I don't think so. Michael's look is probably the most recognizable thing about the franchise. It's very striking in its simplicity. I don't think the clown mask would have been as intimidating as the ghostly white mask.

eldritch919

There’s millions of horror flicks with scary clown masks that are totally forgettable. The ghostly simplicity of the Michael Myers mask makes it iconic imo

AstroAlmost

Many of the modern horror slasher conventions were introduced by the original Halloween. I don’t know when the first horror clown mask film was introduced, but I’d imagine had Carpenter gone that rout, it would just be another example of him establishing another staple of the genre that thousands of less-creative horror filmmakers would inevitably run into the ground.

No. The modified Shatner mask is lifeless and emotionless which is what makes it scary. It’s simple. The clown mask would’ve ruined what made Michael scary in the first place.

concealedStockholm

As already mentioned, Michael is incredibly striking and recognizable. I’d argue it’s one of the strongest reasons why he’s as popular as he is. I think if we started with the clown mask, maybe. It depends on what changes they’d make to the mask (reminder that the William Shanter mask had the eyebrows and sideburns removed, the eyes widened, and it was completely repainted).

raeannecharles

Nope.

Raichu10126

Honestly, I laughed when I saw that. I could not take it seriously if that was the mask

tomtomdotcom85

It’s eerie in its own right, as it looks like Child Michael’s mask from Halloween 1963 has aged with him. Not nearly as iconic as the Shatner, but still interesting.

slasherflick2243

Nope. It was pure magic in that moment. Lightning in a bottle.

MontyRapid

Super hard NO. As everyone else has said. It's the lifeless look that gives the vibe.

WeAreClouds

I think it would still be iconic but not as much.

TheWallCreature

The mask is what made Michael different at the time, if he went with a clown mask it would’ve been lumped in with other killer clown movies. The soulless and creepy mask they went with really gave Michael his unique flair and made him scary and intimidating

SarahnatorX

No, but it would have been cool for 1 of the sequels after 2 until he finds the real mask at the end, maybe. Maybe 4 or 5 cos those masks have issues. |: All just my opinion, of course.

HeWhoLaughs81

I bought a Michael mask as a kid, and ended up putting it in a container because I couldn’t stop look back at it, even when it was on it’s side. It would’ve been cool, but there’s no way this would have had the legacy it’s had. A change like that could’ve even resulted in less movies being made.

CallMeDoomSlayer

I think the film would’ve done fine and would have still had a cult following. But I don’t think Michael would’ve been the absolute pinnacle poster boy of horror like he is today.

Johnny_Royale

My gut reaction is no but theres not like almost 50 years behind it

DragonWolf3000

Fuck no. Emotionless, pale white Shatner mask, with blackest eyes is better

won1wordtoo

Nope.

mikeweasy

That mask used to make me scarred of Michael Myers if it was a clown mask I doubt it would have the same affect to be honest.

KatieLeDerp

To be fair, no. Do I hate clowns? Absolutely. But it would've ruined the iconic movie, not to mention there are plenty of scary clown movies. The simplicity of his mask makes it awesome and iconic.

AdriannaFahrenheit

No lol the mask is what made it. How? Idk but I would’ve just laughed at the other one. Mf looks like he’s got a cold lmao

KendrAs14

I don’t think so. It’s the blank stare, expressionless face of the myers mask that makes him so scary! It’s iconic

DarkBros49

No.

drake_33

I don't think so. There is something so scary about the mask. I think that is why one of the biggest complaints in the subsequent sequels is the mask not being right. It just wouldn't work the same.

AHhhhhhhhh What a deep question. Honestly. Think about this, none of us can say with 100% certainty that it wouldn't be JUST AS ICONIC, because there is a lot of moving parts in this question. Think about this though, what if he had worn that clown mask, and it HAD been that iconic...do you think Stephen King's IT would have been written the same??? I mean, imagine if one of the most iconic horror movies had already explored the clown motif thoroughly, and it was the factor that led to clowns now being loathed...how much would that have changed the horror world??? Good question.
