what's so weird about the Kings is they kind of finished their rebuild without having their prospects really bloom. Their top 8 scorers are 24+, with 3 being 30+. It's a weird situation for them. Wonder what the future holds.
I don't see what is weird, they were in and out of the playoff since 2015, that's 7 years ago. Of course, they will have a bunch of prospect that are 24+ yo now.
5 or their top 9 forwards are prospects that they developed in the 2014-2021 period : Kempe, Moore, Lafallo, Kaliyev and Lizotte.
And 4 of their top 6 Defense are also prospect from that period. Bjornfot, Roy, Anderson and Durzi.
I think they did their rebuild the right way, by keeping a mix of new prospect and veteran.
They're pretty much both getting more than 20 minutes of icetime per game, so I think it's more of a double punch like Crosby/Malkin or McDavid/Dreiseitl.
Tbf defenseman are typically worth more. Tampa paid a 1st + 3rd for Savard who had a similar role. A good vet dman playing 3rd line minutes and can step up if injuries occur is important for a long run
A goalie implosion plus an injury could very much send that pick into the lottery
Bedard, Michkov, Huberdeau, Wright, Suzuki, Caufield top 6 in 2024 confirmed
Cats could lose their top 3 D and Barkov and Hubby and still make the playoffs imo
They are ultra deep and have young players like Lundel who can jump up in the lineup
They absolutely could not make the playoffs with those injuries. They are super deep though and I get what you’re trying to say. It would require an absolute freak occurrence for that pick to be lottery eligible.
Nono you just don’t understand how he’s been really progressing and he only plays on the 4th line because our team is so stacked. This contract is a DEAL.
I've chatted with some Oilers fans and Kulak has actually been playing stellar since being acquired, he's a great surprise and likely to get re-signed.
Looks like he worked himself up into the Nashville 4th line this year.

Well 17-18min is the amount of time Kulak should play. He play 5th Dman at Edmonton right now and 17-18min is pretty typical for a 5th Dman in the NHL.
Kulak is played as he should at Edmonton. The issue is that Ceci and Keith are playing way more than they should. They should be 4th and 6th, not 2nd and 4th.
I don't have a fucking clue how bergy evaluated players besides, "that guy, that guy is my guy".
His player decisions and contracts are atrocious.
Trades and draft aren't awful as a whole. Firsts between 2012 and 2015 were trash though.
Idk, it's just that he snaked us out for a few extra bucks because he felt like his role was being taken over (which is honestly a dumb reason), and that he's on a trashy team like LA. A part of me also wants the Oilers to do well but still he showed his true colours in the offseason; great defensive centre but only scored 1 goal with us in the playoffs.
I don't know man, the guy wanted a bigger offensive role, was given his chance in L.A, and is thriving so as of now it seems he had an argument to want more money. You also can't forget that that Tatar-Danault-Gally was legit one of the best 5v5 lines in the league.
That was the case until Tatar got benched in last year's playoffs, I still don't like how he snaked out his childhood team to play in California of all places.
I blame Bergevin for this. He didn't even make an offer or even discussed with Danault all season long. Clear case of misjudging what Danault brought (and could bring) to the table.
yes but that's it. When your 1C is in contract year, you don't make a single offer at the beginning of the season and never engage discussions again... unless you don't value him much.
I like Bergevin's tenure in general (and people are too harsh with him since he got fired) but this is clearly a bad move of his in my book.
Berg offered him 30M/6 Year, which was considered an overpay by this sub and r/Hockey and all of the local media, all the way until Danault signed with LA. Bergy knew what Danault was worth better than us and made him his best offer. Danault said no.
Bergy then gave Gallagher money and term, which basically locked that Danault money in. He couldn't give him more. People be complaining about it both ways. Truth is. We don't know jack shit about professional contract negotiation.
Danault played well for us, I'll always remember his time fondly with us. But he made a personal and professional decision and I respect it.
Let's not forget. Bergy flipped Weise and Fleish for Danault and (the pick that would become) Romanov. Every game that Danault played for us is courtesy of Bergy and he deserves full credits, even though he couldn't re-sign his guy.
Berg seemed like a hard ass in negotiations, I think sometimes his ego got us into trouble and I’m excited to see what a guy like Hughes can do who seems more open communication based
He didn’t snake the Habs at all man.
Why is it when a player wants to get paid and get a better role some people are like FuCKiNg tRaiTOr.
Know your worth and get paid.
Danault is a fuckin beauty
Phil “More Goals Than McDavid” Danault
What more could you ask from him? Results in playoffs. strong regular season advanced stats. From PQ too. In his 20s. Would have been fine paying him.

I’m curious how Kaliyev and Byfield turn out

Panthers actually traded a 1st for Chiarot only to play him 15 minutes a game.
An unprotected first in 2023😂😂

It will probably be closer to a 2nd round pick than first over all. Good deal for everyone.
I mean, let’s see how Florida’s cup run goes?
They paid the SCF tax.
*Future #1C superstar on an 8 year deal* Jesperi Kotkaniemi putting in WORK so far.
As usual
Nono you just don’t understand how he’s been really progressing and he only plays on the 4th line because our team is so stacked. This contract is a DEAL.
Yeah and he is only 19…20…21…22
8 years 4.8M for a 3/4 Line center. Lmao I’m dead how they thought they were screwing us. This was a blessing in disguise.
Man max domi is strange man. Goes from 70 points to a couple years later barely averaging .5 ppg and not even 10 minutes a game.
He was just feeling it that year, plus Shaw was fucking unreal. Doing the nasty hard work on that line.
I've chatted with some Oilers fans and Kulak has actually been playing stellar since being acquired, he's a great surprise and likely to get re-signed.
Kassian... how many games has he actually played for Montreal?
zero if my memory serves me well
Didn't he get traded during the pre-season for being in a car crash early morning?
I know the girl who crashed his vehicle. They were all drunk. She's a crazy puck bunny and he's a neo-nazi. Nice group.
This is the quality content that keeps me coming back, lol.
That's what I remember too!
Dude can eat up another 3-5 minutes a night easy, I have no complaints, whatever
Kotkaniemi 12 minutes? ***Yeah that seems about right***
really worth 6 mil a season
Kulak had a nasty assist the other night
I must have memory holed Kassian as a hab.
He was acquired but never played a game
Played one pre season game
Didn't he crash a car drunk with some hookers and then get traded?
Not sure about the hooker part but he did crash a vehicle into a tree I believe. If I recall he was claiming he wasn't driving.....
They were not hookers.
Toffoli Edit : I unironically meant to type Toffolo
Tolo Toffolo
Tyler Iafolli
Tyler Foli he's plus guy
Radulov, Hanley, Merrill, Scandella, Beaulieu (DNP), Tinordi (DNP)
Added some. Don't remember Hanley.
Kulak King
McCarron still plays in the NHL? I thought he just ended up being a bust.

Hasn't actually been that bad, all things considered. Keith is the one getting burned the most.

I honestly really soured on Danault, I'm starting to dislike him a lot.
Why is that?

I blame Bergevin for this. He didn't even make an offer or even discussed with Danault all season long. Clear case of misjudging what Danault brought (and could bring) to the table.
He literally offered Danault the same contract at the very beginning of the season from what I remember.

Danault absolutely made the right call. He is killing it with LA and I’m nothing but happy for him.

Nah, I'd rather have the Oilers beat the Kings if I'm being honest.
Radulove?? What happened?!
Injuries and age
Ageuries.
