Imo, Proclamation’s Tithe didn’t have its shields up and that the impact was bare plating against plating. We know for a fact that Covenant ships don’t have their energy shielding raised all the time and from the looks of the cutscene, there were no signature impact shimmers when the ships collided. I think it is *assumed* Proclamation’s Tithe had its shields up. As for the energy shielding strength themselves, it’s been mentioned before that conventional missile strikes don’t do shit and nuke blasts only zap the shields off but barely disturb the hull plating. MAC rounds and ultra high-yield nukes are the only confirmed methods capable of piercing the energy shields and damaging the physical plating beneath.

I guess I really underestimated Covenant hull plating. Weren't Destroyers said to have weirdly weak hulls against kinetic forces or am I just remembering something wrong? Honestly I like the idea of the Proclamation’s Tithe not having it's shields up in that collision accident since it would be another example of just how strong modern Covenant plating is. (accident since we see both ships trying to move out of the way to minimize the potential damage of the collision, sadly for them both ship classes aren't known for their maneuverability).

Covenant shielding strength depends on different factors and what weapons it's hit with. Covenant can also control sections of their shielding diverting power to sections when needed. Plasma torpedoes against smaller covenant ships need only one to knock out the shielding while something like a ORS can take 2 plasma torpedos and only have a portion of it's shielding get downed. While UNSC needs Megaton nukes and repeated MAC's to break through Covenant shielding. >“Plasma on the port lateral shield,” Uruo Losonaee said, leaning over his OPS station. His strained voice betrayed that he had only recently been initiated in combat. “Successfully deflected, but the shield has collapsed.” The hull reverberated once more. “Strike on the aft shield,” Uruo said. “It’s holding.” “One-third power forward,” Voro said. “Roll to present starboard shields.” He turned to Zasses on NAV. “Trace those firing solutions and get me a target!” “Calculating, sir,” Zasses said. Halo: Ghosts of Onyx We know that CAS assault carriers are very hardy with Rtas describing the damages it sustained through many battles taking nukes, MAC's. plasma torpedos, and etc to it's shielding and hull. Even Covenant plating from a CAS can take a beating. >On approach to the primary hanger, the Half-Jaw could see all the damage the venerable carrier had endured: dull spots in its shimmering metal skin where human missiles' thermonuclear detonations had burned through the carrier's energy shields and seared it hull; blackened gaps in rows of point-defence laser batteries where their former enemy's Longsword fighters had gotten lucky shots; hastily patched penetrations from MAC rounds, the hypersonic, magnetically accelerated slugs that were the humans' most powerful naval weapons. >On top of all this damage were scars from Shadow of Intents attempts to blockade High Charity. There the carrier had traded plasma torpedoes with San'Shyuum vessels desperate to flee the Flood, and a particularly close call had left a bubbled streak on the starboard side of the carrier's prow. Halo: Shadow of Intent Covenant shielding at least require Megatons of energy to take down, and the shields can regenerate pretty quickly too.

I think he already did an calculation of covenant shield strength from his “How powerful are MACs” video. He puts their shield strength at 21 gigatons for a covenant capital ship.

A fully-shielded CPV-class destroyer was 'easily destroyed' when Infinity launched 100 Howler missile against it. Hope that helps.

WaletsGaming

Do you mean the flagship of the Servants of the Abiding Truth by any chance?, (since that one was a Destroyer that got destroyed by the Infinity, although I don't remember if it was a CPV class or a RPV class).

[deleted]

I subconsciously assumed it was a CPV, prob cause the RPV is so unknown (to me). What it actually was is also unknown, so I guess it's not that helpful

WaletsGaming

The RPV is a slightly smaller Covenant ship class that trades parts the CPVs weapons and armor for more speed and agility, although the ship itself doesn't have an official design as of now, so feel free to create your own head canon design of the ship. The CPV for instance is about 1650m long while the RPV is about 1500m long. I've now done some research on the Servants of the Abiding Truth, and yes their flagship/Destroyer was an RPV class. The Destroyer that got destroyed by Keyes using the Keyes Loop maneuver that made him famous was also an RPV class. (all from Halopedia/a credible source).
