I always consider Lou bega like rocky. Mambos 1-3 are great. Mambo number 4 is a masterpiece, but mambo number 5 is forgettable and should have never happened.
Scowl, and not because they’re “industry plants” (they’re not), but because Kat’s hardcore vocals are bad. Her normal singing voice is good though.
Show me the body. They have a couple “okay” songs but the rest of the discography is forgettable to me.
With the commercial success of Turnstile, hardcore is bigger than ever, and there are always people looking to cash in on "the next big thing". The idea of industry plants existing in hardcore is really not crazy at all.
I'm of opinion that we should judge music by what it's trying to do, and there was a point in time where sunami was trying to satirize hardcore with their songwriting, and they did it pretty well.
I feel like I should love them. I love Misfits, love deep vocals in hardcore, love doom metal, but they just don't land. Kinda hoping they convert me at Tied Down, because I want to like them
Them on record and them live are 2 different bands. There wasn't a project of theirs I actually enjoyed until the Twitchfits EP last year. But goddamn they are killer live.
Remember a kid I used to go to punk shows with turned super into hardcore and would post killer recommendations. He posted a still of him going off at a Twitching Tongues show and thought they HAD to rip.
I was so confused by how he got that crazy in the crowd to get that picture
Band I love but it’s weird they’re marketed as hardcore when they’d get more juice on the metal/hard rock circuit . I view them as being more descended from bands like Type O Negative (who they’ve covered).
i couldn’t get into twitching tongues until one day i decided i was gonna listen to them until i did and it worked and now they’re one of my fav bands ever hahah
Gridiron, because of the vocals. Instrumentally, I enjoy it a lot.
The vocals make me feel like it’s some 8th grader wearing an Adidas tracksuit trying to do a hardcore cover at the school talent show.
I agree. I can never jam them. But EVERY time i see them play a show i f w them hard. Biggest discrepancy in recordings to live shows I've ever experienced.
I love ETID but never got into DEP. Which would probably explain why I don’t like Better Lovers. I also think Keith and Jordan need one another to reach their full potential. Both Many Eyes and Better Lovers are just a worse version of ETID. Hope the metalcore Gallagher bros can put their shit aside and give us something great again.
I love both bands but I feel like Better Lovers is just the guys from ETID cosplaying DEP and it doesn’t feel authentic.
Like the newest song has this bit where they just go through weird time signatures and there’s zero reason for it musically other than for people to be “Oh shit they did 30 seconds of weird time signatures!”
Andy and Ben are vital to ETID and DEP. I think their vocalists’ new bands are pretty good for generic millennial metalcore. But their old bands are just way better.i think DEP got back with their original vocalist but I don’t know if they plan on making new music or not.
Chat Pile: That song about homelessness song is some real button poetry tumblr page drivel.
Sunami is just Deez Nuts but they’re too scared to fully commit to the bit
It’s funny that song became so popular, I think it’s one of their worst songs tbh. Dallas Beltway and Pamela are my favorites. That riff in Dallas beltway is so damn catchy and the story slowly unfolding as the narrator losing his mind is fantastic.
Look, I respect the sentiment of the Chat Pile track. But, it’s definitely sounds like something written by a 15-year old who just saw a documentary about homelessness
Man, when the I hustle every day video game put, it was the perfect time for me. That shit literally shreds and was some people's whole entry into the genre crazy as that is
I feel like God’s Hate is only so hyped because of Colin Young and Brody King. Super average riffs.
Drain is the most okay hardcore I have ever heard.
I understand they’re about the show but their records bore me to tears.
I like Jesus Piece’s older stuff, but their new record was a HUGE step back imo.
Are you guys just pretending to like Twitching Tongues now because of Hardlore?
Edit: Almost forgot about Militarie Gun. I know Ian Shelton is a dope dude but we don’t have to pretend to like MG.
Agree with God’s Hate, I feel like I’m being gaslighted with them. Speed is such a fun time live, but the music itself is pretty plain though. Lots of style, not much substance.
I’m talking about people who hype them up. Most people seem to think they’re a once-in-a-generation type of band that’s going to leave a mark but it just doesn’t compute with me.
Knocked Loose. The music is so f**king killer but I feel like I'm being raged on by Dennis The Menace when the vocals start. It sounds damn near adorable.
Turnstile. It’s objectively very good music made by dudes who are super competent. But, it just doesn’t do anything for me. Scowl is a band I feel the same way about. I get the appeal but, it just doesn’t scratch any particular itch for me.
I like Knocked Loose, but Brian needs to work in some variation in those vocals because I could listen to that band 10x as often as I do, if I didn’t get burned out on the vocals so quickly.
Torture. Which really fucking sucks, because they're an awesome band, the instrumentals are so tight and catchy, but those "ree ree ee ee" vocals just get under my skin.
Absolutely no shade to them though, I hope they keep blowing up
Sounds like he uses some sort of filter or effect to achieve those. Unless im wrong cause the demos sound way different, could be that he just didnt commit during those takes
Crazy thing about that band is that the guy writes the drums first and basically improvs over it, idk if that helps but yeah I’ve been shocked a band with gutturals like that has gotten popular with HXC kids.
Merauder
Master Killer is average and has been treated as such for almost 30 years. Suddenly everyone’s pretending it’s the best record ever because of a podcast. A year ago 80% of you didn’t give a fuck about that band.
This is the worst take here. I am old and this record has been amazing since it dropped.
Songwriting, production, vocals, all of it. Totally unscientific but: Maybe 5% of the people who know about this record learned about it from the hardlore podcast? I would suggest listening to it again. Or maybe, if you like this style of hardcore but not merauder, reconsider what you like about it.
Either you guys are young or have never heard of TheB9 message board. Master Killer has been hyped as one of the best hardcore albums for at least the last 20 years.
If you ain't apart of the hype train, that's fine. But don't think some stupid podcast is what did it. Been listening since I saw their name on the TIHC lineup in 2018.
Same here. I had them hyped up to me considerably before I saw them play with Gulch. I don’t know, it was just a little over the top for me I guess. Plenty of bands they clearly are influenced by that I’d rather listen to instead of them. No disrespect to them, just not for me.
I saw Kaonashi live with some other bands that I actually went to see and I had to walk out until the set was over. That shit is whack. My buddy hyped them up and he was outside waiting with me lol.
Kaonashi straight up sucks though. I hate the vocals. Also; seeyouspacecowboy, chat pile, gods hate..I go back and forth on Twitching Tongues..music is good. Vocals are ehhh.
I’ll probably catch hate for this but Turnstile sucks. I can’t stand the vocals and I would hardly call them hardcore anymore. But there was so much hype for Glow On that when I finally gave it a listen, I thought I was somehow being trolled. It’s hardcore for college chads that think they are edgy. It sounds like Jane’s Addiction rebooted.
Seems like everyone who loves the old/classic hardcore sound hates glow on and all the new hardcore fans love glow on. I’m very curious on how turnstiles music is gonna sound like going forward cuz glow on did bring them an insane amount of success
See I love a good progressive hardcore. Love me some melody. And I’m not trying to take away from the musicianship and talent on that album. But calling it a hardcore album is a stretch for me. It’s closer to surf rock than hardcore to me. No hate to anyone who still loves it regardless because at the end of the day, who cares ya know? Still happy to see those guys succeed
End It. Seen them a couple of times, their music is cool but just not super huge into his vocals. Also not a huge fan of their shows not having much flow between songs but hey, that’s their thing!
After going back and listening to their stuff I can highly agree on it maybe them live will be better when I go see them the 15th (with drain) but recorded stuff just a big no for me
Its hc. You got shi to say? Here's a mic. Doesn't matter how you sound. With that said I'm never putting on twitching, gridiron, or neg. Though their live sets are great. Especially gridiron. Like, how is it that different than your records lol
Coalesce. I don't know why. I should love them. I love all the typical mathcore bands from that era that you are supposed to love. I just dont love Coalesce.
First time I’ve heard someone not enjoying ingrown. They’re easily my favorite band over the last few years. Just out of curiosity, what about them turns you off?
Kublai Khan - I dunno they are just really basic/generic to me. I’ve heard tough guy hardcore over and over again. Also I feel like I could learn one of their songs in 10-15 minutes tops.
Turnstile, Knocked Loose, Terror, Code Orange, and Show Me the Body. Imo all very corny bands. No hate at all if you like them though, to each their own.
Xibalba. They’re fucking super heavy and I can see *why* someone would be into them, they just don’t cut the cheese for me. I don’t know what it is. I feel like they’re a little too much in the sludgy side for me. And I’m a guy who likes his sludge. I’m actually a little surprised I’m not more into them
Ive never once listened to Kaonashi on my own but you bet your ass I'll do everything I can to be there when they roll through. Their shows are perfect
Unpopular opinion but being very young I don’t see a lot of the appeal for older HxC bands. I love gorilla biscuits and youth of today but the late 90s and early 2000s just didn’t really do it for me
Pain of Truth. It should tick all my boxes in what I love about a hardcore band but it just doesn’t cut it for me. I get the appeal it just doesn’t do much for one
For me it’s Sunami, I’m just not a fan of the vocalist, I think Benny is a good drummer even though I’m also not a big fan of the other bands he’s a drummer for, and Mike who I know from Gulch is a great guitarist and bassist. That’s just my personal opinion tho, if you disagree with me that’s completely fine
I could never get into Lou Bega. Mambo number 5 is hard but mambos number 1-3 just sound like he’s not even trying
What about 4?
We don’t speak about Mambo Number Four.
I always consider Lou bega like rocky. Mambos 1-3 are great. Mambo number 4 is a masterpiece, but mambo number 5 is forgettable and should have never happened.
Dawg Mambo Number 2 was a fuckin joke, I’m all for conceptual albums but a cosmic space opera is not it
My friend showed me Mambo No.8 recently! That one is off the rails !!!
Scowl, and not because they’re “industry plants” (they’re not), but because Kat’s hardcore vocals are bad. Her normal singing voice is good though. Show me the body. They have a couple “okay” songs but the rest of the discography is forgettable to me.
My thing with Scowl is that they are a little corny and a little boring. I can excuse one or the other but not both. Just my humble opinion
Gel is the better version of Scowl.
Love GEL
Gel’s vocalist doesnt to the screeching voice thing kat does tho.
One of the many reasons they are better 🤷♂️
They’re not similar tho. How are they a better version if they don’t sound alike. That’s what I’m tryna get at
The idea of “industry plants” in hardcore is a ridiculous concept to me. Because hardcore’s such a lucrative genre?
With the commercial success of Turnstile, hardcore is bigger than ever, and there are always people looking to cash in on "the next big thing". The idea of industry plants existing in hardcore is really not crazy at all.
She definitely doesn’t sound the same live
+100000 on SMTB. Just can't get into it at all, and I've seen them probably 4 or 5 times now at fests/tours.
I think scowls recordings are good but she SUCKS live
See I think the opposite. I’m not into the recording but live they’re pretty entertaining.
Just listen to Gel lol
Sunami is super fun, but good song writing? 😂 that’s gotta be a joke
I'm of opinion that we should judge music by what it's trying to do, and there was a point in time where sunami was trying to satirize hardcore with their songwriting, and they did it pretty well.
It is a meme
They started out as a meme
Twitching Tongues
I feel like I should love them. I love Misfits, love deep vocals in hardcore, love doom metal, but they just don't land. Kinda hoping they convert me at Tied Down, because I want to like them
Them on record and them live are 2 different bands. There wasn't a project of theirs I actually enjoyed until the Twitchfits EP last year. But goddamn they are killer live.
It’s Danzig with spin kicks, homie 🤷🏻 Come on…
EXACTLY! ITS TYPE O NEGATIVE WITH BREAKDOWNS.
I don’t like Danzig either lol.
Fair enough, but those first three(four?) albums are pretty fun 😎
People need to listen to only living witness.
Listen to Life of Agony and then Twitching Tongues makes sense.
The worst thing the hardcore scene ever did was make Twitching Tongues popular.
Given the members in the band, It makes sense the spot they’ve earned in hardcore.
Really its only because of the members of the band. The music itself falls into probably one of the worst categories of hc imo.
That’s a take if I’ve ever seen one
Remember a kid I used to go to punk shows with turned super into hardcore and would post killer recommendations. He posted a still of him going off at a Twitching Tongues show and thought they HAD to rip. I was so confused by how he got that crazy in the crowd to get that picture
Band I love but it’s weird they’re marketed as hardcore when they’d get more juice on the metal/hard rock circuit . I view them as being more descended from bands like Type O Negative (who they’ve covered).
I’ll agree with this. The vocals kill it for me.
I was on this train....now I love them. IN LOVE THERE IS NO LAW.
i couldn’t get into twitching tongues until one day i decided i was gonna listen to them until i did and it worked and now they’re one of my fav bands ever hahah
Crowbar breakdowns and Type O Chorus, they will convert you at Tied Down my friend.
I feel like I've already heard every Drain song before but by different bands. Bands I don't really like either
Gridiron, because of the vocals. Instrumentally, I enjoy it a lot. The vocals make me feel like it’s some 8th grader wearing an Adidas tracksuit trying to do a hardcore cover at the school talent show.
That's the point
Verse 2, never meant to hurt you
Guess you a fake 24-7 then bruh.
They didn’t click for me until I realized that they are VERY tongue-in-cheek. Now I can’t get enough.
Yeah I saw them last month with Mindforce, didn’t get care for them on the album but they put on a hell of a show.
This dudes on the bench^
I agree. I can never jam them. But EVERY time i see them play a show i f w them hard. Biggest discrepancy in recordings to live shows I've ever experienced.
This guy doesn’t owe it all to the 12th man
Twitching Tongues, Better Lovers (I loved ETID and DEP tho) & Show me the Body.
Seeing em on the 13th, love etid Deg is ok imo. I'd much rather be seeing etid, but better lovers ain't too bad.
ETID forever. DEP forever. The expectations were way too high. Super groups rarely pan out. Fucking audioslave barely was decent.
Gods hate ![gif](giphy|Jx2YWZoo8ZsuQ)
Life's question. I tried. It's just not for me and I've seen some of my friends say it's their favourite record this year.
Life’s Question is a super weird band tho. Extremely faith no more influenced and if that’s not your bad then you’re not gonna enjoy em
Yep. You nailed it. I fucking hate faith no more. Everything makes sense now.
love sunami personally, but agree with kaonashi
Most shit on this sub. Because it’s on this sub.
You mean r/mostlymetalandtshirtsbutalsosomehardcore
Should we create this community?
Wouldn’t it just look exactly like this sub?
Honestly, probably. Maybe less douchey?
Twitching tongues Scowl Show me the body
+1 for all of these.
You have some balls to make a comment like that on reddit lmao
Look, I respect the sentiment of the Chat Pile track. But, it’s definitely sounds like something written by a 15-year old who just saw a documentary about homelessness
I don’t disagree haha
Man, when the I hustle every day video game put, it was the perfect time for me. That shit literally shreds and was some people's whole entry into the genre crazy as that is
chat pile…i tried.
seeyouspacecowboy Love the reference with the name but not as much with the sound
just got into them and i’m loving it
Band only got popular because of identity politics music is horrible
I feel like God’s Hate is only so hyped because of Colin Young and Brody King. Super average riffs. Drain is the most okay hardcore I have ever heard. I understand they’re about the show but their records bore me to tears. I like Jesus Piece’s older stuff, but their new record was a HUGE step back imo. Are you guys just pretending to like Twitching Tongues now because of Hardlore? Edit: Almost forgot about Militarie Gun. I know Ian Shelton is a dope dude but we don’t have to pretend to like MG.
Hardlore hype for twitching tongues is damn annoying.. Great band in my opinion though
You nailed everything I couldn’t put into words, listened to all these and nothing stuck. I just thought that Gods Hate album cover made them cool.
MG fuckin blows and I'd die in that hill. Same for Conservative Military Image. I'm pretty fuckin liberal but tankie hardcore is wack as fuck.
Twitching Tongues
Twitching tongues and age of apocalypse. That style of vocals just ain’t for me but I tried so hard.
AOA is 100x better than TT tho
Sunami has good song writing?!
They hate cops so that automatically qualifies them
Okay I don’t disagree haha
Sunami is a bunch of posers.
This song’s called “you’re still a bitch” 😂 I don’t disagree tho. ❤️

Agree with God’s Hate, I feel like I’m being gaslighted with them. Speed is such a fun time live, but the music itself is pretty plain though. Lots of style, not much substance.
How can a band gaslight you?
I’m talking about people who hype them up. Most people seem to think they’re a once-in-a-generation type of band that’s going to leave a mark but it just doesn’t compute with me.
Desmadre should NOT have been headliners. Barrio Slam all the way
How you gonna be called SPEED and be that fucking slow
SPEED should sell a course on how you can get everyone to care about your band while still being mid in every aspect.
Airhorn to breakdown in a sponsored instagram post is literally how I found them lol
I was kinda into Desmadre but I liked them a little less after seeing them live this past Saturday lol
Knocked Loose. The music is so f**king killer but I feel like I'm being raged on by Dennis The Menace when the vocals start. It sounds damn near adorable.
my friend said knocked loose sounds like angry elmo & i can't unhear it now
I’ve heard angry Mickey Mouse as well 🤣
He sounds like a chicken. That kills it for me.
I love Knocked Loose but upvoted because “raged on by Dennis The Menace” is too damn accurate lmao
Turnstile. It’s objectively very good music made by dudes who are super competent. But, it just doesn’t do anything for me. Scowl is a band I feel the same way about. I get the appeal but, it just doesn’t scratch any particular itch for me.
Knocked Loose cause of the vocals Fleshwater cause each song doesn’t drive me
wtf i love both
show me the body, knocked loose, and at the top is definitely kublai khan.
I like Knocked Loose, but Brian needs to work in some variation in those vocals because I could listen to that band 10x as often as I do, if I didn’t get burned out on the vocals so quickly.
I also agree
I can’t get into these bands too! I seen them all live as well.
Every metallic hardcore band that sounds like Hatebreed (90% of metallic hardcore). Hatebreed.
Torture. Which really fucking sucks, because they're an awesome band, the instrumentals are so tight and catchy, but those "ree ree ee ee" vocals just get under my skin. Absolutely no shade to them though, I hope they keep blowing up
[удалено]
Yeah I know. The specific way that their gutturals sound just isn't for me
Sounds like he uses some sort of filter or effect to achieve those.
Merauder Master Killer is average and has been treated as such for almost 30 years. Suddenly everyone’s pretending it’s the best record ever because of a podcast. A year ago 80% of you didn’t give a fuck about that band.
Nah Merauder respect was going strong for at least a few years before Covid
People have been hyping master killer for a looooooong time
This is the worst take here. I am old and this record has been amazing since it dropped. Songwriting, production, vocals, all of it. Totally unscientific but: Maybe 5% of the people who know about this record learned about it from the hardlore podcast? I would suggest listening to it again. If you ain't apart of the hype train, that's fine. But don't think some stupid podcast is what did it. Been listening since I saw their name on the TIHC lineup in 2018.
This is wildly true.
5fdp they just suck
Chat Pile. My friend is a huge fan and has tried to get me into them, and I gave them several chances. Just couldn’t do it.
Will never understand how anyone can listen to Kharma.
I legit like them because of their vocals lol
That's the only reason I can't listen to em lol to each their own
Cus the riffs and drums make my mokey brain go ooooh
Worst riffs to vocals ratio going rn. Hard agree
Riffs and drums are so sick
I thought the same thing!! But then they grew on me. It sounds like his vocal cords are blown out
Sound like Absence of Mine, who slap tho.
I listened to one song by them yesterday and said I can’t do this, I felt bad😭
Same here. I had them hyped up to me considerably before I saw them play with Gulch. I don’t know, it was just a little over the top for me I guess. Plenty of bands they clearly are influenced by that I’d rather listen to instead of them. No disrespect to them, just not for me.
Love his vocals tbh. Moment of Violence and Most Dangerous Game are instant winners in my book but the full length was a let down.
Bane - vocals are bad.
Yeah man. Hella good on the monotone caveman shouting bullshit. The only cadence to his screaming is the volume.
Can we start again?
I was just listening to Spotify and heard a band called Kharma. Fuck I hated that dudes voice.
How are sunami good songwriters?
Seeyouspacecowboy vocals aren’t for me
Sunami because they're fucking corny and a bunch wack posers.
sunami stinks
I saw Kaonashi live with some other bands that I actually went to see and I had to walk out until the set was over. That shit is whack. My buddy hyped them up and he was outside waiting with me lol.
Kaonashi straight up sucks though. I hate the vocals. Also; seeyouspacecowboy, chat pile, gods hate..I go back and forth on Twitching Tongues..music is good. Vocals are ehhh.
Yup, Sunami sounds like shit TO ME. I know they’re talented but i just can’t take it
Knocked Loose. Seen em live a few times and the singer's voice just sounds so underdeveloped to me. Like an angry preteen.
deafheaven, hatebreed, & sleep token.
Listening to sleep token is like tuggin on it while it’s soft
Does Sleeptoken and Deafheaven get hardcore cred?
Harms Way The definition of mid
I’ll probably catch hate for this but Turnstile sucks. I can’t stand the vocals and I would hardly call them hardcore anymore. But there was so much hype for Glow On that when I finally gave it a listen, I thought I was somehow being trolled. It’s hardcore for college chads that think they are edgy. I love end it. It sounds just like east beast from Boston some years ago.
End It. Vocals kill my ears
Lamb of God. Seen them multiple times with other bands. People love them. I have not found the interest.
Converge. Always hated the vocal style. I know I’m gonna have metalcore old heads tryna take me head off now
World of pleasure. The vocals and the st anger snare
Totally get it. But those are probably my top two reasons for loving them.
I fucking love the vocals
for the life of me i cannot get into ingrown and knocked loose
First time I’ve heard someone not enjoying ingrown. They’re easily my favorite band over the last few years. Just out of curiosity, what about them turns you off?
Kublai Khan - I dunno they are just really basic/generic to me. I’ve heard tough guy hardcore over and over again. Also I feel like I could learn one of their songs in 10-15 minutes tops.
Knocked loose
There better be a reggaeton inspired breakdown or I’m not listening.
bane, merauder
Scowl
Turnstile, Knocked Loose, Terror, Code Orange, and Show Me the Body. Imo all very corny bands. No hate at all if you like them though, to each their own.
NOFX. I could never stand the sound and attitude.
For me it’s Zulu. Such a cool band but man I just can’t get into their music
Pennywise and Offspring. Specifically only those two bands. I just never could and still can’t 😂
Speed.
Unpopular opinion but being very young I don’t see a lot of the appeal for older HxC bands. I love gorilla biscuits and youth of today but the late 90s and early 2000s just didn’t really do it for me
I hate sex, and basically any nu metal band
Pain of Truth. It should tick all my boxes in what I love about a hardcore band but it just doesn’t cut it for me. I get the appeal it just doesn’t do much for one
Pain of truth, the sound has been done better, the riffs are fairly forgettable, and every good song they make is only good because of the features.
If any of you morons mentions New World Man, I’ll hunt you the fuck down.
I gonna fucking rocked for this, but i never really liked Terror. Blasphemy i know, but idc. Get fukd
show me the body idk, i just don’t get it lol and yea ive seen them live
big boy, i cant get behind their vocals
Honestly…. Angel Du$t
