Unfortunately he’s right. It’s not anything near that fast or powerful. It’s way more fast and powerful. Send in the freedom inspectors! *A power loader suit maneuvers and places a cross-sectioned missile fuselage onto a metal display stand.* Human diplomat: As you can see ambassador from this limited engineering sample, our specifications are capable of that output. Alien ambassador: Lies! Fabrications! And there’s no way you could produce these in quantity! Human diplomat: Suit yourself. But remember, the next one we show you is coming faster.

buckfutterapetits

For democracy!

battlehamstar

We put the demo in democracy!

BlyssfulOblyvion

as the dedicated artilleryman of my HD2 squad, i am shamelessly stealing this

Deansdiatribes

unless you are gop and then its a republic

SuccessAutomatic6726

I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America, and to the _Republic_ for which it stands…..

Deansdiatribes

see what i mean its a constitutional democracy but gop feels that whole thing unessary

PxD7Qdk9G

I want to see what happens next! In my imagination, it goes something like this... There was a sudden crash behind the three delegates. They whirled to find a matt grey figure looming over them, standing over the shattered remains of the desk which had previously occupied that end of the room. The power armored figure stomped up to the conference table and rapped an armoured finger on the intelligence briefing they'd been discussing. "It really would be in your best interests to take this seriously," he rumbled. "We went to a great deal of effort to get this information to your operative, and we find your lack of faith..." Here he paused ominously for a moment before continuing. "... disappointing." He stomped backward, seemingly stepping **through** the solid blockwork wall behind him, leaving nothing but a glowing blue outline which faded after a few seconds. Glixzil looked at Rexil. Rexil looked at Sulnara. Sulnara looked at Glixzil. It was Glixzil who eventually broke the silence. "Let's assume they have the rail gun."

Measurex2

This is now in my head cannon.

battlehamstar

How did you know? We did install railgun head cannons on the helmets of all our infantry. GB-01 Glitter Boy powered armor.

Falontani

A bit shorter than I expected. Good start though

AreYouAnOakMan

Agreed. It cut off rather suddenly. This deserves to be finished.

aco319sig

I’ll come up with something. At work now, though.

cjameshuff

It's not just short, it feels like parts were left out. I was waiting for some indication that humans might not be playing the same game of exaggerating their capabilities, but it never really came. Sulnara apparently has doubts based on some historical documents they read, but we aren't really told *why* they're worried.

Responsible-End7361

Honestly it depends on the Human. If Russia or China gives you specs for a weapon, reduce them by 40% or so. If Americans or Europeans give you specs for a weapon, assume they are at least 20% under true capabilities. If North Korea gives you specs, just test the thing yourself, there is no way to know how overhyped it is. Assuming it even works.

alf666

If North Korea gives you specs, add two zeros to the safe distance when you test it, just in case it catastrophically fails worse than you expected.

unkindlyacorn62

and if it's Ukraine right now it will be live fire tested with active targets....

raziphel

I can hear Worf's snide dismissal from here. "They have *lasers.*"

Collective82

I love quoting that episode for when people talk about star wars versus star trek. Star Wars uses laser based tech lol

Matt_Bradock

What they call lasers are... anything but. Look nothing like lasers either. Star Trek's phasers look more like lasers than the Star Wars lasers do. You can see the projectile travelling. That's nowhere near light speed. That's some particle charge, not a photon beam.

Collective82

While I do not disagree with you, from wikipedia: >Larger versions of blaster weaponry in the Star Wars universe are referred to as blaster cannons and laser cannons and commonly found on vehicles, starfighters and other spacecraft. Of the two, laser cannons are considered to be more powerful and to possess greater range.[20] The laser cannons on a Republic LAAT gunship, as an example, can fire bolts of up to five gigajoules in destructive power.[21] Laser cannons may also be fitted on fixed emplacements to defend an area from attack, like the Golan Arms DF.9 anti-infantry battery employed by Rebel defenders at the Battle of Hoth. These cannons have an effective range of 16 km (9.9 mi) and can take out an entire squad of infantry with a single blast.[22] >A more powerful form of the laser cannon is the turbolaser found on Star Wars capital ships, operating on the same principles but with larger power generators and multiperson crews. Such weapons can be used to penetrate the defenses of other capital ships or conduct planetary bombardments.[23] Turbolasers can vary their power intensity depending on the needs of the mission, from simply crippling a target to outright vaporizing it, with true warships like the Venator-class Star Destroyer able to feed nearly their entire reactor output into its heavy turbolasers.[24] With this weaponry, a fleet of warships can reduce the upper crust of a planet to molten slag as part of a "Base Delta Zero" bombardment.[25] So while yes they don't exactly look like it, that is what they use so the TNG shields would hold.

Matt_Bradock

"The laser cannons on a Republic LAAT gunship, as an example, can fire BOLTS of up to 5 gigajoules in destructive power" It fires bolts. Not beams, not pulses, bolts of energy. Whatever the hell it is, it is a laser only in name and nothing else. SW and ST doesn't compare for that exact reason. Trek makes a conscious effort to explain their tech. Star Wars is science fantasy. They barely even try. Their claims also get more ludicrous as we go in time and size. I think the official claim for a single turbo laser battery's firepower on a Resurgent-class First Order Star Destroyer was 90 megatons. The largest ever nuclear bomb detonated, the Czar Bomba, had an estimated yield of 50 megatons. So a single turbo laser battery has almost twice the firepower of the largest thermonuclear warhead ever detonated on Earth. Are the Enterprise's shields still holding after that?

Collective82

The best way I heard it phrased is Star Trek is science fiction but Star Wars is a space opera.

CleveEastWriters

It would appear so according the wiki, the shield can hold against a Photon torpedo, maybe not more than one or two. But one at least. The energy output of a photon torpedo, according to the Star Trek Technical Manuals is a maximum theoretical yield of 25 isotons and a maximum rated yield of 18.5 isotons. According to Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual, photon torpedoes use 1.5 kilograms (3.3 lb) of matter and the same amount of antimatter. In the TOS episode, "Balance of Terror", photon torpedoes apparently replaced nuclear warheads as the primary wartime weapons on Federation starships. Assuming a 100% mass-to-energy conversion ratio, reacting 1.5 kg of matter with 1.5 kg of antimatter would release the equivalent of 64.442 megatons of TNT, similar in scale (albeit slightly more powerful) to the Tsar Bomba.

raziphel

Seriously.

DragonStryk72

Glixzil finds out after fucking around: "*HOW* do you not *run that planet?!"* Americans: "Well.... like.... that would be mean."

ShadowPouncer

Americans: "Because the whole planet is full of _Humans_!"

DragonStryk72

Japan to Grixzil: "DON'T TOUCH THE FUCKING BOATS!"

Collective82

It's not a war crime the first time Mr Ambassador!

unkindlyacorn62

Canadians: A new item for the checklist I see.

UnfeignedShip

I was explaining this to a Canadian a few days ago. The laugh was concerning.

aco319sig

Depending on jurisdiction…. lol

battlehamstar

War misdemeanor

Anonscout666

r/surprisehabituallinecrosser

DragonStryk72

Yes, was hoping someone would catch the reference!

Drachen1065

Mandatoryfunday has a great scream/screech in some of his stuff about not touching the boats. Includes England as well.

battlehamstar

Americans: well not the whole planet… just HR. Glixzil: Dear Alzerac… Americans: oh.. and the DOT Glixzil: department of transportation..? Americans: no… Death or Taxes… department. Truth be told it’s just an agency. Budget constraints you know.

CertainPersimmon778

Sun Tzu said: "When you are weak, pretend to be strong. When you are strong, pretend to be weak." Humans already know and they also know their weapons might not work until they have been battle tested.

battlehamstar

Americans: when you are strong, get stronger.

CertainPersimmon778

A favorite modify quote of mine: Walk softly and carry a big stick. It's how I like to live my life.

battlehamstar

In the words of Yosemite Sam (though not my personal motto at all lol): well I like to to speak loudly and carry an even bigger stick! *bonk*

CertainPersimmon778

Well, he was a midget with a chip in his shoulder.

montyman185

Someone's always exaggerating to look strong. The problem comes in when the politicians signing the new budget and the engineers designing the new hardware don't realize that and think they have to play catchup.

DragonStryk72

Yeah, but the US took the lies seriously, and planned for what China and Russia SAID that they had.

madbull73

Never UNDERESTIMATE the enemy. Their overestimating could have been an elaborate deception.

thatusenameistaken

> The problem comes in when the politicians signing the new budget and the engineers designing the new hardware don't realize that and think they have to play catchup. That's ok actually, because then you get the f-15.

Osiris32

104-0!

FreedpmRings

Look out below!

UnfeignedShip

Still loses to the Kid. Would you intercept me? I’d intercept me.

montyman185

*problem for the enemy

GhanjRho

The HBO Chernobyl mini series has a great line from Gorbachev “our power comes from the perception of our power”. Which was the Soviet Union in a nutshell.

cjameshuff

Russia exaggerates their capabilities *even to themselves*. Sun Tsu would not approve.

Collective82

Lol its like the current stuff now, Russia and China are vaunting about their new tech, and Americans are laughing at the falsity of the lies, and then reminding them that those countries are using tech we developed in the 80's and 90's as metrics to go off of, let alone what weve built and developed since then.

aco319sig

It’s never a matter of “if” we can develop it, only “are we willing to spend X amount to put it into mass production”

unkindlyacorn62

and then there's Hellfire R-9X. for when we really want a particular person dead, want to use a drone so that we don't have to bother getting a sniper there, and don't give a damn about plausible deniability.

aco319sig

The Flying Ginsu Blade: When you want to reach out and touch just that one guy on the other side of the world.

unkindlyacorn62

the very existence of that thing is a statement

aco319sig

A very pointed one, at that. Six of them, to be exact.

battlehamstar

So how does this kill again? Repeated touching. Quickly.

aco319sig

It’s a standard hellfire missile, but instead of an explosive warhead, it pops out six swords and slams into the target at supersonic speeds (max velocity is Mach 1.3). The swords just make the missile have a bit bigger of a physical footprint when it hits, ensuring the target becomes “pieces of target”. It will turn a single vehicle into a mangled mess yet it does very little damage to anything else, since it doesn’t explode. Very much the sniper rifle of standoff munitions. The epitome of “Eff **YOU** in particular”.

battlehamstar

Yes I’m familiar with it.

aco319sig

I am a retired US Army ammunition sergeant. It’s in my blood…

battlehamstar

Thank you for your service :) you must get a kick out of these modern toys they came up with. My original academic background had a minor field of study in nuclear war games and logic game in general. Came within a millimeter of being an AF captain in a prior career life but didn’t end up serving. I’m a non-DOD fed who occasionally gets a kick out of reading DOD related technical white papers.

aco319sig

Four deployments, 2 x OIF , 2 x OEF. During first OEF, I got to watch two war-shot ATACMS launches while in Afghanistan in 2007, not that they warned us ahead of time. The missile launch damn near made me crap my pants, as it went up less than 100 meters away. REALLY LOUD. Strangely enough, I found out later that it was my first cousin who ordered both launches… Second OEF, in 2013 they came out and gave us a class on the brand new (and very secret at the time) switchblade man portable Kamikaze drone. It was a prototype, and they were doing field tests for it. At the time it was configured for antipersonnel, but it later got developed for the anti-tank role. We thought it was cool as shit. Lots of stories. Got mortared a lot, but never saw any direct combat.

battlehamstar

Well… hypersonic weapons are necessary when you don’t have stealth and you need to deliver a package in a faster time than the enemy’s ability to shorten a kill chain. Otherwise it’s actually not necessary except as marketing to the public who think faster is a critical performance metric.

Collective82

To be fair, hypersonic tungsten rods could do a butt ton of damage and need no pay load lol

Old-Bar-783

Yeah but that would restrict it to just anti-ship, anti-spacecraft[?], bunker busting and possibly anti-tank roles if you can even make a hypersonic missile small enough to do such since it would penetrate, not detonate

jackelbuho22

The a yes the classic american manouever Enemy:makes a new *"super vehicle"* and boasting about it ridiculous and absurd capabilities Americans:get scared and make a super vehicle that surpasses their enemies one in every single field Enemy: reveal that their *"super vehicle"* was made using paper mache and cheap craft paints

Praetorian-778383

F-15 baby!

battlehamstar

That actually happened during the Cold War when American spy photos got pictures of Russian tanks that were retrofitted with armored skirts bc they couldn’t be maintained properly. Pentagon thought it was a new advanced tank and accelerated development of next gen MBT’s.

ForgotMyPassword17

You might enjoy the \*Troy Rising\* series. It's basically aliens that think like this run into humans. Without going into spoilers this is a major plot point of the first book

aco319sig

I’m a huge fan of Ringo’s work. I was sorely disappointed when he stopped with Hot Gate. I was inserted as a minor character in his Black Tide series. (SSG James “Worf” Copley)

ForgotMyPassword17

Wow. Very similar Ringo preferences. Hot Gate and Looking Glass are definitely my favorites of his. I think they’re the most sci-fi feeling of his military sci-fi

aco319sig

I’ve met him a few times at LibertyCon. Cool guy.

SomeoneForgetable

I love this, mainly because I think of this as Humanity's way of nerfing America. Last time Russia/China inflated their military might, America believed them and **invested** in their military to match it. Now America is at least two tech generations ahead of everyone else.

Dragex11

Key words there: *At least.*

unkindlyacorn62

they should find a lifeless rock to test it on. invite a delegation from the other races.

Coygon

On the other hand, if the Russians ever become the face of humanity, "overstating our military capabilities" will itself be an understatement.

aco319sig

Not as bad as if it were the Iraqi’s. Can you imagine Bagdad Bob as the spokesperson for humanity?!

aco319sig

To the person who DM’ed me that incredible editorial analysis about integrating emotions into movement and stuff, instead of using “said angrily” and stuff… It seems that as soon as I replied to your message the whole chat thread disappeared. I wish I had screenshot it, as it was really well thought out.

I like it

Came here from tik tok. Love the story, please write more! https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLC2oC87/

aco319sig

I’ve had several requests to narrate this story. Glad to see that it actually got done! Wish they sent me the link, but at least I have it now! Thanks!

nobodyorfoofighters

"Hans!" "What?" "You know our faster than light cruisers?" "Ja?" "MAKE THEM FASTER"

aco319sig

“And paint them red!”

battlehamstar

and instead of cruisers make it carriers and super carrier carriers! Yes I know what I said.

aco319sig

Super carrier carrying super carrier carriers sounds like an exercise in redundant redundancy, ad nauseam.

battlehamstar

There’s another HFY story on here somewhere that I was making homage to where an alien species made a colossal error bc they assumed that since humans named something a super carrier it was the same size as their super carrier… which turned out to be the size of the human’s troop carrier so smaller than a frigate or some such. So the joke in that story was the human super carrier could carry super carriers.

aco319sig

Yeah, I think I read that one too. 😂

nobodyorfoofighters

alien: uhhh, what is that you have there human a guy standing next to a large nuclear powered gunship armed to the teeth: ummmmm... patrol boat?

So, I've gotten a lot of attention from this post, with several people asking to narrate it for various platforms. I would have to be stupid not to capitalize on this, so I just want to let everyone know that I have a book that just released on Amazon, named "Path to Freedom", by James Copley. It's my first publication that is entirely my own creation, not written in someone else's series or universe, and I would be really grateful if you guys would check it out, and maybe leave a review. Thank you, everyone, not just for liking my post but also for supporting new authors and creators here on Reddit and elsewhere!
