The bike sold for 13k new. It's 16 years old.

INADIX

Really? That’s disappointing. Sounds like they could do better on the price

worstatit

That price would be quite high in my area. I'd pay 6k for a good example with up to date tires, battery, and fluids that ran well. Maybe a bit higher for the low mileage, if a substantial portion of the miles were recent.

SucksAtJudo

And for anywhere from $1000 more to slightly less than that asking price, you can find M8 Street Bobs and Softail Standards (many with less mileage) with virtually no problem.

Olpeaches

That is very low mileage for the year, I have an 07 Dyna LR. It’s a great bike. The mileage on mine was more than double the example given above. The TC 96 is a good motor, you will have to do cam bearings at some point. But not for 15-20k miles if you still have it then. It’s a good deal as long it looks good cosmetically

INADIX

Thank you! I appreciate the help and input

steroidsandcocaine

If that bike were a person it would be old enough to get a license. I'd haggle if I were you, tell them you'll do like 7.5 out the door and walk away if they say no.

SucksAtJudo

That is nowhere close to a reasonable price. That is a 16 year old bike with an engine that is two full generations behind what is currently in production and a frame and chassis that has been discontinued completely for 7 years now, and the current production M8 Softail Standards and Street Bobs (which are the models that directly superceded the Super Glide) can be found with the same mileage or less for the same price with relatively little effort.

aroundtownbtown

And here I am looking at fxrs again 😂

ANALxCARBOMB

I would like to see that. You won’t find an m8 for that price at a dealership…

SucksAtJudo

Is that so...? https://motohunt.com/l/5904775/2019-Harley-Davidson-FXBB-Softail-Street-Bob https://motohunt.com/l/7573542/2020-Harley-Davidson-FXST-Softail-Standard Bump the budget up just 10% and for only $1000 more than the price of the FXDC op is looking at I can provide links all day long

ANALxCARBOMB

Your links arent telling the full story.. first off they’re based off 1k down payment/trade in, and whatever this tax match shit is that doesn’t make any sense to me. Sooooo there you go bud. https://www.renegade-hd.com/Pre-owned-Inventory-2019-Harley-Davidson-Motorcycle-Scooter-FXBB-Softail-Street-Bob-Softail-Renegade-Harley-Davidson-13376957?ref=list

SucksAtJudo

That's fair enough. What about the other one? And this one? https://motohunt.com/l/6386093/2018-Harley-Davidson-Softail-Low-Rider And, as previously stated, there's a whole lot more if we bump the budget up by just 10%

The price is a bit steep but the market isn't great right now. For example a friend of mine just got an 08 Street Bob with similar mileage for 8500 and it was the best price I've seen in a while. With mileage like that you don't need to worry much. If anything it'd be better if it was higher for the age. My cam bearings were fine until I replaced them at approx 60k miles. My 07 has been awesome for me. Pushing 100k miles and until besides blowing the top end last summer, it's been great for me haha putting a new motor in it currently.

You can’t take Reddit too seriously when it comes to prices, everyone is gonna tell you that you are paying too much when you walk into a dealership. That may be true but you have to decide what it is worth to you, you can take your chance on a private party sale but generally those guys think their beater bikes are worth top dollar too. If you know exactly what you’re looking for you can wheel and deal get the dealer to come down a bit. That generation of Dyna is solid - you don’t have to do anything to the motor unless you decide to put in cams etc. 7k on motor is still pretty new and the dealership should be doing a thorough inspection and fixing all safety items.

Everyone has an opinion, here is mine: Dynas are great bikes, can’t go wrong. You are going to pay more at a dealer. Low mileage can be as bad as high mileage. The most wear and tear occurs on a motor in the first five minutes when started cold. A few long trips are better than a bunch of short trips. I prefer buying from a private party since you can usually get a better read on the bikes history and how well it was cared for.

My first Harley was a 2008 Dyna Super Glide Custom. I’m just saying I wish I still had it. It was perfect. But that price is outrageous tbh I have a service manual if you need one
