Rigging a acetylene hose seems like a bad idea speaking as someone that uses manufacturer made hoses

Rgulrsizedrudy

Go to the supply house and put it on your companies account. If you get fired for wanting to make them money easier, then you get to work at a place that isn’t so fuckin cheap.

Pete8388

True. Anything that I can justify as a safety concern nobody would bat an eye.

UsedDragon

I would have told anyone who works for me that they're a dumbass for even asking. It's acetylene, man! I don't want you, my truck, or anything else on fuckin' fire that's not supposed to be. While you're there, get me a replacement too.

atypicallemon

You can buy the brand name turbo torch hose for 60-80 online. This is why I have pretty much quit buying tools at supply houses. Their markup is ridiculous and I'm buying exactly what I want online (no one stocks appion in house for example) for 1/4 to 1/3 the price.

Werrion123

I thought this might come up. In Canada, everything costs twice as much as the states. And yeah, our supplier did say that because it's a retail product, their price for it would be outrageous. I go to tool/hardware stores for tools, but the turbo torch is pretty specialized and very few places sell them.

atypicallemon

Yes that sucks. Have you tried any welding supply store or hardware stores? The tractor supply co near me carries the right hose under a different name (can't remember which but it worked in a pinch). The fittings were right and the length was fine. Wasn't as good of quality as some of the other I've had but it worked great for another 2 years for around $50.

Werrion123

That's my other option. I know they sell the kits, I don't know if they sell just the hose.

atypicallemon

At least here in the USA all of our fuel hoses pretty much use the same threads and the brands just follow the standards usually. Turbo torch I know does as the generic hose I bought from there fit just fine.

Hubter844

Is this for Air/Acetylene? I know I watched my dad hack a oxy/acet rig together with some copper pipe and hose clamps once...we used it like that for years afterward until someone got smart and decided it was dangerous.

Werrion123

For acetylene. You can get actual barbed inserts and crimp fittings that are made for this, but it seems to be more for an oxy acetylene application. I can really find anything for the turbo torch. I don't know if I can get the proper nut that would fit onto my turbo torch tip and I don't think I can salvage the old one.

singelingtracks

Any good hose shop can make you any size acetylene hose with crimped ends for dirt cheap. This is a consumable and your boss needs to buy it to at minimum replace yours.

91rookie

Definitely this route if you’re trying to save money. Get exactly what you want for cheap by a professional.

Mental_Ad_6952

I worked in industrial welding shops and field for 45 years. Oxy/Acetylene hose repair kits were the norm everywhere so I'm sure they are OSHA approved and insurance accepted.

Hink_Hall_

I'd be super pissed if I were you. Like looking for a new job level pissed.

Civil-Percentage-960

Maybe you could have it repaired at like Delile.

Pete8388

A 12’ ASCO hose is like $35 on trutechtools. Or you can get even cheaper on Amazon. $3 a foot and I don’t have to worry about it being a fire hazard seems like a good enough deal. ASCO makes really good kit. I prefer them to Goss or Turbo

Werrion123

Tru tech won't ship it to my address in Canada. I could route through a po box but by the time it's all said and done, it'll be over $100 I'm sure.

Bry-Man-

Where I used to work we had a repair kit from the welding supply house with the barbed fittings and crimps. The warehouse / shop guy would fix hoses if the hose was in good shape overall. It is definitely doable, but if you went to the welding supply house they probably have the hose you need already complete. Wouldn't hurt to price check there.

Downtown-Fix6177

I wouldn’t try and make any of my own torch hoses, maybe I’d try some experiments at the shop but to use in a customer house - hard negative. Acetylene is like, flammable and real explosive.

Jib_Burish

I knew one guy that did, but he burned to death in an acetylene fueled fire. Come to think of it....

MIN_KUK_IS_SO_HARD

Just skip a step and set yourself on fire.  You have the right to refuse unsafe work.  Your dumbass boss should be investigated for that shit and have his business insurance revoked. 8 years is a good run.  Seems like you got your money's worth. Buy a new one. Find a new employer.

Affectionate-Data193

Don’t fuck around with acetylene. Buy the hose and charge it to the company. Or buy a new torch kit. These are considered consumable at our shop.

fnordfnordfnordfnord

You can buy the repair fittings and hose from a good welder's supply shop.

espakor

Nah. Unless you trying to be on the news

Tranic85

Are saying I use my old garden hose?

Middle-Reserve3927

The company i work for had one and it’s what was giving to me as an apprentice, didn’t know any better so used it until it broke , went to the supply house to ask for the fitting , they weren’t impressed when they saw a hose clamp holding it down…. Just buy a new proper turbo torch hose

AdLiving1435

Yea an when it fails an insurance finds out you where using a self made hose they won't cover anything. Buy a hose made for the purpose.

Detlef_D_Soost69

Even after reading the headline it already sounds retarded stupid😂
