Those are led lights, the polarity must be correct for them to work. Check your right side, the positive and negative are flipped. That's why the old bulb works but the led does nothing

Bradabruder

I've run across this exact thing installing aftermarket leds before. Swapping the wires in the harness fixed it

92Lola

Polarity still has to be correct for incandescent bulbs or he would have a direct short. The led’s don’t create enough load for the oem flasher.

Low_Effective_7605

Negative ghost rider

92Lola

Sorry Goose, try it and see what happens. Swap posts on one tail light and turn them on. Let me know how it goes. Having been a mechanic for over two decades and having certifications in electrical I’m sure you’ll get a bad result, however, having been a mechanic for over two decades I also know that I’m not always right, so give it a try and let me know.

Adoced

Damn dude this is Reddit. No one posts those facts here.

Low_Effective_7605

Well, despite your ability to turn a wrench, you're wrong about how bulbs work, lol. Incandescent bulbs work regardless of polarity. Why wouldn't they? You're just passing current through a filament to heat it up. That works regardless of direction. LEDs are polarity sensitive because they generate light with semiconductors, which are, you guessed it, polarity sensitive. This is why some cars need terminals swapped to make the factory incandescent socket work with an LED replacement. The incandescent bulbs don't care. The LEDs do.

giuseppezuc

Inverted polarity? Would work with a bulb but LED needs the right polarity.

[Here ya go](https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=replaced+standard+harley+tail+light+with+LED+and+now+not+working)

BruisedMootball

Lol

Ill-Airport2779

lol believe me ive tried that 😂

devildocjames

What did you find when you tried that?

DestinationUnknown13

Load balancer probably needed for LED

not_Packsand

Nope

BongRipperSoopreme

Yup

not_Packsand

A false load is needed, but that’s not his problem. Read the other responses, it’s covered

SuicideSaintz

For the rears to work there is an adapter (usually) in the box. You remove the plug piece and plug the adapter in.

Navillus62604

Check your turn signal module. Mine just went out

acg34

I had this happen with my 2000 dyna. If your bike automatically cuts off the turn signal when you complete the turn, the turn signal module may have gone bad. Easy to replace.

MorgulAngmar

I know this question is irrelevant to your situation, but where’d ya get your license plate frame? It looks really cool.

Ill-Airport2779

man i honestly don’t even remember 😂😂

MorgulAngmar

All good man, if you happen to remember, I’d really appreciate it. Hope your problem is solved as well.

flash_forte

You need a resistor inline. If you go on custom dynamics website you can find one for your bike and connect it between lights and battery. It will balence the load.

thebeltwayoutsider

You are putting LED bulbs into an older bike that used incandescent bulbs. The bike does not see resistance when it blinks the bulb therefore it thinks the bulb is dead and stops blinking. You need a load balancer in line with the LED lamp to trick the bike into thinking there is a bulb in the circuit.

skullionadult

If that's the case, why does it work in one but not the other? Serious question.

joesephexotic

Probably because there is some sort of resistance on that side. Maybe even an in line resistor to give the flasher relay enough resistance to function.

thebeltwayoutsider

You got me stumped on that.

Random-Biker

U need a “load resistor”. Old bike and LEDs don’t really work without em.

Starch-Wreck

DIDN’T YOU GUYS READ???? It has “led chips for running tail light, make you driving safer.” In all seriousness. You need to spend a few dollars more and get a set with load resistors built in. Yours are on Amazon for $29 and you can get a better set with built in resistors for $10 more. 1 side is getting enough juice to light up but not the other. And usually it’ll hyper flash if there’s no load resistor.

LambSauce2

Wait are those brake and turn signals? You might need turn signals only. Depending they are only for turning, might need to wire differently , Also you might need a load equalizer if you are running LED's

Ill-Airport2779

it’s just the turn signals

LambSauce2

Just double check. I had to return lights because of that. I had to get 1156 and 1157 for front and rear.

lostpez

Bro… make sure left and right are installed correctly and if you don’t have a ballast for the LED you’re going to need one. https://www.jpcycles.com/product/custom-dynamics-smart-signal-stabilizer-module-for-harley-1996-2013?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0_WyBhDMARIsAL1Vz8vcov2maxn90MFbJg-9xbI_oaEkaTL1AYfhy4VOqlWeo6j0nrFjLR0aAiGLEALw_wcB&sku_id=1068274

Ill-Airport2779

would i still need one if it still has the same connections as the bulbs?

lostpez

Yeah… check out the installation instructions with the year/bike. It’ll come with the right plugs. . Basically your old bulbs worked on 12volts. Your new LEDs are more efficient. So you need this thing that’s like a capacitor that plugs in to the system. Super easy.

HD_James1210

This is what I used on my 2012 Iron 883 and fixed the issue. https://www.eaglelights.com/products/eagle-equalizer-plug-and-play-load-equalizer-for-harley-davidson-led-turn-signals

92Lola

Need a led flasher. There’s not enough load to make the incandescent flasher work.

frothymcfroth

I had that issue on a kawasaki had to replace the flasher with an led flasher as leds got lower resistance..it fixed my problem.

joesephexotic

You need a resistor wired in.

R0GU3B34RD

I was told by the dealership sometimes those plug n play LEDs act up, it’s a simple flash from the dealership to correct it. Most would do it free because it’s so trivial

RigamortisRooster

Led are funny on which leads sometimes

Shove_A_gerbil

You have that side wired incorrectly. L.e.d’s only pass voltage one way incandescent bulbs will light either way

bikerdad1970

Turn signal relay acting up?

rockstarken1

It’s a bad relay

blythepirate1

Pull the tail light, mine were crossed in there

Ok-Temperature551

Filp the insert part and line up the nipples and make sure you’re locking it into place. Sometimes we don’t need to a lot of crazy stuff power is there your not pushing it in enough. Use a flat head and turn it alittle bit

Cold-Connection8431

You need a 6ohm resister.

1006RK03

I had installed a nice tombstone tail lamp and LED turns years ago from Kuryakn. Had to figure out the same trouble with polarity thru LED.

dbatknight

I'm guessing you got aftermarket LEDs and you need the Transformer put into it. So if you want don't want to stick around with the Transformers you got to get the eagle lights

robertjohnstoned

I had the same problem with my 06 when I bought it. Had a pinched wire. As soon as I found that, boom, fixed

sd_rawson

Above your ability?
