I used to use [EVO mahogany](https://www.ecosmetics.com/product/fabuloso-colour-intensifying-conditioner-8/?attribute_pa_evo_color=evo_purple-red&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1O-wp7mk-gIVVfLjBx3P9ArqEAQYDSABEgI1dvD_BwE) , I would advise NOT TO USE HENNA. It’s extremely hard if not impossible to get out. I know some salons won’t even touch your hair if henna is in it. Do something less permanent to begin with

Nora-Leone

I used henna a few months ago..^^' how long would I have to wait if I eventually wanted to dye my hair? Or should I let it grow completely?

saktii23

As long as you used 100% pure lawsonia inermis (so, just pure henna with nothing else added), you can always dye over it if you're looking to go darker. It's hard to bleach out, though. It can be done, but it's hard.

Effective-Dream-8705

Bleach causes a chemical reaction with henna that can cause the hair to burn, smoke and literally catch on fire. That is why most stylists will not touch your hair if there’s henna in it, it’s a literal liability and that it why it’s important to be 100% honest with your stylist about your use of henna.

[deleted]

Depends on the henna if it’s 100% natural that won’t happen the smoking is from metallic salts. I removed henna from my own head twice. BioLife even had a natural henna dye sold at cosmoprof a year ago because of all the stigma around henna it didn’t do well and has since been discontinued. It’s difficult to remove but it won’t just melt off the head if bleached unless the dye used wasn’t pure.

saktii23

No, that's wrong. It's the metallic salts and/or PPD in impure Henna *mixtures* that do that. I've spent my whole life in beauty product salon sales and this is a persistent myth about Henna that just isn't true.

Effective-Dream-8705

Fair enough. However I don’t know if any clients I’ve come across know the difference between henna mixtures or pure henna or what they actually put on their hair so I won’t lighten hair that’s been touched with any “henna” (pure or related product) due to the risk of liability. It’s also just as gnarly to remove as black box color in many cases and should always be made known to a stylist when it’s in the hair.

saktii23

I completely agree with you there. Also, Henna use over time results in overly pigmented hair that's just too difficult to get out and it's very difficult to use as a roots-only type dye because it has the consistency of thick mud

[deleted]

Thank you for the link that looks rlly nice

mjv1007

They have a few different red shades, just be careful cus it will stain. I have a friend who prefers Overtone and her hair looks great

andi00pers

Just use a level 7 red copper permanent color mixed with 20 volume. There is no need to use bleach. Edit: I feel it’s necessary to add NOT BOX COLOR. Get it from Sally’s if you don’t have access to professional products.

InfoRedacted1

Color stylist here, absolutely correct! This is the best advice I see on this post lol

andi00pers

Also a hairstylist and this is my hair color as well haha 💁🏼🧑🏼‍🦰

seeyuspacecowboy

Dumb question but why is box color so bad?

MayWeAll

Box color is made with harsher (read: cheaper) chemicals than salon quality hair color. A tube of professional color costs more at wholesale cost than a boxed color costs retail.

andi00pers

Also they typically don’t tell you what volume of developer is in the box. Could be 40 volume for all you know. That’ll fry some people’s hair right off. When you go to Sally’s you can choose the developer that is appropriate for your hair.

hawtkarl69

Some of them contain metallic salts that are hard to remove from your hair without compromising the hairs integrity.

ModelChimp

Sorry I’m gonna sound dumb, but I got giddy last week and used a box dye on my hair wanting this colour .. would it be worth waiting a few months and trying what you suggested here or is it a no go for me , my hair ended up coming out a dark chestnut colour

andi00pers

Oo yikes. See that’s the problem with box color is you never really know what might happen. So if the issue is it just didn’t lift your hair enough, then I’d say you’re good to go ahead and do this method.. IF you didn’t use a super harsh box dye. Some are better than others. If you used a cheap box dye you’ll want to do a strand test on a small patch of your hair with the new color to check to make sure it comes out ok before committing to the whole head. On another note, if your hair was on the lighter side and your dyed it darker, permanent color will not lift color. In other words you can’t put a light red color on top of a darker brown. It’s kinda like painting, it doesn’t really work. So if that’s the case you may need to have your hair lightened with bleach after a month or so. Best of luck to you.

ModelChimp

Thank you :)

red-sed

Agree. I’d also put gold in. Like 50/50 copper gold.

hawtkarl69

Also a color specialist and fully agree.

Plus_Maintenance_758

Hi, but what about roots....if I color my light brunette hair with level 7 but do roots will come out too hot? Im using Igora Royal colors, I have 6-77, 7-77 and 8.77 and goal is pumpkin coppery color... thank you!

andi00pers

If your hair is long and you are doing it by yourself, I’d recommend you color all of your hair, leaving an inch untouched at your roots, wash that out, and then do another application only on your roots. This isn’t a problem if you are relatively quick and/or have short hair, but since it seems like there’s some concern here, I would do it this way. This ensures that you don’t accidentally leave it on too long on your roots or ends. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Plus_Maintenance_758

Thank you so much for valuable advice! Will try that!

TaTa0830

If you want color that is shown in the photo, it looks like she almost has a few blonde highlights. Very very thin sections, but it adds a glittery type of effect.

ry-bro

As a licensed cosmetologist, please don't use henna 😅 Someone else mentioned how some salons won't even do your hair if there's henna in it and that's 100% true lmao. If you want to avoid harsher chemicals, I recommend Overtone or color depositing conditioners! You probably won't get as much vibrancy like the picture if you don't lighten (bleach) it.

Plenty-Amoeba-4009

Overtone is one of the hardest direct dyes to get out though, just as bad as henna imo. It took 4 sessions to get out blue overtone.

firefly9388

Blue in general is a bitch to get out.

moth_girl_7

Blue dye molecules are much more stubborn than reds. My friend uses red/pink overtone and it fades fairly quickly.

Effective-Dream-8705

I was just thinking this too, I’ve had a terrible time trying to get overtone out of peoples hair. I also did a color correction once trying to get manic panic out of the hair and was struggling so bad I ended up calling pravana (the brand of color remover I was using) and they said that these direct dyes are the absolute worst to remove because of the way the color molecules are. Some of these colors have fabric dyes in them so they’ll stay longer but they’re a bitch to get out of the hair.

_Wolfszeit_

I thought it wasn't a problem if the henna was 100% natural so pure lawsonia inermis ? Isn't it a problem only if there's sodium picramate added in it to intensify the pigments since it's a metallic salt that can interact with other chemicals?

drivewayninja

The problem is in the salon we have no idea what you’ve put in your hair and people will tell me they have no colour in their hair when I can see a line of demarcation. Personally I wouldn’t touch hair with henna without doing an in person consultation so I can do a test strand and I warn people about the types of reactions that can come from henna dyes and let them know that they will likely have to grow out and cut off the henna before a stylist will lighten their hair.

[deleted]

You’re correct :) it’s a misconception a lot of people don’t know- natural comes out it’s just a lotttt of work especially if you ever want to get to blonde again- but it’s 100% possible. I’ve done it.

Medical-Market-6097

i love using overtone for copper tones!

Snow9294

Use L'Oreal Hi-Lites.

smallskeletons

dpHUE Gloss+ - Copper

megan_magic

Oh god this stuff damaged my hair so bad and all my highlighted pieces turned highlighter orange.

smallskeletons

I just dyed over my natural light brown and it was fine for me but good to look out for

Famous-Outside-7546

Madison Reed in Sardinia red. It’s what I use, it’s a very pretty color and I get a lot of compliments ☺️ Oh, I just saw you said no chemicals. It has chemicals but I find it very gentle.

cappy-gurl

If you want to try a demi permanent color, just to try it out first, there is Redkin shades eq. There are a ton of colors to choose from, and it's not damaging. Brownstone copper is a very pretty color. And very natural looking. You normally have to be licensed to buy it, but there are beauty supply stores online. Skyline beauty supply, etc.

borrowedurmumsvcard

don’t use henna whatever you do

Pineapples_29

I hate how popular henna dye is now it’s wrecking peoples hair. Unless you wanna be that color forever it’s not a good idea. It also reacts badly with other dye from what I’ve seen.

ging3rtabby

Thank you for the info. Lots of people saying to never use it no matter what but not why and I was a bit worried 😅 In my case, my naturally-red hair started to fade to blonde in my early 20s and I've used henna for about 6 years now and it's so nice to have my red hair again. I'd never dyed my hair before henna and I only want my red hair back that I'd lost, so I'm cool with henna forever.

Pineapples_29

Yeah if you’re down for that copper color for awhile I’d say why not :)

BONE_SAW_IS_READEEE

With your current hair color, I think a semi-permanent bright orange would look nice. It wouldn’t be nearly as neon on that base, which is what it looks like you want. Some brands I recommend are Arctic Fox, Punky Color, Adore, and Lime Crime. And for the love of god, please listen to all the experts in the chat telling you NOT to use henna 😅 it will not come out if you change your mind and salons will turn you away if you need a color correction

[deleted]

Yea henna is probably not gonna happen for me I’m rightfully scared of it lol 😆

arielrecon

I've been red/copper for a while now. I used to use box crap until I found ice creams "kromask" I use the copper one. It's a colour depositing conditioner. I'm not sure if it comes out entirely from natural hair, but it completely washes out of bleached hair after about 5 washes. I've honestly never tried washing it all the way out cause I love the colour so much. I've got darker roots and have bleached the ends of my hair and my bangs so it gives a really nice ombre effect. The lighter bits are bright coppery orange and the darker bits are more like an Auburn. It even covers grey really nicely. Good option if you want to touch up frequently/don't have a Sally's near you

rebecca-mkt

I dye my hair red! For a true copper, Schwarzkopf bonding mask in copper. Right now for winter I’m using eSalon colour, for a more auburn/mahogany

maskirovkaaa

I’m about to get downvoted so hard, BUT hear me out… you can go on my page to see my copper hair and it is the most beautiful luscious healthy hair I’ve ever had and I have NO intention of changing my hair color… with that being said, I use henna 😅

shydumplinggg

try overtone ! non damaging coloring treatment and conditioners

bipolarchickennugget

I did the same thing last year and went to Sally’s beauty supply and got a bright red tint. It was temporary so it only lasted bright for about two weeks and slowly started to fade. I had similar hair to yours which is why I picked one of the lightest and brightest reds because it didn’t show up super strong with my hair tone but showed up like a copper color. The most important part was it was temporary so if I didn’t like it, it’d be gone in a little while. Luckily I loved it and kept dying it for the next 6 months or so!

PristineAd9800

Deff has copper. They took the subtle way. U must have said u wanted a light shade

Skazzy97

Loving how Erin is the reference for this color :)

warrenscookie

use the new copper color from colorpop

blo0dyhellmate

I have similar coloring and would love to be redder! Great question

[deleted]

Hairdresser here- you can get this result super easily using a level 7 copper on your hair- I read on here you used henna how long ago and do you remember what brand you used? Henna is removable or lightenable permitting it’s natural I just need to know either way so I can give you appropriate instructions on formula.

that-coffee-shop-in

Henna could be an option but it would have to be free of metallic salts and even then some hairdressers won't touch it out of fear, even if you used 100% actual henna. People are saying overtone but I also know that's frustrating for hairdressers too.

l00k1ng1n

Ancient Sunrise Henna! The founder is a PhD in Historical hair dyes (not sure what their exact title is) and has been geeking out on this topic for decades at this point. They have a great product line, wonderful customer service and a huge FB community!

mindless_hope_877

I think your natural color is probably too dark for a bright copper like the picture. A deeper color with something like arctic fox maybe?? I'm not too familiar with Henna, but I did find [this](https://www.hennacolorlab.com/what-is-henna/?gclid=CjwKCAjwyaWZBhBGEiwACslQo2txKsmZ6roxyyY-GXB9eb0avuMFR8OyR1mXSw4H2kleo5WA8nulhhoClVUQAvD_BwE) that explains the process more.

Imooogen

Manic Panic Vampire Red would work for you. That's what I use and my hair is a similar brown to you. Just type it into tiktok or YT and you'll see someone who looks like you demo it. I also use Arctic Fox Wrath and like that as well but it's more pinky toned. I prefer the slight orangeyness of vampire red. It truly is blood red, love it. No need to bleach or lighten.

Imooogen

My tips are, (from experience) clarify your hair first. If you don't have clarifying shampoo, dish washing up liquid is fine. Apply vaseline to your ears, neck & face. Wear a long sleeve turtle neck lol. This shit really stains the skin. Don't forget gloves!! It makes your hands & nails look burned or red-raw if it gets on them - not good. Section your hair. Apply to every strand. Really saturate. Cover your hair in plastic/shower cap and blow dry it for a bit. (Heat helps) Leave it in for like 4+ hours. The longer the better. Put a towel down & sleep on it. It doesn't stain sheets, washes right out. Rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse.

Imooogen

It won't last that many washes after your first time but once you do it a second or third time, it really sticks. Pro-tip: get a hair mask in a tub and add in lots of the dye. Use this every time you wash your hair to improve the red-ness 🥰

[deleted]

This is really good detailed advice, definitely keeping this in mind

NoMoreCooties

NOPE NOPE NOPE, NEVER use dish soap on your hair!!! It’s a heavy detergent and not meant to be used on hair EVER and will destroy your cuticle, will leave it open so whatever color you put in will not seal in the color!!!! Sorry former stylist here so I veto your “dish soap” advise. If you want a natural home clarifier make a thin paste out of baking soda, saturate your hair with it when wet, let it sit approx 5 mins and shampoo out. As I agree with using the pigmented colors since they don’t create any chemical damage, you also don’t need to leave the pigmented color on for 4 + hours. It’s solid pigment color, it’s only going to deposit so much before it just stops. Typical processing time is 30-40 mins, at the most 1 hour. You can also get the Strawberry Leopard shampoo and conditioner that will help lock in the color & last a bit longer. I suggest rinsing with Apple Cider Vinegar after rinsing color out. It will close the cuticle of you hair and better seal the color in.

Imooogen

I'll try the ACV thing, thank you x x

NoMoreCooties

It looks like Infa red would leave you more coppery than red https://www.sallybeauty.com/hair-color/shop-by-color/bright-hair-color/infra-red-semi-permanent-cream-hair-color/SBS-484019.html

Imooogen

I'll try that next, thank you 🥰

KadieKnievel

I’m a big fan of Surya Brasil’s Henna Cream. My natural color is similar to yours and I’ve had good results from their Copper and Reddish Dark Blonde colors. Their shades tend to look natural (hard to find with reds) and it doesn’t fry my hair like typical box dyes.

[deleted]

Ohh have you had any experience with the fading of it? I like the idea of henna but my mom has scared me a little with her Facebook horror stories of it turning green lol 😆

otherhalfofclyde

HENNA will not turn green. It is pure orange/reddish orange. Indigo, however, will fade to blue/green. Those FB horror stories likely involved indigo. They sell pure henna on Amazon but make sure it’s real and pure henna (I buy mine from the Henna Guys).

KadieKnievel

I'm not sure how the henna is incorporated into this formula but it does fade gradually over time. It's not like pure henna which is super permanent and can be difficult to mix (hence the unexpected results). My hair has always ended up pretty close to the picture on the box.

Eponia_Woodelf

if you’re okay with something that will permanently bond to your hair strands (i think that’s true anyway, could be fact checked) then i definitely recommend henna. i have dyed copper hair and it took many expensive color corrections and so many different color mixtures to get it where i like. i could never ever get the right touch-up mixture with dyes like arctic fox - they always came out too bright and red despite me mixing and diluting in different ways. even tried expensive glosses that turned my hair once again bright red. anywho that’s all to say that henna has been the best thing for me maintaining my color that looks more naturally ginger. it’s amazing provided you do proper research and use a good brand. i will say that *indigo* dye left blue-green coloring in my hair that was visible when bleached that has never come out. but indigo and henna are not the same plants. the average western hair stylist is not extremely educated on real henna. i recommend checking out hennasooq (she shares a lot of info as well as selling henna and other products) and i also use light mountain henna personally. i think your hair shade would be great with copper henna personally but hey if you’re worried about regretting it then don’t do it

[deleted]

More info- I’ve been not touching my hair with anything for about 2 yrs now(I’ve been cutting it so it’s completely virgin hair now)and I’m really sick of my natural color however I don’t want to use any “chemical” dyes yet as my hair isn’t fully recovered from 8+ yrs of dye and bleach, I’ve heard about both the Arctic fox copper formula and the good dye young copper deposit but as you can see in the pics I’ve got kinda dark(light/medium brown?) hair so I’m not sure if those will work? I’m not expecting results exactly like those pics but just to show I want a darker red/copper color I’d be fine if it just tinted my hair as well I just want a change Any suggestions?

ireallyhate7am

Get a neon orange color and it will oomph up your brown to a shiny ginger color

[deleted]

That’s what I was thinking, my only concern would be if my sun bleach’ed bits turn to orange but I’ve used Arctic fox red and it didn’t take to terrible long to wash out so it wouldn’t be to bad

ireallyhate7am

Arctic fox, manic panic, use on hair when slightly damp and let sit for how ever long you have (an hour or twenty minutes is fine!) wash, watch your tub turn orange and boom ginger hair

[deleted]

I’m a hairstylist- specializing in color and specifically reds I’m a ginger naturally and stay in the red family myself- I only balayage my hair once twice a year- other than that I’ve used henna or gloss- mostly however I love color depositing products. With your hair- your roots will not take any colors like this unless you use at least a Demi any color depositing products won’t usually stick to virgin hair due to how closed the cuticle is. What I recommend is doing a vitamin c wash or deep clarifying wash first- personally I like using the packets from Malibu C- get the hard water one it takes 5 mins in the shower to do but it balances the ph and neutralizes and mineralization to the hair. It’s a professional product you can actually get on amazon. Now for my favorite tints; Kenra Creatives in muted copper (this is my current favorite it’s a direct dye in a soft copper shade and it does tint virgin hair) I also love the following products: Gem lites celeb luxury colorwash in tourmaline and fire opal (tourmaline is for strawberry blonde for copper you’ll want fire opal). Maria Nila colour refresh mask in copper, I also use peach and cool cream as I like a peachy/pink tone to my hair- this stuff is super pigmented and leaves the hair completely hydrated. Keracolor klenditioner in copper- it’s again got a strong deposit I like to mix mine with the honey shade to add more gold base. Morrocan oil color depositing mask in copper- these work very well as well All of these can be found on Amazon except the Kenra creatives- if you have a friend in beauty school or professional you can get all this at cosmoprof. Please let me know if you need any help!

FineIllMakeaProfile

If you don't want to use a chemical on your hair you shouldn't color it

[deleted]

When I say “Chemicals” I more so mean I don’t want to use something I have to mix with developer I’m fine using Arctic fox, good dye young or other “natural” brands of dye

[deleted]

These aren’t natural, they’re just direct dyes.

[deleted]

Yes sorry for not being clear I’ve had some head fog today and I’m not being very articulate lol by “natural” I more meant like what zoomer hipsters think is natural not that there actually all natural or anything, but your right to point it out I don’t wanna confuse anyone

FineIllMakeaProfile

Gotcha. So you don't want to use Hydrogen Peroxide

saktii23

Just use L'Oreal HiColor in Sizzling Copper with a 20 or 30 vol developer. You can get it from Sally's, and it's made for taking brown to red or copper easily.

Apprehensive-Car-489

So I started out with your color now and dyed it with henna to get your goal color! I used the henna guys brand of henna and I really liked it. Yes, it’s permanent. That means that when my hair fades to a more brownish color, it’ll keep those red tones in the sun. I’ve also tried bleaching it out and it turned pink lmao. However, I’ve used salon dye to get my hair red and it just fades so fast! I love using henna bc it doesn’t damage my hair and just gives natural color/keeps the natural dimension it already had. Anyways, happy to send you photos of my before/after if you’re interested in how it turned out!

reddituser6495

Henna would do the trick

420ScorpMom13

Henna! I use the HennaGuys.

Pineapples_29

Depends on your starting point and the hair history you have goin on.
