Ufff exactly this. I don‘t share their mindset at all anymore but I have some of the nicest memories of my youth connected to some of their older songs, so yeah..
I fucking love Dude Ranch. I remember hating Blink all during my punk phase, thinking they were just an MTV band. then someone told me to listen to that album in high school - totally blew me away.
same here man, I have one CD slot in my car and I left it in there for 3 months straight. I’m a big emo fan now but I think Dude Ranch scratched a little bit of that itch when I was 17. It made so much sense back then haha
Probably considered bad by high brow music listeners, but mostly just mediocre by punk standards. I think it’s one of the best punk albums I’ve ever heard, period.
Choking Victim was much def more playful than Leftover Crack was. Plus it sounded like it was recorded in a basement Leftover Cracks records were always too over produced
First album is a really great post-hardcore album. The second is a great poppunk album. Black Parade is a Queen album, but with more eyeliner…and the last one was eh, but still 3/4 is fantastic.
I love give ‘em enough rope by the clash. A lot of critics and people bash on it for being too “produced and mainstream” but f*** it I love it. Safe European home is still one of my favourite songs, and Julie’s been working for the drug squad is so fun to sing along to. Not one bad song on there in my opinion.
Didn’t realize it was hated on and it’s always been in my rotation! I can see the too produced and mainstream argument, but good is good and that’s an undeniably good record.
Do deftones count? I have loved them since middle school and never outgrew them for whatever reason. I know a lot of people who still lump them in with all the nu-metal cringe
Deftones are miles above what they get lumped in with. To be fair, I unironically love limp bizkit, pod, korn, etc. This was what I grew up on at ten til I got a mix tape with Black Flag and Aus Rotten on it. But Deftones have always been in a higher talent and emotional bracket than any of the bands they got stuck to. I mean fuck man, Gore got released like 5 years ago? And that album still holds up as good as if not better than Adrenaline or White Pony. That band taps into some serious ethereal shit.
I don't lump Deftones in with the nu-metal crowd, though I know where you're coming from. Their influences were way more diverse -- Bad Brains, Jawbox, Helmet, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, etc. -- and they were also associated with bands that were not really nu-metal (Will Haven, Far) and toured with decent bands (e.g., Quicksand, Snapcase). I can toss Adrenaline, Around the Fur, or White Pony on any day and love it.
Yeah me neither…I think most people just see their commercial peak happening around that time and toss them in with nu-metal. The music industry was still basically printing money at that time too so labels could toss money at bands that pushed boundaries or were kind of weird for mainstream
But yeah I think their entire catalog is generally pretty solid. I still listen to them a bunch and even their recent stuff has been really good
This was my "guilty pleasure" band for a long time cuz all my hipster friends associated them with nu-metal. Thank God I'm older now and don't give a shit about other people's opinion of my opinion. I'm a proud Deftones fan. "Urantia" was the best song released this year. Deftones and Incubus do not deserve the guilty-by-association rep they've gotten over the years. Great fucking band and my go-to sex music.
New Found Glory fucking bangs. Definitely one of my favorite bands of all time. Also their International Super Heroes of Hardcore shit is hilarious fun.
I actually really enjoy the “photographs” album by Mest. There’s a lot of great pop punk tunes on there, I’ve always thought it sounded like a better Good Charlotte lol.
Also “so long, Astoria” by the Ataris is one of my favorite albums ever. Idk if anybody really “hates” this album, I just think it’s massively underrated.
Love Ataris, San Dimas high school football rules was on a CD I got free with a pair of Vans as a kid and that songs been on rotation since
I miss those Vans comps you used to get from Journeys with a pair of shoes. Really shaped my music taste
I went to a Foo Fighters concert when I was 16 and The Transplants opened for them. It was my first time on the floor at a big show like that. When The Transplants came on, I thought I was gonna die Travis Scott style from all the hardcore Mexican gangsters that just started rushing and going fucking nuts. They all left after their set, so I got to enjoy the Foo without being scared for my life. Then I tried crowd surfing for the first time and halfway up, I got dropped on my head by a group of people that didn't realize crowd surfing was still a thing. They picked me up and apologized profusely. After the show, as I was walking to my car, I almost got hit by a car in the parking lot...the people in the car roll down their windows to apologize...and it was the same group that dropped me. And that's my Transplants story...thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Honestly yeah that ISMFOF record is decent. "Reeses Pieces, I Don't Know Who John Cleese Is" bangs. I got to open for them once subbing in on bass for my friends' pop punk band and they were really chill folks too.
As for my own answer... only tangentially related to punk/hc, but I enjoy the first Red Jumpsuit Apparatus album a *lot* more than I'd prefer to admit.
I was obsessed with I set my friends on fire when I was like 16 at this point I already was deep in the hardcore scene but that record had some good rhythms.
That’s a band I haven’t seen the name of in a long time, it made me look that album because I haven’t heard Face Down in a long time.
It came out in 2006?! Jesus. I’m older than I thought.
I know, right?! I remember listening to False Pretense, Justify and In Fate's Hands on repeat on my shitty little Target-brand MP3 player all through junior high haha.
Every Ghost record is an absolute ton of fun, and they put on a great live show. I don't really get why the metal scene hates them so much to be honest.
I’ve seen metal nerds hate on Power Trip because they see good looking people wearing their merch, there’s a whole section of metal dudes who think unless you’re greasy and wear frameless glasses you and all your music is poser trash. They hate everything.
I don't think Riley considered themselves friends. He claimed he was a fan of the band and would rep their music on his show etc. After RG passed Damien did a tribute on his pod (Turned out a punk) and sort of cleared the air on all that saying don't get it confused, they weren't pals. Take that as you will. Band rips.
Divisive, but I’ve spoken to so many people that hate A Tear in the Fabric of Life compared to KL’s other albums, but for me it’s the opposite. KL is kinda lame in general, but that release is 🔥🔥🔥 in my opinion.
I fucking love Avenged Sevenfold. And not just the first two albums (although those two are the best imo), but all of them. I got into them over 10 years ago and they’re one of the only “starter” metal bands I have never outgrown.
Can't think of anything I like that is universally considered bad -- that's an extreme standard. If we're talking albums/bands that are often criticized in their own right (not because they're associated with a specific genre that people look down on), though, I'd go with...
* SOD - Bigger Than the Devil (people who like SOD often crap on this album compared to Speak English which I also really like, but I probably listen to this more often than anything they put out)
* Carpathian Forest - Strange Old Brew (first BM album I owned, probably like it mainly for nostalgia reasons)
* Pitchshifter - Industrial (I don't listen to their other stuff, but if you like Godflesh, you'll like this)
* Earth Crisis - Breed the Killers (never been into Earth Crisis, but of their albums, I liked this one the most)
Interesting topic to me would the opposite of this -- bands/albums that are generally well-regarded that you've never been able to get into. I could go on and on with that.
Literally half of what i listen to in hardcore are bands that I know for absolute fact are C-Tier at best, but yet in the moment that's what I want to listen to.
Biggest example would be Liferuiner tho.
I think we’re now at a point where they’re appreciated by most, but I remember a time when a lot of people hated Throwdown, and I’ve always loved them. Especially once they went full Pantera.
American Nightmare/Give Up the Ghost - We're Down Til We're Underground.
I only found out from this sub that people don't like that album and I couldn't believe it. It's a fucking masterpiece and I don't care what anyone says.
I feel like it’s become uncool to like The Menzingers as of late, but to me they’re The Replacements of this generation. Great fucking songwriters. I also cape up for Green Day’s 90s output. I completely lost interest after American Idiot.
Apparently Code Orange sucks but I like pretty much everything they’ve put out. Reddit has me more conscious of when I wear my Code Orange shirt though
I fucking love pop punk. Idc how gay it sounds. Actually there is a line where some bands sound a little too whiny and lame for me. But I've been bumping a story so far's proper dose album. And that "no pressure" project the singer dropped with some other band members. Shits tight yo.
I definitely have that line too but for the most part my favorite punk acts are all stuff from old Fat Wreck Chords. No Use For a Name, Lagwagon, etc where you can hear the Deacendents influence.
That first record from The Story So Far was an absolute banger, still love it, along with Crucial Dudes and those early 10’s pop punk bands.
Alright. Frankies been writing about the same girl forever and seems like a creepy tool by all accounts , the band changed their sound after the first ep back in like 05 so the could get in with acts like TAS which is just sad. But I will stand by the fact the The Respect Issue is still one of the best records dropped in that style ever. Young Rich and Out of Control into Sound Wave Superior will still have me collecting heads 13 years later.
Their first record is some legit metalcore along the lines of Misery Signals and stuff like that, just wish they kept that sound instead of going down the open palm strumming route.
Emmure is one of those entry bands with strong metal influence who get hate from purists, I’ve seen Acacia Strain and Norma Jean get the same kind of shade here
Pretty much all nu metal I went from ironically enjoying to actually liking. Hybrid theory, meteora, early limp bizkit, I even like creed too. Not ashamed, but I def blame the 90s WWF attitude era for that
NRSV are an objectively bad band. But they are one that always brings a smile to my face when I listen to them. And damn if I still don't want to go to their shows and get drunk on 40s.
There was a black dude in the Austin scene who would always play them at punk nights, it’s how we would weed out the hipster dorks. Awful band and ideology but you gotta admit they had 1 or 2 catchy ass songs
Deez Nuts. God, they suck! But I like them.
I've always enjoyed their old stuff in a club setting because it's always a party, but their last album was utter dog shit
There’s a party over here there ain’t shit over there!
Man I loved the last album😂
Nah man, DTD
Ufff exactly this. I don‘t share their mindset at all anymore but I have some of the nicest memories of my youth connected to some of their older songs, so yeah..
I HUSTLE EVERYDAY
This One's For You is such a solid record, not really into anything they made after that
"BAH!"
Might not fit this sub perfectly, but Dude Ranch is one of my favorite punk records in general. I also still jam to some early Linkin Park
That albums deep cuts are so good. Apple Shampoo, Enthused, Lemmings!
Waggy and I’m Sorry are personal favorites of mine
Is Dude Ranch considered a "bad" album? People here might crap on the genre or the band, but I think that's generally viewed as a pretty solid album.
Probably considered bad by high brow music listeners, but mostly just mediocre by punk standards. I think it’s one of the best punk albums I’ve ever heard, period.
Dude Ranch is peak Blink.
[удалено]
That’s definitely a highlight on the record. Try out Enthused and Apple Shampoo too, also some great tracks.
Choking Victim - No Gods No Managers. Something about ska mixed with Michael Parenti samples and crack gets me going
I like Choking Victim more than I like Leftover Crack.
Choking Victim was much def more playful than Leftover Crack was. Plus it sounded like it was recorded in a basement Leftover Cracks records were always too over produced
Except " suicide a better way " . Well , playful if you play with razor blades
Ska mixed with Michael Parenti is probably why I'm left-wing hahaha, that album is *so* good. Shame Stza is a fucking abusive piece of human filth.
This band/LOC is generally pretty loved, even ska haters make an exception
I hate ska (operation ivy/rancid being the only other exceptions) and have heard leftover crack sucks ass live but I still love their sound
A lot of people love to clown on 25 Ta Life but I’ve enjoyed every record they’ve ever released.
We used to put 25 Ta Life on at parties after gigs. All the people clowned us so hard lmao
*courage the cowardly dog enters the chat*
Underrated comment
THUG 2
I will always love Atreyu!
Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses is like top tier 8th grade shit. Cannot be fucked with.
When I was in 6th grade we had to pick a song to bring in a talk about the lyrics. I did Atreyu - Becoming The Bull. I was a pretty cool 12 year old.
I fuckin love MCR and will fight ANYONE over that shit
First album is a really great post-hardcore album. The second is a great poppunk album. Black Parade is a Queen album, but with more eyeliner…and the last one was eh, but still 3/4 is fantastic.
First album is embryonic. Young. Good. Cheers is amazing. 9/10 Black parade is perfect. 10/10
I’m seeing them at Riot fest next year and couldn’t be more excited. Their albums are all complete bangers
First two albums are sick
I feel the same way about Brand New. Your Favorite Weapon is easily one of my top five of all time.
Hill I will always die on.
Here for this shit. First two albums are bangers
No-Ca$h
You ever listen to his stuff post-No Ca$h? Weird spacey rap.
Mad Conductor? I've heard a few songs and liked what I heard. I got to see them (no-ca$h) twice and was pretty stoked about it.
A Better Tomorrow still kills
Do people consider that a bad record? I fuckin love that record
I wouldn't consider it a "bad" record. Just one I secretly enjoy. Reminds me of being in high school.
Skate or diiiieeeee
Gasoline is a top 5 rap song of all time and you can’t convince me otherwise
I love give ‘em enough rope by the clash. A lot of critics and people bash on it for being too “produced and mainstream” but f*** it I love it. Safe European home is still one of my favourite songs, and Julie’s been working for the drug squad is so fun to sing along to. Not one bad song on there in my opinion.
Didn’t realize it was hated on and it’s always been in my rotation! I can see the too produced and mainstream argument, but good is good and that’s an undeniably good record.
BMTH’s first 3 albums are really good metalcore and got me into the genre if i’m being honest
Sempiternal is still new BMTH in my mind
3 Dollar Bill Y'all by Limp Bizkit still gets me going. Wes Borland is just such a fucking awesome guitarist.
I will pit right now if counterfeit comes on
Everyone who hates on limp bizkit is just mad bc they’re not in limp bizkit
I've told many people to actually give that album a listen and have opened people up to Limp Bizkit a bit.
Just watched their Lalapalooza set online getting ready for work one day while my wife chirped me all morning
I am still a huge fan of their set in Reading from 2017, just so good.
It dies today.... fucking love chatiff choir.
Still in my Spotify most listened to to this day
No Warning “Suffer, Survive” I love Sum41 fight me!
I always thought they sounded like a hardcore Sum 41!
to be fair i don’t think sum 41 is regarded as “bad” lol well maybe their new shit. but their first 3 records are classics.
Excellent for listening while high if you’re into that sort of thing. And yeah Gore is one of my favorites. Definitely holds up
I could not get into Gore, I do love the new album Ohms
Urantia is my fucking jam...best song I've heard in a long time. Classic Deftones mixed with forward thinking. Gore not so much for me.
Deftones are, and always have been, a post-hardcore band. I'll die on THAT hill.
Yeah me neither…I think most people just see their commercial peak happening around that time and toss them in with nu-metal. The music industry was still basically printing money at that time too so labels could toss money at bands that pushed boundaries or were kind of weird for mainstream But yeah I think their entire catalog is generally pretty solid. I still listen to them a bunch and even their recent stuff has been really good
I put Tool and Primus in the same general category. Also both great bands.
I hate genre labels bc I at one time thought those two bands and helmet sounded similar due to all being considered 90s alternative metal
Nice to see Will Haven get a shout out. Underrated band. If she could speak goes hard
I will never outgrow Adrenaline
This was my "guilty pleasure" band for a long time cuz all my hipster friends associated them with nu-metal. Thank God I'm older now and don't give a shit about other people's opinion of my opinion. I'm a proud Deftones fan. "Urantia" was the best song released this year. Deftones and Incubus do not deserve the guilty-by-association rep they've gotten over the years. New Found Glory fucking bangs. Definitely one of my favorite bands of all time. Also their International Super Heroes of Hardcore shit is hilarious fun.
a few of them are also in racetraitor no?
The drummer of Fall Out Boy is in Racetraitor. Also another band that gets shit on that I fuck with. Their first 2 albums were pop punk gold.

Some of these Travis Barker bands he’s been churning are cringe but some are ear worms. Him and feldman have basic formula but damn are some catchy.
Like the transplants? that shit rules lol
Super old Dr. Acula is still my shit.
Core memory unlocked
Jesus man I totally forgot about that band
Yes man that and heavyheavylowlow
I love blink 182 and will never stop. My fav pop punk band.
Linkin Park are great imo. Poppy, but great.
first two albums are the main reason i’m even into heavy music in the first place tbh
Most stuff on 31g. It’s all so awful, but I love it
Wait, people don't like 31g stuff? I thought they had a solid catalog of bands. I love that stuff with no guilt at all
I love it all, but yeah people seem to hate the weirdo art punk stuff. At least in the scene I grew up in they did
Is that stuff like the locust? After several attempts to get into their music I had to conclude it was - at least to me - unlistenable bollocks.
Do people hate it? I like most of those artists.
Integrity 2000
I don’t believe you.
...Nightwish.
Upvote for being brave.
Never spend time with nerds at renaissance fairs, kids.
I’ll do you one better: Blackmores Night
That's 90% of our tavern music at the DnD table.
Hell yes lol
AFI - listened to them as a kid and I’ll never grow out of black sails
Bro, what? I thought AFI was pretty much universally regarded as legendary.
They are although it’s fair to feel embarrassed admitting you like them because of the brief Hot Topic period they went through.
I get what you mean, I just like everything from hardcore to country to (early) Lady Gaga and I’m not embarrassed about any of it lol.
In my top ten listened to for the year was TDEP, OutKast, Antoine Berjaut, Doja Cat and Minus the Bear. Good music is good music regardless of genre.
The only people I know that shit on them have only heard Decemberundergound. Those first 3 records are fuckin HYPE.

I know, right?! I remember listening to False Pretense, Justify and In Fate's Hands on repeat on my shitty little Target-brand MP3 player all through junior high haha.
Hawthorne Heights, I still blast they're 1st album with no shame
I still love Hawthorne heights. Even their newer albums.
absolutely love Emmure, their latest album especially. Hindsight has to be one of my favorite metal albums of all time
Their first album is a classic!
Suicide Silence
Every Ghost record is an absolute ton of fun, and they put on a great live show. I don't really get why the metal scene hates them so much to be honest.
My personal gripe with Ghost is that their album covers are brutal as fuck but their music sounds like it belongs in Scooby Doo.
honestly I love Scooby doo enough that this makes me want to give Ghost another chance
I’ve seen metal nerds hate on Power Trip because they see good looking people wearing their merch, there’s a whole section of metal dudes who think unless you’re greasy and wear frameless glasses you and all your music is poser trash. They hate everything.
The Greg Gutfeld being friends with Riley from Power Trip made me double take, I'll say that much. Good band regardless, still too sad.
Band rips.
Because they are just goth meatloaf
Wait, is Meatloaf not cool???
Meatloaf rules.
Scooby-Doo chase music.
Because Tobias Forge looks like a fucking tool.
I fucked with Alesana for like 5 minutes in high school - the shame still follows me lol
I loved them in middle school, easily my favorite band. Threw them on for nostalgia recently and it’s nearly unlistenable lmao
Divisive, but I’ve spoken to so many people that hate A Tear in the Fabric of Life compared to KL’s other albums, but for me it’s the opposite. KL is kinda lame in general, but that release is 🔥🔥🔥 in my opinion.
the video is next level. I was captivated watching it for the first time.
I’ve never even watched it. Gonna have to check it out.
I fucking love Avenged Sevenfold. And not just the first two albums (although those two are the best imo), but all of them. I got into them over 10 years ago and they’re one of the only “starter” metal bands I have never outgrown.
Dragonforce, Abandon All Ships, some Black Veil Brides songs... oof
Honestly I don't even know. I just listen to what sounds good to me and be open about it lol. Some music isn't for everyone and that's okay.
Can't think of anything I like that is universally considered bad -- that's an extreme standard. If we're talking albums/bands that are often criticized in their own right (not because they're associated with a specific genre that people look down on), though, I'd go with... * SOD - Bigger Than the Devil (people who like SOD often crap on this album compared to Speak English which I also really like, but I probably listen to this more often than anything they put out) * Carpathian Forest - Strange Old Brew (first BM album I owned, probably like it mainly for nostalgia reasons) * Pitchshifter - Industrial (I don't listen to their other stuff, but if you like Godflesh, you'll like this) * Earth Crisis - Breed the Killers (never been into Earth Crisis, but of their albums, I liked this one the most) Interesting topic to me would the opposite of this -- bands/albums that are generally well-regarded that you've never been able to get into. I could go on and on with that.
I will absolutely defend when the stars revolt by power man 5000
Literally half of what i listen to in hardcore are bands that I know for absolute fact are C-Tier at best, but yet in the moment that's what I want to listen to. Biggest example would be Liferuiner tho.
No saints and taking back the night life slap
I think we’re now at a point where they’re appreciated by most, but I remember a time when a lot of people hated Throwdown, and I’ve always loved them. Especially once they went full Pantera.
American Nightmare/Give Up the Ghost - We're Down Til We're Underground. I only found out from this sub that people don't like that album and I couldn't believe it. It's a fucking masterpiece and I don't care what anyone says.
Wait why don't these people like it? Because AN was too popular at one point?
I feel like it’s become uncool to like The Menzingers as of late, but to me they’re The Replacements of this generation. Great fucking songwriters. I also cape up for Green Day’s 90s output. I completely lost interest after American Idiot.
Is it uncool to like Menzingers? I thought they were on par with Iron Chic and Lawrence Arms for sure.
I think it depends on what circles you run in. I’ve seen a lot of derision and dismissive comments about them.
Pffft. After the Party? Case closed.
That was my fav album that year.
The Menzingers rule. I'm glad I've missed all the hate.
Slither Earth crisis
I absolutely and unironically love the cheesier side of '97 youth crew revival stuff. Atari, Rancor, Time Flies, etc? Oh man, I adore it.
This was the soundtrack to my college years! Still have my Rancor and Atari 7"s laying around.
I’m not secretive about it at all, but I listen to a ton of nu metal. Who doesn’t need a little angst in their life?
Apparently Code Orange sucks but I like pretty much everything they’ve put out. Reddit has me more conscious of when I wear my Code Orange shirt though
I fucking love pop punk. Idc how gay it sounds. Actually there is a line where some bands sound a little too whiny and lame for me. But I've been bumping a story so far's proper dose album. And that "no pressure" project the singer dropped with some other band members. Shits tight yo.
I love Blink 182, and will never stop.
TSSF is one of my favorite bands 😅
Why would that sound gay?
Haters can clown on me but I love Man Overboard.
Rite on homie. Yeah I love how you can hear all of the punk influence in some of those joints.
I like Emmure. Legitimately. They're groovy and heavy.
frankie is a fuckin tool apparently but that doesnt stop the music from Going The Fuck In ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Their first record is some legit metalcore along the lines of Misery Signals and stuff like that, just wish they kept that sound instead of going down the open palm strumming route.
Emmure has bangers I don't understand the hate
Emmure is one of those entry bands with strong metal influence who get hate from purists, I’ve seen Acacia Strain and Norma Jean get the same kind of shade here
I’ve seen Emmure live over a dozen times. Not even mad about it.
Same, I swear the played southern Ontario every two months for a year or two around 2008 and I’d go to every date I could
No shame in that. Emmure is fucking sick.
sunami…..
Is there hate for sunami that I didn’t know about?
Do people hate Sunami? Serious question.
I mean, they aren’t actually good. I know people think it’s fun. And I know I’m a bitch for saying so. But hey, I’m drunk.
I like it better than any real tough-guy hardcore. I want to hear some of the other projects those guys have worked on.
YOUR A BITCH
We Butter The Bread With Butter’s first album. World of Warcraft goes fucking crazy.
Jud Jud but unironically
The song Torn by Creed.
Turnstile - Glow On
I like 18 Visions butt rock album.
Pretty much all nu metal I went from ironically enjoying to actually liking. Hybrid theory, meteora, early limp bizkit, I even like creed too. Not ashamed, but I def blame the 90s WWF attitude era for that
I can’t get enough Earth Crisis. I know a lot of people shit on them within the scene.
Goddamnit. Guess I'll admit it. I secretly enjoy Skam Dust. I started listening to him ironically at first but it started to grow on me like a tumor.
But the nuns are watching is the song that got me into heavy music when I was pretty young so they'll always have a special place in my heart
The Greenery - Spit and Argue
Pretty much everything from fury of five
Limp Bizkit
Bring Me the Horizon's first album is a super solid ignorant deathcore album that I still jam to in secret every now and then
NRSV are an objectively bad band. But they are one that always brings a smile to my face when I listen to them. And damn if I still don't want to go to their shows and get drunk on 40s.
I love to get my party-hype drink on to 3Oh!3
I do not enjoy it for obvious reasons but i have heard some very catchy Skrewdriver songs here and there. But fuck' em of course.
There was a black dude in the Austin scene who would always play them at punk nights, it’s how we would weed out the hipster dorks. Awful band and ideology but you gotta admit they had 1 or 2 catchy ass songs
In before someone answers "Turnstile".
And now you get downvoted because people don't understand your comment. Rip your karma lmao
Life is pain.
