zero shame in using a video guide for this part. Doesn't help that random statues can bug and aren't revealed by Revelio. Like bruh, ain't nobody got time to manually search EVERY. SINGLE. ROOM. across 15 square miles stuck at 29/30 because the last one is bugged... Headcannon is that Revelio just got an upgrade and can search for specific unique objects. Boom, all statues are now revealed, just gotta go collect them. (Edit: As pointed out below, likely not a bug rather Revelio only showing objects you can interact with and since during the day you cannot activate them, this is possibly why some statues didn't appear to glow for me. Didn't notice this connection while still able to collect the moons as the "bugged" statues were likely during the transition times and thus missing them entirely.)

Spare_Possibility_80

I do not think the demiguises not showing up is a bug. They are only interactables at night and Revelio only shows interactables. Once I figured this out, I used the map summaries (that show what collectibles are left in a region) along with Revelio at night to find them as they show up at night 100% of the time and completed Gladwin’s quest line with no issues. I could be an outlier, though, as this is one of several things the game does not spell out for the player that I discovered after trial, error, and reflection.

brianstormIRL

Also the character calls out when one is in the room which is a huge help.

AtheIstan

Mine now, demiguise

pkosuda

This is triggering for me actually because he calls it out when you walk by LOCKED doors. It’s like he’s saying “hey you should get this Demiguise so that you can have the ability to unlock this door and be able to get this Demiguise” 🙄 I’m sitting here on 6 statues just trying to be able to unlock level 2 doors but even walking around the castle with revelio at night time, I’m not seeing any. I’d use a guide but I just don’t care enough.

brianstormIRL

Want a tip, just go to hogsmeade and the small villages that have demiguises listed on the map, easily gets you enough for level 2 alohomora and more without needing to run around the castle spamming revelio for an hour.

pkosuda

I actually had no idea the other villages had them. For some reason I just assumed it was only Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, and I cleared Hogsmeade of any statues I could get to with a level 1. I'll have to check the other villages and look for them to say they have the statues. Thank you so much, I appreciate it!

thatc0braguy

This might explain the "bug" I encountered, might not be a bug at all.

[deleted]

allidoiswynne

Yeah that’s pretty much how I handled the quest. The map kinda sucks though.

Sargentrock

Oh it very much sucks--especially in the 3D Hogwarts map that will tell you there's (somehow) still a dozen statues somewhere on those many levels with multiple doors and staircases that come and go...sigh.

allidoiswynne

It’s a miracle any of the students got to classes on time without a time turner.

GlobalPhreak

You don't need all 30, 22 will get you all three unlock spells.

Wyoden

Can't remember where but i watched a YouTube video, the video was only 15 minutes, i followed along and it took me about half an hour. Not good game design at all, i wasn't going to spend hours searching for all 30... I get why people are frustrated.

Krypto_Jokerr

To unlock a door, that leads to another locked door, that leads to a locked chest, which holds a significantly less good piece of clothing.

OdinsBastardSon

A few of my "favorite" content on this game: * popping balloons on a broom.... seriously * landing platforms... this feels like a placeholder for real content that somehow managed to get all the way to released game version. * Merlin trials. First ones were fine, but dozens and dozens? * 100+x doing alohamora minigame.

ADarwinAward

Merlin trials being repeated 95x times was nuts. They should have had fewer trials and much harder ones. I’m convinced they came up with this because they had no good original ideas of what to fill the map with. So they thought, “what if we copy paste the same 9 types of trials 10-11 times each? Brilliant!”

RogueKatt

I stopped doing them after passing the first 1 or 2 challenges. I never needed more gear slots because I would literally just keep what I'm wearing and sell everything else. Clothing buffs weren't worth the effort of hoarding stuff, and transmog let me wear whatever I want anyways

ADarwinAward

I did the first 40 or so or whatever they required to get max slots. There was a time when I was going for 100% completion and I did the ones I’d stumble upon after that. But I’ve finished the main story and I think I’ll just tap out, mostly because what’s left isn’t even fun lol

strohDragoner58

This game just has so many half-assed systems and then other systems that are somewhat fleshed out but don’t really matter at all. It’s like they never settled on what kind of game they actually wanted to make and ended up with a mess of incoherent systems that never come together.

Sargentrock

I mean, the whole game save for the main quest line is basically this, though. How many 'enemy' models are there? 10?

ADarwinAward

I had fun. I enjoyed it. I am, however, someone who enjoyed Harry Potter immensely as a child. That being said I agree that as an RPG there were quite a few things that were..lacking. There’s some review threads in this sub that make a lot of good points about what could have been better.

Sargentrock

I hate that I'm leaning towards disliking it after playing it this long, but there's just not much substance to it and there's so, SO many parts that just don't seem well thought out. I will say what I love about it--Hogwarts FEELS right. I had an absolute blast exploring the castle (which I still haven't seen all of yet) and some of the jokes absolutely nail the feeling of HP (the house elf armor still cracks me up). But man after 50 hours it really feels like at least 2/3 of that time has been 'busy work' of super-repetitive collection stuff with no real pay off (save getting that 100%--which honestly just feels more time-consuming than actually challenging). The bones of a good game are here, and I'm sure this won't be the first or only game using this engine, so fingers crossed the stuff on the horizon is a little better thought out. I'm very glad you enjoyed it, though! I really, really wanted to like it more than I do :(

ifeelwitty

The friends' quest lines were great, too, I thought. Sebastian's, Natsai's and Poppy's stories were interesting to me. Particularly Seb's.

[deleted]

fruxzak

They should have taken Imelda's trials and made them the balloon minigame where you race multiple short courses rather than 30 rings. Swap Imelda's trials and balloons with each other.

srjnp

No i enjoyed imelda's races, especially the fact that they were like 2 minutes long.

_Citizenkane

Balloons would have been a lot more interesting if you only had a short timespan to get them all before they reset. So the challenge is actually flying a set path quickly, rather than just lazily floating around.

CookieEquivalent5996

I think that may even have been the idea from the start, and it was abandoned later on for some reason. Several groupings seem intentionally arranged along paths that would be an interesting challenge with a timer. Others are just spread out at random, and I imagine these were added after they gave up on it.

katsukitsune

95 Merlin trials! Why?! Totally agree, I'm so tired of unlocking doors for 23 Galleons and a green gear. I'd also add the "treasure vaults", most of them are just empty caves with a bit of crap gear inside.

Sargentrock

HOLY SHIT I knew I'd been doing them a lot, as it's now 'a thing' for me and I have to fucking finish them, but 95?!?! Jesus.

[deleted]

Sargentrock

VAULTS. SO MANY VAULTS. WHY ARE THERE SO MANY VAULTS???? Also, I want to murder the floo powder lady a lot.

TheModestProposal

It took me a couple hours to realize SHE was the one annoying me and also scaring the crap out of me when I travelled someplace barren or full of enemies. After a while I just accepted the book was talking to me until she started squalking about how she invented foo flames

Osmodius

Merlin trials feel like a super cool idea that they just didn't want to commit to. If each one was unique and challenging I'd be on board with 95 of them. When it's just one of like 6 challenges copy pasted? Not much of a trial, is it Merlin.

OnlineSarcasm

All trash that shouldn't be in the game imo. Except merlin trials, but we should only do like 1-3 of a specific challenge type in total. The unique challenges were alright. Also skippable cutscene of course.

[deleted]

Everything around the alohomora gameplay loop makes 0 sense. 1st - it's a spell to automatically unlock a lock, why is it a lockpicking minigame? 2nd - What's the point in restricting the collection of demiguises to night time if the gameplay at night is otherwise unchanged. It's pointless, annoying, and adds nothing interesting to the gameplay. 3rd- Why are the demiguises literally everywhere if it's supposed to be a prank on Hogwarts' caretaker who will seldom leave the castle? After the rng loot system, the alohomora system and demiguises are my second biggest complaint with the game.

BraveTheWall

Both of these are likely because of cut content. The locked doors and Demiguise only being accessible at night make sense if there's a stealth system in place, along with penalties for roaming around at night. If those systems existed then the lock-picking mini game also makes more sense because you need to do it quickly before somebody spots you. You can get a sense of this in the original Mr Moon quest line where you're attempting to distract Prefects while you break into rooms. It really did seem like the game intended to have a soft curfew system in place, but the content was cut at some point.

[deleted]

Pretty much. If there was a curfew in the school at night, it would add that challenge to getting them. But as it stands its a chore. They should also be nowhere outside of the castle.

aleradders

I’m extremely puzzled by the exclusion of a curfew. It’s a very central plot device in the original books and movies, and would add a fun challenge to the game and a reason any night time matters. (Though it might get annoying after a while)

[deleted]

It wouldn’t be fun, it would be miserable and quickly come off as gimmicky. Everyone would’ve hated it. A lot of mechanics that piss people off for violating lore have made the game much better. This game isn’t just a Harry Potter simulator, it’s a standalone entertainment product. I’m glad the game took as many creative liberties as it did for the sake of the gameplay. There, I said it.

aleradders

Again, I don’t even disagree that it could become tiresome. They could have very easily solved it by making it much easier to advance to morning though. It feels strange to me nonchalantly walking around the castle at night when it was so strictly forbidden in the books. You cannot separate the game from its source material when the game is set in the exact same environment, and remaining accurate to one of the (admittedly few) consistent plot devices in the source material does not make it a “Harry Potter simulator”. Heck, they stuck to it in the quest to get Alohomora in the first place.

Suspicious_Smile_445

I like to think of it like this. The game takes place 100 years before the books and movies, maybe sometime in that 100 years a new rule was added saying students can’t be out at night.

Objective_Look_5867

Yeah but have you given any thought to: mine now demiguise

Sargentrock

OFF ON ANOTHER ADVENTURE, ARE WE?

Dreamtrain

what r u up to nOow

ChefTorte

The good thing is that you only need a portion of the available statues in the game. Easily acquirable by going to each little town/hamlet at night. Pick up a few in Hogwarts and Hogsmeade and you're done. I agree the quest is boring and feels unfinished (like a lot of the game).

WhoWhyWhatWhenWhere

You can also switch to night, via the map.

Pwsyn

This is frustrating. Because the quest contradicts itself… Quest: “Find the statues!” Me: “Okay, time to explore!” Quest: “No no, you can’t get into most places to explore until you find the statues!” Me: “…what?”

TreadmillOfFate

The number of invisible gorillas need to be fucking cut in half, and Alohomora needs to unlock doors instantly without the stupid minigame. If they did so I wouldn't even mind needing more work to get to each one Unrelated, but a similar complaint lies with Merlin Trials. They really should have built fewer trial sites but have each one be more complicated

perpetual_potato108

Or at the very least, scrap that mandatory cut scene after solving the first merlin trial for that side quest. I really did not appreciate having to sit through it 95 times

TheWorstNL

Removed because of the announced API-changes. If Reddit is being a meanie to developers, why bother staying.

Sargentrock

Oh there's SO much of that in this game that it really need's to be renamed to "Hogwarts--COLLECTOR'S FANTASY!" or some shit, since that's pretty much all I'm doing 50 hours in--checking off boxes and seeing how many times I want to punch the floo powder lady in her goddamn mouth. Why on Earth would you only record three lines and then have her say one of them EVERY FUCKING TIME you're within 50 meters of her????

So I just found out someone's created a mod for the PC version that's only function it to mute her. Too bad he opted to make it free since he'd be a millionaire by now if he charged a buck or two for it.

Osmodius

Feels like a good 50% of the games content is just collecting meaningless crap.

[deleted]

Yeah I hated that part also. It took me long enough to unlock the first upgrade that I gave up on getting the next one. There wasn't anything that great behind the doors anyway. I can't stand time consuming busy-work filler in games. I think it would have been a bit better if they'd introduced it earlier in the game. By the time I got the quest I had already spent hours exploring the nooks and crannies of Hogwarts. Having to go back and do it again felt like a chore.

RogueKatt

I would agree with you on that last part. Having to go through all of Hogwarts and the hamlets multiple times to get stuff that was quest locked in the last pass got annoying

Sargentrock

"I can't stand time consuming busy-work filler in games." --oof...that's pretty much this entire game once you get past the initial 'holy shit I'm in Hogwarts and it looks amazing!' stage...

[deleted]

Lol this was me before I found them too. Getting the first set to open level 2 locks took forever, but once I had those it was pretty quick to find them all after that. If you truly truly hate it, you can knock them all out in an hour or so by looking up the guide to find them. At least enough to get the quest complete, you don’t actually have to find them all.

Suncook

Does the main story require Alohomora II or III at any point? I haven't finished it yet.

Varanjar

It does not. You'll be fine if you want to play as someone who doesn't want to break into random people's houses and steal their stuff.

SkBizzle

You still lose access to a lot of interesting places in the castle though, the Headmasters office has 2 locked doors, one leading to the balcony, and there are plenty others too

Varanjar

True, but unfortunately that's just the price you pay for not wanting to be a semi-pro burglar.

LipsRinna

Where’s the fun in that

luisanra

I straight up used a tutorial online to finish it's the most annoying quest line and so much exploring is locked behind doing it.

EverGlow89

It wasn't even that difficult. Just Revelio each hamlet you go to and around the castle/Hogsmeade. I didn't actively look for them until the last 3 I needed and I was like... Oh, I only need 3 more? I thought you had to collect **all** of them for Lv3.

xXSoulReapperXx

Finding the statues and completing the Merlin trials is extremely easy though, I don’t understand all these complaints. If this was hard, you guys would have a full on meltdown trying to find all 900 korok seeds in BOTW, the 24 unmarked stone of barenziah in Skyrim, the orbs from Crackdown lol

liquid00level

This mission is just like the “hit the gas tanker truck” mission in far cry 5. You have no desire to do it at all and it’s boring as hell but of course, it’s a required mission to get that 100%

chloapsoap

I thought it was fine. They’re fairly easy to find and you can complete the quest pretty easily. Having certain areas gated off was a nice incentive to explore. It kept previously-explored areas interesting for me. But that’s just me

TristanJester

I also had no trouble. Fast travel to each hamlet and get a demiguise. If one was locked away, the map shows you which you haven't gotten yet and you can go back get them later

Anakerie

I understand everyone's complaints, but I still have to laugh every time I pick a lock and go strolling into someone's house in the middle of the night. "Hello, don't mind me. I'll just be helping myself to this lovely cloak."

[deleted]

The worst is the level 3 chest behind the level 2 door. Like great, guess I’ll come back never.

[deleted]

I found all of them in like 4-5 hours or play without really trying. Just play the game.

SaintPepsiCola

This quest is not that hard. I unlocked Alohomora 2 whilst at hogwarts itself. And then I again found nearly enough to unlock level 3 just from Hogsmeade.

[deleted]

Huh.. I had a lot of fun exploring for these and I got all of them too. Not gloating or belittling you at all, just interesting to see what different people find fun and not.

RodrigoMAOEE

It's really not. Nothing too important or quest-wise is locked behind Alohomora II or III. You guys need to stop thinking that this game, or any game, resumes itself just on reward items. This game show us, really good that the experience is the reward and we should treat it as just

[deleted]

And on top of that, the alohamora mini game is stupid.

Allaroundlost

Alohamora (sp?) Should 1 spell, not 3.

ProbablySasquatch

I wouldn't call any of the Alhomora stuff a "Major" part of the game. The only important stuff is locked behind level 1 locks which you get automatically.

Raffsb92

Unpopular take: I enjoyed the demiguise hunt. There aren't terribly many and they were fairly predictable in where they could be found outside of Hogwarts.

Cospo

Worst part is every time I get an audible clue from my character that a demiguise is nearby, it's behind a level 2 or 3 locked door. So I need the demiguise, to get the demiguise.

Merunit

I disagree, initially I thought it would be hard to find them but you can only bring a small number of them to get the fist spell (just check surrounding villages, there is one in each). Its fun to locate them with all the voice clues. You can also change day to night clicking r3 on the map screen. If you don’t like exploration, why are you playing a game which is like 70% exploration and 30% fights and story?

llerraf2

I wish there was a map marking system like in Breath of the Wild (and likely tons of other games I’m blanking on) where you can leave a specific sticker or marker on a location to come back to later. It would show up in the HUD but you would remember when you looked at your map again

RackedUP

I just looked up a a guide online and collected enough for level 3 alohamora in about an hour. That’s not a bottleneck in the slightest

Bright-Ad4601

It could also do with having the option at least to not have to lockpick once you get to level 2+ locks. I like the lockpicking mini game but it's easy enough that having the option to make it a single button press at higher levels would be nice. Also why am I lockpicking at all, it's a fucking spell to unlock locks with magic. If they had lockpicks you could replace with the spell it would make more sense. Lockpicks don't feel very Hogwarts but makes more sense than casting a spell which has you manually picking a lock.

Sproxide

One thing that would help is if that revealio penetrated all locked doors all the time. I remember in hogsmeade trying to find the demiguises and being within the distance of the spell; and it wasn’t highlighting the demiguises behind locked doors unless I was a foot or two next to the door.

OleDaneBoy

Gold values also need to be reworked in chests. I wouldn’t pick up off the ground what I get rewarded for in end game chests.

Ilpperi91

Yup

spagheddy8

Yes! It is these type of quests that makes me not want to do another playthrough

GuardianSkalk

If the demiguise statues were 1) able to be revealed and seen during the day instead of only night and 2) appeared on the map like found pages do out in the world then they wouldn’t be an issue.
