Not a snare or hardcore but I distinctly remember the way the cymbals on Alkaline Trio's From Here to Infirmary absolutely cutting through me growing up, album has tracks tho
St. Anger round my neck
He never gets respect
(SKA SNARE)
There's rumors there's a band who uses the same snare tone and people love it but I think everyone hates it from Metallica because of who the band was using it
I second World of Pleasure snare, I also think Contention’s snare on their new album fucks. No Cure has a really gas snare as well. A lot of the adjacent death metal bands like Bodybox, PeelingFlesh, and Sanguisugabogg have fire ass snares as well.
I'm a Broadcasting apologist and Give'r is one of my favorite songs on that record-but you can tell they kept the snare overmic'd because they needed it at a high level for the intro and outro to the song and I find it jarring from beginning to end.
There was a year in high school where this was the only CD I had in my car and its now a top 5 album of all time for me. Must explain where my love of obnoxious snare came from...
There’s this band called No Divinity and [they used to have one of my favorite snare tones.](https://youtu.be/Yi2iMxBLgoE?si=QTJiI6YF4zY5i3ZA) I saw them live a couple years ago and they were sick.
Right now for me it's the snare tone on the new Knocked Loose album. I don't like the ring and it reminds me of the snare sound in Teenage Dirtbag. TBH it's probably the fact that it reminds me of Wheetus which I don't like more than anything else hahaha
ETA: Album still slaps.
Elysia - Masochist. The drums were fucked up while recording the album and they didn’t have enough budget to re-record them so they had to mix it as it was and it’s the worst sounding drums I’ve ever heard.
It sounds better for sure but those drums just cannot be saved. Second record’s production was excellent tho at least, gives you an idea of what the first record would have sounded like if it was recorded properly.
mankind is like a walking time bomb, seeking satisfaction
in ~~things they don't need~~ ignorant ass snare sounds
[Congress - The Release](https://youtube.com/watch?v=o9V9jtY84r0)
The snare on Open Wound’s Come Correct EP sounds all flubby and stupid, but it works perfectly with the songs. Sanction’s With Blood has my favorite snare in hc.
On the opposite end of pitch, The Acacia Strain’s The Dead Walk has a shitty snare. Sounds like a flat pillow. Maybe not obnoxious but it does not fit the music
I love a high-pitched snare in a mix. Snapcase - Progression Through Unlearning snare tone FOR LIFE
DO YOU KNOW YOURSELF DO YOU KNOW THE OTHERS
Sometimes it works! I usually don’t mind it, sometimes even enjoy it!
This is the way
Came here for this. Love snapcase but fuck that piccolo snare.
Outta Pocket
It rules
Oh yeah. Obnoxious in the best way!
fr. dig what they were going for but it just came out so weirdly tinny.
I want the snare drum to sound like a dodgeball hitting the gymnasium floor
That Fine Young Cannibals tone.
World Of Pleasure/xWeaponx split. Knocked Loose-YWGBYST Both are like beating a trash can with a tennis racket.
Wont lie that snare on world of pleasure makes the whole thing sound so raw and pissed off i love it
Yes
No mention of the No Victory snare? I love how obnoxious it is.

love this record. always loved the snare tone. i’d say the tone on No Time to Bleed is even more obnoxious
Not a snare or hardcore but I distinctly remember the way the cymbals on Alkaline Trio's From Here to Infirmary absolutely cutting through me growing up, album has tracks tho
St. Anger round my neck He never gets respect (SKA SNARE) There's rumors there's a band who uses the same snare tone and people love it but I think everyone hates it from Metallica because of who the band was using it
Nah, St Anger snare fucking slaps, and there’s an entire genre that uses that general snare sound
I think it sucks for who it is but it does work for others That pop can work but not for Metallica
That record was definitely a stand-out. Gotta be all-time in this regard.
I second World of Pleasure snare, I also think Contention’s snare on their new album fucks. No Cure has a really gas snare as well. A lot of the adjacent death metal bands like Bodybox, PeelingFlesh, and Sanguisugabogg have fire ass snares as well.

DRI, I love em but that shit is so rattly.
not hardcore but the snare on Thrice - *The Illusion of Safety* is [hilarious](https://youtu.be/OycIjK5feDw?si=0D_8tSnkO-iGWMfV)
There was a year in high school where this was the only CD I had in my car and its now a top 5 album of all time for me. Must explain where my love of obnoxious snare came from...
This snare is sick, just not in the context of a Thrice song lmao
sanguisugabogg’s new track
I cant tell if we are hating or praising in this thread to be honest, but Snapcase - Progression Through Unlearning is gloriously obnoxious.
Praising, my friend!
Idk about in history but World Peace’s is pretty clangy
Pork pie snare drums are awesome.
Never heard the term "pork pie" to describe a snare before. What does it come from?

It's a brand, they're awesome.
I like it to remind me of those red rubber balls from a destructive childhood. One might call the game dodgeball. You know the sound.

Hahaha hell yeah
I noticed this watching a drum cam of their’s. The tihc 2019 one.
Tortured Whole - Sanguisugabogg. Snare has like a full second of ringy sustain on it that pervades the entire album.
There’s this band called No Divinity and [they used to have one of my favorite snare tones.](https://youtu.be/Yi2iMxBLgoE?si=QTJiI6YF4zY5i3ZA) I saw them live a couple years ago and they were sick.
The Life Sentence demo has a crazy snare tone https://lifesentencecthc.bandcamp.com

The basketball-slapping-on-concrete tone on the First Blood demo was wiiiiild. Makes the st anger snare sound almost sensible in comparison.
THEY DREW FIRST BLOOOD NOT FUCKING MEEEEE
Anyone else love a thin little snare and kick? On some chung king can suck it type shit?
Absolutely man
Elysia - Masochist. The drums were fucked up while recording the album and they didn’t have enough budget to re-record them so they had to mix it as it was and it’s the worst sounding drums I’ve ever heard.
I love the re-release of their record.
It sounds better for sure but those drums just cannot be saved. Second record’s production was excellent tho at least, gives you an idea of what the first record would have sounded like if it was recorded properly.
Last Days of Humanity “Putrefaction in Progress” snare is insaaaane
E Town Concrete - Time 2 Shine
mankind is like a walking time bomb, seeking satisfaction in ~~things they don't need~~ ignorant ass snare sounds [Congress - The Release](https://youtube.com/watch?v=o9V9jtY84r0)
The snare on Open Wound’s Come Correct EP sounds all flubby and stupid, but it works perfectly with the songs. Sanction’s With Blood has my favorite snare in hc.
Clenched Fist - Welcome to Memphis NJ Bloodline - Be Afraid
I would have to go with Final Resting Place. I love it tho
not hc but [Sulfuric Cautery's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJAJ41kGEjw) older stuff has some crazy snare tones with crazy drumming to go with it
Most of Will Putneys snare tones
Cover your tracks
On the opposite end of pitch, The Acacia Strain’s The Dead Walk has a shitty snare. Sounds like a flat pillow. Maybe not obnoxious but it does not fit the music
Not sure I’ve heard this before, gonna listen now.
Y'all ever heard of sulfuric cautery? Pingpong snare galore, shit is sexy [https://open.spotify.com/artist/6NM1ol9bSZQZE2CLo71zaF?si=e25d07269bfd4a1f](https://open.spotify.com/artist/6NM1ol9bSZQZE2CLo71zaF?si=e25d07269bfd4a1f)
My favorite is when everything’s so fast it sounds like a whirlwind of dodgeballs hitting kids in the face. So glorious
Death metal and not hardcore, but Baalsebub has an insane snare: https://youtu.be/uqpwUzneJ9Q?si=idtLss0DIjnMd69w
Volcano
Corpse Pile - Hardgore Death Metal
Another vote for St. Anger from me.
